Core Project 4 Animation Performance This was something I unfortunately missed during Uni hours, and instead have had to learn from scratch at home. It became something I dreaded, as animation seems to be a key weakpoint for me! Though I put it off out of fear, I took the plunge finally and found myself surprised that I was having so much fun! Though I’ve had some issues with Tween Machine, meaning I simply wasnt able to install it for whatever reason, I continued regardless and had a great time discovering expressions and poses. Lip Syncing is difficult, but certainly enjoyable. Time seemed to disappear while I was working on this, along with my fear. To follow in the next post will be the playblasts of my animation so far.

. This model/ rig Neka is the character created by the team of @character_rigs team, it’s a really beautiful rig, as a leaner on the path of 3D, so far it’s the best rig I have used ^^
Love their piece and #charactertool, really recommend grabbing some of the free rig from their site, and become a unstoppable 3D pro.

In this workshop I learned how to animate a pre-rigged character called Max & make him wave. I used a sample from the popular animated short ‘Hi Stranger’ to which I replicated the pose. I liked how it turned out as it allowed me to position the character in a new pose instead of having the character standing. This also gave it a difference when compared to the other Max waves in the class which we looked at. If I were to do it again I would try to make more facial expressions as they were barely used.

Core Project 4 Animation Performance Thankfully my computer managed to render this without crashing, though due to the struggle its been having and its age, my graphics card has been struggling to render anything other than an Arnold Skydome for my lighting. This project has been a trial working from home, Tween machine not installing, crashing and not being able to render properly. I also had some kind of memory issue regarding the graph editor that made it unusuable to a point! Even though that may all be true, i did actually enjoy doing this, and over the summer plan to work on animation significantly more as I still consider it to be my weakest area. Lip syncing was fun! As was full body posing! I found this far more rewarding than a walk cycle. The process was to create an exception for Mery in maya, animate her to the best of my ability while not using tween machine or the graph editor past a point. Next was to render out using Arnold and the Skydome light into PNG format as a series of images, moving over into after effects and attaching the backing track to the animation, setting the composition and frame rate, and finally moving over into adobe Media Encoder to render into a video. The process is becoming more natural the more I do it, and though I didnt get to where I wanted to this time, I plan to keep trying and fail as quickly and efficiently as possible.

POSE 2 BALANCE - FINAL
This was the final attempt at the pose Balance. I decided to go with this pose as I can do it myself and test to see where the center of gravity is, the weight and feel of the body and the angles well and show that in this character pose well.

BOUNCING BALL ON SPOT FINAL
This was the first and only attempt on the bouncing ball on a spot animation. I have previously done this animation in 2D hand drawn and knew what I had to do. I think I portrayed this quite well although there is always room for improvement.
NOTE: Tumblr would not process video format of this animation so it had to be made as a GIF which also seems to not work properly. The animation has been slowed down a lot in this GIF.

BOUNCING BALL DOWN SLOPE 1 - TENNIS BALL
This is the first bouncing ball down a slope, this ball is a tennis ball and has a lot of bounce therefore goes on for some time. It does not have a lot of squish and pull to it.

BOUNCING BALL DOWN SLOPE 2 - BOWLING BALL
This is the second bouncing ball down a slope. This one is a bowling ball. A bowling ball is much heavier than a tennis ball and has a lot less bounce in it after its initial fall/bounce off the slope. It is a hard ball that does not have any squish or pull to it.

PENDULUM SWING - VERSION 1
This is the first attempt at the Pendulum Swing Animation. In this animation I only edited the first node, bending it slightly on each swing. I think i got the amount of bend correct and the timing of the pendulum swing correct however it looks ridged at the bottom two halves.

PENDULUM SWING - FINAL
This is the final attempt at the Pendulum Swing Animation. In this animation I added on to the previous two animations by editing the last node as well as the previous two. Again I believe I finally got the amount of bend correct and the timing of the pendulum swing correct with a few tweaks here and there of the previous two animations to work together well and move smoothly.

TAIL BOUNCE - VERSION 1
This is the first attempt at the Bouncing Ball with a Tail. In this animation I focused on getting the bounce spacing and squash and pull correct. Looking back at it now, I think It can be tweaked a bit more in the squash and pull department.

PULL - VERSION 2
This is the second attempt at the Pull Animation. In this animation I focused on the beginning part of the animation, the bit before the first attempt. I focused on the characters movement and how they would react when trying to pull and object that doesn't move.
