Music In The Narutoverse

I think in Kirigakure, most music that can be heard originates from either the union of fishermen or monks, as many cultures have been. wiped out due to their ongoing political unrest. As for the fishermen, some popular instruments are steel drums, which can sound like this or like this. Gamelans are often played near the temples up high in the mountains, the wind carries their sound across the village. Radios aren't really used.

Iwagakure's traditional music is very percussion heavy, using various kinds of drums and gongs. They have fallen in love with the guzheng, aka the moon guitar. Another instrument originating from there is the erhu, which Kirigakure citizens also really enjoy listening to and consider a high class/fancy instrument. These are the kind of songs Iwagakure ninja can hear in their radio, Onoki's favorite is this one. High up in the mountains, sounds like these can be heard. These horns are used to communicate between different valleys.

As a stronghold of trade, Kumogakure's music has been shaped by many cultural influences. One of the more traditional instruments in Kumogakure is the cowbell/agogo bell. Kumo citizens enjoy music from all across the shinobi world, including songs in foreign languages. As a rather technologically advanced village, it is not uncommon to hear electric guitars and synthesizers be used in their music. Here are some songs I think could be heard on the Kumo radio. As for Killer Bee, here are some of his faves.

In Uzushiogakure, an instrument that could often be heard in traditional music is the anklung, as well as the t'rung. Music was often performed for the whole village, and everyone was invited.

As for many western instruments, those have originated in the Country Of Knights. This country was only mentioned in the movies, but for the sake of it, I will consider it canon as well. While their traditional music sounded somewhat like this, sounds like these here weren't uncommon as well. It was popularized by immigrants from the country of knights.

As stated before, Madara Uchiha was a skilled pianist, his sharingan allowed him to read sheet music while playing, here are some of the pieces he played. Madara often played this piece for his siblings to make them laugh.

I don't have many... big annoyances that aren't sensory, so lemme think... I guess... when people do that thing where they touch your shoulders or back to get your attention or try to point you in the right direction or something like that... makes my skin crawl, and like, I don't know you! Don't touch me!

I have... quite a few that come to mind. Too many, honestly. A big one for me is when a word is pluralized by misusing an apostrophe. It confuses and angers me because it's such a stupid mistake! It requires a whole extra glyph to go wrong like that! How do you NOT notice!? Another similar grammar peeve I have is when the wrong 'its' is used, but the way that word is made possesive is way easier to do incorrectly; it defies normal contraction/possessive conventions, so it doesn't bug me quite as much, and-

OH! Another one is when people like feeling right more than actually being right! HRGHHH it's idiotic! How pompous can you BE-

Well, let's see... I like the lower bowed strings, particularly viola and cello. I also enjoy the sound of, erm, how do I put this-- folk woodwinds? Pan pipes, duduk, anklung, ocarina, pennywhistle, recorder, things of that nature.

Indonesia, Negara Kuat Soft Diplomacy

Sidang Dewan Keamanan PBB Selasa 7 Mei lalu yang dipimpin oleh Indonesia untuk pertama kalinya diwarnai dengan Batik, yang digunakan para diplomat-diplomat dari negara anggota Dewan Keamanan PBB yang hadir pada saat itu. Dilansir VOA Indonesia, Menteri Luar Negeri Indonesia menyampaikan bahwa, pemilihan Batik sebagai dress code untuk rapat tersebut merupakan bentuk penghormatan para anggota Dewan Keamanan PBB terhadap Indoesia yang menjadi pimpinan forum ini selama bulan Mei 2019, hal tersebut juga memberikan kesan kedekatan antara negara-negara yang ada di Dewan Keamanan PBB dengan Indonesia. Sekertaris Jendral PBB yang hadir dalam sidang tersebut, Antonio Guterres, menggunakan kemeja batik tenun.

Batik sendiri merupakan salah satu buday Indonesia yang masuk dalam daftar Warisan Kemanusiaan untuk Budaya Lisan dan Nonbendawi UNESCO sejak 2009. Dalam sidang Dewan Keamanan PBB lalu itu, ‘Diplomasi Batik’ ini sebetulnya adalah kesempatan yang bisa digunakan Indonesia sebagai bentuk rekognisi dunia internasional terhadap salah satu budayanya kepada negara-negara lain. Dengan batik yang memiliki corak atau warna yang bervariasi, Indonesia dapat menunjukkan identitias dirinya dihadapan dunia internasional yang menunjukkan bahwa Indonesia memiliki budaya yang beragam juga, serta dapat memajukan industri batik di Indonesia. Batik sendiri sudah cukup sering muncul jika ada acara kenegaraan yang diselenggarakan oleh Indonesia dan mengajak para undangan untuk memakai dress code batik.

Dr. Yugiantie Solaiman, M.A, memberikan penjelasan bahwa budaya secara umum, mempengaruhi penampilan, perilaku, dan juga approach dalam berbagai aspek. Keberagaman ini dapat menjadi salah satu faktor Indonesia mendapat suara dukungan dari negara-negara lain dalam pemilihan anggota tidak tetap Dewan Keamanan PBB pada 2018 lalu, sehingga mendapat suara lebih banyak dari Maladewa dan menggantikan Kazhakstan. Menurutnya, Batik yang muncul pada sidang tersebut sebenarnya bukan bentuk diplomasi, namun momen tersebut digunakan Indonesia untuk menunjukkan bahwa saat ini adalah waktu Indonesia memimpin, dan menyampaikan kepada saingan Indonesia bahwa Batik ini adalah budayanya, karena beberapa tahun silam, batik ini sempat diklaim oleh negara tetangga Malaysia sebagai bagian dari budaya mereka.

Hal ini juga bisa menjadi momentum Indonesia untuk meningkatkan Nation Branding di mata internasional, karena saat ini negari ini sedang memiliki catatan yang kurang bagus terkait dengan Papua. Cara yang lain menurutnya yang mungkin bisa digunakan Indonesia untuk melakukan diplomasi budaya, melalui Gastrodiplomacy atau dikenal sebagai Diplomasi Kuliner yang termasuk dalam Soft Diplomacy, yang merupakan cara untuk mencapai kepentingan nasional suatu negara dengan pendekatan sosial dan budaya..

Indonesia merupakan negara yang cukup banyak menggunakan Soft Diplomacy dalam beberapa urusan kenegaraan mulai dari kerjasama antar negara, memperbaiki hubungan dengan negara lain, dsb. Indonesia sempat memiliki hubungan yang kurang baik dengan negara Pacific Islands (Fiji, Vanuatu, dll.), masalah tersebut memang tidak bisa dihindari dalam forum internasional, namun Indonesia bisa sedikit mengobati hubungan dengan negara-negara tersebut, dengan mengajak rombongan negara seperti dari Fiji dan Vanuatu ke Indonesia untuk melihat dan belajar tentang budaya Nusantara, seperti membatik, belajar anklung, dan sebagainya melalui program Beasiswa Seni dan Budaya Indonesia (BSBI), selain itu Indonesia juga ikut menyumbang alat seperti traktor dan padi kepada Fiji.

Selain itu, Asian Games yang diselenggarakan di Indonesia pada tahun 2018 lalu menjadi salah satu bentuk Soft Diplomacy melalui olahraga, cabang-cabang olahraga yang muncul bahkan pernah menjadi alat yang berhasil untuk memperbaiki hubungan antar negara, dilansir dari Alinea.id, Pingpong digunakan Cina 20 tahun lalu sebagai alat diplomasi dengan AS. Rusia yang menjadi tuan rumah Piala Dunia 2018 mengundang pemimpin-pemimpin dunia untuk hadir dalam ajang sepakbola internasional tersebut. Ajang Sepakbola AFF dan AFC juga termasuk soft diplomacy dalam bidang olahraga, yang bisa digunakan untuk menjalin hubungan dengan negara-negara Asia Tenggara dan Asia keseluruhan.

Gaya diplomasi seperti ini sudah dijalankan Indonesia sejak zaman Bung Karno, yang dulunya sering menampilkan tarian Indonesia seperti Tari Lenso ketika ada kunjungan dari Luar Negeri atau bahkan saat dia berkunjung ke luar negeri. Hal itu membuat dunia internasional jadi mengenal gaya diplomasi Indonesia yang cukup halus seperti itu.

Penggunaan Batik dalam forum tersebut bisa dibilang terobosan baru walaupun sebenarnya tidak ada hubungannya dengan agenda dalam pertemua tersebut, jadi meskipun budaya digunakan bisa digunakan sebagai medium untuk berdiplomasi, contoh-contoh diplomasi di atas, hingga munculnya Batik di sidang Dewan Keamanan PBB ini, hal itu belum tentu dapat memberikan dampak-dampak yang konkrit dalam menyelesaikan permasalah isu besar di dunia internasional, hanya lebih kepada memperlihatkan identitas Indonesia dalam Forum PBB tersebut.

Bentuk diplomasi apapun itu pasti memiliki kepentingan dan tujuan, Indonesia menjadikan Soft Diplomacy dalam bentuk budaya sebagai senjata untuk menjalin hubungan internasional, tetapi dalam diplomasi politik, Indonesia masih perlu ditingkat lagi untuk menghasilkan dampak yang konkrit dalam permasalahan isu besar dunia yang berkaitan maupun yang tidak berkaitan dengan Indonesia.

Di luar dari itu, dalam sidang Dewan Keamanan PBB yang menjadi agenda utama bulan Mei ini, Menteri Luar Negeri membahas tentang peningkatan dan penambahan pasukan perdamaian karena Indonesia merupakan salah satu negara yang menjadi penyumbang pasukan terbanyak, termasuk penambahan pasukan perempuan, lalu Indonesia juga membahas tentang isu Palestina yang dapat mempengaruhi kedamaian dunia.

“Hypnotic percussion tracks and organic soundscapes drawing on African, Asian, Indian & South American traditions, recorded deep in the French countryside in 1984.” Founded by long-time friends Gerard Kurdjian and Stéphane Olivier alongside compatriot Christian Berthier in 1983, Nakara Percussions was a trio from the south of France, fascinated with percussion instruments, rhythms and textures from across the world. Steeped in Jazz and ethnographic recordings, the trio designed and built their own instruments and played across the South of France throughout the 80s, recording a single album in the tiny village of Alliens in 1984. Week of 7 May 2018

As this week was the week leading up to Esplanade’s annual Mothers’ Day hosting on Sunday, we attended a briefing on Monday for the operations that would take place that coming Sunday. As I volunteered to participate and host the seniors, I was also included in this briefing.

The team of staff and volunteers who availed themselves to help on this very special day was up to around 40 members. I believe about a thousand seniors from various beneficiaries were invited to be hosted for Esplanade’s Mothers’ Day programmes that coming Sunday.

I was quite impressed by the organisation of the information on the guide sheets distributed to all the staff and volunteers and the delivery of instructions were also clear and simple to follow.

Needless to say, on the actual day, because of all the staff and volunteers involved were familiar with the schedule of the programmes and their roles, there was hardly any hiccups at all. Some considerations when hosting or working with seniors is to take note if they have any mobility issues and require extra care. Otherwise, the seniors were generally glad to attend this special programme and were happy with the performances in the Concert Hall. When it was time for them to depart, I could see that they were in high spirits, more so than when they first arrived. They reminded me of my own grandparent and I wished them well before they departed on their buses back to their centres. 

Other activities that took place this week was research on the social and historical context of Ragtime music. Some interesting background information on this style of music is that it emerged mainly from Missouri and was a style of piano playing that was eventually adapted for brass bands such as those of New Orleans. 

This week we also continued our final sessions of Pesta Raya Anklung workshops for seniors at the various Voluntary Welfare Organisations selected. As usual, the moods and demeanours of the seniors (the same ones with us since the start of this workshop) had improved after the last session. It was as if they were coming alive. 

As this week was the final session for the Anklung workshops, the seniors who were coached in several songs put up a little performance of the music they learnt together with Kompang drums. At one of the centres, they even performed for a neighbouring senior activity centre for seniors with dementia. As part of the staff on-the-ground, we prepared the seniors for their performance and encouraged them warmly to do their best and enjoy their performance. Needless to say, after the previous sessions of preparation, the seniors generally nailed it and ended their sessions in something of a celebratory mood. A number of seniors who really enjoyed these workshops even asked when we will come back again for such workshops.

Matin. Au réveil, de la pointe nord de Sumatra à l’extrême est de l’Irian Jaya, du côté de la Nouvelle Guinée, le plus grand archipel du monde (quoique la Finlande lui dispute ce titre) étire ses 5000 km le long de ses (presque) 17 000 îles. Une sacrée ligne dorsale, un yoga sidéral !

350 groupes ethniques, 210 millions d’habitants, pour la plupart à  Java (115 millions). 489 volcans dont 128 en activité. D’où des sols aussi fertiles que les panthéons des divers cultes. Il suffirait de planter un bâton dans la terre pour que des feuilles y poussent, dit-on. Et qu’un bébé dieu en sorte ? Et puis quoi encore ?

  Tout ! Commençons par les Grandes îles de la Sonde.

Si tu vas à Java, passe à Jakarta !

Ce sera un bain de foule amicale et souriante de 3 jours, pas mal d’embouteillages rituels… On se promène en ville,  boire un pot en face des villas et de ce centre commercial, paquebot ��sur l’eau en face de notre café d’une zone de villas cossue trop colonnées. 

  Une autre fois, on mange dans le bistrot patrimonial Batavia, (sertie d’une collection photographique du tonnerre, jusqu’aux toilettes où elles se font osées) à Kota : le vieux quartier hollandais au charme considérable. Tout y est mis en valeur, sauf l’eau croupissante du canal (où flotte ce jour-là un porcelet qu’un pauvre nettoyeur en barque saisira). Ce canal est bordé de jolis immeubles amstellodamois. Amsterdam en Indonésie, joli trompe-l’oeil du passé…

Au superbe Musée national de Jakarta retraçant l’histoire de l’île, les collections d’art fabuleuses vous plongent dans le film sculptural et doré des 2500 ans passés, trésors et bijoux royaux compris. À voir, la céramique chinoise, abondamment représentée, les sculptures hindo-bouddhiques, parmi lesquelles la statue appelée Bhairava, haute de plus de 4 m (Sumatra-Ouest), la passionnante section ethnographique, les batiks primitifs de Java-Ouest, sans oublier le « trésor » : un ensemble d’objets d’argent et d’or sans doute ensevelis sous la lave du volcan Merapi au Xe siècle…

Il faudra plonger plus profond dans la culture javanaise vers l’est, à Jogjakarta, notamment pour le temple de Borobudur, l’une des 7 merveilles du monde, et le mont Bromo. Puis dire bonjour aux Dayaks et aux orangs outangs de l’ile voisine de Kalimantan : réserve naturelle, lac géant, croisières, spots de plongée.

On va dégazer les embouteillages  à deux heures de petit bateau charmant vers Pulau Seribu (Les Milles Iles), au nord de la baie de Jakarta. En mer de Java, une myriade d’îles (180, 350 avec les îlots) qui attirent de plus en plus de touristes et d’habitants.

La plus développée (et polluée) est  Pulau Bidadari, où se donnent rendez-vous les nantis de la capitale . Les îles les plus proches comme Pulau Putri où l’on fut, Sepa et Pelangi sont propres, valant une excursion à la journée.

Bandung si l’on veut

Pour  une surprise déconcertante, passez à Bandung, à une heure d’avion de Jakarta, pour un spectacle d’Anklung participatif (tous les écoliers rejoignent la scène) au centre culturel soundanais Saung Angklung Udjo. Cela inclut chants, théâtre dansé, marionnettes et percussions en bambou.  Sonorités innombrables.

Il y a aussi dans le centre quelques rues offrant un patrimoine Art Déco hollandais dans son jus. C’est là que se tint la fameuse première Conférence des Non-Alignés en 1953. Bien sûr, on visite le musée dédié, après des échanges joviaux avec une nuée d’enfants. Gentillesse des gens, souriant comme ils respirent.

Mais une ville peu lisible, manquant de repères pour le commun des Occidentaux. Cela changera peut-être bientôt, puisque la ville fait l’objet de la promotion touristique…

Bali et petites îles de la Sonde 

Toutes valent un séjour : Lombok, Flores, Sumba, Sumbawa… Et à Bali, bain de houle, vagues puissantes, lits et offrandes de fleurs ! La majorité des 4,2 millions de Balinais pratique l’hindouisme.  Une période privilégiée sera celle des fêtes de nouvel an, en mai. Voire la période des cérémonies de limage de dents en été, mais il fait humide.

L’idéal est de venir de mai à octobre. Celle que l’on surnomme « l’île aux milles temples » en compterait dix mille, dont trois dans chaque village. On arrive à Denpasar. Cérémonie du coucher de soleil sur les plages de Kuta (la plus festive) ou de Legian (la plus formatée).

La plus culturellement riche des villes est Ubud ou se préparait au Palais Royal  la crémation d’un prince victime d’asthme à 35 ans. Une grande fête : la magie de Bali !

Il y a  tant de périodes et de cérémonies religieuses, naissances ou autres occasionnant des jours fériés -ou pris par les employés- que les managers se résignent à un certain absentéisme. C’est ce que nous confia celui de l’hôtel Royal Beach Seminyak (un M Gallery), à l’agréable séjour en bord de plage (la plus chic). http://www.theroyalbeachseminyakbali.com

On se balade dans les superbes rizières en terrasses classées Unesco.  On passe forcément à à Kerobokan manger dans l’excellent studio culinaire de Degan Septoadji, gagnant Master Chef. ((Tél : +62 361 847 5391). On assiste à un spectacle de legong délicat ou de kecak convoquant rois et reines pour cinquante acteurs sur une scène envoûtante au temple d’Uluwatu, à flanc de falaise, sur la presqu’île de Bukit, au sud de Denpasar. Attention aux petits singes chapardeurs !

Autre incontournable coucher de soleil, celui du temple de Tanah Lot des esprits de la mer, bâti au 16e siècle, servi sur un rocher noir battu par les vagues. Les fidèles en blanc y accèdent à pied à marée, parfois le long d’une corde, formant une chaîne humaine (é)mouvante.

On poursuit vers le nord de l’île, au pied du volcan Agung  qui a endommagé en 1962 le plus grand temple : Besakih, dédié à Brahma et Vhisnu. On y va en scooter loué, puis montée des marches en pierre volcanique jusqu’aux portes initiatiques. C’est autre chose qu’à Cannes. Souvent dans le brouillard, quelque chose d’initiatique, malgré les offres de guides collants qui ont décidé qu’il vous fallait payer pour rentrer. Petit racket, petits métiers…

En contrebas, au village de Pelaga, entre plantations de thé et cannelle, on rencontre des familles attachantes dans les allée, entre les superbement préservées maisons de pierre du XVIII. Là, on c’est qu’on est bien…

Cette petite musique de chambre indonésienne dit ce que l’on fit. Il y a tant que l’on voudra faire… On reviendra !

NB : Bien sûr il y a toujours quelques zones à risque. Comme partout ces temps-ci, hélas…. On s’informera. On m’a rapporté qu’à Bornéo (île indo-malaise) les mythiques coupeurs de têtes reprennent parfois du service… pour régler des comptes entre eux. Tant qu’ils ne nous cuisinent pas, c’est leur problème. Car un séjour y est incontournable.

Un hôtel à Jakarta

Il y a matière à un séjour décemment paradisiaque de 2 nuits à l’hôtel Dharmawangsa. Vous êtes en face de chez le Vice-Premier ministre,sa maison gardée par un tank est un repère facile,  en dehors de la ville tentaculaire. En cet hôtel règne une note jasminée et une atmosphère coloniale boisée.

Tout est d’un raffinement considérable, la salle du restaurant vous replonge dès le petit déjeuner dans de fictives années vingt (car il date de 1992).  Excellente approche des arts culinaires, le Chef est fidélisé, dieu merci. Bien sûr, de beaux jardins, des suites époustouflantes où vinrent tant de présidents (dont peut-être le prochain américain, Hillary Clinton, si elle n’est pas victime d’une trumperie à moumoute blonde mysoginique entretemps : pardon ! Cela semble improbable, mais qui sait ?

Au spa, au premier étage d’un des bâtiments, un insolite petit jacuzzi carré s’ouvre en balcon, éperon à l’air libre donnant sur les tours de la ville, via l’habituelle zone-tampon sociologique de bois résidentiels. Une sorte de petit Bois de Boulogne jakartien…

Le jasmin en pied de lampe m’embaume la tête. En fond, ce dessin encadré renvoie à l’univers colonial hollandais. Quand je sors sur la balcon, la nuit chaude rompt le doux sortilège d’une chambre bonbonnière de lhôtel The Dhamarwangsa…

Profusion indonésienne, myriade d’îles Matin. Au réveil, de la pointe nord de Sumatra à l’extrême est de l’Irian Jaya…
