by Crims
America won the war, but among the fight for freedom was a darker fight taking place in the shadows. Thinking it had all be resolved and buried, Anriette finds she has been pulled back into the fight. Set in the modern world, she finds herself face to face with people of her past under too familiar circumstances.

Martha Jean Claude was very successful from the beginning of her career, due to her extremely beautiful voice and the deep connection she had with the people through her folkloric and Voodoo lyrics. An avid speaker against the abuse of the masses by authorities, led to her arrest in 1952, under thenPresident Paul Eugene Magloire, after the publication of one of her play "Anriette" which officials deemed to be against the government. She got imprisoned while pregnant. Had she not been released when she did, she would have given birth in jail, because just 2 days after her release, her first child was born. Fearing for her life, Martha Jean claude exiled to Cuba, on December 20, 1952, joining her husband, Victor Marabal, a Cuban Journalist whom she had met in Venezuela at one of her concert, prior to her incarceration. Martha was already known in the Spanish speaking community, and her fame just risen even more. She went on to make appearance on many TV and Radio show in Cuba. In 1957, she flew to Mexico to star in a movie alongside the well famous Cuban-Mexican actress, Ninon Sevilla, today considered one of the greatest artist in Cuba. She achieved great success and even became a producer at a Mexican TV station, all within just a year. She would return to Cuba the following year, and became a member of the very respected : "Cuban Union of Writers and Artists" while continuing her very successful singing career; she performed at some of the world most famous stages. Palais des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Madison Square Garden in New York City, Casas de Las Americas in Cuba, Maison de L'UNESCO in Paris, United Nation Headquarter in New York City; Salle Claude Campagne: The Faculty of Music at the Montreal University and countless of other famous venues throughout the world. She toured most of Spanish America and many African countries, including Angola which was going through one of the bloodiest civil war at the time. An activist voice was needed, and Martha Jean Claude was well known for her fiery political songs in not only Haiti, but also Cuba, and even Panama. She lent her motherly voice to the Revolution and was welcomed with great enthusiast by the Angolan population" .READ MORE: http://www.hougansydney.com/martha-jean-claude.php ------------------------------------------------------------- DANIELLE THERMIDOR AND CELIA CRUZ:JUNIOR MENGUAL OWNER AYITI TAN LONTAN - YouTube http://bit.ly/29dMtAy *WAS CELIA CRUZ of HAITIAN DESCENT? http://www.belmizik.com/board/1894 ------------------------------------------------------------------ CELIA CRUZ - (B: October 21, 1925 - D: July 16, 2003) Biography: http://www.biography.com/people/celia-cruz-40369#rising-musical-career Celia Cruz was born in Havana, Cuba on October 21, 1925. She first gained recognition in the 1950s, as a singer with the orchestra Sonora Matancera. Relocating to the United States after the ascent of Fidel Castro, Cruz recorded 23 gold records with Tito Puente, the Fania All-Stars and other collaborators. Cruz died in New Jersey in 2003, at the age of 77. Early Years Celia Cruz grew up in the poor Havana neighborhood of Santos Suárez, where Cuba's diverse musical climate became a growing influence. In the 1940s, Cruz won a "La hora del té" ("Tea Time") singing contest, propelling her into a music career. While Cruz's mother encouraged her to enter other contests around Cuba, her more traditional father had other plans for her, encouraging her to become a teacher—a common occupation for Cuban women at that time.Rising Musical Career Cruz enrolled at the National Teachers’ College, but dropped out soon after, since her live and radio performances around were gaining acclaim. Tempering her own growing ambitions with her father’s wish for her to stay in school, she enrolled at Havana's National Conservatory of Music. However, instead of finding reasons for continuing on the academic track, one of Cruz’s professors convinced her that she should pursue a full-time singing career. Cruz’s first recordings were made in 1948. In 1950, her singing career started its upward journey to stardom when she began singing with celebrated Cuban orchestra Sonora Matancera. Initially, there were doubts that Cruz could successfully replace the previous lead singer and that a woman could sell salsa records at all. However, Cruz helped propel the group—and Latin music in general—to new heights, and the band toured widely through Central and North America throughout the 1950s. Commercial Success At the time of the 1959 Communist takeover of Cuba, Sonora Matancera was touring in Mexico, and members of the band decided to leave Cuba for good, crossing into the United States instead of returning to their homeland. Cruz became a U.S. citizen in 1961, and Fidel Castro, enraged by Cruz’s defection, barred her from returning to Cuba. Cruz remained relatively unknown in the United States beyond the Cuban exile community initially, but when she joined the Tito Puente Orchestra in the mid–1960s, she gained exposure to a wide audience. Puente had a large following across Latin America, and as the new face of the band, Cruz became a dynamic focus for the group, reaching a new fan base. On stage, Cruz enthralled audiences with her flamboyant attire and crowd engagement—traits that bolstered her 40-year singing career. With her seemingly unfaltering vocals, Cruz continued performing live and recording albums throughout the 1970s and 1980s, and beyond. In that time, she made more than 75 records, including 23 that went gold, and won several Grammys and Latin Grammys. She also appeared in several movies, earned a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, and was awarded the American National Medal of the Arts by the National Endowment of the Arts. Death and Legacy Celia Cruz died in New Jersey on July 16, 2003, at the age of 77. On October 13, 2015, Celia, a drama series inspired by the legendary singer's life, debuted on Telemundo. Cruz is remembered as one of the 20th century’s most beloved and popular Latin musicians. Nuestra cantante falleció en el 2002, en La Habana, luego de soportar los rigores de un derrame cerebral.http://sonoramatancera.com/martha-jean-claude.html ---------------------------------------------------------------- Haiti in #Cuba - http://www.afrocubaweb.com/haiticuba.htm Haïti has a strong presence in Cuba, dating back to the late 1790's after the Haïtian revolution, when many French moved to Cuba and took their kidnapped #Africans with them. From this wave we get the Tumba Francesa and the Haïtian roots music in Cuba. Haïtian tradition contains a strong strain of Dahomey and Congo, both of which are present in western Cuba as well. Haïtian Rada is Cuban Arara, the #Dahomey tradition. During the early part of the 1900's, many Haïtiians were brought in to cut sugar cane. In 1921 and again in 1937, when the market for sugar fell, they were simply kicked out and sent home, such was the logic of the neocolonial republic. This period is the subject of a documentary by Cuban film maker Gloria Rolando, Reembarque (Reshipment). More recently, Cuba is perhaps the only country to have welcomed so many Haitians fleeing the persecution of the Haitian elites and their savage regimes. There are reportedly over 300,000 recent arrivals in Cuba. And #Creole, which is still spoken by descendants of the earlier waves, is Cuba's second language, with a Creole radio program in #Havana. There are a number of Haitian #roots groups playing in Cuba, including Ban Rrarra and Desandann. Today, Cuba has several viable Haitian cultural organizations, including #Bannzil Kreyol Kiba described in the article below by Susana Hurlich.READ MORE: Haiti in Cuba - http://www.afrocubaweb.com/haiticuba.htm #HAITI☆#LEGENDS #HAITIinCUBA #HAiti #Cuba #marthaJeanClaude #CeliaCruz #repost #LegendaryFemaleSingers #moisdelafemme

America won the war, but among the fight for freedom was a darker fight taking place in the shadows. Thinking it had all be resolved and buried, Anriette finds she has been pulled back into the fight. Set in the modern world, she finds herself face to face with people of her past under too familiar circumstances.
