So back in late 2012, my wife and I auditioned for a local production of No Sex Please, We're British and were both cast. I played the old bank manager, Mr. Bromhead (I used stage makeup lol), and one of my lines referenced a play, George and Margaret, by Gerald Savory. And I did some Internet research and quickly discovered that this is a real play.
It was also around that time I decided to see how Inter-Library Loans worked, and so the very first thing I decided to see if I could find was a copy of this play. And sure enough, it was out there, they found a copy in a university library within the state.
Tumblr media
What arrived was this old school "library edition" of the Samuel French script, published and printed in 1938 and long out of print.
Anyway, the lesson was that Inter-Library Loans are amazing and so I started using them a lot. I checked out plays consistently for three and a half years. So I read a whole lot of plays because I was able to check them out for free at the nearby public library.
I'm hoping to start doing that again.

The Day After
Reflecting on COMIC-CON 2021, San Diego by Scott Shaw, Class of 1968
Tumblr media
Here's a Baker's Dozen of the reasons why I feel that Comic-Con: Special Edition was the best San Diego Comic-Con in decades:
1. The bathrooms were incredibly cleaner than usual, without the notorious supervillain "The Human Water Sprinkler".
2. A lot more San Diegans -- ones who actually LIKE comics, art, writing, and toys -- finally got to attend the show.
3. Open, unpacked aisles NOT full of zombified mobs pushing forward like oblivious cattle.
4. No DAY OF THE LOCUST behavior on Saturday night outside the Convention Center.
5. Packed panel presentations, including all three I was in.
6. Funko was the ONLY corporation present that I saw and it was in a area of its on in Hall A, not in the middle of the Exhibit Hall.
7. NO HALL H!!!
8. Due to the absence of Hollywood presence, no celebrity-seeking lookie-loos.
9. Enthusiastic buyers due to the former fact.
10: Lots of kids who want to be cartoonists.
11. More passionate cosplayers and far less self-absorbed "Hey, look at ME!!!" non-fan cosplayers.
12. Everyone was smiling -- right through their masks.
13. My ODDBALL SUPERHEROES and FITY YEAES OF FUNNY presentations -- which I spent a LOT of time assembling -- were well-received.
A lot of folks I talked to -- and I had a LOT of people at my table -- mentioned that it had the vibe of the 1990 SDCC.
Of course, much of the security team acted like assholes. And the Mariotte Hotel next door to the Convention Center has never been so incompetent and unfriendly. Thanks to SDCCI's Janet Goggins and Becky Hurt, my fairy godmothers of fandom who sought to correct all of the hotel's inability to get me a room where an amputee could take a shower and other basic needs.
Here I am with my longtime friends Jackie Estrada, Will Lund, David Clark, and Mike Towry.  Barry Alfonso wasn't there but made a very sweet video that opened Anthony Keith's THE FOUNDER'S PANEL on Sunday afternoon.

BTr offers retail treasury bonds to public
#PHinfo: BTr offers retail treasury bonds to public
ILOILO CITY, Feb. 3 (PIA) – The Bureau of the Treasury (BTr) is urging the public to invest in Retail Treasury Bonds Tranche 23 (RTB 23) for as low as P5,000 from January 28 to February 6.
BTr Director for Asset Management Service Eduardo Anthony Mariño said RTBs target retail investors to allow them to invest with small denominations.
“We need to reach out to investors and this is one way to do that,” he said in an interview during the RTB 23 Roadshow held at the Courtyard By Mariott Hotel in Iloilo City last Jan. 31.
The RTB has an annual interest rate of 4.375 percent and a maturity period of three years.
Those who have bank accounts may approach their respective banks to discuss the investment opportunity.
Mariño, however, clarified that if BTr is satisfied with a certain amount of investment, the investors will not be able to place bigger amounts in RTBs for the said offer period.
Those who want to get their money before the maturity date may opt to sell their bonds, but most investors intend to keep them, he said.
“A lot of our investors, I think, are keen on holding it until three years,” he added.
Selling-agent banks include Chinabank, BPI, Metrobank, PNB and RCBC, among others, as well as state-owned Development Bank of the Philippines and Land Bank of the Philippines.
Mariño said that BTr will be responsible to find financial resources to pay back, including interest rates, the investors upon maturity of these bonds since their office is the issuer of RTBs.
He said these bonds will be used for government investments on various projects.
“This instrument, it allows you, the investor, to level-up your money, at the same time fund the public investments – roads, bridges, hospitals, roads, schools,” he said. (LTP/CBA/PIA-6)
