What do you think on Mayrse? Both As a mother, and as a character

hmmmmmmmm complicated question. objectively? i think she was an abusive mother to a T (just see the way she talked to alec and manipulated him into doing what she wanted and then got mad anyway when he didn't leave everything in her control; how she withheld affection from izzy because izzy refused to let her control her and verbally abused her, etc etc) and her character development was fucking shit. i can't even call it character development because she didn't develop, she just woke up with a different characterisation one day

that development was sooo badly done not only because of the glaring lack of any coherent storyline but also because her "redemption" didn't really involve... any redeeming. i mean, sure, she stopped being a bitch to alec. but did she even bother to apologize?? and like you know what is a very obvious problem that was just not addressed? the fact that she was a fFUCKING NAZI. and then she had the gall to be like "stop it, you know i love you" to magnus. i mean does he???? yesterday you were claiming for the genocide of his ppl

and like not even an apology?? not even an "i was wrong in the way i treated my kids and thought about downworlders"? not even any work towards allying herself with them and undoing some of the harm she did?? she has a HUGE fucking debt with the downworlder community bro, she has a fucking RESPONSIBILITY if she wants to be "redeemed" after everything she did, but instead it's just like "i decided that i am no longer racist. love me" and everyone just goes with that. there's also the fact that i know maryse's character helped nicola (the actress who plays her) figure out and accept her bisexuality so i can't help but be thankful for that, too. anything that helps a bi person accept themselves is something i can't help but like, especially a bi latina in her 30-40s. like that's pretty hard so i'm happy for her

Few reasons Alec stans who say Jace is a terrible Parabatai piss me the flip off

Jace : Attempts suicide multiple times throughout 2 seasons; 2x04, 2x10, many times between 3x05 (possibly 3x01)-3x08 (possibly 3x10) while possesed and trapped in his own mind, and twice in 3x11.

Fandom (you know who you are) : *crickets*

Alec : Attempts suicide once in 2x08 partially caused by a spell.

Fandom : OMG! Poor Alec! My precious baby boy!!

I’m so annoyed by people saying ‘oh Jace knew how much it meant to Alec to be the head of the institute so he gave him the title’ no the bitch did not care one bit that Alec was trained all his life to be the head and was in every sense of the word the best choice (especially compared to the blonde fish).

Jace only handed him the position once he noticed that he had managed to piss off half the downworld on his first mission of his first day.

It was the only thing he could do if he wanted to prevent more tension between Shadowhunters and the downworld so he tucked his tail between his fucking legs and did what he had to do from the beginning.

It was in no shape or form him being a candid Parabatai and brother and doing the right thing. It was him realising how incompetent he really is and saving his own ass.

that interpretation is honestly so funny because like if jace wanted to be a good parabatai and value alec why the hell didn't he give him the position sooner? why did he only do it once he had absolutely fucked it all up to hell (in a single day, might i add)?

like u could argue that he did it on purpose to give alec the position but 1- he didn't need to; 2- when has jace EVER planned something in his life; and 3- he would have said so because jace is incapable of not gloating and we all know it

also one beef i have with this interpretation too is that it implies alec only got the position because of nepotism??? which i mean, is pretty much how shadowhunters roll, i know, but still, alec has trained his whole life to be head of the institute, to be a diplomat, he was the acting head before jace, he had been a leader forever!! alec was obviously gOING to be the next head of the institute if imogen hadn't gone full nepotist and given the position to jace instead. implying jace was doing some sort of favor to alec by giving him the position is to imply alec didn't actually deserve it, which is... the direct opposite of what happened lol the one who didn't deserve it was jace

and look i'm not gonna pretend that nepotism wasn't part of the reason jace gave it to alec because 1- again that seems to be just how sh roll; and 2- jace doesn't care enough. but alec was absolutely going to be the head of the institute anyway, so can we please stop acting like what jace was doing was a favor? even if he had done it on purpose for alec and not to save his own ass after he almost completely ruined their relationship with downworlders in a single day, that was literally the least he could do since he had been unfairly given a position that would obviously be alec's otherwise. as we say in brazil, all he did was his duty lol
