makes me so mad how the whole jeffannie arc was dragged out for the entire show when it could have ended MUCH earlier....... like at the end of 2x01 when annie said she thought jeff was gross now..... or when she told britta that she only kissed jeff to feel cool and mature....,. or in virtual systems analysis!! there were so many logical end points for this weird unnecessary plot point but they had to stretch it out for six whole seasons

Did you see that wingamy post where she said it would make more sense for Annie to convince Jeff to join glee club by guilt tripping him or just saying "pleaaase" repeatedly? You should draw that, you're fixing all the bad community scenes👍👍
Tumblr media
In reference to this @wingamy24 post!!
this is how that scene should've gone instead of sexualizing annie. also Annie should get to beat the shit out of Jeff forever (as I have said before and will continue to say)

jeff and britta are good for eachother because theyre both the same level of bad . like they cant have a negative impact on eachother because they both fucking suck enough that they just bounce off eachother . they work because theyre equals . jeff and annie dont work the same way because theres a clear gap in age and maturity, they arent really equals and once they get to a stage where they are (annie maturing as she gets older), annie will finally fully accept that her attraction to jeff had always been just a fantasy . and hopefully settle down and get lesbian married to a woman who she truly loves

So, I started rewatching Community after a year or two and wow, I forgot so many things about this show:
Jeffannie started in season 1 during that debate episode and this makes me feel even more icky. Somehow I thought that this ship started at the end of season 1/beginning of season 2.
Jeffannie is so uncomfortable for me to watch. Not only is the age gap creepy, Annie is presented as this innocent girl while Jeff is Jeff. And yeah, as the series progresses, Annie matures but she's still so young and has her whole life ahead while Jeff is 40 and stuck at Greendale
Britta in season one was the best because she wasn't dumbed down and exaggerated. She had the same flaws as in later seasons (like her lack of real activism, terrible choice of boyfriends, being uncool etc.) but those flaws were believable and toned down to fit the rest of characters. I miss Britta
I forgot that they made Pierce horrible in season 2 onwards so it was a shock. In season one he has more redemptive moments
I miss season one and two of community the most. The show was still somewhat grounded and it made me think of my own college experiences (anthropology as shown in community was basically 80% of my real classes)
Senior Chang > any other Chang BUT that one episode of Guard Change is top ten for me ("Arizona backwards is Arizona!")
Abed was terrible to Troy in some episodes in season 3 (Blanket fort episode, stars doppelgangers episode) and doesn't face consequences/learn a lesson/start to appreciate Troy more. I like Abed but it still pisses me off
I feel that as the show progressed it was less about the main 7 and more about Annie and Jeff which sucks and I hate it
Also, Jeffbritta was the best. Are they toxic? Yes. Do they understand each other on a deep level and always help each other when needed? Also yes. I loved their bickering in the show and I always liked their little moments.
I forgot that Dean's Dalmatian fetish started in season one and progressed throughout the story
Paintball episodes are meh for me. Yes, all of them
"If loving worms is stupid then I don't want to be smart!" "It is and you can't!" I love this little exchange.
Idk, I noticed that sometimes some characters from main 7 appeared for like 1 minute in the whole episode. I know that you can't always have episode with all of them equally on the screen but idk it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Like the election episode which is basically all about Jeff and Annie. Pierce has like 5 lines and all are horrible, Troy and Abed are reduced to being announcers, Britta and Shirley basically don't exist (Britta also goes on stage and is ridiculed)
Idk they could have done more with Shirley
I also like the friendship between Britta and Shirley, the anarchist and atheist being friends with devoted Christian has so much potential
I was never fan of Troy and Britta together
Idk, on one hand Trobed is fine, but on the other hand showing a deep and profound friendship like that is also fine. I'm ok with both
Ass crack bandit song slaps and I love it
Out of all of the main seven, I don't like Annie the most (after season 2 onwards Pierce ofc). And I honestly can't tell if I don't like her that much because of the personality or because of her ship with Jeff

one of the weirdest parts for me of jeffannie is in remedial chaos theory when they’re making out, he tells her to ease up on the bubblegum lipgloss. which is primarily marketed towards children and you never see adults wearing that. to me it means that mentally, annie is still a child and is still feeling connected to her childhood so she still wears makeup for children. it really shows how creepy this ship is

i think Jeffannie should have never happened in the first place but if I HAD to fix it without removing it at all I would have like, Britta Shirley or even Duncan find out and talk to them both about how its not an okay relationship and how Annie REALLY shouldnt be trying to enter a relationship with her situation, even if she was closer to Jeff’s age.
I feel like Britta and Shirley especially would NOT actually stand for something like that, Britta’s an activist and Shirley is a mother are you kidding they’d kill him if it escalated more than flirting. And Duncan would know that it wasn't okay because he is a fucking psychologist (+the scene in s5 ep7 when he realizes britta is too emotionally vulnerable to properly consent). They couldve been like ”Jeff, fucking stop trying to date a girl much younger than you to make youself feel better about being a washed up man in his 30s and deal with your issues like an adult.”
but yeah I wouldve been a lot less upset about Jeffannie if Jeff was reprehended for it and Annie was talked to about it

I just realized that the reason we all hate Jeff and Annie's relationship as romantic isn't because of the massive age gap (although that does add to it), it's because it feels like incest. In the beginning of season 1 they took a more brother-sister route, to change it so SUDDENLY just feels so GROSS. Dan Harmon was right about one thing and it is that their relationship is definitely Freudian (he must have been on mountains of cocaine when he changed them)

so so I finally found words for it but there is no way Annie as a character is meant to be with Jeff,,, and yes this does come from a place of hate for anything even remotely related to JeffAnnie but it's also more than that and totally based on their behavior towards each other throughout the seasons but I just found the perfect moment that incapsulates it
and that is in 4x13 Advanced Intro to Finality wherein Jeff is ready to graduate and there's sorta paintball with the darkest timeline and all that (which just saying is such a cool fucking setup but this is not the post where I talk about it) and both the Annie's (from the normal and darkest timeline) are facing off against each other,,, what the evil Annie tries to persuade the normal Annie with is the fact that they (jeff and her) are sleeping together in this alternate future and normal Annie literally responds with, and I quote, "No-one is supposed to sleep with him. Not even me." let that sink in
Now does this seem like somebody who has a serious romantic crush/is in love with the guy? What it seems like to me is a case of admiration (as a person and a human being) which is further warped into her assuming it's love because that's what we're supposed to do and told to do by society... What is more she obviously views Britta as a woman who (might not be the smartest and I will always hate on how the show ruined her character) but is still recognised and acknowledged as a woman,, something that Annie feels alienated from since most people look at her and tend to infantilize her (which is also a part in her dynamic with Jeff which is just,, n o),,, so a lot of the tines she tends to look at britta's choice of partners to turn to, to fall in love with (obv this is something that I derived from the 6 seasons laid out before me but this is my opinion and yeah)
and yeah the question then becomes why didn't she do the same with Shirley,,, number 1. Shirley is obviously in a different place in her life with her husband and kids,,, number 2. Shirley and her also have quite a big age gap which is again only widened by number 1,,, and number 3, if you notice properly there are episodes wherein you can see her try to emulate Shirley,,, the easiest and most off the top of my head example being the one where they are the campus security together which does end with her professing that she wants to be a grown powerful woman like her.
Now, if we talk about her other main crush, talking about Troy here throughout the first few seasons,,, it's again based a lot on her admiration for him for being popular and again THAT'S WHAT YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DO AND WANT TO BE especially when you're literally at the sidelines of the high school hierarchy so much so that you would busy your ass to score good and do good but still never be known by anyone or acknowledged for anything you do,,, and she technically knew nothing about him which at most i can grant her being infatuated w him and yeah
and most of her attraction to anyone feels very surface level,, in the this-is-what-i've-seen-people-do-so-this-is-what-i-need-to-do-as-well,, instead of being properly attracted in a,,, i want to be romantically with you sense,,, she's essentially creating a fairytale of her life and idealising it and all the models she has for them are heterosexually inclined,, so this is the kind of behavior she ends up adopting and emulating,,
so a large part of Annie's behavior I do chalk up to heterosexual compulsivity (or comphet) because there are moments throughout wherein she shows more admiration and love for women than men in a i-want-to-be-with-you kind of way (and it would be really interesting to look at her struggle as a difficulty to differentiate btw I want to be her,,, and I want to be with her)
a large part of her character is also so interesting to me because of the fact that it feels like she gets away from the writers quite a bit,,, because a lot of the instances you can see how the writers want her to be perceived vs how she ends up being perceived by us (but that's true for most things related to media concerning the expected reception vs the actual reception)
i didn't know this was going to end up being a lesbian or at least queer Annie post either,, but apparently that's my truth and I stand by it
(also I do acknowledge the fact that the part of all this (the part about her being queer) can be chalked up to my own desires and biases and a little bit of projection but regardless,,, in any case, JeffAnnie is still weird and bad and doesn't really fit for their characters regardless (technically for both of theirs but this too long already) and I'm a firm believer of that (anti JeffAnnie till the day I die fr)
