i’m not gonna do any gig reports for now because last week still feels like a fever dream and i can’t really put my thoughts in an order that makes sense. but i just wanted to stop by to say how much i love the vibes and creativity of this fandom and how happy everyone was when it came to meeting and trading/giving out their creations while queueing for the gigs or even when they were over

in Munich, Milan and Padova i got to meet so many people from here. with some of them i chatted more and with some others less. but in any case it absolutely warmed my heart to finally see all those people i see on tumblr but like, in real life! i got to trade my stickers for bracelets/stickers/art/fan stuff, got to see everyone have a good laugh because of my stuff and also got to complement people for their crafts. and i'm telling you i really meant every single word because as i already mentioned, i love the creativity of this fandom 💕

last weekend i began my trip with pretty much nothing on me and now i'm back home with a bag full of bracelets, a folder full of art and a heart so full i wanna cry. i mean look at that:

this last week was a tiring experience with many ups and downs but at the same time it was probably the best week of my life so far

i'm getting especially emotional about it all because this whole frenzy concided with my birthday (on the 29th of March). this may sound cringe or what, but on the actual day of my birthday and when everything was over, i was sitting alone on my hotel bed in Milan and was thinking how this last year of my life started in the worst way possible and how it was only escallating towards the worst every single day. during my 26 i reached a new level of low, a bottom lower than the one i had reached when i was 20-21 (and that was a bad bad time). and yes, there were a few times when i was close to ending it all because it was too much. my 26 was pretty much like hell

but now i'm glad i didn't give up and pushed through all the struggles. because if i hadn't, i wouldn't be able to experience last week. i wouldn't be able to see some of my dearest friends again, to meet all the amazing people from here and from twitter, to see one of my favourite bands perform for three nights in-a-row and to listen to all my fave songs of theirs live and even cry my eyes out to some of them (Barve Oceana in Munich, Padam in Milan and Metulji in Padova really were an Experience). can safely say that my 26 ended with a bang and it was a very good one 😌

i'm feeling sad that this is over but at the same time i'm so warm inside and so happy that it happened. and i would do it all over again, especially if it meant meeting you all again or meeting even more of you from in here. i have never felt so welcome by people who technically only knew me as a tumblr user and i never thought this would happen, considering how awkward i am when it comes to interacting with people online and in real life

anyway i think i've talked too much and i'm slowly loosing my train of thought because the thoughts and emotions are so many right now. i just wanna thank each and every single one of you for making the past week so special and one of the best weeks of my life. i'm beyond gratefull 💖

I'm going to be starting my very first commissions soon! I am very excited but do you have any tips on what I should and shouldn't do?

Oh that’s very exciting! Hmm I have a post somewhere but I’ll just answer anyways 😂 This is gonna be insanely long

- Don’t be disappointed if you don’t get a huge amount of people asking at first. It’s all about drawing people in and growing an audience! If you don’t have an audience yet, it’s always worth it to market and advertise pretty well. Multiple social medias, using common tags, promoting in say, is discord server if you’re in one or something, all that jazz

- Pricing is very difficult and it’ll fluctuate and change over time. You’re not gonna get it down first try, and they’ll change with your workflow and what you realize you can and can’t do/handle! Personally, I took the amount of time I take on each canvas and estimated some average times (I.e. a rendered bust takes me 1.5-2 hours) and multiplied that by ah, $30 I think at first? And then doubled my prices later down the road

- Additionally however, pricing in such a way that you make good money for your time is important but, and I can’t stress this enough, PLEASE consider the people you’re advertising your work to and who follows you, what communities you’re in, etc. For myself, I’ve recently began to aim for higher quality clients who can pay more all at once and so I can get more money with less commissions stacked in my queue. Thus why my lowest price is still quite high. If you want more frequent clients, most often it’s best to keep your prices relatively low but still good value for you. Again, it’s all about finding that balance and figuring out your workflow

- Speaking of workflow, there’s no one right way to do commissions. Your process is your own and from my experience, I’ve gone through a bunch of different processes with different people! Haha, I’ve even signed a contract once to really seal the deal on the terms and conditions. Make it your own! Be as professional as you feel the need to or not. Do whatever makes you comfortable as long as it’s not at the expense of the client, of course

- You may or may not be contacted by spam bots and other accounts about your work. Believe me, it’ll happen once or twice that you might be scammed if you’re not careful (it’s happened to me twice) but if I could say, it’s usually accounts with names that don’t match their icons, using little/terrible punctuation and very automated repsonses, requesting work that’s not what you do usually, requesting work of family members/pets, offering very large sums of money, whatever else. Just be safe!

- Hmmm what else….

- Make sure you have plenty of examples of your work and the style of art/coloring that you’re advertising. If you’re offering something new, just get like 3-4 examples in and have a consistent process before having people pay money for it. I love my current rendering style but I had to wait til I had a few to know how I wanted to go about offering it as a new coloring style and how it’s different from what I would typically do

- Some clients are definitely rude and pester. It’s okay to put your foot down and say you’re not comfortable working with them. Personally, I offer up other artists if that’s the case (within reason, I don’t send rude people generally but sometimes clients get frustrated with you because you’re not the kind of artists they’ll end up wanting to work with) or if I’m just not able to do a commission because it’s, for example, out of my skill level or something. Always good to send people to artists who are open for work

- I’m actually learning this myself but if you’re working with someone who’s well known (I.e. I worked with good ol Xisumavoid), having T&Cs is useful for those larger clients. Xisuma actually gave me his terms and conditions to fill out in the invoices so if the client has that as well, it works that way too! And again, if you have questions or you’re uncomfortable by someone else’s T&Cs, say that! Believe me, they’ll work with you if they truly intend to use your work (bless that man, he was so kind and transparent about the whole process)

- Of courses you are just starting out but you never know!

That’s pretty much he main stuff. Just make sure it’s seen and clear, you’re valued and understand your value, and that everything you’ll be doing is all up to you. If you have artists friends (or myself) that you’d ever need input from, give them (or me) a holler! This is all just me, other artists have more or different ways they’d suggest going about things so if you don’t agreed with anything I’ve said, that’s alright 😌

tbh going through all this stuff i struggle to believe i did so much for so long. there’s a handful of old favs ive kept around over the years but normally i completely forget most of my art exists until i’m directly looking at it, and half the time i still dont remember doing it. the comics though, MY BOYS, i remember working so hard on those comics. each year i’d try to challenge myself a lil more, try different techniques, and be honest about where my characters’ lives were at the time. i just really loved my characters and wanted to share them with the world even if no one else saw or cared

but so many of you did see and did care!!! there will never be enough words to express how grateful i am to everyone who got some joy out of my work, to everyone who has supported me and my silly little characters and silly little stories over the years.. MAKES ME A LIL MISTY weh lol

hey guys. I know I’ve been absent for a couple days, but I’m sure most of you know why. I already posted some of my feelings on Wednesday, and I definitely have many more to share. I’ve already processed many of those feelings with friends via Discord, which has helped a lot. but honestly… I’m not sure I’m ready to engage with anything related to the finale yet. this feels similar to Plan 99 all over again, despite things ending on a happier note.

I’m gonna assess my feelings again after having something to eat and getting going with my day. unfortunately, my queue is about to run out, so if anything, I’ll probably just go through my dash to fill up the queue again. but yeah.

I’m doing ok, and I have a wonderful support system with my friends and family. I’m definitely in a grieving state, for multiple reasons, but I’m not struggling too bad. and just to reassure y’all, I am NOT abandoning the fandom for good. I love these characters too much, and I still have my own story to tell with them. I’m not sure when I’ll be able to rewatch the show again, but I do plan on it sometime in the future (at least season one anyway haha).

the next chapter of MLWTBB will be posted either tonight or tomorrow, and I have some art ideas that I wanna get out as well. also, I’m finally gonna be opening up commissions soon now that the show is over, so y’all can look forward to that too.

I’m not going anywhere. I’m not leaving the fandom. and I’m never letting these characters out of my life for the foreseeable future 💙💙💙

Hello all! The new year is here, and so are everyone’s goals for the next 12 months. I’ve made quite a few personal goals that I won’t get into, but I figured I should at least share the art related ones here, even if I’m a little late to the game.

Finish at least 1 ref sheet. If I do real good I’ll make it 2. Still got a backlog of projects for people close to me, wanna get through those this year. I was ambitious last year with wanting to make progress on Rou’s ref on top of getting through personal projects, so I’m just gonna. Put a pin in that particular ref for now.

Share more WIPs. I’m not horrible at this now but I want to be better about it. Part of generating interest in my art is posting regularly, and WIPs kind of feed the gap in between advertising bases/adopts and finished art. I would really like to finally get off the ground with commissions this year, and I need eyes on my work to do that.

More studies and doodles. I currently do literally none (despite that being a goal of last year as well hhhh). Need to brush up on basics that I never learned and build up to higher quality by putting out quantity. These are also good “filler” post material when I don’t have finished commissions or personal art to share. I want to get better about the shame I feel when sharing something I think doesn’t look perfect or finished.

More traditional art. I want to do some traditional badges, but I also want to dabble in watercolor, gouache, and copics as well. The thought of this is simultaneously thrilling and scary, because I tend to like my traditional art more, but it’s also more costly to do bc supplies and whatnot. Probably won’t get to all of the mediums I want to try this year unless we luck out and move into a significantly larger space, but they’re there if we do and I have time.

Interact more with other artists! This year I want to make more of an effort to share,  like, and comment on other artist’s posts. I haven’t really done much online in recent years besides post art, so I wanna work more towards being an active member of the community and making new friends. And just…being a person! With meaningful relationships and connections! Ahhh!!

Anyways, I hope everyone’s year is going all right so far! I haven’t really been getting much done art wise, just because I’ve been focusing on other stuff. Work has been fine, minus the lead-up into this recent cold spell. It’s been kinda hectic the past few days with everyone preparing for wintry weather. The holiday season has actually been a little stressful for my family, one of our cars has been out of commission for a little while and will be for a bit longer while it gets repaired, so we’re down to 1 car for getting everybody to work and for errands and stuff.

More miscellaneous observations, mostly from Corruption.

Prime etc.

Since there may be Switch remasters of these games on the way, I’d like to clarify that this blog is not an accurate representation of how these games look on console.

For one, I do bump up the resolution, which makes smaller details much clearer. (The base textures are unchanged, though I believe there’s a fanmade HD texture pack for Prime. Which admittedly could kind of use it.)

I also often tweak the lighting in post - usually brightness/contrast, sometimes white balance. (On top of that, I turned down bloom by 10% on Corruption, because it’s a bit much.) This is about as much I would edit a photograph which I took of real life.

Finally... Keep in mind that these games were originally meant to be played on a component video output hooked up to a CRT, which (as you may or may not know from personal experience) is a very fuzzy experience.

That being said, all I’m doing is adding extra polish - Prime games look decent under any condition. (My actual play setup is trash...) So these remasters, provided they exist, have a lot to live up to.

Moving on.

Activating two cutscenes at once means they play simultaneously.

It seems Gliders were originally going to be used as platforms at some point. It is very difficult to get on top of one without noclip, but as you might hope, Samus can totally ride on them. Whee!

There’s no issues with sliding off or anything, either - you’re clearly meant to be able to stand on top. (Wish the same was true for my sad attempts to boost onto Quadraxis’ flying head without stunning it first - water off a duck.)

Apparently there’s even an unused scan image depicting this exact scenario, which more or less confirms it.

This applies to some midsize harmless flying enemies in the rest of the main trilogy as well, specifically the drones in Sanctuary and the cargo carriers in Skytown, both of which speedrunners ride to get out of bounds. Perhaps they’re using the same code...? Or maybe those are programmed like “crates that move” and the fact that they’re also flying platforms is a coincidence, who knows. It’s all platforms, always has been.

Different game entirely, but bear with me. These statues in front of Elun reminded me of this statue in Prime 1, specifically with the robes/armor. Might be a coincidence, though, especially since the main series basically ignores Prime.

Echoes

I love Echoes, but I don’t have much to say about it this time.

Spoopy.

The regular human corpses are about the same size as Samus, but when Ing-possessed they get... bigger. (Morph Ball is about half her height - when unmorphing, she comes up to the armpit.) So that’s weird and kind of gross to think about!

Corruption

The MPT version of Corruption seems to have significantly better load times than the Wii release, though it takes longer to boot up at the start.

The Pirate Phazon storage that Dark Samus reconstitutes herself in during the opening cutscene (left - sorry for terrible angle, it’s hard to fight the cutscene camera) isn’t one of a kind. It’s the same room model as the Phazon storage/processing room that you pick up X-Ray Visor in much later (right).

...gonna chuck that one on the right in the queue, actually...

It’s really impossible to overstate just how tiny humans* are in the Metroid universe, compared to almost every other species. Other humanoid species are generally at least as tall as Ghor. So if you’re looking for an in-universe explanation for all these conveniently morph-ball sized vents... Uh, I guess those are still pretty small for most species.

*or, in this case, Gandrayda badly impersonating a human - though she’s the exception, being about the same size as Samus anyway. I wouldn’t be surprised if they use the same model.

Speaking of Gandrayda. This isn’t a new discovery, but I figure it’s worth mentioning that there’s some otherwise unreleased concept art in her body texture. Seems someone was using it to colorpick...

Feeding my statuary addiction with these busts on Bryyo Fire.

This save room in Skytown has a mysterious solar system model. My pet theory is that it’s home. Like, the lore on the nearby Cyrlic tree is that this Chozo tribe bioengineered it and brings it from place to place (you also see this exact species on Tallon IV). So maybe if that tree is from home, this model is depicting home? I don’t know.

There are a lot of assumptions there and an environment artist probably just stuck it there because it looks cool. Just kidding! This is approximately canon.

While it seems odd that the HUD is a 3D element in the world, it does let it interact with lighting, like this orange glow. It’s subtle, but a nice touch.

...now that I know you can make it invisible I’m turning it off though... Invulnerability cheat doesn’t work in this game, so whatever happens happens I guess!

Quick look at the dying parasite queens in the Skytown Xenoresearch Facility elevator wall. Which is... You know. A completely normal place to store your dying specimens.

If you’ve ever wondered where exactly in Samus’ body her Phazon growth is located, wonder no longer: it is located above whatever Leviathan seed she happens to be in! (In this case, Bryyo. Blue things on the walls.) Hope that helps. 😔

In the drop cutscene, two Spire pods are loaded at the same time, though you’d never see them both with a normal angle.

You might have to take my word for this, but the text in the biohazard scan is once again basically keysmashing. All homebar too, very classical. There’s one word on here, “extra”. And some numbers, 123123, @@@, etc.

Finally. (deep sigh) Shoutouts to the artist at Retro who decided to give the Reptilicus about 6 polygons of lizard bulge. Maybe they can hang with the artist at Mercury Steam who kept giving a bunch of ZDR critters detailed bolas.

STORY TIME!!

So, when I was in middle school I was going through my weird emo phase, not the emo phase I’m going through now, but the weird one where I thought I was super cool, it was wack… but anyway

There was this kid who used to make fun of me a whole bunch for being weird, we’ll call him Max. So, Max was an absolute douche bag, and he wasn’t even cool either, he was just an asshole and he’d constantly throw things at me and fuck with me from the second I walked through the doors until I got on my bus for three whole years because I had the constant misfortune of having classes with him the entirety of middle school.

So, fast forward a little, it’s the last week of school, 8th grade, I’m so happy to be getting out that bitch, but Max decides to do his shit just a little longer. Bro won’t quit, so he’s throwing shit at me, mocking me, being a real piece of shit. It’s Language Arts class, we’re just watching Shrek, but bro says I look like an uglier version of Fiona (fuck you Max she was hot btw) and I’m just like “bruh fuck this kid” so I get up, and I walk over to his desk, and I grab a handful of bros hair and slam his face against the desk.

I got a round of applause, the kids shook, kinda crying, everyone’s cheering for me, my teacher just shrugs it off because he’s seen this shit been going on for a while. Kids nose is kinda bloody, he ends up going to a completely different high school just to be away from me, makes sense, I didn’t want to be near him either.

So now fast forward 10 years, and I’m on Tinder (yes I know it’s gross, ew 2 me) and I come across dude and I swipe right just for the hell of it, little did I know he swiped right on me too 🤢

Then he messages me and he’s like “I feel like I know you from somewhere??” And like, obviously I’m not gonna lie and say he didn’t know me because I fucking hate this guy, so I’m like “yeah, we went to school together, we went to [redacted]”

And he’s like “ooooh, did we have classes together?” Like bitch, you might have forgotten but I fucking didn’t. So I’m like “yup. We had a lot of classes together.” And he was like “oh cool, what classes? Did we hang out?” LIKE BITCH???!!!! And I was like “all of our classes?? And no…” and he’s like “oh no way? I remember some classes. Were you in my eighth grade LA class?” And I was like “yup.” And he was like “oh man, so do you remember that crazy bitch that slammed my face against my desk? She was crazy.”

Queue me laughing my ass off behind the phone screen and I’m fucking dying and I can barely see the letters on my screen while I’m typing and I’m like “yeah, I remember.” And he’s like “can you believe everyone just laughed?! She could have killed me.” Like full on over exaggerating because I didn’t even slam his face down as hard as I wanted to. But then I’m like “bro… bro that was me… you made my middle school years hell. You deserved it.”

And then he told me to go fuck myself and blocked me. Which was great. Bro tried to get pity from the bitch he tortured, I fucking CACKLED!

Still can’t believe he didn’t remember me, I guess my makeup skills got better but still. I’ve never laughed so hard in my life.

I know this happens a lot but I still get disappointed.

Step 1: excited to read a new series

I saved this fic and wanted to read it for a long time, but now I can’t. I just can’t ignore that anymore like I used to. One of the first images is of a man holding a very tiny white woman but it’s supposed to be a “reader” inclusive fic.

I’m just so done with all the things. In the last 4 weeks I’ve also blocked more minors and blank accounts than I have in years. I’m exhausted. More followed last night and I’ve honestly been too drained to comb through and delete today.

I have a queue set up through July and August of recent work, trying to get reblogs out. Build up visibility. Otherwise, I’ll be sticking to my wip schedule and working on the drabble series. Yes, the Drabbles will post here so the ppl who requested can see them.

Behind the scenes (since March) I’ve been very slowly fixing up my A03, deleting some things on tumblr and only having them there. If you notice a fic/drabble/one shot is gone, that’s why. Some stuff will have A03 links listed, others completely gone from free-to-read land and placed back into my private files. Just gonna keep on doing that bc I don’t know man - this place isn’t the same. I used to love it here, so I was holding out hope and sticking around.

The community vibe is gone, I barely recognize anyone anymore except like 3-5% of the people who show up in my notifs and on my dash. People don’t reblog anymore. The influx of blank blogs is exhausting…it’s a lot. The minors seems to be hell bent on following and engaging anyway. It’s a lot.

Makoto Naegi is such a great character because he’s literally just some guy. His just a guy syndrome is so incrediblly large but he makes it work!! That’s the whole point. I feel like a lot of people get the very basic idea of Makoto Naegi as a character (that he is nice :)) and that he has hope !!), but don’t bother to dig deeper. Which is fair I don’t think the writers bothered to either. Makoto is stubborn, and I personally feel like that’s a flaw of his. Despite the fact that the remnants of despair are obviously dangerous people and terrorists, despite the fact that his boss and coworkers tell him not to, he goes behind their backs and does it anyway, because he hopes and believes that they still have good in them!! And this is his greatest strength and greatest weakness!! AND he sweet talks Kyoko and Byakuya into helping him, hes emotionally skilled enough to convince them against rational thinking. I’m not saying he’s manipulative or anything, just that I could see him managing to convince them because that’s just a part of his character.

The games and anime don’t give me much, but I definitely see Makoto as somebody who will see things through if he believes in them enough, no matter what anybody else says. He has set ideals and gdi if he thinks the ROD can be saved then god damnit it guys we’re gonna try. And even if it wasn’t directly his fault people still got hurt because of his actions!! But it’s fine because the entire time Makoto was optimistic and had full belief that things would work out. And they did. Technically, he was right. And that can be such an interesting aspect of his character!!

So in this essay I’m going to explain how Makoto Naegi and Sonic the Hedgehog are intrinsically alike characters-
