had the idea for this drawing walking home from class, went “ughhhhhh i guess i have to make this now,” procrastinated for about a week, started it, gave up, picked it back up again, gave up, went to class, got home, and finished it reluctantly. so now it exists i guess!

- when legato's regressed, he needs a lot of reassurance of his safety, and the only person who can really give that to him is knives

- being with knives just makes him feel so safe and secure

- small legato also needs to have things to keep him busy. he's big on activities that don't require too much energy, like puzzles or easy crafts

- he also always listens well, legato isn't a troublemaker at all. if anything, he's too obedient. knives worries about him sometimes, because he knows legato's behavior comes from his past and fear of being punished. he always makes sure that legato understands that he's safe and that he won't hurt him.

- legato will often try to continue working and ignore his regressed headspace, but it's really easy to tell when he's small, especially for the people closer to him. if elendira notices him slipping, she'll either suggest he take a break in the garden or take over his responsibilities.

- even though she pretends to be annoyed whenever she has to look out for legato, elendira secretly enjoys it- she appreciates the amount of trust he places in her to take care of him

- knives finds little legato amusing. he seems to find wonder and excitement in everything, regardless of how small or mundane. legato could sit at the piano for hours just pressing keys and being delighted at the sounds.

- even though he'd never admit it, regressed legato reminds knives of vash when they were kids. they both seem so in awe of the world, and it really activated knives' protectiveness

- knives also needs to feel needed, and that he's succeeding in protecting someone, which he gets from caring for legato. he has really complicated feelings about humans, but knives has always seen legato as his human. as such, knowing how much trust and faith legato places with him, especially while being so vulnerable to regress around him, makes knives feel stronger and more sure.

- on the other hand, knives' regression is harder to notice. he became very used to hiding any "weakness" from a very young age, internalizing a lot after his discovery of tessla.

- as such, only those closest to him are aware of his regression; namely legato and elendira. they're his usual caregivers and watch out for him when they know he's small.

- legato is a very gentle and attentive caregiver. he's always making sure knives is comfortable and not pushing himself too hard and is there to keep him entertained when he does have a break

- when knives is able to relax and sink into his headspace, he likes spending time in the garden. knives loves being around all of the flora and simply existing in his environment. it's something he doesn't let himself do often, since his time and thoughts are usually occupied with his plans to free his sisters.

- little knives is also much more affectionate, but only legato and elendira really get to see that side of him. one time, knives called elendira "big sister", which he will never admit to and elendira hasn't brought up (but she was incredibly touched). knives has started to see elendira similarly to how he feels about his plant sisters :)

- knives also needs a lot more rest when regressed. he isn't usually very cautious of his health, pushing himself as far as he can in order to pursue his goals. as such, it's not uncommon to find him napping with legato (who could also use the rest and closeness)

- legato is absolutely elated to be knives' primary caregiver. he adores knives, and knowing that he trusts him enough to be vulnerable about him makes him very happy. it also makes him feel much more in control to be able to protect someone. legato has a lot of complicated feelings about his role in the world and capabilities due to his past, so being trusted completely by knives, someone who he considers incredibly strong, helps legato a lot.
