dubaku never wanted to be a parent, he enjoyed the illusion of parenthood, but after he lost gabi (obasi's mother), he realized how little he truly cared for family. much like how he raised obasi, he was raised to see family as something dangerous and draining, a chore more than love. so when obasi was born all he could think of was the blood he would shed for her that he did not want to shed. dubaku never wanted to be a father.

he didn’t want the life of a crime lord and he most certainly did not want a child to go along with it. he knew that in raising obasi, he would have no choice but to work until he died, so he chose to be miserable. he chose to hurt his daughter. he chose to make obasi feel all that pain and anguish in every neglectful action towards her.

obasi loathed dubaku as much and he loathed her, and in the end, she did not loathe him as much as she thought. in the end, dubaku is still her father and a part of her wants to love him, and that’s why she wears his coat when she grows older. his coat is the last semblance of some kind of love that vanished the moment she was thrust into his shadow.

deep down i think there’s still a child in obasi that wanted to see dubaku as her father and not a role to follow, she wanted to love him as family and not loathe him for the successful crime leader that he was. she wanted to carve her own path but had no choice but to follow his. and now, by the time the events of the main story happen, she’s about the same age her father was when he was murdered, and she’s filled the shoes she was destined to fill. but at what cost?

obasi’s coat is ultimately symbolic of the hatred, neglect, and pure malice that shaped her childhood. it represents how she is so deeply tethered to an instinctive love of her family but simultaneously, a boundless hate.

she wears her father’s coat like she wears her past upon her shoulders.

One potential resolution for the "dragons couldn't evolve from vertebrates because they have six limbs" thing

I'm thinking bird-descended dragons (wyverns?) who underwent a similar process to ungulates turning cancer into antlers, but for "front legs." Develop these rigid growths that enable horizontal stability as their bodies get longer and lower. Gradually they gain some muscular control of the legs, though they'll never be as multi-jointed as real bone limbs. Like many theropods, dragons don't need those front limbs for a whole lot, so it works for them.

Maybe these growths spread all over the body. That could account for all the extra horns and frills and even re-evolved teeth (I'm thinking serrated keratin pseudoteeth as those jagged bits you see on the "lips" of dragons). A reinvention of pangolin armor from a whole new angle.

thinking about in kingdom of the planet of the apes and noa's title as 'master of birds.' most people i've seen interpret that as if he was clan leader, but when i rewatch it and actually try to break down the eagle clan's cultural practices, i think it's more of an advisory posisition?

there's a few instances in which i'm sure it's more of a ceremonial/advisor/spiritual leader:

koro has to ask permission of the elders to send oda out to deal with the echo (mae). it's a very faint line, but he approaches them saying something along the lines of apologizing for interrupting/asking for counsel

when eagle clan is attacked, sylva grabs an elder and takes off his necklace proclaiming it in the name of caesar. meanwhile koro is up in the tower, away from the rest of the clan. he is freeing the eagles from the fire, which falls under his job as master of birds. if he was head of the clan, he would've been with his people

when noa meets rakka and learns about caesar, he doesn't mention that laws are carried out by master of birds but by their council of elders

at proximus' fortress, right before noa sees his mother, he looks off to the side and sees who I am pretty sure is the elder that sylva stripped of his title? he works alongside them to try and break into the vault (a similar parallel to caesar in war as after he is captured by the colonel, he's forced to work side by side with his colony. he no longer recognized as their leader at that point)

unfortunately, I think no matter what though koro would've died no matter what because he was their master of birds, that would've separated them from the rest of the clans that proximus had gathered/stolen. he would've given them hope

needless to say, this is all speculation from the few minutes we see of eagle clan. i hope we get to see more of it in the new movies.

Caesar is the only character in the POTA (the film and TV universes at least) where we see so much of one character's life. We meet him as a literal newborn and follow him into childhood and adolescence, then as an established adult leader with a wife and an adolescent son of his own, and almost into middle age and to his premature death. We're deeply involved in his life as an audience, Andy Serkis doesn't just play a chimp, he plays out that chimp's entire life, and the unique changes and growth that character experiences. And it's impressive and incredibly moving.

about time i drew noctis being an unhinged mess. she's won the fight but she's still itching for more. this fight isn’t over yet.

noctis’ cybernetic arm is an amalgam of different parts, which can sometimes amount to a level of stress where the mechanisms begin to exhaust steam. fortunately, this isn’t any harm to noctis herself— as a matter of fact, that overdrive gives her the boost of adrenaline she needs to keep fighting.

If they can’t afford CGI tears how are they gonna afford CGI WOLVES 😭 I hope they just hire some big wolf-dogs or something I don’t want bad CGI wolves

I actually had a delightful anon a little while ago who spent some time on the True Blood set and suggested IWTV might use wolf-dogs, which gives me a lot of hope, anon, haha.

I will say though too that I think there are probably better prototypes for wolves that exist for VFX artists to work with than there are for blood tears, so while I do think we're at risk when it comes to bad CGI wolves, I think the blood tear budget isn't necessarily an indication of potential wolf-quality, haha.
