he’s relatively young compared to his siblings, he looks around 16-17, he can be quite eccentric at times and he always seems to have a magpie around him, he doesn’t mind though. He never lets his siblings forget that his province is rat free, he will not shut up about it like at all.

he’s quite close with his older brother William (B.C) although he is a huge pain in Will’s ass from time to time, typical sibling conflicts and such. Michael’s also a huge fan of the Rural Alberta Advantage (seriously go check them out, their music is fantastic, especially if you’re albertan)

because he’s still kinda young, he hasn’t fully come to terms with his immortality so he does struggle with that every now and then but at the same time, he loves watching his cities grow and change through the years. I can’t wait to share more about him and his siblings and I’ll draw his twin sister eventually but for now, go oilers!!!!

Battle of Alberta Timeline pt. 1: 17th-19th Centuries

Phew.

This was an ambitious little project for such a short time period.

I don't have much to say about it other than that, it is just supposed to be a crash course in the broad strokes of what Alberta considers to be its history. It glosses over a lot and is mostly about the foundations and incorporations of the characters (i.e. the municipalities that I have personified thus far) and a few contextual clues to the worlds they grew up in. It's basically a big cheat sheet for me since I'm both a stickler for consistency and also very inconsistent... Of course, each character could easily have their own personalized timeline on top of this, so I tried to leave room for that possibility.

(missing is St. Albert, who would be featured at 1861 if I ever intended to draw him)

And, of course, it's supposed to provoke your curiosity a little since it is of course an ask blog, I can't just explain everything down here much as I would like to :)

Ontario: I swear to god, Quebec! You're always being a pain in the ass, aren't you!

Nova Scotia: that's fine if he wants to miss out on a FREE DAY OFF.

Quebec: .... Alright but I'm calling it La fête des patriotes.

Fifty years ago, they could barely stand to be in the same room together. 

Awkwardly sitting across from each other at a cafe is an improvement, no matter how it feels. 

Noah catches Victoria glancing at him and wonders if she’s looking for similarities between them, the same thing he’s been doing. 

They still look alike, with their dark hair and eyes. They have the same nose. 

“I wanted to ask if you wanted to celebrate Thanksgiving with me. We decided that since they’re on different days, we’d split the difference between the Canadian and American one and just have a small gathering.”

Victoria blinks. “I thought Anna was all about it just being family?”

Noah has to look away. “You are my family.”

Victoria smiles, and Noah smiles back. 

They share smiles too.

Ok so randomly found myself watching this video from 13 years ago and I couldn’t help but draw these guys.

Is Ralph like everyone’s dad? Or big brother? How does that work ?

I was really overthinking how much detail to answer this question with and then I realized the most important piece of information is that Ralph is younger than several of the major munis - he wasn’t even a twinkle for almost 100 years of Ed’s life. Mac wasn’t even part of the territory that the original district of Alberta covered, and it wasn’t decided whether the province would extend east to west or north to south until 1905. (Jas actually slept through the whole district to province thing between the 1880s and the 1900s) The formation of the district of Alberta and the race for capital of the fledgling province is something that would take a few more asks to answer...... :3c soo...

I think there’s this common misconception that because provinces outrank municipalities in political power that they are older than them, but history doesn’t usually work out that way. I think (like Ed, actually) Ralph is annoyed that everyone bosses him around (since that’s how democracy typically works) and he can be quite contrary and stubborn about it when he wants to be... but he’s just as quick to say “Well, it’s what everyone wants, so there!”
