Anyways, lol this is general NY state history. But New York is the 11th (out of 13 at the time) state to ratify the US constitution. It was ratified by the 30 to 27 vote. And dbshjs now all 3 of these kiddos share July 26th…it’s a crowded day I guess.

Countess Luise Henriette of Nassau was the daughter of Frederick Henry, Prince of Orange and Amalia of Solms-Braunfels. At 19, she had to give up her love for Henri Charles de La Tremoille, Prince of Talmant, to marry Frederick William who would come to be known as the Great Elector. The marriage wound up being a love match and the pair were incredibly happy together. Luise was very politically involved and had more influence in the affairs of her state than most women were allowed at the time. Despite her delicate health, she followed him wherever he travelled including to campaigns. Her husband was known to have said that “nothing went wrong if he followed her advice,”

Gilbert, Konrad, and especially Reiner are very, very fond of her. Gil kind of attached to her as a mother-figure, Konrad views her as a close friend. Reiner sees her in the same light and she’s also one of the few people he would consider to be a true, trusted confidant. They were all equally devastated when she died due to Tuberculosis at the age of 40.

I couldn’t find an official name for Ned so I made up my own: meet Markus van der Meer. He’s one of the maybe three people Reiner would actually call a friend rather than a loose acquaintance.

Gil likely met Markus for the first time during the coronation in 1701. Prior to that he’s only ever heard of him through his brothers.

Reiner’s favorite color is: you guessed it, orange. He’s also fond of Tulips and keeps a bed of them in his garden.

Aph Canada?

How I feel about this character: Look, he is a marshmallow of a man, and people always assume he's quiet. Little do they know that he also has a very passionate personality, and I see him as the older of the two NA brothers.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I am a monogamist, and so my only ship for Mattie is with the representative of the Kingdom of the Netherlands! The reasons for this are very much historical. I can point you towards the history of Nova Scotia and Utrecht for the earliest example, but of course the one connection that most everyone knows is about Princess Margriet being born in one of Ottawa's hospitals and the maternity ward was declared extraterritorial during her birth. That, and the hunger winter of 1945 where they also delivered food to the starving people of Ned's nation. As normal people, they're the perfect contrast to each other, and mygod Matthew needs more subdued European fire in his life, because Francis as a dad is extreme on SO MANY LEVELS.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Mattie gets along very well with Francis, his 'father figure', despite Francis being the most extra of parental figures anyone can ask for. They're the perfect father and son, so Mattie got his sassiness from Francis (also maybe possibly his libido too but ofc he's not going to reveal that!)

My unpopular opinion about this character: While most see him as meek and as a pushover, I see that as just a front, because he's way more open with people he's close to (FACE family + extension, Benelux siblings) and lets his guarded walls down. He has a temper that actually rivals Alfred's, but that rarely emerges because he has an infinite amount of patience. But those who smile the most also have the most towering of tempers when pissed off just enough.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: more. Interaction. With his family, not just his brother. Also the Netherlands / Canada connections! There's a lot in history but I am just BUMMED these were overlooked.
