"Ontario will allow students, starting in Grade 11, to transition to full-time apprenticeship programs while still earning a high school diploma, the government said Wednesday.
The move is part of a wider push to address immense labour shortages as the province looks to build some 1.5 million new homes by 2031, Labour Minister Monte McNaughton said at a news conference in Pickering.
Teens who enter the full-time apprenticeship programs, which take between two and five years, will be able to apply for their high school diplomas as mature students, the province says."

could frostfur mentor ashpaw maybe, if you are wanting to keep the brindleface kits adhering to the code ammendment? she wouldn't have kits in the nursery anymore, and ashpaw isn't her kit, and it would keep the reasoning of fireheart not wanting runningwind to mentor a kit while still choosing a warrior of 2+ years
That would work very well-- plus, I can even make Fireheart's reasoning like,
"Darkstripe, Longtail, and Dustpelt need to be rewarded for their loyalty. Dustpelt will want an apprentice... but he's so young," Fireheart remembered when he and Graystripe were given Frostfur's oldest kits to train, as rewards for driving out Brokenstar and retrieving WindClan. There was no doubt Dustpelt would be jealous of his early achievements, but Fireheart wouldn't soon forget how unprepared they both were to guide apprentices into warriorships when they'd barely been adults themselves.
No. Dustpelt would need to be rewarded in a different way. It wouldn't be fair to Ashpaw, or the well-being of the Clan, for Fireheart to use him like a bargaining chip.
"Frostfur is hardworking and experienced," He concluded, "She will mentor Ashpaw." She would appreciate the incentive to return to warrior duties, now that Thornpaw and Brightpaw have joined their siblings. Besides, he thought grimly, ThunderClan would need all paws on patrols now that they had a powerful enemy lurking in the forest.
(side-note; one of my favorite things is warriors-ifying idioms lmao if you put that in your fanfictions, know I'm giddy with glee)
I need to work out a sort of... secondary-apprentice system that still looks canon-compliant, btw. I want Dustpelt to be rewarded by actually learning how to do construction from the previous generation's building expert, using such a system.
Longtail meanwhile, his reward is that Fireheart starts putting him on important patrols and investing real trust in him. They also start becoming 'friends' at this point; I plan to start showing that he is a reliable cat capable of leadership, since he becomes deputy post-BloodClan battle.

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to someone planning to self-learn programming? Honestly the industry is a maze to me, there's so many options and I don't know where to begin (especially since a lot of the sources you can find about where to start with self-teaching and programming in general is based on USA statistics and whatnot, which could misinform my expectations as I am not located in the US).
Tumblr media
Honestly since I don’t know where you live, I can’t specific recommend any apprenticeships.
I live in the UK and in recent years the UK Government has basically pushed for more people to do apprenticeships in various areas and fields so you can literally find an apprenticeship in anything these days.
There’s literally a page in the UK Gov website to find apprenticeships near you - LINK
You can check out the place I currently do my apprenticeship at QA Apprenticeships - LINK
Those are the two resources I used to find my apprenticeship, I don’t know lots on all the apprenticeships available unfortunately 🥲
But I hope this helps you, I understand everything is very American based so kind of blinded to see the opportunities available to you in your own city or country! I would recommend an apprenticeship since they help you with the skills and experience as well as getting paid 😩🙌🏾
Good luck to finding an apprenticeship!

Interesting talk from Douglas Brooks on his apprenticeships in Japan. Found this via his article in the latest Mortise & Tenon.
Silent apprenticeships sound wild.
The apprenticeship model of learning is age-old, and is a fixture in most ancient trades around the world. Often, the moral and philosophical values of a society imprinted themselves into the texture of the apprenticeship tradition, offering a way of learning that went far beyond simply mastering technique: It was designed to teach a student how to become a better person.
"The expectation – never once stated – was that I would be paying attention to what my teacher was doing, learning through observation alone how to do it correctly,” Brooks writes. “Rarely, when a teacher would demonstrate a technique to me, it was done with the utmost speed and obvious impatience on their part. When I was finally called upon to work, I was expected to do the work perfectly; if I did not, I was sent back to sweeping." While this may seem inefficient and even harsh to our modern ears, it was meant to instill values of careful observation, attention to detail, and above all, humility.

You know What gives me anxiety?
Being sick (especially during schooltime)
Because I have to decide:
- will I still feel like shit tomorrow so it's relatable to see a doctor?
- I have to make a bunch of calls and write emails so people that need to know that I won't coming in today. Do in want that?
- Where do I get the schoolstuff from?
- Do I want to repeat the test that the others take tomorrow?
- What if I feel fine tomorrow? I need to reach the dorm a day prior cause I wont reach school on time if I decide not to go now and try to take a train in the morning. And my workplace needs the info from the doctor that I really was sick. So I am forced to see a doctor just to get that so I won't have a missed day without excuse.
Is this all stupid to think about? Yes
Will I stop worrying and fucking focus on getting back to health before the bookfair in Leipzig? Well... no because going to a doctor feels like a crime.
Why am I like this? Why do I feel like i don't need to see a doctor? I can go around and doing things just fine! (Backgroundvoice: yea but you will feel like a truck ran you over afterwards and drag this shit further. Remember Why you have a chronic cough?)

It's an F grade for Keegan over nation's apprenticeship failings
ANDREW FISHER, pictured right, explains how apprenticeships can be a valuable means of recruitment for some employers while offering some pay to trainees, but that the Education Minister’s dabbling with ‘apprentice teachers’ is barely worthy of an F grade This week is National Apprenticeships Week: a chance to celebrate the opportunity that workers have to earn while they learn. I say “earn”, but…
