listen to me carefully. a key part of toph’s arc is going from dismissing sokka outright bc he’s not a bender to thinking that he is the coolest person ever. you do not understand toph if you don’t get this.

Okay something I just noticed on my billionth rewatch but like….

Jess makes a point to insist “this isn’t about him!…this is about you, Rory!” talking about what’s up with her & where she’s at and it’s the final catalyst for really thinking about it. Amd when she voices it to Logan like, I think I may not be happy with my choice, and he makes it about him. The “don’t blame me, you chose this…don’t you dare blame me.” And the thing is….she doesn’t. Because it’s not about him it’s about her! And Jess can see that but Logan can’t.

#vics spn rewatch #spn 1x10 #the apology is made worse by j*red's inability to actually sound sincere #he's doing his fake sympathy voice and it is so. grating #adds a fascinating unintentional layer to sam as we've talked abt before #and it's like not necessarily a Bad thing to perform rather than feel sympathy #but like. this is very much a non-apology and dean knows it and we all know it #sam DID mean those things on some level. maybe not as harshly as he said them bc his anger WAS being heightened by the ghost #but those feelings were real #and sam is allowed to feel them. but they are in many ways. a projection and also unfounded #sam literally could leave at any time and dean would let him go (as we'll see in thee very next episode!!)#just bc he feels those feelings doesn't mean they're inherently true #dean isn't keeping him trapped. dean isn't just blindly following orders. dean Does have a mind of his own #and in fact dean isn't being all that great of a dutiful son bc he actively is not all that interested in finding john!! not the way sam is #and you'd think for dean being the one to initially show up and ask sam's help that he'd be more invested in finding john #and making sure he's actually alive instead of following random coordinates to a case. and taking on every other case they find too #anyways. sam's feelings of anger are real bc he feels them and it's okay to feel things #but he's massively misinterpreting and projecting things onto dean #and then he feels guilty (like post-possession) and tries to swipe it all under the rug and claim he didn't mean any of it #but he Does. and dean knows it. everyone knows it.#his perceptions do not align w/ what's really happening. bc he doesn't have the full context.#bc he doesn't know just how complicated dean's relationship to john really is. bc he was sheltered from a lot of that.#he sees dean desperate for approval and a good little soldier #when in reality dean was playing peacekeeper and mediator and punching bag most of their childhood.#and rn dean doesn't really care that much abt finding john. he just wants to hang out with his brother #not samcr*t btw. we love all this abt him it's spicy it's crunchy it's tasty

#they all have a thing about boredom as an existential state even more than grief #dkw to call it but something about mundanity being profound and the profound being mundane #and in a way they are all horror stories too but it's the horror of individual existence within a context #and strange beauty #five minute question-answer these were the ones that floated up first so im gonna assume they're the right answers #i think for me there's a point where media has to become separate from its sense of its own cleverness #PB is interesting because there's a huge layer of revelling in its cleverness but then there's a huge layer of stuff they must have #-realised almost *no one* would parse; they never ever talk about it in interviews either #hana-bi is also a cop/gangster-*type* movie which uses genre motifs to look at grief and subverts #the grief is unbelievable and understated despite very contrived devices it doesn't *feel* like it's rolling in its own cleverness

i also made playlists of the kind of music i think they'd listen to :') you can listen to spot's here. most tracks fall under the hardcore subgenre, but there's also a good amount of ska and pop. generally has a chaotic, garage, and/or dated kind of sound, really wanted the kind of stuff that scratches my brain in a specific, rough way

there's also sarah's playlist, which i'm less confident about because i'm wayyy more immersed in punk subculture and music. but. i tried! some gothic rock, mostly punkabilly and gothabilly. i feel like she'd be into music that has that campy slasher feel, so that's the overall mood i was gunning for

#newsies #92sies #uksies #sarah jacobs #spot conlon #drawings #confession idk anything about uksies this is purely based on vibes bcuz the concept of a pinoy nonbinary spot has charmed me #anyways more nerdy stuff ahead i am so sorry >>>#i heart thinking about what characters would be like if they were punk it is so fun #i view sarah as punk usually so it's interesting to compare & contrast her and spot #like sarah i personally cant see modifying her hair or her body much. she'd mostly stick to diying clothes and jewelry #so while she IS punk she's not the kind of punk that most people auto think of #but spot feels like someone who'd /really/ want to lean into all the trappings of punk. being intimidating AND cool #so they're spiky all over. hair piercings jacket are sharp #sarah's battle jacket is a comfortable corduroy material. it's colorful and has random scraps of fabric bcuz the goal is #to make the original jacket last as long as possible #whereas spot's has more inflammatory patches and is strictly black and white and has the sleeves cut off #and has non fabric stuff attached like the spikes and studs and also soda can tabs #because they also strike me as someone who collects random odds and ends. hence the bottle caps repurposed as pins #i also wanted to play around with adding chains and safety pins onto their jacket but alas #ultimately had to prioritize readability #same thing w sarah i wanted to give her layered necklaces and more maximalist elements to her outfit but it ended up muddying everything up #anyways. im insane but specificity is very important to me for punk stuff just because i think #'punk versions of xyz' tend to water down what punk actually is by prioritizing the aesthetics of rebellion without being specific #in What they are rebelling against. which is why these headcanons lack inflammatory political ideas and punk bands #or like they'll just have the circle A sign and it's like ok but do you know what anarchism is and what anarchist praxis looks like #also spot would not be an anarchist tbh they read as more of a commie #they are not doing nonhierarchical based organizing iykyk

the kyoshi flashback in Avatar Day and the sheer scale of ba sing se in comparison to…. literally everywhere else in the world really has me thinking about the politics that lead to such distinct “nations”. it makes way more sense for a land as vast as the earth kingdom to have once been earth kingdoms with local land disputes between feudal lords - as we see with the conflict kyoshi ended - only for a world-spanning war to have driven first the lords to unite under ba sing se’s banner for protection, and then as the war continued, increasing waves and waves of refugees and oma shu standing as the only remaining hold out due to their unique position (top of a mountain - most other earth kingdom towns we see are in valleys) such would explain how many ruins and ghost towns we see throughout s2 but also the improbability of a land that big to be unified under a single leader for that long

(POSIC+ : (the) Perception of Object Sentience, Individuality, and Consciousness)

I think his relationship and perception of things like his swords (which he see's as having distinct personalities and consiousness') aswell as his view of the going merry (chapter 327, last page) being just as sentient as usopp and luffy make it so i wouldnt consider it a streatch to interpret his character this way.

#im going thru old flipnotes i used to watch years ago and ouggghhg so many good ones #is twenty one pilots still popular.... do people still remember the TRNDSTTER and marble soda meme.........#its like im unlocking some sort of primal part of my brain and everything is coming back to me. one of my biggest inspirations as a kid #i still remember thinking the final transmission lyrics were the coolest thing and watching =TopHat= Bee and Melissa over and over #theres a very specific feeling of longing and nostalgia looking back and watching these again years later #especially when there isnt anything genshin or mcyt and instead its either fnaf undertale eddsworld or another obscure #interest... and not even fnaf sister location its like fnaf 3 and 2. its THAT old. and a lot of oc MVs especially pokemon ocs and furries..#god but they were so creative u know. i still find it amazing ppl took this little lightbox animation on the fucking NINTENDO DS and #cranked it all the way to 11.. like if u look at the transitions and movement its so fucking fluid its insane..!! HOW DO YOU MAKE THE #CHARACTERS SPIN??? AND CHANGING CAMERA ANGLES??? and keep in mind youre doing this all with a shitty stylus #on a THREE BY TWO INCH SCREEN. you only get two layers you can go up to 29FPS and you only have 999 slides to work with #and 24FPS eats up a lot of that. absolutely insane it literally boggles my mind every time i think about it.
