Hello, lovely human! I'm glad to see you at this little corner of the internet :))

I'm Arianna (she/her) -- writer, poet, queer Christian, feminist, ENFJ, and constant fangirl. I've wanted to live in a library since I entered the world; if you wanted to describe me in book characters....think Nina Zenik crossed with Elizabeth Bennet, Wylan Van Sunshine, Holly Munro, and Samwise Gamgee. I'm always dreaming of other worlds while learning to love this one.

I battle anxiety, depression, and OCD; literature and art has become my greatest coping mechanism and teacher. the only thing I love more than sunsets are sunrises; I fall in love with the little things everyday. the stars are the greatest comfort :) at this given moment, I'm probably working on my novel; listening to Taylor Swift/ Hozier/ Boygenius/ Noah Kahan while sketching or painting; putting even more books on my library hold list, cuddling my cats, or fangirling over old poetry.

Tea Eggs!!

You know what I haven't written in a while? A cooking/food post! Someone asked me something on Twitter which got me thinking and I figured I'd finally write about making food again, so I'm pretty happy to have something to post on here again.

Immediately at the start of writing this I understand why recipes come with a background story, because cooking IS personal and at least, since I'm not a recipe blog, what investment do you really have in this if I'm not saying something about it? But I'll put the extraneous details after the recipe. This is far from a formal recipe and just a musing of what I did. I mostly did it to taste but these are some approximate measurements:

6-8 eggs 4 cups of water 4 bags black tea 3 tablespoons dark soy sauce 2 tablespoons regular soy sauce 1 tablespoon sugar 4 teaspoons salt 2 teaspoons Shaoxing wine 1 teaspoon five spice powder

Important to note: Make as many eggs as you want as long as it'll all fit in the marinade you make - it's gotta cover all of the eggs, no peekin' out. If you need less marinade, i.e. you're putting it in a tight ziplock bag, feel free to halve or otherwise divide the ingredients to fit.

Make the marinade in a saucepan with all the ingredients besides eggs. I started boiling the water and put the ingredients in one by one. I cut open the tea bags and dumped it all in. The five spice powder is out of convenience - if you look up all the spices included in it, like sichuan peppercorn and star anise and cinnamon etc., and have all of those on hand, you can use those as well, but this is a simple recipe for a simple person.

After mixed and boiling, let it cool off to the side.

Soft boil eggs in another pot, put them in an ice bath afterwards or run them under cold water for a few minutes, whatever your jam is.

Gently (GENTLY!!) use the back of a spoon or something to crack the eggshells while leaving them on, but not break through too much of the egg. The marinade is pretty strong so you could theoretically just completely peel them and soak them for a shorter amount of time, but I like to make them traditionally.

Put the eggs into the marinade and simmer/warm them for like, an hour. After that, let the marinade cool down again, cover it, and refrigerate it for up to 24 hours. That's it!

*Notes*

The dark soy sauce is mostly for the marbling/color of it. If you want a darker marbling, you can add more and reduce the salt. Like I mentioned, I did a lot of it kind of by vibes, so I added in a little more soy sauce and salt myself.

I had a test egg after I simmered them for an hour. Simmer? Warm? As long as it's not boiling, you don't actually want to thoroughly cook the eggs unless you're okay with super overboiled eggs. Tasted good, but did taste so much better after soaking for a day. I note soft boiled above because when you simmer them they do cook a bit again, and traditionally it is hard-boiled, but if you want them not overboiled you should do the soft boil initially.

As seen in the picture above, I marinated it in a saucepan overnight and put some clingwrap over it. My first attempt I only made 3 eggs, and they fit in a mason jar so I just put it all in a mason jar and used maybe half of that recipe above. If you don't want a big ole saucepan, you can also put the marinade in a big ziplock bag that'll stay securely tight. As long as the marinade is covering ALL of the egg!

This is what I mean by marbling! OBVIOUSLY these pictures aren't great (I have never claimed to be a photographer) but this is just to show what the end result should look like. Sometimes the marbling doesn't really come through but it still tastes nice!

I grew up with tea eggs always at the grocery store and able to grab 'em any time I wanted. They were usually always warmed in a crock pot as you grabbed them with tongs, but since I'm not running a crock pot for days as I finish eating them all I have them cold and they're still glorious. You can honestly marinade them 8-24 hours or so, I just like marinading for longer so the color really comes through and for more of the taste to soak in. Marinade them too long and I think they'll get too salty. It's a great subtle flavor, and you can reuse the marinade for another batch if you're making more in a short amount of time (refresh ingredients a lil that may have evaporated) or I know you can theoretically cook meat and vegetables in that marinade so you'll have something tasty from it.

I'm (AS USUAL, everyone moans) having culture feels and been wanting to cook more as a result. Most of it has manifested in veggie soup or varying noodle dishes, but tea eggs are near and dear to my heart and honestly I am so glad they were easier to make than I thought. I have a lot of weird vibes and euughh, trauma 🙄 over being in the kitchen just due to weird family stuff I grew up with so cooking is a real chore for me. Ultimately this uses two small pots (saucepans? pots? whatever they're called) and a tablespoon so the dishes to clean afterwards is minimal.

I really like the tea eggs and I really like that I can make them now, and I wanted to share that. I will probably fixate on them for a hot second! They've got such a nice flavor and my whole apartment smells good after. Let me know if you make any! Thanks for reading.

So I got Sims 4 on Friday. Thanks to @chris-the-dragonslayer I already got a bunch of custom content and mods and trustworthy source to get more, and after spending the weekend finding the CC for eyes, skin etc to create my OCs I finally could start for real yesterday, aka Sunday evening. I had a test Sim because I needed to get used how to control some of the things on PC after playing it on Playstation before thanks to my brother. So my Lyran/Ari brainrot continued. With the WickedWhims mod I shouldn't have created the Sims as close as possible to their OC counterparts, but here we are. First, pics of my lovely Sims.

It wouldn't allow me to give Lyran the slender face he actually has, but this is close enough. @stormbrightwriter you may swoon now lol So, what did their Sim counterparts do? Well, I just put them in one household and went like: Wait and see. The first moment: Sims were smitten. Me: Okay.... this will be funny. Next step: SimLyran is the live of the party, entertaining the neighbors while SImArritit hides to read a book. (I feel ya, girl) So far, so good right? Funnily close to their OC versions but that was the plan. SimLyran causing all the fires in the kitchen when he tries to cook? Too funny, because StoryLyran isn't the best cook either (but it is edible) SimAri gets flirted at a lot but ignores it (which is too funny) But then came the moment these Sims killed me. 5 Minutes.... it took 5 minutes IRL time for them to fuck AND get pregnant. Like right away. (Which is funny, because in some later part of the whole series Sojan teases Lyran to be hyperfertile since most kids are biological his)

So yes, I have a lot of fun with this, I love how hilarious close the Sims Versions behave to their written versions. Who knows what kind of inspiration I can take out of it.

As for me...

The first story I ever remember writing was for my English classs in primary school. It was my final year, so I'd have been about 10, and I wrote a story called "Rosie the Rabbit Goes on an Adventure".

It was about my pet rabbit, Rosie, breaking out of her hutch (which she was quite prone to do) and, of course, going on an adventure. I don't remember where she went. Probably through mum's vegetable patch, since everything else in the premise was based in reality, but it was the first time a teacher was willing to put one of my stories up on the class board, even though it was longer than two A4 pages in length (the usual limit).

I think it ended up being four A4 pages, but Mrs Hargrave put it up anyway and that was very vindicating for me :D

The one piece of advice I wish I could have given myself while writing it was probably to take a little more care with the actual plot. By that point I was very used to my stories not getting put up on the class display board, so I wasn't putting a whole lot of effort into it.

Or possibly to ask for a copy. I never got that story back once it come down from the board, so it's lost to time. Thinking about it, that might be a good thing!

i don't think i'm all that great at sappy stuff but you 100% deserve it so here goes

how are you so amazing? actually scratch that, why are you so amazing? you just. choose to be like that? how and why are very different questions and if i'm being honest, the why is more interesting. you have the option to be closed off. to not be so nice to everyone. i wouldn't blame you if you were. i don't think you would be rude, but it's rare that i come across a person who, for lack of a better-put way to describe it, just radiates kindness and hope. like you. hope is also an interesting word. do you remember that post? i don't know it word for word but it goes something like "hope has blood on her face and tears in her eyes. hope is a fighter" and that makes me happy. because just like how you choose to be kind and funny and lovely, you've somehow helped me choose to have a lot more hope. i don't know much about who i am but i always thought i was pretty pessimistic and nihilistic. you know what? i think i was just sad. i'm still sad but. i used to think of being optimistic, of having hope and faith, as a bad thing. a weak thing. it's different now because i met you! you're happy and hopeful, and i also know for a fact that you aren't weak or naive. that kind of rewired my brain a bit? if someone as wonderful as you is so hopeful, maybe it isn't bad. maybe if i was more like you i could make someone else feel what i feel when i'm talking to you. i would love that. you're my role model, ari. who i wanna be when i grow up.

just. you're full of light. oh my god your url doesn't do you justice. you ARE the sunrise. and i love you. and when i'm talking to you, just a bit of all my fears and worries and anxieties are lifted off my shoulders. i don't know how you do it. i think if everyone was more like you, we'd all be having a much better time.

hmmmmm. your pfp is exactly your vibe. you told me your favourite colour is the colours the grass is when there's sun shining on it and i think that was the moment i stopped and thought for a second. i'd never thought of describing colours like moments. you make me feel sentimental. i think that reminded me that i'm a mosaic of everyone i have ever loved. i like baking because it reminds me of the time my best friend and i tried to bake cookies but i accidentally put a cup of salt instead of sugar and we only found out when after an hour or so of hard work we tasted the cookies and she spat them out immediately. we laughed SO HARD and she still brings it up. the first real book i ever read was gifted to me by my dad. it was the graveyard book by neil gaiman and not only did it spark my love for reading and my affinity for neil gaiman, every single time i start a new book i remember my eight year old self bragging to my friends about reading 300 whole pages. the first time i went ice skating was on a school field trip when i was ten. i fell and my lovely fourth grade teacher helped me up. i still talk to her sometimes, she was so wonderful. the stranger who complimented my outfit. the old woman who talked to me about books on the train. the bookshop worker who i talked to about good omens for hours. they were so happy to find someone who loved it as much as they did.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH *goes on screaming into oblivion because i can't coherantly verbalize how much i love you* *frantically tries to take deep breaths so i can talk* *melts into a puddle on the floor sobbing* okay okay i'm going to try to reply to this like a coherent human being.

HOPE IS A FIGHTER that's literally one of my favorite quotes ever. in a way, i think everything i do is somehow related to hope. it's waiting for the sunrise, yk? it's trusting that something good is coming even if you can't see it, that there's light on the other side of the earth, that love can be invisible but never absent. i truly believe from the bottom of my heart that real love is rebellion and hope is grit and wonder is strength. we live in a world trying to kill our sense of curiousity and joy. OF COURSE we'd be told that it's weak. OF COURSE we'd be told it's useless. and yet. i believe that to see the love everywhere we look...that is true strength.

to try and answer the 'how and why' i rlly couldn't not talk about my faith. and also pain. i'd like to tell this story without the pain, yk? i'd like to tell it clean, but i can't. (as richard siken says: I'd like to tell you this story without having to be in it.)

I identify as Christian. and I know I'm the ' wrong kind of christian' for a lot of people. I'm queer, and I believe in queer marriage. I own crystals, I meditate, and I have an altar (that doesn't have any crucifixes etc etc on it). I could talk a LOT more about this, but that isn't really the story rn. the point is, i look at the BIble and I see this huge overarching story about love and grace and hope getting bogged down by mostly silly questions. there's a verse that says with the measure you use, it will be measured for you, and that really has come to define so much for me. with the measure i use. with the measure i see the world. how am I supposed to look around and point fingers when I have been the person on the other end? how am I supposed to expect love if i do not give it?

and the pain, dammit. I've been the person in pain and i haven't handled it well. who am I to point fingers at the cashier who snapped at me in the grocery store? God knows I still regret the anger I've bled after sleepless nights. who am I to look at someone struggling with mental health, addiction, literally anything, and think myself better, smarter?? i am not better or smarter. i just had lifelines that were given to me by the grace of God.

there's more verses. there is no fear in love, for perfect love drives out fear...Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends....Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love...there's the greatest commandments: "love the lord your god with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind. and the second is like it: love your neighbor as yourself.'

but really, for me, it all comes down to the verse 'we love because he first loved us.' i am shown love. i am showered in love every damn day. i am loved in sunsets and stars and depression showers and fresh breezes and the smile of a stranger on the train. i am loved in pain when I have nothing but curses, I am loved in strength when I had none of my own, I am loved in hope when I had none to give. I can love because I am eternally adored. the only love and peace I can offer is what has already been given to me. and christianity -- to me -- is a religion which in its truest form is about the intersection between love and pain. God looking at his people and saying I love you so much I'm willing to die, I'm willing to bleed, I'm willing to go through every torment to save you from a little pain. I'm willing to die to be near you. how can i walk away from that and NOT be a little kinder??

so no. I couldn't tell this story without the pain. I couldn't be who i am without a long list of mental illnesses and that spicy lil chronic illness. i'm not sure if i could tell my story the same way without it. would i still run out to watch the sunrise if I hadn't felt the burn of the long nights? maybe we love life a little better when we've fought to have it. maybe my joy means more when I fought tooth and nail to take it back.

there's a writer i absolutely adore, anais nin. and she wrote during world war two about the 'rebellion of love' and simply yes. she wrote, "I have a kind of courage which you do not understand. I am far from being blind or indifferent, but I will not indulge in passive, impotent despair. I will not add to the despair of the world. I am working on counterpoisons.' she would go on to say that her 'counterpoisons' are 'a small but loving world, cells of devotion, care, work, to fight the madness of this world.' she would say that the only way to face true love and joy was to go straight through and out the other side -- that it was impossible to fully treasure a sunrise unless you battled a night for it. she said "the secret of joy is the mastery of pain." you cannot have one without the other.

and God. i am SAD. i am sad SO MUCH. joy doesn't mean you've beat the pain. it doesn't mean you've won, it means you're fighting. it means you hold your sadness by the hand and kiss their cheek and say come inside, let's eat some soup. you are not unloved by me.

and yes yes yes yes YES you are so right. we are accumaltions of the things we have loved, the way we have loved. it all comes back to love, for me. what we're given. what we show. i do think the universe is a story about love. i think each of us is a story about love. i think we're poems and songs and paintings in human form, and I have bled to write mine, and who the fuck am I to look at another bleeding person and hate what I see? Bradley Trumpfheller said lord, we owe the world such tenderness and yes. yes. this is a tender and a bloody world. this is a kind and a feral world. but the loves goes out and returns and we are never, ever alone.

I know who i am. I am beloved. and what greater joy than to pass that to another?
