How’s this for #colorful #historybounding ?? I think this has a slightly Victorian look to it if you ignore the lack of corset and curls I suppose. I purchased a white dress from @dharmatradingco and dyed it, then found a recent-vintage piece of lace in my stash, dyed that... and married the two. I’ve worn this dress many times without realizing that channeling a bygone era was a thing people do on purpose - and there is a word for it. #howcoolisthat Oh, and my hubby likes this dress. #smile ⚜️ Oh, and my hair is fuchsia and purple. LOL! I will never pass for a time traveler! ⚜️ I love this type of clothing because I don’t conform well. I can’t stand wearing something that someone else has, and most modern clothing doesn’t fit properly, was made cheaply, and with really awful fabric. But I’m not picky or anything (LOL!) I just can’t afford the kind of clothing I would actually like to wear. ⚜️ Plus, my sweet little Mennonite mother dressed me funny as a child, so I got used to not fitting in. Honestly though, I sound like I’m complaining, but that choice was prophetic. My parents somehow knew that not fitting in was a life skill I would need - and while I was not happy about it as a child, I get it now. And only the truly brave dare to stand out and be their authentic selves. 💕 (And I’m getting braver in my old age.) ⚜️ Y’all, I have been bitten by the bug. I want to sew some bespoke clothing. I am absolutely fascinated by the clothing of my #Mennonite ancestors, and the historic #Quaker and #amish dress. So I have some fun ideas and let’s see what happens, shall we? I’m looking for fabric now, and then I’m going to make some stuff. #mennonitehistorybounding And I realized that I have two bank boxes of vintage lace, loads of old buttons, and some old linen table cloths... so it’s possible that I could make some stuff without even spending a fortune on new stuff. Oh....
