The question is always when to stop and when to allow something new. Sometimes it means recreating a story and covering most of it and leaving glimpses of the original piece. This is what happened here. I do love how the old story shapes the new one as it guides the colour play. oh hey didn’t you say that you were organising ruina assets by character? I know this is unlikely but any chance you could share it?

oh! well yes, but also no. in regards to the organizing assets thing, imean.

specifically what i was doing was grabbing sprites n making little paperdolls out of em picrewstyle for fun little talksprites! basically just taking and layering their images so you can change their expression n stuff.

if you want asset refs though, [this] might be of more use to you! which is Actually That. in a googledrive form :] its been immensely useful for ref purposes, so hopefully it helps at least with Something!

Finally experimenting with materials for my Comics Vs Art illustration. I will hopefully work on the environment around making some sourdough bread today. The base is going to be charcoal. I am going to include color accents. I have color pencils, watercolor, and marker. I may not use markers with the risk of staining the nibs. It may sound weird, but I may go with layering watercolor over charcoal. Do you use visual inspiration when you create or do you try to make a go of it with what you’ve filed away in your memory? Most of the time I choose memory over a visual piece. I’m often paralyzed with fear when creating from someone else’s work. Instead, I’ll study a beautiful or inspirational piece for a few moments, hours, even days, then close the book on it. Sometime after that, whether in that moment or days later I’ll try to pull snippets from my memory. I don’t attempt to recreate the piece as a whole, but instead try to recall the colors, lines, shapes, or composition that first captured my attention. I like creating this way. It feels safe and allows me to remain authentic when I make art. I’d love to hear your favorite way to collect art ideas. Is there an art technique that you love that’s rooted in the basics? For me it’s etching in paint. I never get tired of this rudimentary process.
