Steve being the one who is actually a fountain of queer knowledge because he has a gay uncle in San Francisco or New York, one of the cities that had the biggest queer communities.

Robin not having much information because she's a closeted teenage lesbian who can't drive, so she has nowhere to source that information without raising the suspicions of her parents.

Eddie doesn't have the chance because he can't afford to spend weekends in Indianapolis or Chicago, because weekends mean parties, and parties are one of the best times to deal. He might go occasionally, but just hitting up a bar to find a dude to hook up with, not getting into queer theory because he doesn't really care to. He doesn't bother to learn about hanky code or anything else, because he's not interested. All he's interested in is getting a little action.

But Steve? He spent a lot of time with his uncle, Hank, while growing up. Anytime his family was in the area, they would stay with Hank. Sure, Steve's parents would try to explain his partner, Joe, as a friend or a roommate, but Steve always knew. He could see how in love they were, even more than his parents.

It became normal for him. He heard the words that other people would throw around, how they would talk about how dangerous, how disgusting two men together was. But he couldn't understand why people thought so badly about it. Because Hank and Joe were so happy together and they weren't hurting anyone.

When he was twelve, they were the first people he told when he had the conflicting feelings of having a crush on a pretty girl named Annika in the grade above, but also really wanting to kiss Tommy every time the other boy laughed at one of his jokes. Joe and Hank just listened to him, then taught him about bisexuality. That it was perfectly normal to like both. They gave him gentle warnings, that he would have to be careful because people were cruel.

And because his parents had left him with them for a couple of weeks, they took advantage of it to introduce Steve to other people. They took him to a tiny queer bookshop that was run by a friend of theirs, giving him a space to learn in safety. Because of them, he met people of so many different orientations lesbians, bisexuals, gay men. Self-proclaimed dykes and faggots. Transexuals, men who were once women and women who were once men¹ and people that pushed the boundaries of gender entirely. He felt in awe of all these people, but also loved and accepted by everyone he met.

A few years later, the summer of '82, age 15 and between freshman and sophomore year, he was sat down for a more serious conversation. The day after he arrived, Hank and Joe sat him down for a serious talk about safe sex, in way more detail than what he got from his parents, which was just a pack of condoms appearing in his bathroom on his fifteenth birthday, with a note saying to use them so he wouldn't get a girl pregnant. The talk emphasized the need for a barrier during any type of sex, and brought up the very real risk of GRID, which had yet to be renamed AIDS², to point out why he had to be incredibly careful with everyone he had sex with. But they also made a point to reassure him that they were both okay, that he didn't have to worry about them. They made sure that he knew that they were always there for him, just a phone call away if he ever had any concerns or questions.

A year later, at 16, they decided he was ready for more information. They provided him with pamphlets and zines, covering everything from rights movements to AIDS to secret codes. He took an interest in the hanky code, but felt a little intimidated about what some of the colors meant. They also provided him with a fake id that declared that he was twenty one and that his name was Mark. While he was staying with them, he joined them out in the community. Meeting the people affected by AIDS, learning about the real effects of it and not just the few scare stories that were breaking through on the news. Hearing more stories of lived life, getting a better understanding of the people around him.

Just a few months later, November '83. When everything went to shit. Steve was terrified when he saw the photos Jonathan had taken from outside his house and developed in the school dark room. He couldn't help getting stuck on the what if? What if it wasn't Nancy he had in his room? What if it had been that night when he and Tommy got a little too drunk and kissed each other? What if he'd finally got the nerve to bring a guy home? His life could have been destroyed in seconds by an asshole being a creep.

He became more on guard, scared that at any point someone could be taking photos in his backyard. Then seeing Jonathan with Nancy in her room, it pushed him further. With the fight the next day, he just wanted to make his words hurt. He dug deep and threw out accusations that he'd never wanted to say. Allowing his anger and fear to take over. The moment the word queer left his mouth, he felt an uneasy sense of regret. Accusing someone else of being what he was, as if it was a bad thing.

After it was all over, the details were shared, the cover stories were given, the paperwork declaring that nothing had happened had been signed, Steve felt lost and alone. Even after apologizing, he still felt dirty for calling Jonathan queer. After a few days, he breaks and calls Hank and Joe, and tells them, well not everything, but what he can. The photos, the camera, the fight. What he said to Jonathan. They understood his anger and his fear. They disagreed with his choice of words, but told him that if he'd apologized and meant it, and it had been accepted, there was no point in him continuing to beat himself up about it. That he couldn't change the past, but he had to try and be better in the future.

The following summer, 1984, he joined them with a new hatred and fear of the government. He felt safer with them, not feeling like he was looking over his shoulder all the time. But he was also so worried, what if the Upside Down came back when he wasn't there to help. He threw himself into helping others, knowing there were so many ways that the government was willing to screw over citizens. Wanting to do the little he could when he could. It brought him some peace of mind, being able to do something.

After Starcourt, after getting discharged from the hospital, Steve confides in Robin. He tells her about Hank and Joe. About how much he'd learnt from them. He tells her that he's bisexual, a word she was unfamiliar with, but she embraces him anyway. He spins a story of all the different people he'd met, people that proved it could be okay for people like them.

It formed an even deeper bond between them, a shared understanding that they couldn't find in anyone else their age. They share secrets about crushes, about realizations. Judging how attractive customers are together once they got the jobs at Family Video. Steve showed Robin the zines, helping her pick up more pieces of information, about how many others there were out there.

Steve clocked Vickie pretty quickly, almost certain she was bisexual like he was. Robin struggled to believe him, not wanting to get her hopes up, or to risk getting hurt.

When Eddie crashed into their lives during the spring break from hell, Steve found himself falling hard and fast. He'd noticed the black bandana Eddie wore tucked into his back left pocket, and wanted it. He had never considered being into s&m, but would be willing to take anything Eddie gave him.

He tried to bring it up subtly to Eddie, only to be met with confusion. Even trying less subtle ways of questioning it, Eddie still didn't seem to get it. Steve had to ask if he was flagging, and Eddie responded by asking what flagging was. Steve felt mortified, and stuttered about it being a code, and he thought Eddie was gay. Eddie assured him that he was gay, but still had no clue what Steve was talking about with flagging.

Steve showed Eddie the zines as well, going through all the different colors of the hanky code. Eddie got a little embarrassed when he realized what he'd been signalling, but some of the interactions he'd had with guys the few times he'd been to a gay bar made a lot more sense.

It took a few more days after that for Eddie to realize what Steve had been getting at by bringing up him flagging. There was another awkward, and slightly embarrassing conversation to confirm that yes, they were into each other, and no, neither of them were actually into s&m.

(And of course, Hank and Joe got a kick out of the story when they were the first ones Steve told, other than Robin.)

¹I wrote it this way, as it would have been a way that twelve year old could understand different gender identities in 1979. Different language and terminology was used. I believe that it is up to individual trans people for how they describe and consider themselves pre and post coming out and transition, as it is a very personal thing. I'm non-binary and I consider anything about myself under the age of 17 to be a girl, because that's how I identified at that time. ²(AIDS was known by a bunch of different names, some less kind than others, including GRID [Gay-related immune deficiency] and 4H disease [Heroin users, homosexuals, hemophiliacs and Haitians], until the summer of 1982. The name AIDS was proposed on July 27th 1982, and came into use by the CDC in September of that year. The term HIV came into use in 1986.)

This was supposed to be a quick little headcanon, and it ended up taking me nearly a month to write 1.5k words. And I now want to write so many parts about Steve with his relationship to Hank and Joe. They're the gay uncles everyone deserves.

Mig/Bezz fake dating au, part 1

Celestino’s new girlfriend is a smokeshow. She’s absolutely far too sexy to be dating Celestino, but she’s clearly smitten with him. She laughs at all of his jokes, even the stupid ones that make Bezz cringe. They look at each other with stars in their eyes, and Cele talks to her like she’s a princess. 

It makes Bezz sick. 

He knows that Cele has never claimed to be anything but straight. Bezz genuinely has no reason to believe that Cele could be gay, or bisexual, or that he would be into him if he were gay. He can’t help but be jealous, though. He and Cele have been friends for so long, and they are on the same page on everything. Bezz knows that he knows Celestino better than his girlfriend, and he always will. They’d be so good together. 

He isn’t sure what sparks the idea of trying to make Cele jealous, but once it’s in his head he can’t stop thinking about it. He thinks about it basically every time he sees Cele with his girlfriend, and he grits his teeth and thinks about what it would be like to have Cele look at him like that. If Cele just gave him a chance, they could be so happy. 

The more he thinks about it the more a plan starts to form, and he begins thinking about who he could use to make Cele jealous. It would have to be someone that could make it believable; Bezz considers trying to find a stranger, but he knows he would feel too awkward to make the romance believable. Besides, the idea of using a stranger for something like this doesn’t sit right with him. It needs to be a friend; someone Bezz knows won’t catch feelings but who would feel comfortable pretending to have feelings for him. 

Mig.

He texts him abruptly. 

Mig’s agreement sends a thrill through Bezz. He knows that, despite Mig’s hesitations, he’ll make it believable. 

Bezz invites Mig over to plan.

When Mig arrives, Bezz has to focus on staying calm. He’s just so excited at the idea of making Cele finally fall in love with him. 

“Thank you for your service,” he says seriously, taking Mig’s hand as he comes in. 

Mig looks incredulous. 

“This is going to blow up in your face,” he warns. 

Bezz huffs. “I know that you think that. But what if it doesn’t and he falls in love with me?”

Mig snorts. “Then I will officiate your wedding.”

Bezz thinks he’s kidding but he doesn’t care. 

“Deal,” he says, seriously. “Now, we need to talk about the rules. We have to make it look real, or he’ll know what I’m trying to do and it won’t work.”

He drags Mig to the couch by his hand, and he sits right up next to him. 

“We already spend a lot of time together,” he says. “We talk all the time. It won’t be hard to make it look like we’re really dating.”

Mig looks expectantly at him. 

“We just need to talk about, um,” Bezz hesitates. “How far you’re willing to go.”

Migno gives him a flat look. “Are you asking me to put out?”

“No!” Bezz denies, spluttering as Mig finally breaks and laughs raucously at him. 

Bezz flushes, elbowing Mig. 

“No, I mean are you willing to kiss me? I know the point is to make Cele jealous but I don’t want you to be uncomfortable.”

Mig looks at him, grinning, and then launches himself at Bezz. He plants a kiss on Bezz’s mouth, and Bezz squeaks in surprise. Mig pulls away, still grinning. 

“If I’m going to do this I’m going all in, baby,” he promises. 

Bezz wonders for a moment what he has decided to get himself into. 

Their first test of their fake relationship is a fairly easy task. It’s a regular day at the ranch, where they’ll spend most of the time riding anyway. Bezz finds himself nervous, though. He and Mig meet up and drive together, and Bezz is thankful that the bumpy road toward the ranch distracts him from some of his nerves. 

“Don’t be nervous,” Mig says, reaching over to squeeze his leg. “It’s just a regular training day. Maybe you hold my hand for a bit. Maybe I grab your ass.”

Bezz snorts. 

“Other than that, it’s a totally normal day.”

Bezz nods, taking a deep breath as he parks the car. He tries not to focus too hard on acting natural, knowing that will probably have the opposite effect. He knows he’s overthinking things, but he can’t help it. He is nervous to see what Cele’s reaction is. He takes their things out of the trunk, and he squeaks as Mig squeezes his ass. 

He nearly bashes his head on the trunk as he whirls around, but there’s no one around. 

“You need to calm down,” Mig asks. “Is that how you would react if we were really dating?”

Bezz huffs. “You wouldn’t do that if we were dating!”

Mig laughs. 

“Yes I would! That’s why you need to relax. It’s going to be fine! Otherwise you’ll need to break up with me and it will be messy.”

Bezz finishes hauling their things from the trunk with a groan, giving Mig a severe look. Mig seems to feel a little glee at Bezz’s anguish and Bezz can’t help but stick his tongue out childishly. 

“You asked for this,” Mig reminds him unhelpfully.

Mig continues to bother him as they carry their things into the changing room at the ranch, and Bezz finds himself relaxing. It’s normal to act this way with Mig. 

Despite that, Bezz has to admit that he does a better job of pretending they’re dating than Bezz does. He doesn’t go overboard; he sticks close to Bezz’s side, and their normal banter takes on a flirty edge. He’s just a little touchier than normal, pressing their helmets together or taking his hand for a moment. When they’re all finished and showered and hanging around talking, Mig drags their chairs next to each other. 

He leans over to whisper in Bezz’s ear. 

“Put your arm across the back of my chair.”

Bezz’s brain short-circuits for a moment before he follows Mig’s directions. 

Mig leans back against his arm, otherwise not calling attention to it. Still, Bezz sees Cele look curiously at their position, and Bezz takes it as a small victory. He lifts his hand to the back of Mig’s neck, and plays with the hair there. 

He hears Mig stutter in his conversation with Luca, but otherwise the action is totally normal. Bezz finds that the repetitive motion has a calming effect on him. 

It doesn’t occur to Bezz that others will think anything of their behavior until he locks eyes with Pecco, who looks pointedly at where his hand is wrapped in Mig’s hair, and he raises an eyebrow. Bezz can feel his face heat up, but he smiles and shrugs. Mig seems to notice, and he reaches over to squeeze Bezz’s leg.

Pecco doesn’t seem overly shocked, a fact that Bezz files away for later. He had thought they’d at least get some sort of reaction, and the longer they go on with very little fanfare the more he relaxes. Mig was right, and it’s not actually that different than they normally are. 

By the time they’re ready to leave, Bezz is happily holding Mig’s hand. They’re laughing and joking as usual, and it’s comfortable and normal.

His eyes keep flickering to Celestino, but he unfortunately hasn’t been able to catch his eye. He’s a little disappointed that Cele hasn’t really reacted, and he wonders if he should step up the public affection next time. He asks Mig when they get in the car.

“We have to do it slowly,” Mig answers. “We can’t go from holding hands to humping each other, Bezz.”

Bezz guffaws. 

“I don’t want to hump you! I was thinking maybe we kiss.”

Mig shrugs.

“Okay. Next time we are with Celestino.”

The next time they are out together as a “couple”, Celestino is not present. They are meeting Pecco and Domizia for dinner, and Bezz is surprised when Mig takes his hand. 

“Unless you want to tell them we’re not really dating, we need to keep up the act,” Mig points out. 

“Oh,” Bezz says. He hadn’t thought of that. 

Mig holds the door open for him, and Bezz smiles and thanks him. 

Pecco and Domi are easy to find, and Bezz is delighted to see her. He kisses both of her cheeks and steps out of the way for Mig to do the same. He glances over to see Pecco watching them carefully, and as he sits down he knows his face is red. 

“So,” Domizia says, pointing her finger at Bezz and Mig, and looking at both of them in turn. “What is all this?”

Bezz grins sheepishly and shrugs. “It’s new,” he says.

“No it’s not,” Pecco says, and Bezz looks at him in confusion. 

“Come on,” Pecco says, rolling his eyes. “This is the least shocking relationship development I’ve ever seen. You two have basically been married for years.”

Bezz stares at him, brain fully shutting down and waiting on a reboot. 

“No we haven’t,” Mig protests.

“You basically have,” Domizia says, taking a sip of her wine. “You always drive everywhere together. Bezz is always falling asleep on you. You are always out together.”’

Bezz opens his mouth to argue that he’s far more married to Celestino, which is the problem, but his brain finally turns back on and he remembers that the goal is to make people believe they’re dating, not to argue about it. He forces a smile. 

“It really isn’t that much of a change, is it?” 

He makes eye contact with Mig, who seems a little shell-shocked by the casual manner with which Domizia dropped that bomb. 

The rest of the dinner goes well, and Bezz is smiling when they get back in the car. Bezz drives, as always, and he reaches over to rest a hand on Mig’s thigh. 

Neither of them brings up the comments Domi and Pecco made about this not being a surprise, and Bezz wonders if he’s imagining the awkward air between them. He specifically chose Mig for this task because he thought it would be the least awkward. 

Bezz wants to break the silence but he doesn’t know what to say. Instead, he takes his hand off Mig’s leg and drives the rest of the way home in silence.

tome mentions in one of the semi canon anthologies that kijibayashi asked her out when they were first years and im incorporating that into my worldview. i also think she and takenaka had a like one week long middle school "relationship" that consisted primarily of them being too awkward to speak to each other or be in each other presence until they broke up over text just because it makes alien arc even funnier. also more of a reigen headcanon than a her headcanon but in the context of reigen manga i think it makes sense if reigen was very similar to her in middle school then when he was approaching highschool he was like "well i cant stay passionate about things forever" and dedicated himself solely to being a good student and good employee til he burned himself out.

All of their fics are sweet or at least bittersweet and clearly written with a lot of love for their characters and care for the character's feelings. A lot of their fics have managed to distill queer pining down to its core essence. They are filled with pining, feelings realization, accidental confessions and sometimes even unrequited crushes staying unrequited.

I really do think reading through all of their works is worth it, but if you want to hear my favourites, here's a few recommendations to get you started:

one day I'll fall for you

Steve knows that Eddie is in love with him, he's known for a while. But falling in love back? That takes a little more time.

This really is so well written! I think it is a very realistic examination of relationships. Sometimes you're aware your friend has a crush on you and you both just ignore it and go on with your friendship without anyone ever saying anything. I could relate to both Steve and Eddie. But don't worry! This fic does not end in heartache ;D

Cooking With Love

After the Upside Down, Steve realises Eddie is terrible at eating regular meals, so Steve starts to cook for him. But somewhere along the way, Steve also falls for his friend too.

If you're a sucker for happily ever after endings this one is for you! Mutual pining and Steve taking care of Eddie!

Welcome To Our Club

Eddie invites Robin to a gay club in Indy, but as much as she wants to go, she's also terrified by the prospect. Wanting to be there for his best friend, Steve agrees to go with them. But being in a gay club ends up revealing some unexpected things about Eddie, and about himself.

This fic has everything you could want! Steve being a bisexual disaster, Eddie being jealous, fake relationships, and Steve slowly realizing that maybe he doesn't want it to be so fake.

Sleepiness makes Eddie be a little to honest when Steve offers to pay him back for helping out with the party for a day. Eddie would be happy with just that favour , but Steve thinks a conversation is in order.

When Eddie comes out as gay, he assures Steve that he doesn’t find him hot. Steve tells him it’s fine, he even teasingly asks what he should do to change that. It becomes a thing. A way to always make Eddie laugh, blush and relax around him—but as the days and weeks pass, Steve begins to realise that maybe there’s another reason why he cares so much that Eddie Munson finds him pretty.

Starsdontsleep's newest fic! Eddie comes out and reassures Steve that he's not into him. Steve just thinks he want Eddie to be comfortable around him but soon realizes that maybe he wants Eddie to be a bit more than just comfortable. So he sets up a plan to woo Eddie who is very confused by what is happening!

so easy to like you

As much as Eddie tries to talk himself out of his crush on Steve, to convince himself there's nothing between them… there's just no getting around how much he likes him--or how easy it can be to make a mistake.

To be honest, I find an unrequited love fic where nothing comes of that crush very refreshing. Sometimes things just don't work out and it is no one's fault. Bittesweet but lovely!

how does drake see future?

drake thinks future is a very good example of someone who’s actually made it on his own, the true definition of “getting it out the mud.” he sees this success as partly luck (like he knows future has a lot of random unpredictable hits), he resents how generous future is and how much he wants to help other people - it’s like he sees it as arrogance, that future wants to play God or something, but this is out of jealousy, he’s mad he can’t be that way. he also hates that he knows future is confident and actually really loves who he is. he thinks future is materialistic and all about money, and will do anything to get more, like “i don’t know why you act like you’re better than anyone when you care about money just like the rest of us do.” he sees future as someone who is very cold and unforgiving. like he either likes you or he doesn’t, and it’s hard to win him over again if he doesn’t. he knows future can be vengeful. drake is definitely intimated by future.

how does future see drake?

future feels he sees right through drake in a sense that drake just can’t fit in with their peers (too canadian, too suburban, too nerdy) and that he’s fake because of this and constantly putting on some sort of act. he acts like he knows more than he does, and when he does actually know something he acts like he doesn’t because he doesn’t want people to know what he knows - a massive gatekeeper (even if it’s small like a cool restaurant he likes, he won’t let you know what it’s called until you see it in person because he’s the one taking you there) - no free knowledge. basically, future thinks drake is fake and never authentic, either playing dumb to acting smarter than he is. he thinks drake has decent social skills, but not enough to actually hide who he is.

he thinks drake is highly promiscuous, but in a gross way (and he also thinks drake is bisexual, but really weird about it), he knows drake is really passive aggressive and future has been letting it slide for a very long time, he thinks drake has been a major asshole to him in subtle and pathetic ways and future has genuinely not cared because he tries his best to not let things bother him (but also because he genuinely believes he’s better than drake). but now, he’s mad to the point that if drake ever wanted to squash this whole thing, any attempts at reconciliation or apologizing to future would just fall on deaf ears.

Cashmere Headcanons:

Cashmere was extremely overconfident and cocky after Gloss’s win, and would constantly talk to anyone who would listen about how proud she was of her brother. Everyone at the Academy was sick and tired of her by the time she volunteered, and she just couldn’t care less.

She fell very hard for the propaganda, and fully believed in the glory of the Games before she became a Victor. As a result, she was very one-track minded about her goals: win the Games, bring honor to District 1, love the life of a Victor. I think when that illusion was shattered for her she took it extremely personally, and sort of internalized that lesson.

She was 16 when she volunteered for the Games. Originally she intended on waiting until 18, but after Gloss’s win, she wanted to volunteer as soon as she could. She didn’t understand why he tried to vaguely discourage it, and took it as a lack of faith in her abilities.

She sort of took Finnick under her wing until he became something closer to a friend, and as a result, he is the Victor she is the closest to. They both have a lot in common, and he knows a lot more about her than anyone else (excluding Gloss).

She’s bisexual. There’s quite literally no canon reason for me to believe that other than it feels right. Bisexual vibes are there.

She’s very intelligent. It’s a semi-popular headcanon that she’s a sort of bimbo, but I find that characterization extremely insulting. She rebels against the Capitol the same way the other 75th Tributes do, and I would argue she plays a majorly under-appreciated role in Catching Fire. District 2 is extremely loyal to the Capitol, even more then 1; Brutus and Enobaria weren’t going to try to stop the Games. If she hadn’t started fake crying to garner the audience’s sympathy from the jump, they would have taken the rest of the attempts a lot less seriously.

Despite not believing most of the propaganda District 1 and the Capitol sold her, she still holds a certain level of disdain for the outer districts.

Her and Johanna butt heads a lot because of their shared proximity to Finnick and blatant dislike of each other. Cashmere views her win as a cheap tactic (although admires her manipulation skills) and dislikes how loud and directly defiant she is.

She and Gloss had an extremely close relationship throughout their childhoods, and anything he did, she wanted to do too. They always relied on each other and their parents were fairly neglectful, so Gloss ended up caring for her a lot of the time. However, that relationship became extremely rocky after Gloss won his games, then her, and then Snow started selling them. By the 3rd Quarter Quell, their relationship wasn’t the same level of closeness as before, but it was decently repaired, and they felt they could rely on each other again.

She has a cat. A really prim and proper Siamese cat, with a completely opposite playful personality that she hadn’t originally accounted for. The cat was one of the first things she bought with her Victor money, and she refused to give it away when Gloss offered her a calmer one.

Even amongst District 1 citizens, she is an extremely convincing actress and liar. She knows how to manipulate the Capitol in just the right way to get what she wants, and it causes a level of distrust between her and many of the other non-District 1 Victors.

I wrote some of this in another post but I just wanted to expand on it since I think it’s an interesting subject.

(Also, just putting this upfront, I feel the necessity of clarifying, obviously, bisexual is it’s own identity, it isn’t just a pit stop on the way to someone realizing they’re gay, I’m just talking about trying to figure out who you like or perhaps don’t like being a part of figuring out your sexuality)

The Buster saying Gob might be bisexual moment has been commonly viewed as definitive but personally, I don’t think it was meant to be an answer to the question of Gob’s sexuality. I think it was answering a different question by being one half of an entirely new question. Before, it was “Is he gay or straight?”, the straight option ruling out Gob loving Tony in a gay-umbrella-term way. Just friends. Besties, even. Just a couple of dudes…But we know that’s not true. They are not just a couple of dudes. They are dudes who want to be a couple. So by rewriting it to make it “Is he gay or bisexual?”, that answers “Is Gob’s love for Tony real and very gay-umbrella-term?” with a yes, yes it is. But now, there is a new question that’s been proposed: is he attracted to men and women or just men?

I’m inclined to believe it’s just men.

(I’m not gonna go super in depth cause this has already been discussed so much and I don’t want to be redundant but there are certain elements I haven’t seen discussed that I’ve personally thought about so that’s what this is for)

Gob really does not come across like a bisexual character to me. If he was written as bisexual, I feel like that would’ve been shown more, ya know(for those who know the character, I’m thinking of how they wrote Daryl in Crazy Ex-Girlfriend)? It would’ve a question of “Why do I find both groups attractive?” rather than “Why can’t I find one of these groups attractive?” I mean, the writers know the term bisexual and if that was the intention, why would they include how he hasn’t slept with a women since Tony and all the scenarios in which he’s uncomfortable with and avoiding being with women? And it’s not just that Joni is older and has weird fake boobs or that Kitty is repulsive to him. The woman at the conversion therapy place is very conventionally attractive and still, even though he genuinely tries to be all charming and flirt, he can’t get himself to commit and promptly walks away, very uncomfortable and disinterested(but that ‘t’ necklace she’s wearing does remind him of a certain someone he is attracted to). And it’s not like it’s a being dedicated to Tony so much that he can’t make comments about other people or find others attractive, either. He calls one of the closet guys cute, someone pointed out how he checks out Adhir at one point. The guy foxes thing, even. But again, when it comes to women, whenever he tries anything, he gets uncomfortable and/or leaves or tries to leave the situation. I mean, he can at times hardly even lie about sleeping with and being attracted to women. And it’s not just season five: when you look at all his relationships with women throughout the whole show, it’s night and day compared to how he acts with Tony. And Tony’s not the first partner he’s had that believes in him and is supportive of and nice to him. The difference is that he’s a man.

Another thing, I’ve seen the closet scene, the fact that they were gonna be going in and out of closets, viewed as, like, a metaphor for Gob being bi but the thing is, we literally see that Gob gets out of the gay closet and can’t get back into the straight closet no matter how much he tries, which echoes his arc in the show and is emblematic of what I’ve already mentioned throughout this. Ever since Gob developed feelings for Tony and they had sex and he had this realization, he’s been trying desperately to force himself to be straight or, hell, just like women at all, but it never works because he is gay.

*And frankly, I interpreted Buster saying that Gob might be bisexual as him just coming to the conclusion that Gob is bi based on what Gob told him. I have to believe that Buster knew to some extent that Gob liked guys. I mean, he saw him around Tony during the Sword of Destiny stuff. He saw how Gob talked to Tony and about Tony. Plus, Buster's the only one who ever truly payed attention to him, like, actually listened, so I'm sure he noticed other things too and Michael literally shouted, "I knew it!" so I feel like it's realistic to believe this wasn't exactly a well kept secret. And in season five, when Gob is talking to Buster about how he's gonna turn himself back to being straight because he's not to gay but, ya know, it's obvious to Buster that Gob is definitely not straight, in Buster’s mind, perhaps what's confusing his older brother, who seems to be identifying with both straight and gay, is that he likes both men and women. I mean, from Buster's perspective, that would make sense, especially given the lifetime of bragging about sleeping with women that Gob has done. But we have information and insight that he doesn’t and when you look at the show as a whole, the situation doesn’t read as Gob being confused because he likes both men and women and thinks he has to choose, it reads as Gob in a last ditch effort to convince himself he’s not gay and likes women.

I’m pretty sure at the time, there was a possibility of another season or a movie or something and I’m sure this would’ve been delved into more there. Because of the whole “the feeling was friendship” thing, a lot of people did not get that they were actually in love(including me, I’m very oblivious and gullible) and I think a lot of this season was spent making sure that was clear, that they did really love each other and not as just friends. They even in their ending scene together, say that they can’t be friends, which someone else(I can’t remember who but credit to whoever it was) pointed out that it seemed like a subtle way for the writers to show that they aren’t just friends, they’re doing gay stuff together cause they like dudes. But even without a following season or movie, I think we already have sufficient information spanning the entirety of the show that answers whether Gob is gay or bisexual and in my opinion, Gob is gay.

And of course, if you think he’s bi, hell yeah, that’s cool, you do you. This isn’t meant to stomp all over your hc. These are just my thoughts on this subject.

*Just thought I should add this since my interpretation of this specific scene has changed after @theflannelwizard pointed this out(this was a bit ago now but I hadn’t thought to add it until now). My conclusion is still the same, I just feel the need to amend this specific part:

Really, I don’t know how I didn’t, like, think about this until it was pointed out to me, it’s so obvious now that that was the joke.

Also just another addition, cause I somehow completely forgot about this when I wrote this, there were the, like, two weeks(? whatever the span of time was) where him and his dad went all across Mexico with the specific intention of getting with women and Gob couldn’t get himself to do anything with a single woman and was struggling to even feign interest.

And then another thing with Gob finding other dudes attractive, on top of the other stuff I mentioned, he also calls up the Hot Cops at one point to schedule them to come over. So again, it’s not like he’s so dedicated to Tony that it’s impossible for him to find others attractive and express that. With men, he’s comfortable doing that, but with women, he is not.

In your words, tell us what you like most about your MC. 

There are many things I love about Casey. First and foremost, she’s genuine.  What you see is what you get; she has no time for games or being fake.  She wears her heart on her sleeve, and even though that has burned her in the past, she refuses to allow it to change the person is.  She’s passionate about her beliefs and does not back down.  She is very serious when she needs to be - at work, when dealing with a crisis, or engaged in activism - but in her personal life, she’s playful, quirky, and not afraid to make an idiot out of herself (or others) to have some fun.  She really tries to live every day to its fullest, even when it’s difficult to do so.  

Do you feel your MC is like you at all? How are you alike or different?

In some ways, yes; in others, no. We’re both passionate about our beliefs and fight for them. We were both activists from a young age, and that's an important part of our lives. We try not to take life too seriously and to enjoy the journey more than the destination. And the people we love mean more to us than anything else. most. 

However, Casey has her shit together to a level I have never been able to achieve. lol She’s a doctor, and I barely passed my science classes. And her husband is FAR superior to any of my exes (if I had what she does, I'd make sure they never became exes). lol What can I say? Fictional men written by women are just better. 

What is most important to your MC? What is their motivation in life?

People matter the most to her. It was her motivation for going into medicine and what has driven her activism.  She can’t witness problems and gross inequity and not attempt to do something to solve them. She believes if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem. 

She almost lost her mother as a young child, and she almost lost her own life as a resident, and again in her 30s, so she values every day and lives with the understanding that we all have expiration dates.  There is no day but today - and she uses that to push herself. 

Her career is very important to her, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the people she loves.  She is fiercely loyal, and when she loves someone, she loves them for life.  Tobias and their girls are her world, and they have plenty of family - real and found - surrounding them.  

Casey wants to leave the world better than it was when she entered it.  She has worked tirelessly for equity for all. As a proud bisexual woman, she has fought for women's and LGBTQ rights. Growing up in a diverse community, in a city that has residents living in both extreme poverty and excessive wealth, she loathes inequality. As such, racial and social justice issues, as well as equal access to healthcare are important issues to her. She is appalled that people die in one of the wealthiest nations in the world simply because they don’t have insurance.  That becomes her biggest mission. 

What are their biggest pet peeves/dislikes? 

Pretentiousness. She’s not a fan of affluence, and she's automatically suspicious of people who have too much. That’s a struggle for her and Tobias initially because he is extremely wealthy. It took a lot of work, and some changes and compromises, for them to rectify that.

Intolerance. People who feel the need to control how others live their lives incense her. She has no use for people who espouse racist, misogynistic, and homophobic views.

Hypocrisy and phoniness.  She’s a genuine soul, and she expects the same in return.  She can usually sense when someone is inauthentic, and she will do her best to keep such people out of her inner circle.  

If your MC could change one thing - anything - what would it be? 

She would change the world.  She would rid it of many -isms. More than anything, she’d like to see a world where people are truly judged by the content of their character, not by their race, gender, sexual orientation, or socioeconomic standing.  She knows the world is an unfair place, and it’s distressing to know how it is almost impossible to change it, but it doesn’t mean she won’t try.  But, if she were given a magic wand, she knows exactly what she’d do with it. 

What is your MC’s favorite quote or song?

“Love is a combination of care, commitment, knowledge, responsibility, respect, and trust.” - Bell Hooks - This is her guiding principle.  Love is not a noun, it’s a verb, and when we love people or things, we need to give them our full commitment and dedication.  One cannot be lazy about love. To whom much is given, much will be required (Luke 12:48) Although she was raised in the Catholic faith, Casey really had no use for organized religion and considered herself agnostic by the time she met Tobias.  Three things made her begin to believe in something greater: her near death after the chemical attack, the love she shares with Tobias, and the birth of their first child, Samantha.  She NEVER becomes a bible thumper, nor does she believe there is one "true" religion. She considers herself more spiritual than religious, but this bible quote resonates with her.  Especially after she and Tobias were sure they would share a future together.  Given his level of wealth, she insisted this would be how they would live and raise their daughters. She has a zillion favorite songs, but the four songs that she and Tobias selected for their wedding will forever hold a special place in her heart.  They are All of Me by John Legend, Spend My Life With You by Eric Benet, Every Time I Close My Eyes by Babyface, and You Make Me Feel Brand New by The Stylistics.  Is there anything else you’d like to share about your MC: (It can be why you created them, how they’ve inspired you, or you could write a little blurb as if it is coming from your MC - an acceptance speech. :) ) 

Casey’s sunny demeanor leads most who don’t know her well to believe she has had a charmed life.  But that's not true. Casey made a decision to have a bright outlook - whenever possible - because of the struggles she faced.  Nearly losing her mother at a young age, seeing her family struggle under the mountain of medical debt, and coming to terms with her sexuality were all defining moments of her younger years…. And each one played a part in the anxiety that remains an issue for her throughout her life.  These struggles all left scars but also helped her become the woman she is today. 

Her unlikely romance with Tobias Carrick faced challenges at first, but once they realized that they both accepted that they had found “the one,” they were all in for life. They’re alike in many ways… outgoing, flirtatious, full of life, and, yeah, horny. Lol, But their differences complimented each other.  Tobias is so self-assured, and he helps Casey build her confidence.  Casey’s authenticity helps Tobias get in touch with his authentic self, and together, they live their very best lives.

As someone who is queer but doesn’t know what that truly means at any given day AND as someone who views Yang as a lesbian in my HCs, having a character who ends up in a queer relationship but who DOESNT have their identity ironed out down to the flag is also very nice. Blake is bisexual, she is attracted to men unambiguously, but she also likes women and fell in love with a women. She is no less bisexual because of this despite some people trying to ignore that part. Yang falling in love with a women but having no defined identity feels very in line with her character as well. Maybe she’s bi in a “I had a crush on a guy once and now I like Blake so that’s being bi right??” Maybe she’s demi and all her playful flirting (the literal one scene but also I don’t wanna be too harsh bc some ppl have had that experience) was all posturing not to Hide but bc. Hey I did that too when I was 12, Made up a fake boyfriend bc surely I should’ve had one by now.

In the JL movie they had the “wow. She’s really strong” line which we all loved. But also Yang figuring out who she is outside of people, her dad and Ruby and even Blake, while also being in love with Blake. Idk it resonates. The not knowing what label fits you but being in a relationship regardless. It would be more for Us than anything to have a clear stamp but in universe Yang probably never had the chance to explore one way or the other. And she just happened to fall in love with Blake who is a woman, rather than the Woman that is Blake.

So HC lesbian, demi lesbian or just straight up does not know.

I will say the lesbian flag colors look perfect on her tho and we all know the show is about colors SO maybe Blake was the eye opening factor that made her realize OH I like women specifically. Neat!

That's honestly really valid. Not everyone has their sexuality figured out at 19-20.

I dunno, part of me wanting her sexuality to be canon is pettiness and spite I suppose. Been a lot of years of denial from some less than admirable people.

But at the end of the day, Yang loves Blake and Blake loves Yang and that's good enough.

Please hear me out and don’t start bashing me or cussing me out.

I’ve a lot inner struggle and insecurity when it comes to bisexuality, no one will ever accepts it and I sure as hell don’t accept it as of now. And everytime I come close to it, something reminds me not to.

There’s this bi guy (didn’t know he was bi or content creator) that I really liked since 2017… and then he nicely rejected me. Then years later I find he’s adult content creator and all his content is gay on onlyfans. I’ve stalked his every social media account and I’m just so bitter and hurt because I feel so inadequate and worthless because I’m sure he rejected me solely for being a woman. Yet he’s always faking this “Mr. Nice” persona on twitter and advocating for women issues and shit. He’s so popular w the women, yet all his likes and tweets are about men and how he’s trying to get over his baby mama. I hate him so much. Never has someone hurt my pride like that.

So now I just have this bitter dark feeling in my chest that makes me HATE him and every other bi and gay men alive. And it’s the reason why whenever I try to make peace w my bisexuality, I’m reminded that I can’t because I harbor such resent for other bi people. I don’t resent bi women, in fact I love them. But when it comes to bisexual men, I think they’re all liars and cheaters and in fact fake gay because NONE of them ever shows ANY interest in women.

Even had this bi guy approach me recently and I was so rude to him and took out all my anger on him then blocked him.

I know I’m beyond fucked up and probably need help. Been going to therapy for years and it has helped in many areas of my life but this is just one unsolvable problem I’ve that I can’t overcome. And I don’t want to waste my life living in such hateful way but atp my hate for him specially is bigger than anything I’ve ever experienced.

And as a bi person, I’m sorry you got to read this but I’m genuinely so sad and hurt but idk what to do anymore.

Every other ask I get like this talking about how bi men are all evil gay sluts references bi guys talking about how much they like men on twitter. Maybe you fucking people need to get off of twitter, I think you'd all be a lot happier.

You have serious issues with homophobia and biphobia that you need to work out, and I'm glad you seem kind of self aware about that, but like, go back to therapy. Talk about that guy with a licensed therapist who can help you work through your emotions in healthy ways and overcome your prejudices. I'm sorry you're struggling, but hating ssa men is not the answer just because of one guy you knew.

Stop stalking a guy you hate on social media, it's just going to make you more miserable and resentful. Stop interacting with content on social media that makes you upset. Literally deactivate your twitter account and focus on getting real life actual help & coming to terms with yourself. Hating yourself for your sexuality and hating ssa men is not healthy. Talk to bisexual women about your feelings if you know any who would be comfortable helping you and who you trust.
