Got a scenario for ya!

You, the beautiful Mel, are tapped by the producers of The Bachelorette. They want to do a season full of drama, top notch romance and torrid sexual tension, and want to give the ladies at home the chance to gawk at handsome, horny lads of athletic prowess. They acquiesce to the idea to make your 25 bachelors ALL NHL hockey players. Included are Nolan, Joel F, Mat B, Matt T, Nate Mac, Carter H, Brock B, and hell even Toews makes an appearance! The producers catch you embracing Barzy in the garden and giving into his kiss on the first night. It gets back to other 25 men in the house causing a seismic wave. Your season goes down as the hottest in franchise history. You've managed to break hearts and sticks, start rivalries and infighting (as well as incessant chirping), and after careful deliberation (and MANY kisses and tears, thank God for liquid lipstick and waterproof mascara!) you eventually reach your final 4 bachelors!!!

ten faves

Rules: name ten favorite characters from ten different things (tv, movies, books, etc.)

This came from @thegirlwholied nearly...3 weeks...ago now, but I am slow, and indecisive, and time basically has no meaning at the moment anyway, so.

1. Sally Lockhart (the Sally Lockhart quartet)

First name I wrote down. I met Sally in my early teens and I’ve never quite given up on wanting to grow up to be her. I love each and every member of Garland and Lockhart a ridiculous amount (and my love of the found family trope can probably be traced back to their door), but Sally, with her grit and her stubbornness and her fierce indepenance, captured me in something special from that moment in the first paragraph of the first book when all I knew was her name and that she was about to kill a man.

2. Elizabeth Bennet (Pride and Prejudice)

I considered shying away from the stereotypical here, but that would just be lying to myself as well as anyone else. I relate more to Jane, or Charlotte Lucas, or even Mr Darcy – at least in terms of social awkwardness, not finances, sadly – but, like him, I can’t remember the first time I fell in love with Lizzy Bennet, I was in the middle of it before I even knew I had begun.

(Jennifer Ehle probably had something to do with it though.)

3. Hermione Granger (Harry Potter)

Look, I was an introverted, bookish, rule-abiding adolescent, and Hermione was suddenly someone I could recognise myself in. I wanted to be Ginny (and Sally, and Lizzy, and several others on this list); I already was Hermione, in a lot of ways, and she made that a bit more ok.

4. Carrot Ironfoundersson (Discworld)

I wanted to put a Discworld character in here, and I’m a little bit sad at myself for not picking a woman – especially since this is inadvertently turning out to be a very female-heavy list. I even started the process of trying to choose between Sybil Ramkin, Tiffany Aching, Adora Belle Dearheart, and Angua, to name but a few.

But the thing is, I made the fatel error of first trying to read the Discworld in publication order, and it took me years to venture any further than the first 50 pages of Colour of Magic. Even in later books the Wizards just. Aren’t my thing.

And then, at some point – and I’m a bit hazy on the when, to be honest – I picked up Guards Guards and spent the entire book blinking at Carrot, reading and re-reading; I kept wanting to turn to someone else and nudge and point, because is this guy for real?! And then, again, a page later, for completely different reasons and in completely different tones, is this guy for real AGAIN?! Terry Pratchett’s books are richly populated with wonderfully rounded, flawed, individual characters, and at first glance Carrot is comparatively straightforward. I hope I never lose that quiet moment of glee I feel at realising that, of course, he really, really isn’t.

5. Titty Walker (Swallows and Amazons)

Consider Titty a bit of a catch-all for the tomboy girls who filled my childhood reading – George Kirrin, Maia Fielding, Kit Russell and the rest – but she’s the one I thought of first. I was not an adventurous child - I am not an adventurous adult, for that matter – but these were the books that meant I could be. I think Titty’s adventures always felt the most tangible, somehow, and the image of her tacking up the field home to read her father’s telegram cemented something in me at an impressionable age that I don’t think I’ve ever quite shaken off.

6. Leslie Knope (Parks and Recreation)

Again, I love each and every character on this show, but Leslie Knope; annoying, overbearing, forthright Leslie Knope, who cares so damn much about everything that she makes everyone else care more too, who never once considers being anyone other than who she is, who makes mistakes and faces up to fixing them, who will always, always use a favour to help other people…Leslie Knope, folks. I love her and I like her.

7. Rose Tyler (Doctor Who)

It’s a pretty close call between Rose and Donna Noble, to be honest, but Rose got there first. Unapologetically, unashamedly working class Rose, from the council estate, with no A-levels and no prospects and no expectations that anyone will ever give a damn about her, who saves the world in so many different ways, who grows up and laughs and loves and changes but never in the fundamentals of who she is – brilliant, compassionate, brave. Her life is fantastic because she marches through it punching literal holes in the universe to make it so.

8. Lyra Silvertongue (His Dark Materials)

Lyra, who loved her world of Oxford rooftops, and ran from it. Lyra who loved Roger, and killed him. Lyra who loved Pan, and left him. Lyra who loved Will, and lost him. Lyra who lies. Lyra who left home and came back different, and that was only just the start of her growing up. I’ve been reading Lyra for 20 years and I read her a little bit different every time, but I never love her any less.

9. Phil Coulson (Marvel Cinematic Universe)

I’m probably stretching things a bit here, because when I say I love Phil Coulson, I’m referring to Phil Coulson of the MCU up to and including 2012, and the subsequent fanon interpretations of him. I tried Agents of Shield early on and it didn’t stick. But I saw Avengers Assemble in the cinema with no prior Marvel knowledge (comic or film) and spent the next three days watching the rest of Phase One (hilariously, at the time, five films felt like a lot). I was in my very early days on Tumblr when #Coulsonlives was a thing, and I still remember the absolute explosion of joy that was. Every now and again (like right now, actually) I go through a phase of re-reading an unhealthy volume of Clint/Coulson fic – and I do love Clint, and I love Gamora, I love Sam Wilson and Natasha Romanoff and Pepper Potts - and it’s dry, snarky, utterly unflappable who Coulson hooks me every time.

10. Georgiana Lestrade (The Least of All Possible Mistakes)

Look, I have a lot of feelings about every person on this list and quite a few who aren’t, but if I had to pick the one who felt the most…real, I suppose…then Georgiana Lestrade is my easy answer. She’s the person I would always want fighting my corner. George has no false ideals, no delusions about either herself or her world; she is completely grounded in herself and her London – which is almost a character in its own right, one of my very favourite things about Pru’s writing.

Competent, practical, fiercely unphased George, who carries a taser and throws stationary at her underlings; who is gloriously, unashamedly pragmatic; nearing forty and glad of it; as honest and self-aware of her own nature as I think a person can be; and above all else who is damn good at her job. She might give one hoot about what other people think of her, but she’s certainly not going to waste a second. That she is surrounded by wild, dangerously intelligent men is almost incidental, but she is, and that is a part of her story – though far from the whole of it - and she takes no more shit from them, never doubts her own right or ability to stand beside them, than she does any other person.

One of the saddest truths of my fandom life is that Pru will never finish the Regency spy AU of this AU, and I mourn this far more often than is healthy XD

This was fun and hard in equal measure, and there are so many more I could have listed - Jack Robinson, Violet Baudelaire, Brienne of Tarth, Leia Organa, Theo Hart, to name but a few - but I’m as happy with it as I’ll ever be.

this is gonna be so long so i’m gonna put it below the cut but also keep in mind i do not know a lot about narvin because i’ve only listened to 5 episodes of gallifrey kshjdf

What I like about them- i love that she’s lower class i’m not going to beat around the bush. as someone who worked 2-3 minimum wage jobs all through high school to help my family the story of her being in that same situation working a shitty retail job living w her mom REALLY resonated and then her still being able to go on all those amazing adventures and never losing any of herself??? i love that so much

What I dislike about them- she treated mickey like shit and i hate that

Favourite moment- in the impossible planet when 10 is about to go down the elevator and they have literally the most tender interaction known to man and she has that “it’s hard” about the future of space travel which is so good because sci fi almost never acknowledges that it would all be literally so difficult.. and then the forehead kiss on the helmet and “not if i see you first” its just !!!! aaaaa

Least favourite moment- i really didn’t like when she was getting jealous of sarah jane before they made friends :( as someone who loves sarah jane that made me sad

A situation with this character that I want to see explored more- everything that’s going on in pete’s world!! her brother, her mom being w a parallel universe version of her dad, etc. she’s living in a whole parallel universe!! they could have had her comment on the differences/how it’s like w a different family dynamic etc

An interesting AU for this character- werewolf au.. just saying... we talk about this in the discord sometimes but au where she got bit during tooth and claw and it wasn’t like really bad or a big deal or anything she’s just werewolf

OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)- her and 9 :’)

Other ships?- HER AND MARTHA HER AND MARTHA HER AND MARTHA

BROTP- her and mickey !! they’re best friends end of discussion and i wish they had been written better. also her and sj... once they make up

NOTP- her and tentoo :/ like im sorry but the way 10 just dropped him off with her and expected that to be okay and to replace him for her and the fact that they all conveniently forgot that tentoo is half donna?? like he’s not ten and to expect him to be like ten for her is uhm. i do not like it

A headcanon- that she’s sorta like a mom to tony and she takes him around and does little adventures with him and reads to him and all that :’)

What I like about them- i love that he’s a little bit rude !! i love that in a person. i love that he’s in a bad mood often. i also love that he is always .2 seconds away from a panic attack because i think he’s very relatable

What I dislike about them- mean to leela :( but apparently that changes later on...

Favourite moment- i really liked the andred reveal not gonna lie and his reaction to that was uhm. SORTA great and sorta great voice acting as well as in terms of story/character. like that was. much to think about. and then he got SHOT which. i do like whump

Least favourite moment- whenever he calls leela mean names. :( also he’s sorta a cop

A situation with this character that I want to see explored more- again i really don’t know a lot about him yet and i’m sure in like a year when i’ve listened to all of gallifrey i’ll have a WAY better answer to this question but as of now i think since the guy andred was pretending to be was like his only friend and then he found out that he was actually lying to him the whole time to get to see more of his reaction to that would have been good

An interesting AU for this character- ROLESWAP AU W HIM AND LEELA ROLESWAP AU W HIM AND LEELA ... HE’S the doctor’s companion(still a gallifreyan, just left home for a little while to travel and then came back) who’s trying to readjust to life on gallifrey AND trying to protect romana but the new cia coordinator(started out as an ambassador from another planet but now they let her stay??? and they’re just?? letting her into the government as a high ranking official even though she’s an alien??? outrageous) won’t get off his ass

OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)- i truly do not know enough about him yet to really really answer this but i do think he’s sorta in love with romana AND leela AND brax a little bit

BROTP- i mean it WAS him and the guy andred was pretending to be.. before :(

NOTP- i really don’t know enough yet !! i dont :(

A headcanon- i just like the concept that even though he and brax don’t trust each other politically they DO get together sometimes to just be bastards about things and complain

What I like about them- she literally just has such fuck off energy. she is blunt. she doesn’t know what the hell is going on. she has prophetic visions. she can and WILL go feral at any time. she’s literally the most off the shits possible character and i LOVE her.

What I dislike about them- in the show at least they didn’t do a lot with her development and after a while her character felt sorta flat :(

Favourite moment- im blanking on tv moments but i really like in zagreus where she’s just there being in love with romana, going apeshit trying to attack people, and eating dreamscape food and i LOVE that for her

Least favourite moment- when she left the doctor to be with andred. bleuugh.

A situation with this character that I want to see explored more- definitely more about her family/planet/childhood!! i want to learn about the culture.. about what influenced her character.. parts of her tradition she kept and parts she left behind..

An interesting AU for this character- i do sorta have this one where its human au in the 80s and romana is running for office and she and leela are in love and have to like sorta sneak around and navigate the press and also leela is a trucker

OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship)- her and romana of course...

Other ships?- i mean. all four of them do sort of be in love in gallifrey dont they...

BROTP- her and 4 were pretty good... her and her k9 skjdhf

A headcanon- i just. h. in the above mentioned au she takes romana on overnight rides sometimes and they just drive for like 100 miles w the radio on really soft being in love..

skyrim (i’ve been playing a lot of skyrim and not only do i have opinions bu i think it’ll be funny trying to fill out this meme with that)

First character you loved:

doctor who: i definitely can’t remember for sure bc i started watching in 2012, but it was likely Rose. she’s incredible, resourceful, determined, and in this house we love and support Rose Tyler and her character arc

good omens: tricky. i also can’t remember for sure bc i’ve watched some of my favourites aren’t introduced until later episodes but probably Aziraphale. who wouldn’t love him

skyrim: i forget her name but the blacksmith in Whiterun. i think Adrianne? for a less involved version of “love” than the other two anyway, bc Skyrim isn’t like. very good at making the friendships you build feel that real

The character you relate to the most:

doctor who: Graham is a potent mood. i too would bring along so, so much food on TARDIS errands and go “ow oof ouch my knees” after yet another bout of running

good omens: Aziraphale. if i had the means to keep a bookshop that’s actually a library and only eat restaurant food all the time and read a lot of books and hang out with my best friend, you better believe i would do it

skyrim: that priest of Talos near the fountain in Whiterun joke aside um. my character is an Argonian i named “Lizard” (oops) because i didn’t know shit about the lore and didn’t wanna waste play time on coming up with a name, but anyway he’s super cool and badass and very, very good at sneaking and two-handed

The character you’d slap:

doctor who: simm!master has it coming. i love him as a character but he’s such a slappable person tbqfh

good omens: gabriel get FUCKED challenge

skyrim: Mehrunes Dagon bc he’s the most asshole Daedra i’ve encountered so far. is it risky to slap a Daedra, yes probably but also that’s what i want to be doing

Three favorite characters:

doctor who: i’m gonna do three favourite incarnations of the Doctor AND three favourite other characters cause there’s so many. soooo my favourite Doctors are, well first of all 13!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 13 13 13. what a ray of sunshine i love her SO MUCH TwT also 10, like he cannot compete with 13 in my heart (believe me i wasn’t expecting that) but he’s still v special to me bc like, My First Doctor TM. and 12′s grown on me in his later episodes (enough so that i was actually sad to see him go even though, having watched ahead, i was HYPE for 13) but i love 9 more overall so, 9!! and my favourite non-Doctor characters, Donna’s definitely first place, and Bill Potts, and Jack Harkness. it’s so hard to pick just three bc i EXTRA LOVE like literally all the companions except maybe Amy (who wasn’t treated right by the narrative i will admit) and Clara (whom i just can’t really relate to and also wasn’t treated right by the narrative), and also love a vast number of secondary characters (like Astos from the Tsuranga Conundrum episode deserved better and that’s that on that)

good omens: Aziraphale, Brian, and Pepper (i also love Crowley but i’m an Aziraphale person)

skyrim: MJOLL THE LIONESS, that one ghost (Katja? Katrija? i forget but it starts with a K) that comes with you in tons of Dwemer ruins for the Aetherium Forge quest, and my own player character

A character you liked at first, but don’t anymore:

doctor who: probably 11? although that’s more of a Moffat-didn’t-do-right-by-DW problem as far as i’m concerned, like at first i liked the “excited puppy” thing and his whole like. Exuberant Personality, but after a while like... i can’t like a character who regularly assaults people and just behaves like he does generally. Matt Smith is an Excellent Actor and worked with what he was given but yeah i really don’t miss 11 at all

good omens: i don’t think anyone fits that description tbh ahgsdqdf

skyrim: oh there’s a bunch of traitors in there but i forget all their names. there’s that one character that ambushes you on the road to Riften by pretending he’s got a problem of some sort and then he leads you to his Bandit Camp. and i haven’t forgiven him for tricking me when i just wanted to help. fucked him and his cronies up big time and threw all their bodies out into the mountains after i stole everything from their camp as retribution

OTPs:

doctor who: me/13, obviously. joke aside, Rose paired with 9, 10 and 13; that one not-rich couple who was in the Voyage of the Damned episode; 12/Missy is a good one, as is 12/River, and merging these to get 12/Missy/River is also good; and Clara/Jane Austen purely because it’s referenced several times and im really miffed they didn’t do anything with it

skyrim: is not really a game where i have ships ahsdgfjkqd

~Honesty Hour~

I was asked by @lovelynhiddenkittens to do all 150 questions in the Honesty Hour tag! 😮 Thank you, lovely and curious stranger~! 😆 But since that’s a lot for one post, I’ll break it up into chunks of 50 questions so it’s easier for all my blogging buddies to digest. 😊 Starting... now! 😝

1. Who was the last person you held hands with? That would have to be Alex. He was warming my hand for me because it was ice cold. Though he doesn’t know that’s because I intentionally held my super cold drink for a really long time with that hand, then casually mentioned how cold my hand was so he’d try to warm it... >//> Introverts are sneaky flirts, what can I say? 😆😏

2. Are you outgoing or shy? Shy, definitely. Though there are alters in the system much more outgoing than me.

3. Who are you looking forward to seeing? Tyler! 😄 I’ve been staying over at her apartment every weekend this past summer, and always enjoy our movie and gaming marathons. 😝

4. Are you easy to get along with? I think so. I’m not very easily angered, a pacifist at heart, and a people-pleaser at my core. 😂 So it’s pretty hard not to get along with me.

5. If you were drunk would the person you like take care of you?

I don’t know, Alex is a sweetheart so he’d probably help, and Tyler cares but she doesn’t do bodily fluids. 😆 So, it depends. And considering I’ve never been drunk, and seem to have too high a tolerance to get drunk without having to rob a bank to fund the sheer volume of alcohol needed, I doubt this problem will ever arise. 👌

6. What kind of people are you attracted to?

Kind and funny people. 😊

7. Do you think you’ll be in a relationship two months from now?

I have no idea, but I won’t rule it out. Alex has kinda been cute and flirty towards me lately, so maaaybe~? >//>

8. Who from the opposite gender is on your mind?

Uh, well, the subject of the last question was Alex, so, him. 😆

9. Does talking about sex make you uncomfortable?

A wee bit, yes. 😅 I put up a good facade though, but being asexual, sex is kinda... bleeehhh~ for me. e~e

That would have to be Tyler. :3 She’s my bestie from my ASL classes~ 💜 We have a looot in common, so we talk for hours at a time, in between movie and game marathons that is. 😆

11. What does the most recent text that you sent say?

Context: I was spamming Tyler gifs of adorable animals earlier today.

The Text: “Aaand now I gotta get ready for therapy, so this shall be the crowning gif of adorable goodness!”

Followed by a gif of two golden retrievers fighting over a tennis ball, with a third retriever (being shoved into the frame by a fourth, offscreen, retriever) resting his head on the two dogs feuding over the aforementioned tennis ball. 💖

Yes. No. Kinda? It depends... If I’ve just had a shower and my hair is clean, I love it. ^w^ But if it’s been a bit and my hair isn’t all that clean I just feel embarrassed if people touch my hair. e~e

14. Do you believe in luck and miracles?

Ehhh... Depends which alter you ask really. Me, personally? Not so much. My family has always told me our family line is cursed to have bad luck, so if I believed in such things, I guess I’m doomed. 😂

15. What good thing happened this summer?

I’ve started working on myself and my social life, strengthening friendships irl and online, or, at least attempting to. 😅 Sometimes I’m just bad at not isolating. But this past summer I’ve been spending basically every weekend at my friend Tyler’s apartment and hanging out with her core group of friends. It’s been a nice break from the chaos of the school semester. 😊

16. Would you kiss the last person you kissed again?

Well, considering she’s on the other side of the country back in my home state, probably not. She was a lovely first kiss, but I’ll leave it at that. 🤭

17. Do you think there is life on other planets?

With how many planets there are in the galaxy; the universe? Not to mention how many planets within The Goldilocks Zone that share a similar atmosphere to earth within the observable universe alone... How could I not think other life exists? At the very least, in some kind of bacterial form, though, I dare to dream a little bigger. ✨

18. Do you still talk to your first crush?

Well, I’ve never really had a crush, per se, though plenty of squishes. :3 But my first squish did not turn out well, so, no. :c

19. Do you like bubble baths?

Yes, especially if I go all out and light candles and play music on my phone. 🕯️🎶😌 However, I don’t do that very often. I take showers mostly.

20. Do you like your neighbors?

Yeah, they’re chill people. The neighbors with the overly-territorial pitbull that kept us prisoner in our car for hours and broke into our fenced-in backyard to take massive doggie dumps out of sheer hatred for us moved away because their dog kept terrorizing the neighbourhood and was going to get put down if it didn’t stop breaking out to chase children on trikes and joggers onto rooftops. So, the neighbors we have now are awesome! 😆

21. What are your bad habits?

Sometimes I’m too honest and don’t know when to stop talking, other times I’m so socially anxious I might as well be a feature of the wall at parties. 😂 I also have trichotillomania, a compulsive disorder related to OCD, in which I get really strong urges to pull out my hair sometimes, so definitely a bad habit... Just talking about it kinda... ehhhh... moving on. e~e

22. Where would you like to travel?

A lot of places. Though Scotland is at the top of my list. Scotland is a huge part of my family’s heritage, and some of my family still lives there. So I would love to visit and spend some time in nature there~ 💕

23. Do you have trust issues?

Yes.

24. Favorite part of your daily routine?

Well, anytime I get to de-stress is nice. I know wiping down my face with a face wipe always feels nice and refreshing after a day out running errands and attending classes. It’s the little things that are the most help~ 😊

25. What part of your body are you most uncomfortable with?

All of it. If I could edit my body, that would be nice.

26. What do you do when you wake up?

Hit snooze on the alarm a couple times, get up, walk to the bathroom... you can imagine the rest.

27. Do you wish your skin was lighter or darker?

Nope, I’m quite happy with my vampire pale skin, and even my dirty blonde, curly lion’s mane of hair, and my blue eyes ain’t so bad either. I’m not completely hideous, just 97% hideous. 👌😂

28. Who are you most comfortable around?

29. Have any of your ex’s told you they regret breaking up?

No, because I usually cut them out of my life after they break my heart. Some have tried to stay friends with me or become friends with me again years later, but... no. I don’t need backstabbers in my life.

30. Do you ever want to get married?

Maybe, someday. When the time is right, I’ll know, until then, I’ll enjoy my singledom~ :3

31. Is your hair long enough for a ponytail?

Yes, it’s in a ponytail right now actually. 😆

NONE.

Mi-Suk used to play on tennis and basketball teams, but our spine is a little too deteriorated nowadays to attempt such things.

35. Would you rather live without TV or music?

Without TV, hands down. I’d die without music. I bleed music.

36. Have you ever liked someone and never told them?

Yep. I had a bit of a squish on this kid named Travis in elementary school and never told him. My frenemy told him I had a crush on him, and he never talked to me after that. 😭

37. What do you say during awkward silences?

I either make a joke or just enjoy the silence. Depends what mood I’m in. Sometimes I’m more introverted and just want to sit in silence or listen to music instead of talk. Other times I just wanna connect with people and I tend to crack a lot of darker, self-deprecating jokes as a way to break the ice, or tension if I feel some.

38. Describe your dream girl/guy?

I want someone who is genuinely kind, patient, and funny. It also helps if they are neurodivergent like me, and have similar enough interests, sense of humor, etc. to my own. c: Overall, I just want to feel comfortable and safe with someone. 😊

39. What are your favorite stores to shop in?

I buy food at Fry’s... so... Fry’s?

40. What do you want to do after high school?

I’m already out of high school, bub. Now I’m in college, and I still have no idea. I have dream jobs, dream homes, dream lives. But none of them seem realistic.

41. Do you believe everyone deserves a second chance?

Depends on the crime, really. If I hired someone to babysit my hypothetical children, and they forgot to tell the children to clean up their toys, I believe a second chance is in order. If they, however, ditched the job to mack on Paul Puffy Lips next door, leaving my children to starve, I don’t believe I’ll be giving them another call.

42. If you’re being extremely quiet what does it mean?

It means I’m probably really socially anxious at the moment and would prefer to not be made the center of attention. o~o’

43. Do you smile at strangers?

Yes, sometimes to spread cheer and joy, other times because I’m worried they’ll think I’m an up-to-no-good deviant or zombified by depression, which is how I feel at least 80% of the time, and worry everyone notices, even strangers, who probably would not assume such things, but that’s social anxiety for you. 😂

44. A trip to outer space or the bottom of the ocean?

Why not both? However, humans are so preoccupied with space that we’ve only explored 5% of our oceans. I don’t want the oceans to feel lonely, so I’ll visit them first. 💙

45. What makes you get out of bed in the morning?

Sometimes the looming responsibilities in my life, other times I just don’t get out of bed.

46. What are you paranoid about?

A lot of things, but the most pressing concern of mine is that everyone will inevitably leave me because I’m a terrible, horrible human being who doesn’t deserve friendship. 😅

47. Have you ever been high?

Every day, if I can help it. I have a medical marijuana card and have for a couple years now.

48. Have you ever been drunk?

No.

49. Have you done anything recently that you hope nobody finds out about?

No, not really. Nothing is coming to mind.

50. What was the color of the last hoodie you wore?

Well, I’m wearing a hoodie now, and it’s gray, with the Nirvana emblem on the front. 😝 It’s my favorite and coziest hoodie of all.

The Boots and Hearts 2019 schedule and set times are here, and it’s time to start making hard decisions.

Multi-stage festivals always make it difficult to catch everyone that you see on the lineup. There are overlaps and lots of walking, and at some point you should remember to eat and go to the bathroom and maybe find some shade. Mr. Smith had watched her leave from right outside his office, hands in his pockets and a small smile on his face.

“What are you thinking about?” Keisha asked, breaking through Rose’s thoughts.

Rose blinked and focused in on her friend. “I don’t know,” she said, “Just a long day at work, I guess.”

“Well, cheers to you being done soon,” Shireen laughed, lifting her glass of rum.

Rose laughed, cheersing her and Keisha with her own glass of wine. “Yeah. I’m finishing training the new secretary and tie up a few loose ends and then I’m out of there.” She almost got lost in thought again but shook herself.

“Whoa, what was that?”

“Yeah, I just- I’m trying to think of events for the library opening, I know Mr. Smith is worried about it and we’ve got a lot to think about.” She smiled sheepishly. “I guess even when he lets me off the hook early I’m not entirely off the hook.”

Shireen winced. “Look, babe, you gotta stop thinking about working for him all the time. It's not that big of a deal! The library opening is his problem, not yours. You’re leaving!”

Rose scratched her neck, her eyes darting around the restaurant. “Yeah, see, I know that, but-”

“You don’t like him, do you?”

“Well, sure I like him, he’s my boss.”

“No, she means, do you like him?” Keisha giggled. “You’ve been preoccupied with him since we got here!”

Rose felt a hot blush color her cheeks and she shook her head. “No! No, of course not. That would be ridiculous! He’s my boss, after all. Even though I’m quitting, it would still be incredibly inappropriate.”

“Me thinks the lady doth protest,” Keisha muttered. “He is fit, but remember, Rose, he’s also been an absolute ass.”

Rose chewed on her bottom lip, watching her friends carefully. “Nah. No, it’s not like that. It’s really not.”

In the back of her mind, though, she was starting to wonder. Mr. Smith was being incredibly kind to her, though it couldn’t just be because she was leaving. Of course, that could certainly be a part of it, but just the fact that he had changed so recently made him think that he might actually just need to have her around. Not necessarily as a business venture, but just as a person. As a friend.

She shook her head. “Let’s not talk about my boss anymore, yeah? I just now got away from him.”

John was staring at himself in the shot glass, ignoring Jack next to him. What a day it had been. Being in the blackout at the library, he’d expected more panic out of Miss Tyler. Instead, she’d been incredibly level headed and was a bit smarter than him, really. It had surprised and intrigued him quite a bit.

“So, heard there was a little issue at the library today,” Jack said, tossing a shot back. “How are you feeling? Stressed out, eh?”

He shook his head. “Not really. Miss Tyler was quite level headed, I hardly had any stress at all, actually.”

He remembered how Miss Tyler had claimed she knew the way, taking his hand and leading him out. She’d exuded calm, and an odd sort of attraction had run through him when he’d caught the scent of her shampoo. He smiled a little. “It was sort of fun.”

“Fun? You, having fun?” Jack laughed, “I don’t believe it.”

“Well, you should! I did, it was a nice time and I feel quite good about the opening of the library. It should go off without a hitch at this rate.”

Jack watched him carefully. “You never would’ve thought it was a nice time if Rose wasn’t with you and you know it.”

“I never suggested otherwise,” John said, furrowing his brow. “I enjoy Miss Tyler’s company, we’ve discussed this.”

“But you haven’t told her your true feelings, have you? You haven’t asked her out on a proper date.”

“Of course not.”

“Ugh,” Jack hung his head. “You like her. You said you think she likes you. I don’t know what the problem is.”

John was finished talking about it. There was nothing to do for it, really. Miss Tyler was simply out of the question, and that was that.

Jack knew, deep down, that he would be too prideful to actually ask her out. No matter how badly he wanted to be with her. In a way, Jack felt bad for his friends. John would never actually be brave enough. And he might miss out on something amazing because of it.

“Why are you looking at me like I just kicked your dog?” John snapped suddenly.

Jack shook himself, realizing his forlorn look had actually been boring into his friend. “Sorry, no reason,” he said, shaking his head. “Just thinking about what it might be like to miss out.”

John furrowed his brows. “You are a very strange man, Jack.”

“Yeah? So are you, pal.”

Strangely enough, John did feel a sort of magnetism to Miss Tyler the next day at work. He kept finding himself wanting to call her into the office just to see what she was doing, or to chat with her, or ask her how her night off was. Had she enjoyed herself? Had she gone on another date with that man? He didn’t even want to think about that.

After about the eighth time he almost called into his office, she buzzed in to him. He answered immediately. “Yes, Miss Tyler?”

“Good morning, Mr. Smith. I have finalized the schedule for the library opening but I’d like to run it past you, if that’s alright.”

“Come in.”

She buzzed off and a moment later was opening the door. She smiled a little and closed the heavy door behind her, approaching his desk with a manilla envelope in hand. “Here it is.” She flipped the cover off of the envelope and read out, “So, in the morning, it would be general mingling of the patrons, and those who have given support to the build as well. Over the course of the day there will be numerous presentations of how the new technology works, as well as tours of the facility. Mr. Saxon will end the night with a reading from his new, unreleased book.” She closed the envelope and beamed at him. “What do you think?”

He nodded. “Good idea,” he said, “Did you… Speak to my brother about this?”

“Yes, I contacted him about the timing as well as the idea to read from an unreleased book. It adds intrigue, after all.”

“I don’t want you contacting him after this,” Mr. Smith said firmly.

Rose frowned. “Does the schedule work, then?”

“Yes, it does.” He wasn’t sure why he was so upset by this, but the idea of Rose speaking privately to his brother was very upsetting.

Rose was about to storm out of the office, but stopped when she noticed that Mr. Smith’s tie was aggressively crooked. “Your tie…” She came around the side of the desk and turned his chair a little. Mr. Smith looked up at her, startled, as she set down her envelope and reached for his tie, straightening it out. He stared at her, his eyes wide, as though she hadn’t done this a thousand times before. She secured the knot under his adam’s apple and smiled at him, but it faded when she saw his shocked expression. The two of them stared at each other for a long moment, two puzzle pieces clicking into place. Rose cleared her throat suddenly and was surprised when Mr. Smith jumped at the noise.

“Excuse me, Mr. Smith, I’ll be sending the schedule out now,” She said, taking a step back from him. She’d been further in his personal space than she’d original thought, and it was making her hands sweat. She had to get out of there. She dipped her head politely and tried very hard not to trip over her own feet on the way out.

“Ah… yes.” He watched her leave the room, and settled his hand over his chest when the door closed behind her. “Why is my heart beating so fast?” He murmured, “Perhaps I should see a doctor.”

When Rose left the office, she saw John’s mother standing at her desk. “Oh!” Rose hurried to the other side of the desk. “I’m so sorry to keep you waiting, Mrs. Smith.”

“Oh, don’t worry, dear. I just wanted to stop by and ask John to come over for dinner tonight.”

Rose flipped open her planner. “Well, he’s free tonight, and I can see to it that there are no appointments made, if that would suit you?”

“That would be perfect, dear. Would you come along as well?”

Rose blinked. “W-why? With all due respect, Mrs. Smith, I don’t think I quite belong at a family dinner.”

“You’re the only person my son trusts, Miss Tyler. I would really like to have you there. And, well, my other son will be there as well, and there’s a bit of friction between the two of them.” Rose winced. “I did notice they didn’t get along exceptionally well,” she said, “So if you’d like, I can come. You may want to ask Mr. Smith to confirm, though, he usually likes to know exactly what’s going on all the time. It’s one of his charms.”

Mrs. Smith laughed. “Oh, yes.”

Rose buzzed in on her intercom. “Mr. Smith, your mother is here to see you.”

“Thank you, Miss Tyler. Send her in.”

Mrs. Smith offered Rose a smile before disappearing in to see her son. Rose heard Mr. Smith groan in agony when Mrs. Smith told him that his brother would be attending the dinner, but she didn’t hear him refuse. She supposed even big, powerful CEOs of companies had to listen to their mothers sometimes. She stifled a laugh at the thought.

A few minutes later, Mrs. Smith exited the office and offered Rose a smile. “Well, we’ll be seeing you tonight then, Miss Tyler! You might have to cheer John up on the way over, though.”

Rose kept herself from wincing. “Yes, Mrs. Smith. I’ll make sure we’re not late. I wouldn’t want to keep you waiting.”

She watched the older woman leave the building and sighed heavily, putting her head in her hands. Dinner with her boss’s family, mere weeks before she was leaving the company? Just how stupid was she?

Nikolina was born in Houston, Texas, the daughter of a bulgarian lawyer and a japanese farmer. She lived in Japan until the age of seven, until she moved with her mother and younger sister to the United States, following her parent’s divorce. From the early age of five, she wanted to become a singer, and took various musical classes throughout her early years. After being cast in a Broadway rendition of Lés Miserables in 2013 and winning a Tony Award for her performance, she was discovered by a representative of Columbia Records and signed to the label shortly after.
