I can't believe playtesting took me three whole days lmfao I'm crying
A SUN ASUNDER: POST APOCALYPSE UPDATE!! [65k]
Special note: this update is on dashingdon only for now, since cogdemos.ink is giving me problems again [I'll try to have that figured out soon]
**extra note: if you find any bugs/stuff that doesn't make sense lmk please...even w all the strenuous playtesting im sure I missed a lot [due to the branching]
This update introduces ~30k words of new content, here's a rundown of what you can do:
- explore the cabin [or the watch tower] first
- meet Ranger and learn more about them [or rob them, if that suits your fancy]
- adopt the dog [if you didn't kill it already, of course]
- multiple paths [I tried to make all paths somewhat equal in content, so players wouldn't feel like their path is lacking. Feel free to have multiple saves! Go crazy, there's a lot of variance!]
- time, day, hunger and flashlight systems introduced! Also one death added [on a certain path]
- get the map
- blow up a cabin
- find an old man
- two unique responses if you name the dog certain names

my mc will always feed their sibling (and give them drinks) and the doggy before themselves. basically my mc is the embodiment of 'guess ill die' meme.
im always so soft around children and animals in IFs. U-U why am i making this so hard for myself
During play-testing I was just like you 😭 I had to actually artificially boost the amount of rations and water you can find, since MC's with a sibling and dog were always on the verge of starvation lol!

A Sun Asunder: Post Apocalypse update!
18K --> 34K
As promised, the update that I said would come out sometime this week! I added 18k more words, which will have you leaving home and meeting your first RO, Ranger.
I may not update after this for a little bit as I'll be using next week to comb through the new content and fine tune it up some more. If you run into bugs or any strange sequences, please tell me!
Also I'm so sorry to all of you who prefer Dashingdon, I promise you Im cursed because every time I try to upload the game there something or the other stops me. One day I'll figure it out I swear lol.
For now it's only on moody, so please make an account with Moody to access the save feature!
Yapping over, let's get into it.
Full spoiler rundown:
2 unique initial meetings with Ranger depending on your previous and current choices
Bug fixes and stats screen slightly improved.
New systems -- I've introduced energy, hunger/thirst, flashlight as well as day/night mechanics. This should allow for really interesting encounters later in the game when you have more free-will to explore.
For those of you who picked to have a younger sibling: yes, you'll be responsible to feed them as well.

Finally...finished off all the leftover writing and ended up on the current demo being 64k [instead of my intended 60]. All that's left is to playtest/correct some bugs [cries] and finish up some minor threads before I can publish the update!
I'll definitely have it out sometime next week, but this update should bring to you 30k words of new content and branching that I'm proud of :) evil players will have the Time of their lives lol
Anyway, that's all for now. Sorry for the long wait on this yall <3 I hope it'll be worth it when I get it out

Just finished reading demo, and I love it so much🥰 Especially, replayability of the game is crazy. I feel there are will be many branches in the future. In my first play I left my sibling alone, so I decided to tag them with me second time to Ranger’s house and discovered so many new options. I just hope nothing happens to sibling. Their behaviour is somewhat concerning sometimes, it seems they still quite ill🫠🫠
So, I also have a question. What is Ro’s ideal partner? What qualities do they admire and like to see in other people?

hi! loved the update a lot, i will certainly try different paths when I have more time. just wanted to ask, do you need to meet any criteria to adopt the dog? my only option while meeting the dog was to shoo it away:(
Hey anon! Could you tell me which choices you made? [Specifically: did you pick the sibling, and did you choose to run away from/confront the dogs at the start? Are you travelling with Ranger or not?]
Someone else also had this error, but for the life of me I can't find anything wrong with the code...I might have to add an alternative check so that if one variable check fails, atleast one other will pass

Quick little update: the second RO's [Wanderer's] gender will now mirror Rangers gender [so if Ranger is male, Wanderer will be male and vice versa]
This is because [spoiler spoile-
Lol, the real reason is that you can talk to Ranger about Wanderer before ever meeting them, and referring to Wanderer as 'they' until you choose their gender feels a little clunky plot wise.
I hope this is fine rip < / 3 I tried to work around it, but there's no better solution as of rn

Random thing aside, hi, hello, I am Alive and making some decent progress. One of the routes is coming along good [God help me the branching was giving me an aneurysm but we ball] and I've got a good grasp on how they'll both 'meet up' now.
Slowly getting into the roll of dealing with the new mechanics and I'm pretty optimistic with what I have done.
I don't wanna make any promises for an update, but I'm hoping to double the word count before I release it[so from 37k --> 60-ish K is when I'll get the next chapter out]
Sorry the updates are so slow 🙏I hope to get faster and get atleast one big one out before year end

RO'S MBTI TYPES
----------------------
• Ranger
ISTJ - A / ISFJ-A
Ranger is a classic 'knight in shining armor'.
Logistician/Defender seems about right for them, as they're unshakebly loyal and warm (when you earn it, of course) and tend to pride themselves on their reliability. Ranger finds their purpose in other people -- which is a shame, since they're been in the woods 'all alone' for so long lmao. Maybe you can become their new purpose 👀👀
They take whatever they perceive as being their 'responsibility' very seriously -- whether it's a promise long forgotten or an obligation they put upon themselves.
They might be a little too overprotective, or come off a bit too strong at times though.

• Wanderer
ISFP-A /ISTP-A
Wanderer is a total toss up between Adventurer and Virtuoso.
They really like remaining a 'mysterious' and 'unknown' figure, going so far as to wear a face mask so you can barely tell what they look like. Wanderer has no set home, preferring to stay nomadic and change their scenery every so often.
They're incredibly charming, concerningly so, and will swindle you out of your secrets and life story before you even know their name. Wanderer is good with their hands and tools, taking scrap they come across during their journey's and turning them into more useful items.
Not that physically strong, they've managed to craft out a living through trading and staying on the move.
Wanderer might come across as dismissive sometimes. You never really know what's going on in that head.

• Bite
INTJ
I'm ngl I struggled so hard finding a MBTI type for this dude 😭😭 eventually i settled on INTJ since it's the most red flag since it has a few key aspects of them.
Bite tends to the more obsessive spectrum of things, bringing a single-minded drive to anything they deem interesting enough (whether that be a person wink or an object)
They have little patience for anyone who tries to slow them down by enforcing pointless rules or offering poorly thought-out criticism – anyone who stands in the way of their 'interests' is point blank wrong.
They aren’t afraid to break the rules or risk disapproval – in fact, they often rather enjoy it. Bite makes it their #1 priority to evoke a strong reaction out of anyone, since they've been alone for so long.
They have an independent streak and often act alone when doing things. They still care, though -- if they do something to hurt you, trust they'll be agonizing over it for hours later.

I can't describe too much since its spoilers
This matched Shade perfectly since they've got a personal mission to complete, no matter how impossible it might seem. They're extremely quiet and reserved, yearning for company but far too shy to actively seek it out.
They tend to get lost in their own head a lot, anxious more often than not. Even one or two friends would be enough for Shade to feel fulfilled and happy.
They seem to be seeking out a purpose as well, floating along in the sandy dunes aimlessly. Maybe you can help them with that

Hehe hi hello yall I'm here I'm not dead
Progress is still ongoing [I'm focusing on doing one of the branches right now, but it's still in the early stages due to all the new variables/mechanics that are gonna be introduced and tracked. Which means progress is getting a lil bogged down as I experiment with how to implement them successfully]
I'm so sorry this isn't an update post but I feel bad about leaving y'all in the dark lol -- if you're still here and invested in this project, thank you so much! You have no idea how much it motivates me
