First Update of 2022! Hopefully the first of many more

So, finally things have somewhat settled down in my personal life! I finally have the motivation to try to re-write things in Ash & Memory only to realize that I needed to spend a LOT more time worldbuilding before I started writing.

S0, Ash & Memory will be getting an overhaul! I plan on keeping most of the characters the same, so you can all still enjoy them, and any worldbuilding stuff or art I do will be put here!

Also if you have any asks, feel free to send them in! I always love answering asks <3

Lelena Warde

Lelena Warde is one of the few Inexians to marry a human. She has no interest in Viscount Cevere Warde, she finds him controlling and rather domineering, however she stays with him because he offers her what her family cannot. Freedom. After her dear husband found out that he cannot control her, he allows Lelena to do as she mostly pleases, as long as it does not ruin the Warde's reputation.

While Lelena does not love her husband, she adores and dotes upon her child, Valentine. She often covers for them whenever they want to sneak out and do something "fun". Lelena sees Valentine as the greatest thing about her current life, and she is their greatest confidant.

All in all, while Lelena's life may not be perfect, it is more than satisfactory for her.

Lore: Inexian Issues

I think one of the most glaring issues of the Inexia would be the marital system. They're very advanced, but they're also very old. While most of the society may choose to embrace change as it comes, it also has old fashioned values instilled. I think if you're of Inexian Nobility, anyone you befriend would have to be approved by both parents. The princess and her knight were acquainted via the princess's parents, though they're required to maintain a professional relationship because he is of "lower status". "Friends" amongst Inexian nobility are not rare, but are definitely not common, at least the true kind. Most nobility bonds are formed by the parents introducing the children and allowing a sort of shaky alliance to be formed. Though, not is all as it seems. The idea of Inexian society is idyllic, almost utopian. It's too perfect, and there are definitely snakes hidden in the grass.

Valentine Warde

Valentine Warde is the child of Viscount Ceveré Warde. The Viscount has very high expectations for his child, expecting excellence from all they do. Valentine's mother, Lelena, is far gentler, encouraging her child to do what pleases them. Valentine does what their father expects of them, and yet also follows their mother's advice. Excelling in any subject they set their mind to, yet also having to maintain a very delicate balancing act to please their domineering father, always maintaining a placid expression around him. Valentine, themself, enjoys the pursuit of magic. A half Inexian themself, they excel in magic of the world, a true prodigy. They are popular, charismatic, and very friendly. However, nothing is truly as it seems, is it? Valentine is almost too agreeable, too likable. Look close enough, and you can see the tiredness in their usually vibrant eyes, you can see the cracks in their mask beginning to form. Is who they present themself as truly who they are? Do they even know who they are?

Lore Update: Elves

The Elves mentioned in the previous version will now be referred to as Inexia from now on! The lore of the Elves felt incredibly boring to me, so I wanted to create something more diverse and creative!

The Inexia are beings with a natural talent to control the energy that surrounds them, rooted in the very earth they walk upon. It gives them extremely long lives, meaning their lives are greatly extended, and thus their technology is very advanced. Ill be expanding more on the lore in the days to come!

Um, hi. It's been a while, and I definitely owe an explanation on not only why I disappeared, but what's going to happen in the future. I started Ash & Memory when I was in a very good point in my life, and... shortly after, everything changed for me. I moved from one toxic household to another, I discovered I likely have OSDD and am part of a system, my anxiety and depression spiraled, and I lost focus. I'm still in a not good point and I'm not up to development right now. This is no excuse for disappearing, at all. I've debated dropping this project all together, but I'm not going to. This concept is my baby, I'm not going to just drop it.

So, I'm going on a hiatus. I don't know how long.

Now, onto what's going to happen. Development will not stop completely, like I said, I'm not dropping the project. I think I just need time to heal. I will still be answering asks, I will still look at messages, I may still occasionally post stories! Worldbuilding kinds of things. But I can't work on coding for right now. Again, I am so sorry to everyone. But this isn't the end.

Update 03/15/2021

Hey everyone! Shuu here for an early (or late) update! 

First things first, new program! I was originally using Twine to do things, since it had seemed the easiest at the time. Well, I got an upgrade and it is making things so much smoother! I’ve decided to run things on Ren’Py instead! (Idea courtesy of the lovely @iorifd I didn’t know you could make IF on Ren’Py!) got a small amount of the demo coded already, and it already works so much smoother than Twine! I’m really excited to see how much faster I can do things, since Ren’Py is a lot easier for me to use :)

Hi, Im still here!

Hey everyone! Sorry I took such a long break away, theres been a lot going on in my personal life that has taken up most, if not all, of my energy. That doesn’t mean I havent been working though! I’m still slowly but surely working on a demo. Unfortunately, due to a lot of things going on in my personal life, I havent gotten as much done as I wanted to. I’m still probably going to be working slow at the moment, but I plan to work harder in the future! So, hopefully I can make that work ^^

Update 2/13/2021

Hey everyone! Shuu here for this week’s incredibly belated update.

So, I’ve been incredibly busy in my personal life, I have recently moved house, am having wifi connection issues, I m now in school again, and I have a part time job now as well.

But that does not mean that I was not working on Ash & Memory stuff! I was working on writing and also looking into places to put the demo, when it does come out! Im so sorry for not being around so often, but I promise to communicate more in the future.

This coming week, I plan to get one branch of the demo coded. I hope to finish it in the coming weeks and get it tested a bit before releasing it.

Update 01/01/2021

Hey everyone! Shuu here with this week’s update!

This week, I started writing and coding for the Ash & Memory demo! I have a very simple draft done of a fair amount of the story, but I’ve started a second draft.

The demo unfortunately, does not currently have pronoun choices for Ash, the MC, but the game will, for sure. I’m still trying to figure out how to put in a custom name feature, so hopefully I can get that implemented soon. If not, I’ll take name suggestions and put a poll in to see the favorites, then use those.

This coming week, I plan to get at least half of the demo finished, and start writing in other routes. My plan is for the demo to end right before the route choice for which character you romance, but it may also be extended a bit into the route so that everyone can see a bit of the romance aspect of the game.

Let's say mc has to go on a trip for something and it'll be a few weeks. So mc suggests to the ros that they buy each other stuffed animals so that they both have something to cuddle while the mc is away.

Awww that’s so cute!

Lecia would have receive something mythical, like a unicorn or an alicorn. She’d get something cute, like a normal stuffed rabbit for MC, or someone else.

Misha would absolutely receive a stuffed bear, and would probably get something like that for MC. 

Amphelice/Aaron would receive something pretty cute, like a stuffed kitten, and get very upset if it disappears. They’d probably get something like a colorful, mystical looking stuffed animal for MC.

Lynx would love a stuffed bird! As for what they’d give, they’d probably give something like a stuffed woodland animal, maybe a squirrel.

Valentine would receive something very regal looking, whatever that may be. He would likely choose something similar in turn, maybe an eagle or a pegasus.

Aeron would receive a stuffed owl, something old and wise looking. Aeron would probably buy a colorful, shiny plushie, no matter what the animal is, to give to MC.

Introduction!

Hi! You can call me Shuu, I am the dev for Ash & Memory! My pronouns are she/her/hers and they/them/theirs. I am super excited to announce this project. I’ve been working on Ash & Memory for about 5-6 years now, and I recently decided I would make it into an interactive fiction instead of a book. I’m still super early in development, so I’ll be posting things as I go. I just got very excited about this project and wanted to share it with everyone! I won’t be posting everything, of course, I have to leave some mystery~. Feel free to send in asks any time, and I look forward to getting to know everyone! <3

This week, I was mostly working on commissions and getting ready for school, since my semester starts in a few days!

Next week, I plan on writing some more, getting some more concept art done, and working on writing.

Update 12/19/2020

Hey everyone! Shuu here with this week’s update!

So, this week I was super busy, combined with my laptop issues made things kind of tricky, but I got a few chapters of every route planned out, and I am going to start writing soon so I can get a demo out in the next few months! I also started working with Twine, which is what I’m using to code Ash & Memory. I’m still a beginner at coding so it’s definitely a new experience for me, but I welcome the challenge, hehe.

This coming week I plan to start coding the demo, hopefully I can get it out sooner rather than later.

My discord is the pinned post on my blog, and anyone is welcome to join~ also my DMs are always open, even if I respond a bit late.
