What to do when something illegal happens at work

When your boss does something illegal at work, it's common to freeze up because you're not sure what to do. Here are a few tips for how to handle those situations during and after:

While it is happening:

Keep yourself safe. In the moment, your first priority is always to keep yourself and others from physical harm and out of danger as much as possible. If any other advice I give you conflicts with that, your safety takes priority.

Make sure you know where you are. If you think your safety might be at risk, getting your bearings can be critically important. Take note of potential exit routes, hazards, the flow of traffic (both vehicle and foot traffic), cameras, and any safe areas you know of. Later, knowledge of your exact location may be very important in reconstructing events.

Check the time. Knowing exactly when something happened, and how long it took, will be extremely valuable.

Look around for witnesses, and try to bring some over if possible. Witnesses will both reduce the likelihood of more outrageous behavior and help you to take action afterwards. Do your best to remember who was there.

Say "please let me finish" every time you're interrupted, and count the number of times it happened. Bullies love to interrupt people at the first sign of disagreement, and then later they'll claim that nobody disagreed with them when instead nobody could get in a word edgewise. Saying "please let me finish" calls out the fact that they were interrupting, and a count of the times you were interrupted will help you protect yourself from being misinterpreted later.

Avoid agreeing to anything or signing anything if possible. You have the right to review any document that you're asked to sign, which usually includes taking the document and having it examined by an attorney. If you're being threatened with serious consequences if you don't sign immediately, write "signed under duress". If they're asking for a verbal agreement, try to get them to accept a "let me think about it/check my to-do list/etc" rather than a hard "yes". Even if the thing you'd be agreeing to is something you're okay with, it's still important not to agree to things when you don't feel like you're allowed to say "no"; in stressful situations, our judgment can be seriously compromised, and allowing yourself to be bullied into saying "yes" will set a bad precedent for further interactions.

After it's over, as soon as you're in a safe place:

Send a follow-up email summarizing your understanding of what was communicated. It can be as simple as "just to ensure we understood each other, what I got was that you were telling me/us that [we'll be disciplined if we discuss our wages/contacting a union is a fireable offense/our pay will be docked if anyone submits a complaint to OSHA/etc], is that correct?". If there is information that protects you, such as a health condition or pregnancy you need accommodation for or a prior agreement that is being violated, include it in your email even if the company already knows. CC HR and any coworkers who were present and BCC your personal email*. Forward any responses to your personal email as well*.

Rescind any agreements you made. Either in the same email as step #2 or in a separate email, depending on what you think is appropriate, say "I didn't feel like I could safely say 'no' in that situation, so I'd like to rescind my earlier agreement until I've had some time to reconsider." If it's something you think you'd have otherwise agreed to, try to offer a time frame for an actual decision. CC HR and BCC your personal email*.

Collect any evidence you can, and make note of any evidence that exists but isn't accessible to you. This includes emails about the issue, any photos that were already taken or that you can safely and legally take,

If something illegal was done or hinted at, contact the applicable regulatory agency as soon as possible with all of the information above.

Consider arranging a consult with an employment law attorney -- consults aren't the same as retainers, they're considerably cheaper (or sometimes free, depending on your income and the possibility of a lawsuit) and can either turn into ongoing representation or just be a one-time service.

* Don't include information that you have a legitimate duty to safeguard, such as customer data, protected health information, or non-public market-affecting information. This does not include any information pertaining to working conditions, your compensation, regulatory compliance, or workplace safety -- the company isn't allowed to demand that you keep those a secret. Either try to get the point across without including the specific information that's being safeguarded, or censor it by replacing it with two underscores per replacement with generic descreptors as necessary (i.e. 'I have safety concerns about the release of our secret robotics project on January 10' becomes 'I have safety concerns about the release of our __[project]__ on __[date]__').

Custom Sims. I have extremely limited time to play my game due to my full time job, health, and other real life commitments. I am lucky if I get as much as an hour to play some days. When time is that limited, I just want to engage in my hobby for myself without pressure.

Updates on certain stories/families/etc. As of right now, due to time and health, consider all of my series on hiatus. I am having a hard time finding the excitement and passion I had to update those stories right now. I'm sure they'll return in the future when things have settled, but I have no way of knowing when that will be. Please respect that and don't pressure me for updates. Hobbies are supposed to be fun and there are parts of my hobby that aren't fun to me right now.

Blog layout changes. I am working on changing a few things around to make them more accessible but I am not planning on making any big template or color changes, etc. I just don't have the time or know how to do that.

I hope this doesn't come off as me whining or being mean. I do love this community and I enjoy being a part of it, but lately I have been getting some requests that I have initially agreed to because I want to make everyone happy but I am not able to fulfill those requests due to my circumstances at the moment. I am simply not able to please everyone and myself. I just want to engage in my hobby in the way that I want without feeling pressured or like I am letting people down. I feel like I've been spreading myself too thin, starting projects I'm unable to finish for whatever reason and I feel like a failure for having so many abandoned things. Please respect my wishes and don't ask for these things unless I say it's ok to do so.

They mentioned wanting to pay with mobile deposit which I mentioned over and over again that I haven't used before and even after I looked into it mentioned that I wasn't comfortable with that method of payment. After waiting I've decided to just move on.

My commissions aren't cheap except for lineart but it depends on case. Prices can be debated of course, I'm willing to have prices change depending on what art you want, how much time it takes, and what is included in it. I've opened animation commissions in the past but no one said anything about them so while these prices may change later at some point I feel pretty okay with the prices here. Imagine paying for smut art but basically animation. They will only be lineart until I grow more comfortable with coloring animations and when I eventually do of course I'll price up for cases to get paid what I deserve for my work. Just be patient with animations since they'll take a couple days to get done I'm sure but you'll absolutely get an amazing piece for commissioning me.

Blue team stans yesterday: Fucked that team red was killing afk players.

The afk players:

Missa: typing in chat not long before he was killed asking to kill Foolish, not alone and with a teammate when he was killed, people argue whether he was typing or afk.

Bagi: Straight up not afk, trying to talk to Cellbit with her sword out.

Blue team fans today: if anyone says anything negative about team Blue today they suck.

I haven't seen a lot of neg about team Blue, did see a whole lot about team red from team Blue the past two wins. Not even just complaining about the fandom (valid). Complaining about the last second submission. About them 'villainising' poor innocent BBH who has repeatedly spawn camped them. About them killing 'afk' players. As soon as they are winning complaining is wrong. I hope BBH gets kicks out of OT. I hope people stop trusting him after this. I hope blue team isn't the cursed team. I hope it is green. I hope the server turns on him /lore. I hope Philza heals his relationships with green team. Would be nice to see if he could hang out with Forever and everyone. I hope this alliance lasts a little longer. And things get worse for blue. I hope BBH means they can't ally with anyone and no one trusts them.

I know how easy it is to get heated up with this event and with BBH (believe me, I've been there) but try to take a step back and see it in a more logical approach.

As Etoiles says "Hate the game, not the player". RP wise, Dapper told BBH "Run over whoever you need to win" and he took it to the heart. He's desperate to have his kid, he was never a very sane individual. But his kid gone, a chance to get him back, and being at the disadvantage of being a single parent I'm actually not surprised that he did all that. If he was allowed to do worse he would.

Thankfully the admins already patched spawn killing and last minute contract strategies and hopefully they'll keep balancing to be even better.

RP wise I do agree that it would be interesting if that makes a dent with his non-blue team relationships because a lot of them never see him being so ruthless and so evil, he always could get away by his "I'm just a little guy" facade, and this event clearly shown his true colors.

I don't think he'll be kicked out of the Order though because the leader is an insane cannibal who'd definitely kill a bunch of people if that translated to Minecraft skills (maybe not spawn killing though) and he was already going on a murder spree back on the island. So I think he'll be forgiven in this front, especially because he's doing all for Dapper.

I think it's completely valid to hate qBBH guts this event, and hell you can hate cc!BBH too as long as you don't try to spread negativity.

Red definitely wants his blood though, so I can totally see them doing their best to aid green so Etoiles and Roier, who also are itching to kill him, can get his ass. Red already has huge BBH paranoia.

I'm not sure if it'll happen today (or tomorrow?) because the event dynamics of protecting the egg, so that maybe will unite people because the eggs were something that always did it. Or maybe they're not willing to give away their win because of concern for the egg they'll get. Because there's no way they're not getting attached. NO WAY.

But regardless I'm curious how this is going to affect relationships in the future.

Just a Quick ask if this hasn’t been asked before. Since you said cannon-ly(?)  the cc isnt very close with y/n what would push them to get closer to her? Would they try becoming close friend if she had no one eles/no friends? And how would they approach her ( Little by little or laying all of then on her at once) 

That situation would be a little more difficult. There is no way Y/n would not have any friends, since Hoseok is their self proclaimed best friend. They really are friends though. So it's unlikely that they'd attempt to get closer if Y/n had no friends (aside from Hoseok). In fact, they prefer it. Y/n doesn't need anyone else, friends are overrated.

But, the thing that could push them to get closer to Y/n would be; Y/n spending a lot of time with Hoseok. And I don't mean, they spend break together. I mean, Y/n is practically clinging to Hoseok, their only friend, to the point of insisting to partake in their club activities. That would however be a major inconvenience to the club, as much as the boys would try to deny it. They can no longer plan, obsess or discard evidence. To still fulfill the club's purpose they'd have to secretly meet outside of school. As if it could get any worse than that, they have to spend more time together and have a higher risk of Y/n catching them kill some stuck up, douche of a student who dared to ask Y/n if they wanted to partner up for their science project.

The chance of them approaching Y/n is slim. Besides the fact that the boys tend to go overboard if in Y/n's presence for too long, they also agreed to terms and conditions when entering the cooking club. Not like they had a chance though, would they have declined, it would've been the last thing they'd have done. But willing or not, contract is a contract. They're too deep to get out of there without consequences. All of them have killed, stalked or otherwise committed crimes that would leave them prisonbound if anything were to be uncovered. No chance of escape. The idea of being with Y/n will forever be dangling infront of them, just barely out of reach to keep them going. What a miserable fate.

Though, would they be forced (more like allowed) to become friends with their beloved Y/n, their ways if going about ut would be different. Hoseok would introduce them, making sure to not talk positively about them so Y/n doesn't end up preferring one of them over him. Seokjin would be very transparent with his intentions of becoming their friend. Unlike Seokjin, Yoongi would be very quiet and shy, avoiding eye contact and trying not to die from a heart attack, with how close Y/n is standing to him. Namjoon would try to be logical and rational with his approach, but there is no logic when it comes to his feelings for Y/n. So he would end up nervously stuttering and panicking that he might've said something wrong. Of course, Jimin is already all over them and flirting to keep their attention on him. Taehyung would almost pass out if Y/n were to shake his hand. His God/Goddess just touched his hand... should he chop it off an place in his shrine? No, then it'd be harder to serve his master/mistress and they only deserve the best of the best. Jeongguk is... normal? Surprisingly normal for his standards. He doesn't yell as much or complain or openly obsess over them. Jeongguk doesn't want to mess up his chance, so he tries his very best to control himself and not scare them away. That won't last too long though, only until his place as their friend isn't secure (aka they agreed to eat lunch with him).

Despite that, it's unlikely they'll ever truly be friends. Not as long as Hoseok can help it.

He never failed to notice your over-the-top makeup and crazy piercings, for a Wendy's worker you sure were odd. Then again he wasn't the most normal person either, he insisted everyone call him Dream over his real name, he was taller than 90% of the other workers there, and he wasn't very close with anyone else there. Unlike you who made friends with everyone.

Another day, another outfit. Dream had tried to have as many shifts with you as possible, it was kinda creepy but he really enjoyed seeing your outfits every day. It had gotten to the point where he had started talking to his roommate about you.

"So uh, not to come off as rude or anything, because frankly, that's the last thing I want to do. But uhm, why do you dress like that? I mean like why do you always change your style and go full out on everything when you're simply working at Wendy's?" You looked surprised before smiling at him.

The replies to George & the tweets about him come off as bullying at this point. I haven't seen 1 tweet in the past day trying to kindly educate him. Not 1. I've seen people making gay jokes about him & telling him to come out as damage control, making fun of him for probably feeling anxious, sexualizing his imaginary subservience to Dream but also making him Dream's evil puppeteer, hoping he gets sick to prove a point, making fun of him being colorblind, calling him names, but not any good info

Let's break this ask down:

I have seen some good tweets tbh. Not everyone on Twitter is stupid. Some have made great takes and genuinely explained why they're concerned. They have also not only looked at George but at all the ccs which is great. Some Tweets are stupid I do agree. And some are just for clout which I just don't fucking understand but we'll get to that

2. The thing with coming out and gay joke I have seen as well. I think it's weird but I can't really comment on it since I'm straight and I don't have too strong feelings regarding it

3. making fun of him for feeling anxious is sth that annoys me so much. I've already said how stupid it is that they say mantal health is important and hate is stupid. They probably genuienly think that. But they don't realize that tweets like that make him not want to speak up on anything. If my whole fanbase was making fun of my anxiety to speak in front of thousands of ppl I wouldn't speak up ever. No matter what he does it won't satisfy anyone. they expect him to find the one right way to deal with it not thinking about how he's only a human who made the same mistake many people have already made (me included)

4. the sexualizing him to be Dreams idiotic sub is making me so annoyed already. First of all they just had to bring Dream into this for some reason. And then they had to make him be Georges big smart dad who will scold his out of line bottom. Like stfu I can't look at it anymore.

5. Yeah idk I just think the jokes are getting repetitive because they're trying to gain a hit tweet from this whole thing. Like the colorblind jokes have been going from the day we found out George was colourblind. Ppls just hope for likes as if they'll achieve sth by it. Social media is fucked

Hi, I've been lurking on Tumblr for the past few months and I've noticed that some stans act really fucking weird about ccs. Like some stans refuse to acknowledge the cc's negative sides while looking at them through rose tinted glasses. They'll even call some questionable behaviour "hot"! On the other hand some people's "criticism" of a cc is that ...they don't like them?!?? Some fans happily shit on other ccs while trying to lovepost about "their" ccs. Some of them project their own feelings on a particular cc. Some people are literally genuinely truthing ccs!!! And idk, this kind of behaviour really creeps me out lol. What do you think about this?

well for starters i want to say that i’m not an exception to this behavior. i probably tend to overlook george’s flaws because i like him while being critical of others because i’m indifferent towards them. i can admit that i’m biased - but for the most part i can say you’ll never see me saying george is something he’s not.

my opinion on people posting stuff is that you can post whatever you want. but don’t pussy out when you get backlash. don’t start victimizing urself like the community came after you for no reason. talk shit get hit, you know? if you bring down another cc for no good reason and the stans of that cc call u out on it, i see that as fair game.

when it comes to truthing… the dream team said they didn’t care (or at least i think dream did) so whatever. i’ll agree in that i think it can be…. really weird (i’ve seen analysis over dnf moments that have genuinely made me uncomfortable or laugh out loud due to how far they were reaching) but at this point just unfollow or block those people. don’t need to make a big deal of it - they’re not hurting anyone.

Hello there~! It's been a while! (๑˃ᴗ˂)

Since my English is trash, please excuse me for any mistake I made! I learnt it by myself and haven't spoken in English to anyone before... Here's an update on my life because I vented a lot last year (and ultimately, disappeared) TT-TT I said that my parent lost their job, yes. Up until this day, they still haven't found a new one. I did asked them about it, and they told me they're planning on retire early instead of finding a new job. My mom insisted me to drop school and find a job to support our family, but my dad doesn't agree with that soooo I'm still in school, yay?

I saved up enough money to buy a new PC, which is why I'm back here. I wasn't able to online because my old laptop was so slow, it's nearly impossible to go on tumblr (*꒦ິ꒳꒦ີ) Because of having a new PC, I'll start trying to make my own CC for TS4 (maybe also TS2?), and of course, they'll free of charge. But since my family have... money issues? (+ my mom got into gamble and demand money from me every once in a while now (｡•́︿•̀｡) ) I'll try and set up a donate link in the future! Tubbo values his life less than the discs, and once Dream takes their stuff he stops trying to fight at all. Tommy, on the other hand, is still looking for ways out (he suggests the portal, Tubbo says they'll die before they get there). He literally says he's lived long enough and it's okay if someone murders him.

Another scene that sticks out to me but I don't often see addressed (because so many other things happened that day) is when Dream berated him at the second festival. It was just a solid two minutes basically of Dream calling him an idiot. Tubbo stood there silently and just took it and at the end he just said, "Yeah. You're right." I actually didn't notice that he agreed until rewatching it for like the third or fourth time, because his words were drowned out by Dream and Techno talking over him, but he agrees out loud. Not to mention the whole speech at the finale that you mentioned where Dream calls him a pawn. Not to mention how many people told him how bad he was as President and how many times he got compared to Schlatt--Schlatt, who treated those under his command badly, and who ordered Tubbo’s execution.

You're right that nobody's really checked in on him and that Tubbo hasn't asked for help either (not that anyone on this server tends to ask for help lol). Tubbo also kind of flies under the radar because he really strongly projects positivity. He's pretty upbeat normally (although a lot of this is probably cc!tubbo streaming while not fully in character). And all the other characters have their own issues upon issues to work through, so I think they take it at face value and assume he's doing fine because he sounds fine (and nobody but Tommy and Dream heard him in the finale when he was ready to die.) But it doesn't take long at all to realize that he's doing badly. Also, the entire nukes plotline is not exactly something a totally okay and mentally stable person would do--that's him clinging for dear life onto the one thing he has after losing everything repeatedly.

My daily character analysis essay because I have an issue, my hyperfixation is so strong that I’m just trying to channel it into something creative at least.

Something minor that has bothered me since the end of the disc wars is everybody’s treatment, or lack thereof, of Tubbo. I am not going to come at this from the angle of him being a kid because I don’t want to infantilize him.

Nobody seems to realize that he nearly died for good that day, the only person besides Tommy that seemed to actively check up on him after that was Quackity, who seemed to be genuinely worried about him. But nobody else much cares how he is feeling, and I think this is something that sort of helps these negative views he has about himself.

Everyone whose opinion meant anything to Tubbo has told him he is a pawn or a follower. Wilbur, his general and trusted friend, called him a yes man even after all he did to help him. Dream, a perceived friend, treated him as expendable and didn’t even address him when threatening his death, directing his speech to Tommy the entire time. Tommy, in a moment of conflict and weakness, said he was worth less than the discs. And others, namely Jack Manifold and Technoblade, condescend him behind his back for being gullible or weak. He honestly can’t be doing okay, especially when he all but handed himself over to death because he thought the discs were worth more. It’s really sad to see him like this and even sadder that no one has really caught on.

A scene that stands out particularly was when Ghost Wilbur spoke to Tommy about the whole ordeal and told him he was proud of him, and Tubbo was right there and he didn’t even address him. Tubbo fought just as hard as Tommy did but had nobody to show him any form of affection after, besides his best friend.

Even now, a week later, Tubbo doesn’t really have anybody. Sam Nook has made it very clear he’s only looking out for Tubbo because of his association with Tommy. Quackity is preoccupied with other things and Tommy seems to be more focused on the hotel and his recovery (which he is allowed to be, I’m not really trying to demonize anyone for this). He sees Ranboo as a friend but it’s obvious Ranboo doesn’t fully trust him and he constantly bashes Snowchester to his face. Tubbo doesn’t have any form of support system and is left to flounder and just deal with everything on his own. Which is nobody’s fault really, nobody owes Tubbo anything and he hasn’t actively reached out for help, but it’s just really sad to see it. Ranboo has Philza and Techno, Tommy has Sam and Puffy, who does Tubbo have? Who actively checks on Tubbo to see if he’s okay and make sure he isn’t spiraling or becoming apathetic to the thought of his own death? (I’m sorry I’m still super bothered by how ready he was to die and how nobody has checked on him about this.)

So now here I am, watching this guy build up his little town and prepare to protect this only thing he has with his life, and I swear to everything if The Syndicate shows up to tear his home down I’ll riot. Tubbo is one of the most tragic characters on the SMP (people have made better essays about this point) and deserves his Snowchester and every shred of happiness he can get before shit inevitably hits the fan again.

(Also!! I’m going to acknowledge that most of this stuff may not have been addressed because he isn’t always in character in his streams, I just would like a little focus on Tubbos character in the future!!! Not blaming any cc for this in any way shape or form!!!!)
