I really love the "Tigerstar is Swiftpaw's dad" AU. It doesn't change that much storywise, but it just makes it really tragic with Tigerstar sending the dogs that kill him and him wanting to prove himself.
To be honest I really thought for the longest time he WAS Swiftpaw's dad.
God... Tiger spying on Gatherings and not seeing Swiftpaw there. Overhearing apprentices gossip.
"Did you hear what happened to Brightpaw? I hope she doesn't get an infection."
"Better than what happened to Swiftpaw."
But... What happened to Swiftpaw? Where was he? Was he hurt?
Tigerstar getting his 9 lives and seeing his son standing in the crowd, glaring at him with a look that chokes him. He sees the glittering scars and puts 2 and 2 together. That was his son, his baby, his precious boy so full of potential and life and so stubborn and proud. Why was he not given a name? Why did Bluestar treat his son like this? She gave a name to the bastard kittypet child, but denied his son? She's to blame of course, not him, he would have named him Swiftstrike or Swiftfang, something respectable and powerful. His son... Sitting there with his other lost child, lost so young, they both look so unhappy...
Seeing Swiftpaw amongst his own victims as he keeps dying over and over again. Begging them each time to help him. Help me Swiftpaw, please, please, you love me, I'm your father you need to do something you need to save me please Swiftpaw please don't let me die I'm your papa I love y
Watching his other sons, another child of his lost too young, Tadpole was so much like him too, fearless and strong.
Comparing Hawkfrost to Swiftpaw in the horrible way that parents do. Come on Hawkfrost that was sloppy, Swiftpaw had that technique down and never left apprenticeship, you'll avenge me and your brother, Firestar was deputy he could have said something, it would have saved your brother's life.
Seeing Swiftpaw during the Great Battle giving a blessing to Firestar. Realizing he gave Firestar a life and just... Losing it. Firestar stole his son from him, and let him die, and his perfect son still gave him a life?! Why?!
Oh it all just goes perfectly.
Although... It does give Tigerstar the widest family tree EVER.
Lynxkit, Swiftpaw, Brambleclaw, Tawnypelt, Tadpole, Mothwing and Hawkfrost. Oof, gift giving events have gotta be a nightmare.

Oh yay! Apprentice asks!!! Can we get a small look at all the Kindling apprentices relationships with their mentors?
I'm going to just be doing the ThunderClan apprentices, because I have no idea on any of the other Clans, since they weren't relevant enough to design:
Tigerclaw and Sandpaw: Easily the most emotionally distant pair of mentor and apprentice out of the five. They didn't think too high or too low of each other - the pairing was decided by Bluestar with the specific intention of managing Sandpaw's temper and guiding her into a more sensible, calmer warrior. Tigerclaw was the cat everyone respected, to the point that even the cat with the worst attitude in the Clan (Darkstripe) submitted to him and enjoyed his company (not that Tigerclaw was super close to anyone at this point in time). That said, Tigerclaw hadn't really wanted another apprentice, but he knew he was the cat for the job, so he agreed to it. Sandpaw needed his discipline and stoic sternness to grow as a person and actually get some learning done. It worked out pretty well, I'd say.
Redtail and Dustpaw: Now these two, on the other hand, very much enjoyed being paired together. Dustpaw deeply admired the deputy of ThunderClan for his cool head and excellent work ethic, and Redtail was fond of his overly-rules-oriented little student who could use someone more casual and friendly to study from. Dustpaw was eager to learn and Redtail was eager to teach, and he saw great potential in Dustpaw that he hoped to channel into a leadership position one day. The only pair in this list more perfectly matched than them is the one below this paragraph!
Whitecloud and Ravenpaw: Whitecloud was not remotely surprised when Bluestar approached him and asked if he would mentor the scrawny, shaky little puffball of anxiety who took a full month more than the other kits to be coaxed out of the nursery. In fact, he'd been observing Ravenkit and felt a pang of sympathy every time the little guy flinched or ran away from someone who raised their voice just a bit too loud. Ravenpaw was still terrified when he had his ceremony, but he quickly found that Whitecloud was the first cat he could really relax around and feel...well, maybe not confident, but certainly less panicked and doubtful about his self-worth. Whitecloud never once raised his voice above a near-murmur around his apprentice or used anything but a gentle vocabulary, and it did wonders for helping Ravenpaw utilize his intelligence and learn more easily and quicker than everyone else. But Ravenpaw still needed a push to be able to speak to his fellow apprentices... luckily, a young kittypet with a soul as soft as down-feathers came along and helped Whitecloud out quite a bit with that. Safe to say that Whitecloud is incredibly proud of Ravenwing for having grown as much as he has since becoming a warrior, and Ravenwing is immeasurably grateful that Whitecloud was there to help him every step of the way.
Lionface and Greypaw: Discussed this here!
Bluestar and Firepaw: Well... we did see how that went from a first-person perspective. What Fireheart wasn't in the right head to see was that Bluestar had quite a bit of anxiety about him - she was very worried that she'd made a mistake and couldn't put her money where her mouth was to raise this very un-ThunderClan cat into a proper ThunderClan warrior. It took her a bit, as it took everyone else, to realize that Firepaw was going to be a perfectly fine warrior, but there was no way she could force him to be anywhere near as aggressive and distant as ThunderClan is famous for. In fact, more than anything, he seemed to be encouraging the younger cats to be as soft as he is! Bluestar had no idea where that was going, but despite her nervousness about it, she couldn't help but be interested in seeing where this little guy was going to go next.

Sorry if this is invasive in any way, but I host a queer library at my university and noticed we do not have many authors of colour hosted in our collection. I enjoy sci fi and would like to put more of it into our collection, but I'd really like for some amount of it to feature authors of colour. I know Samuel Delany is a good author for this, but I was wondering about any beyond this.
I'd love to connect more people to works by people of colour, and I think it is a genuine necessity for our library to do so to be worth maintaining. Would you have any recommendations? Thank you.
Not invasive at all! I definitely do have some recommendations for books by BIPOC + queer spec fic authors, but they're mostly fantasy. Hope that's okay--if anyone has any queer BIPOC sci-fi books to add, please do so! (There'll be a lot of overlap with my earlier post.)
Anything by Octavia Butler. My personal favorites are Dawn, The Parable of the Sower, and her short fiction collection, Bloodchild and Other Stories (sci-fi)
An Unkindness of Ghosts by Rivers Solomon (sci-fi)
The Radiant Emperor duology by Shelley Parker-Chan (fantasy)
The Vanished Birds by Simon Jimenez (fantasy)
The Empress of Salt and Fortune by Nghi Vo (fantasy)
Fireheart Tiger by Aliette de Bodard, who also writes absolutely wonderful short fiction (fantasy)
The Tiger’s Daughter by K. Arsenault Rivera (fantasy)
The Unbroken by C.L. Clark (fantasy)
The Jasmine Throne by Tasha Suri (fantasy)

firestar and leafpools father daughter relationship isnt talked about nearly enough on that note
I think about it so often! They make so many remarks about legacy but refuse to hold onto the FAMILY that a legacy should entail! Bad writers! Smack smack!
Leafpool and Firestar - Familial Relationship
In WCR, they have a much more fleshed out relationship.
First thing Fire notices about his newly born daughter when he and Sandstorm (and Smudge and Scourge) get back to Thunderclan is that she looks a hell of a lot like his sister, Princess! Firestar almost came up with a name in inspiration of her, but decided to stick with Leafstar, as while he could not inform his cats of Skyclan, he could at least hope that some of Leafstar's nobility and grace would invoke into his daughter.
Well, he got the noble part right, at first. Little Leafkit was clumsy and a bit uncoordinated. She would rather learn about herbs than practicing pouncing and bounding through the forest like Squirrelkit could.
Firestar has learned from his past attitude and encouraged his daughter to follow her heart. Though... Please talk to me or your mom or aunty Cinderpelt before you taste-test plants you find. Please.
Leafkit grew into Leafpaw, and finally developed that grace! Firestar was so proud of her, to the point of embarrassing her by accident. Yowling across camp "BE SAFE! BE GOOD! I LOVE YOU LEAFPAW!" When she would go for Medicine Cat meetings. She got over it quickly when she heard Cinderpelt speak about her own father, Cricketfang, and how she missed him.
"I LOVE YOU TOO DAD!"
Things begin to get... Difficult, once the destruction of White Hart Woods begins. In WCR, Leafpaw is the cat who gets the message to go on the Road Trip, and Squirrelpaw, ever at her side, joins too. (Along with Shrewpaw) The 2 sisters leave together under the cover of night alongside Crowpaw and Cranberrypaw of Windclan, Tawnypelt and Smokepaw of Shadowclan, and Feathertail and Stormfur of Riverclan.
It is, hands down, one of the worst times in Firestar's life. The forest is being destroyed and BOTH his kids are missing. All he can think is that the Clans are going to go through what Old Skyclan went through, and his daughters are missing.
When they came back, he was terrified and filled with sorrow. The destruction was in full-swing, and his children had come back speaking about a lake, leaving, going through a mountain... He believed them, but it was so strange, following his daughters into territory unknown... They were so grown-up.
While Squirrelpaw was reckless and a troublemaker, Leafpaw was a the good one, the quieter one, the one you didn't need to worry too much about. He didn't entirely like how Brambleclaw acted towards his daughter, but he never suspected that Leafpaw and Crowpaw's funny little friendship was anything more than that.
When she left again, with Crowfeather, he was... Sad. But not upset with her. The kind of sad you feel when you know your child has grown up enough to not need you the way they used to. It seemed like such a short while ago Leafkit was calling put for her daddy to sleep in the nursery with them tonight because the gentle rain outside was too scary...
But also sad because she'd never told him. He would have accepted it in a heartbeat, moreso than Brambleclaw and Squirrelflight.
He was overjoyed when she came back, but confused when Crowfeather was not with her. During Leafpool's Wish, he tries to give her some comfort. It's okay, honey, sometimes things don't work out.
She's so distracted with her pregnancy that she just nods along. She feels like she doesn't want to burden her father with anything more, what with Thunderclan still recovering from The Boar Attack, including Cinderpelt's death.
She never told him the truth about The Three. But Firestar wasn't stupid. The shape of Jaykit's ears and the stripes on his pelt, Lionkit's eye colour, and Hollykit's voice... He knew they were hers, and putting the 2 puzzle pieces together for their father was not hard. He's come a long way as an orange cat.
Like Shrewfeather though, he assumed it was out of a kindness. Maybe Squirrelflight couldn't have kits of her own, and sweet Leafpool had acted as a surrogate with Crowfeather to provide kits for them. He felt that he shouldn't pry.
Leafpool felt so guilty at not telling her mother and father about things, especially with how close they were to The Three. When the secret came out, she quietly walked into Firestar and Sandstorm's den afterwards and cried to them. They understood and weren't mad in the slightest.
When the secret came out, Firestar was hesitant to punish Leafpool, she'd been through enough... He didn't want to punish his own daughter but when whispers of blood clotting were beginning to start, he had to do something. He wasn't going Onestar's route, when Onestar denamed him into Crowpaw.
He still demotes her, but it's more a formality. She broke a vow about her Starclan connection but let's not prevent cats from getting medical treatment if they need it, okay? He has her go through some Hunter training with her aunt, Lightflower (Princess) but talks in Thunderclan have begun regarding an alternate permanent position for cats that aren't Medicine cats but cannot hunt. In the mean time, she takes up odd jobs all around Thunderclan and hangs around her parents.
Firestar dies protecting Leafpool and Squirrelflight, whom Tigerstar calls "abominations" and attacks during The Great Battle. Firestar dies, but the sisters escape, botb in shock and grief, only getting worse when Tjgerstar drags Firestar's seemingly lifeless body out into a clearing to show off. Leafpool will never forget her father's flaming, holy spirit rising out of his own limp body when Tigerstar least expects it, destroying him, before finally taking his rightful place in Starclan.
And the trial? Ooh, that'll be a doozy. I am going to leave this bit vague, but let's just say there's a reason Firestar still has his title of "Leader of Lionclan".
Moon Flight had better watch herself.

oooh what does Sun Firesong look like? Sickness name btw
Sun Firesong (Fireheart)
Leader of the Fall Thunderbringer Sect
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kittypet -> Apprentice -> Messenger -> Deputy -> Leader
He/him/his Cisgender kater, bisexual panromantic
Image IDs below the cut and information.
Grandparents: Crystal, Unknown Parents: Jake, Nutmeg Siblings: Princess, Henry, Tommy
Mates: Sandstorm, Grouseflight Platonic partner: Dustdapple Kits: Squirrelflight, Leafpool, Juniperpaw, Birchfall, Foxleap, Shrewbelly Grandkits: Petalblaze, Jaypatch, Hollylarch, Poppyfrost, Fernsong, Sorrelstripe, Sparkwood, Alderheart, Dandelionpelt
Mentor: Sweetberry Former Apprentice(s): Cinderberry, Whitewing, Ivystrike
So, what a guy! He's lived a very interesting life, and actually dies at the end of the Eclipse Period. He will die at the claws of Moon Tigerchaser, like his old, and first, foe passed. He is idolized heavily in the Sky Breezemoor sect and the Fall Thundebringer sect, along with the Band of Blood, post-reconstruction. Firesong took Sandstorm as a mate a bit after they both graduated. They are basically highschool sweethearts, and sickeningly affectionate immediately outside of apprentice-hood. Eventually, Dustdapple and Firesong do become platonic partners, but not for a while. Firesong develops a crush on Grouseflight once Tigerchaser is exiled. Sandstorm was the one to court Grouseflight first, and then followed Firesong. They, all three of them, officially became a polycule once the Final Battle of the Forests is over, and upon the realization that Sandstorm is pregnant. Dustdapple is only in a QPR with Grouseflight and Sun Firesong, as he is Sandstorm's cousin.
Personal Comments:
I'm very proud of how his design turned out. I was mulling it over for the past hour before I got this ask, and it pushed me to finalize it. Thank you, I needed this lol
Because he is partially Abyssinian through Jake, he is genetically a black cat. This means all his bio-kits should be torties! Very interesting, and I'm excited to play with his genetic traits that'll show through his kittens.
I basically speedran this, the art took way less than I thought it would!
Yeah, he also will have autism and social anxiety. It will affect a lot of his adjusting period into the sects and his entire growth as a character.

[ Image ID - An image of Sun Firesong from the Wildfire Rewrite, who in canon Warriors is known as Fireheart. He is a round and plump cat with a ruddy orange pelt and a cream underbelly. He has green eyes and thick fur. He looks at the camera, giving the viewer a clear shot of his pelt. It's pattern is distinctly similar to the cat breed Abyssinian and it's pelt. End ID ]
[ Image ID - The same image as above, but with accessories. Earrings made of painted wood are pierced into his upper ear. A thick leather and woolen coat is covering his lower back, kept on by a loop of leather that holds two brown bags. Two necklaces are wound around his neck. One has two stones, one stone gray and one stone painted green, and the other necklace has a part of his old collar. On his front left paw there are two bracelets. One is a piece of scrap vine, and the other is a bead bracelet painted in a pattern of colors. End ID ]

i literally just found your account and your au is so cool ??? would love to hear more about it ^^
Thank you!
I've got two AUs so this depends on which one you mean, they're both equally neglected :')
Tumblr media
The first one is my Scorchedclaw AU, in which Firestar is born as a she-cat to Yellowfang and Jake. She is Brokenstar's half-sister but the timeline is pushed a bit back and Brokenstar takes over Shadowclan early, in this AU he doesn't exile Yellowfang but she leaves on her own after she sees what a tyrant he becomes. She seeks refuge in Thunderclan who strips her of her medicine cat rank once she reveals she's carrying kits but lets her stay. Scorched is born in Thunderclan and as far as everyone is aware she's a clan born so she's not as much of an outcast as Firestar was but she is still kind of isolated by some cats. The prophecy is a bit different too and there's actually another besides 'the fire will save our clan' that involves Brokenstar and Scorched. He was Yellowfang's first punishment for breaking the code, her second punishment is the prophecy that one of her kits will end up killing the other.
She wants Scorched to be ready so Tigerclaw becomes her mentor, honestly the whole AU is still kind of underdeveloped.
My second AU is even more underdeveloped. In here everything's the same except Jake had a sister named Maple. She used to be a kittypet like him but like Firepaw she was drawn to the wilderness. Unlike him tho, she never joined a clan so she lived most of her life as a loner, because of that she's very attached to her family and used to frequently visit Jake's kits. Once Firepaw leaves to join Thunderclan both Maple and Nutmeg are concerned about him so Maple goes to look. She finds Thunderclan to make sure that he is alright but Bluestar offers her to join too.
At this point Firepaw is just an apprentice and hasn't done anything noteworthy, he and Maple are similar in appearance so Bluestar starts to wonder if the prophecy could be about her instead of him. Maple is also ginger but she is easily the biggest cat in Thunderclan, maybe in all the clans, because of her Maine coon genes, and with the whole war with Riverclan over sunning rocks going on Bluestar can't waste the opportunity. Maple wants to look after her nephew, especially since he is leading the most dangerous life out of all his siblings so she decides to stay, partially because she also likes the idea of stability that comes along with having a clan.
Maple and Firepaw are the two protagonists of this AU but I'm still thinking of how they'd be interfering with plot. I'm honestly doing this mainly for my own entertainment

What's your genetic HCs for Firestar's family? (Nutmeg+Jake, Firestar+Sandstorm, Leafpool+Squirrelflight, Leafpool's kits and maybe Princess and her kits too? i have no clue about anything that happened past OOTS haha but if you have any HC's for those too I'd love to hear :3)
Tumblr media
Dealing with this family, my starting point was to keep Fireheart orange. It seemed important. I gave him ticked pattern, to be as orange as possible.
Tumblr media
This means Nutmeg, Squirrelflight and Leafpool all have that very same orange allele Fireheart carries. No problem with Squirrelflight, but Nutmeg and Leafpool are supposed to be brown tabbies. Solution: they are torties now! (There's another Nutmeg, a tortoiseshell-and-white rogue in the books, and as far as I remember, there's nothing else but the color suggesting that they are in fact different Nutmegs. So this way they can be combined into one single tortoiseshell-tabby-and-white Nutmeg.)
Tumblr media
So now we have a red Squirrelflight and a tortie Leafpool. What does that say about Sandstorm? She gave a red allele to Squirrelflight and a black one to Leafpool. Ergo, tortie. (Actually I really like dilute tortie Sandstorm. It seems fitting to the name.) And Leafpool has white spotting that had to come from somewhere, so let's give that to Sandstorm too.
Tumblr media
Tortie Leafpool has another big advantage: her kits all work out without any further changes. Red allele goes to Lionblaze, black to Jayfeather and Hollyleaf. Great.
Princess: if we want red Jake (and why wouldn't we) then she needs to be tortie too. I like this, because I've always assumed Leafpool was modelled after her, so keeping them the same color is nice. Her only "canon" kit is Cloudtail, who is full white (but in my head he's masking black silver tabby or maybe black smoke).
I have headcanons for the next generations too, but maybe it'd be too long to list all of them, so i'll only add Squirrelflight's kits for now: Alderheart is very correctly red, but Sparkpelt had to get the black allele from Brambleclaw, so she'll be tortie. (Again, I think it goes well with the name.)
Tumblr media
Jake: red ticked tabby
Nutmeg, Princess, Leafpool: black tortoiseshell mackerel tabby with white
Fireheart, Squirrelflight, Alderheart: red (ticked)
Sandstorm: blue tortoiseshell spotted tabby with white
Cloudtail: white
Hollyleaf: black
Jayfeather: blue mackerel tabby
Lionblaze: red silver spotted tabby
Sparkpelt: black tortoiseshell
(warrior cats genetics ask game)
