Caiti tries to do a portrait of Beau "for posterity". Beau has other ideas.
[Text reads, "Please don't make that pose."]
(Drawn for @asktheghosthost yesterday, which I tried to send through private messages, but couldn't do because the file was too damn big. So it's going here instead, where you can all look at it.)
#milo's art#asktheghosthost#haunted mansion#this is absolutely not polished but that doesn't matter because it's a shitpost

Where exactly is the "rest" of Leota (her body)?
"It's located six feet under her tombstone, give or take a few centimeters. What is inside her crystal ball isn't her physical cranium, but her spirit. Her situation is... complicated, but she swears she's happy with her domed domicile, and I trust she's being truthful."

"Hmm... I'm not so sure you should play with that cat your mother brought home, Miss Erika. Something sinister is afoot-- or rather, a paw-- with that feline..."
“Oh you have no need to worry! I am simply bringing the little one to the kitchen for some food- Do you suppose we’d have some extra chicken or tuna to feed them?
Erika spoke with a gentle laugh, happily holding the relatively unbothered, one eyed feline in her arms, holding it on the opposite side of her beating heart least the sound be too much on the smaller creature’s ears.
“And besides, I am sure mother wouldn’t bring a malevolent creature home with her…….right?”
For a moment she hesitated- after all, it wasn’t often Beau gave a warning like that. Perhaps it was worth heeding, her footsteps reaching a halt, though her fingers still gently caressed the cat’s fur.
“You’re starting to concern me a little bit-“

For fic ask, peach! And any crossover ideas you'd like to pursue?
Thank you!
🍑 - I've joked about this before, but crossing The Haunted Mansion with something like Peter Pan (or its adjacent Disney Fairies line) would be hilarious by virtue of Randall's extreme fear of the Fae. To him, there is nothing whimsical about the Darling children being spirited away to Neverland by Pan and Tink, that is his worst nightmare (both as a child and as an adult), and so being confronted with any of the Neverland denizens would be hysterical because Randall would be having none of it. He's got a cannister of salt in one hand and a piece of iron in the other, and he's ready to ask the Fair Folk to leave!
(Also, since I've fan-casted Randall's maternal grandfather August Burke with Hans Conried, the original voice and model for Captain Hook, that adds another humorous layer to the crossover!)
And, of course, that doesn't even get into all the AU ideas I've been cooking up; not strictly crossovers, but defidently mixing The Haunted Mansion with other franchises to create a new story. @beatingheart-bride and I have been discussing future AUs centering around werewolves and mummies, just to name a few, but one I haven't run by her yet is one inspired by Sleepy Hollow, specifically Tim Burton's film: An Emily in the crosshairs of a villain using a Dullahan-like Randall to do their dirty work (with the added wrinkle of that Dullahan falling in love with his target), I think, has the potential to be a really exciting AU!

Because I enjoy drawing on myself a lot, here’s a tattoo for @asktheghosthost, and a little thing for the Mansion cast:
Back at the beginning of this year, me and my (stupid) boyfriend Grayson went to the Haunted Mansion in California, I enjoyed the entire thing because I like that stuff, but first: Phineas you sat on Grayson at the end of the ride, Hatty, you made Grayson grab my arm tight (which I found more funny), and Ghost Host, you did smash Grayson’s fingers with the safety bar on our doom buggy. Also can you tell me where my little DeLorean went? I kinda lost it when Hatty scared Grayson.
P.S did Phineas hear my little secret when he sat on Grayson? If not, it’s that I have a crush on a certain McFly…if you wanna take a guess, go ahead. He’s 17, his best friend made a Time Machine, and one more hint, he is 5’2.

@asktheghosthost DUCKS AND MORE DUCKS
For a being whose heart had rotted a hundred years, give or take, he seemed rather affectionate towards his newly received friends. The ducks however? Not so much, but that didn't matter. Animals had odd ways of reacting, it seemed. "Ah, well, I gave it a good go either way. I'm not easily frightened as ya can probably tell, I mean I'm givin' a ghost ducks after all. I'm the braver of the two of us--not to say my sister isn't brave." The young man didn't know if The Ghost Host knew who he was referring to or an explanation was required. It wasn't like he wouldn't provide one.
Either way, there was amusement of his own. "I'd prefer coffee if ya have it, otherwise tea is just fine."

What Disney thinks we want: More pretty princesses for the girls, more superheros for the boys
What we really want:
@asktheghosthost
Ok so fun story: when I first got into S.E.A, I had the idea for three organizations for three branches of the Disney nerd tree.
The first would be S.E.A (Society of Explorers and Adventerers), which is based on the Adventure genre; world explorers, archeologists, zoologists, palentologists, etc. This would include the already established members of S.E.A, Indiana Jones, the Atlantis crew, the Frontierland characters, and Adventureland characters
The second would be S.T.A.R (Science, Technology and Alien Research), which is based on the Sci-Fi genre. They would have an aliance with the alien counsel from Lilo and Stitch and consist of astromoner, time travelers, dimensional travelers (which is how we get Marvel, Star Wars, and Treasure Planet together), inventors, scientists, aliens, and geniuses like Wade (from Kim Possible), as well as Tomorrowland characters
The third, and my favourite, is OoO (Organisation Of Oddities). This is the extra weird stuff that isn't quite Adventure or Sci-Fi, but also features intelegent individuals that research the kind of stuff you would find in a fantasy and/or horror story. This includes oddologists like Stanford Pines, Dreamfinder, and those connected to the supernatural like the Ghost Relations Department and The Museum Of Weird. Basically this is the Warehouse 13 of Disney.
The nice thing about this system is that you can have members that belong to or have interacted with multiple groups. For example you could have someone from S.E.A looking into the history of the various towns around Big Thunder Mountain working with someone from OoO investigating the supernatural legends of The Thunderbird and Phantom Manor.

My body is not a temple, it's the original Disneyland Haunted Mansion.
Because just like it I'm well-groomed and normal looking from the outside, but inside I'm filled with spooky, macabre fun.

//For the fic writers fruit emoji game!
🍐 🍑 🍍 🫐 \\
Pear: So there's this habit in official, licensed Disney approved products of making the ghosts helpless background characters in what should be their story. I'm more forgiving of this in the video game because A: Nostalgia, II) Zeke is at least a character from the ride, and Tres- Madame Leota is with you the whole time and a lot of the ghosts are helpful. The book The Haunted Mansion: Storm and Shade is the worst offender of this, where the ghosts decide to literally not do anything except dance in the ballroom when they're threatened by a supernatural force they don't think they can fight. I get the use of a mortal protagonist as a stand-in for the reader, or thinking a modern audience wants a modern character to connect to, but at least let these characters be characters, instead of transparent furniture.
So because of this, I like giving the ghosts some fun antagonists from time to time. Usually, it's the One Eyed Black Cat from the old scripts and concept art. I may also fling some of my own creations at them, like Skaggz the grim reaper, who is friend or foe, depending on the day. Or the malicious, wraith-like Undertakers, a band of inky shadow men who work for a yet unnamed boss who feeds on spirits' anguish and rage. The nastiest of the villains is Dr. Dearnons, the head physician at the Acropolis Asylum, where Beau was forced to undergo treatment as a teen. Along with him are undead nurses and orderlies who, in life, had gone along with his abuse and reveled in it. His evil has taken him past mere ghost, and he's more of a demon in shape.
I just can't see how a crew of nearly a thousand, which includes witches, psychics, shape shifters, gun nuts, hatchet wielding serial killers, and a massive home that warps reality, would give up so easily, or be so helpless.
Peach: connection between your favorite character and another work
When working with the idea that this takes place in the theme parks, I love giving the ghosts friends from Disney attractions. I headcanon that Beau has a great friendship with Ariel in particular, and is a trusted confidant to Cinderella. Dorian and Rapunzel hang out on a regular basis. Figment is also a close buddy to the ghosts. There's a friendly rivalry with the pirates that's like an immature turf war. And everyone stays away from the small world dolls. Their sun god may or may not eat souls.
I've wanted to write crossovers with The Princess and the Frog and Atlantis: The Lost Empire. I just never seen to get beyond the initial idea. A mutual had once suggested young Tiana and Charlotte coming across the house one Halloween, and that's such an adorable idea, and I never get beyond a paragraph with it. With the Atlantis idea, it was just this thought that Dorian contacted Milo about information on Atlantis. This would be days before he's found by Helga and Whitmore. Dorian, who is growing older and fearful of aging, is almost frantic about pursuing the Heart as a way to achieve immortality. The house and the meeting freaks Milo out, and he very wisely skeedaddles.
I've rarely shown Dorian's work as an attorney when he was alive, but I've always had this joke in the back of my mind that his legal clerk is Bartleby the Scrivener from the same named short story by Herman Melville. Dorian losing his mind over an employee constantly replying, "I would prefer not to," at every request is just really funny to me. Bartleby is a mood.
Oh, and an Incredible Hulk crossover. Have wanted to do that for years.
Pineapple: AUs you like and/or have beef with
I've dabbled with high school and college AUs, and just modern, living AUs in general. Teen/ young adult versions of these characters can be really fun to write. It's just rare that it gets beyond the basic concept. I've found they become character studies rather than a plot heavy story. It's really dependent on my writing partner, and how much fun we have bouncing back and forth with the interactions.
I'm pretty much open to playing with any AU idea, but I can't promise I'm good at it.
Berries: favorite underrated thing in your fandom
I love how open people are about sharing their character interpretations. People tend to just have fun with it, even going so far as to rp the same characters together in a thread, but just state they're from an alternate dimension, which makes total sense in a house where any door can lead to anywhere in the universe. There have been multiple instances I've read or been a part of where a ghost met their "twin."

"If that cat is back..." Beau narrowed his eyes and lowered his voice. "We have a problem."
"We have a major problem," Randall confirmed darkly, keeping his own voice low as he continued, "The Cat is back, and I don't think he's all that keen on going anywhere anytime soon...I don't want to jump the gun and say he's planning something, but...something's afoot, Beau, I can't help but think it."
