It's so interesting to me how Chade judges Patience in Assassin's Apprentice, saying that she would have made a "very poor" queen because she valued her privacy, or thinking her less bright than the other potential brides because her thoughts flit from one topic to the next, and because she speaks her mind honestly. Of course, Chade is disavowed from these notions later during the Red Ship War, but I'd say Patience's potential is already visible on the very first pages. She values her privacy, so she can move through the keep without gossip following her and goes where she pleases without fuss, something Chade's assassin mind should appreciate and which also speaks to Patience's pragmatism. And rather than weak-minded, she stands up to Shrewd demanding Fitz's recognition as heir and the fitting education for one, not budging until Shrewd at least compromises with her. Similalry, she never once changed. Eccentric from childhood on, she did not waver, always being unapologetically herself. Patience does not bend to the opinions of others. If that is not the behaviour of somebody bound for greatness than I dont know what is.

So I recently got into the Realm Of The Elderings aka ROTE and I AM OBSESSED! I am absolutely in love with the storytelling and character writing so I had to do a fanart of my fave characters so far~ This is how I imagined them in the first book! I have just started reading the second now!

fitz saying to hap "you're as close to a son as i'm ever likely to get" makes me crazy. because fitz has a son!!! dutiful is his biological son, who has his looks and his magic, who only exists because fitz is alive. but in fitz's mind dutiful isn't his son --- dutiful is the prince. dutiful is verity's son. dutiful is this boy he's never met. no, hap is the closest he'll ever get to a son. an orphan he spent ten lonely years clumsily attempting to raise. this kid who doesn't look like him, doesn't have his magic, doesn't come from his body. as close as fitz will ever get to a son. a silent confession that burrich was as close as fitz will ever get to a father.
