I got an art table! Unboxing and assmebly
I've been meaning to post about this for a while. Earlier in March, I used my first full paycheck and spoiled myself. I've been meaning to buy myself an art/draft table for years, but I stopped myself for a lot of reasons.
1) no spare money
2) no space
3) artist burn out (or it could be adhd/autistic burn out)
But now that I have the first two, I'm creating my own little space of paradise. I'm still kinda having the art burn out, but I'm trying to work through it. I've had it since I was in my early 20s, I think.

I bought this from Michael's through their online store. The in-store price was $200 USD (I put the usd for anyone outside of the united states) but since I made an account and bought it online to pick up, I was actually able to knock roughly 70-100 usd off of it with discounts :). I did buy a warranty cuz the thing is made of tempered glass, so it came to just over 100 usd with taxes.

These are all of the pieces that came in the box. If you squint, you'll see the glass leaning against the curtain. Now, due to my age, out of shape, limited time at home, cuz work, and only having kiddo to help me assemble it, it actually took a few days to assemble bit by bit. Kiddo likes to do art too, so maybe I'll buy him his own art table for his birthday in the near future. (I'll happily share my food with you, but my stuff? Not quite so much, trust must be earned)
This is what we managed to assemble together the first night.

We didn't get too far since there were a lot of screws and making sure nothing was lopsided.
This was night 2

Bonus shot of a kiddo.
Third night was a day of rest. I wasn't feeling well.
4th night, we completed it. I installed the glass part myself since it was very heavy.

{After finally starting to use it this month in April. this post was started in march)
Right now I'm kinda using it as a normal desk. The storage containers underneath I took out two pins so I can make them more like drawers I can pull. The little sliding table on the side isn't bad. I put my drink and a snack there. I initially put my laptop there, but it felt kinda weird so it's on the glass part directly for now.
I have used the gear thingy to adjust the angle of the glass table. It's a bit troublesome to get to and adjust. I'm thinking about adding some wheels at the bottom of the legs so I can move it around easier. It's never easy moving heavy stuff across carpet.
I'm not quite used to having an art table rather than a desk but I'm sure I'll get used to it. Otherwise, kiddo said he would love one so if he likes this one enough, I'll let him have it.

Assembly Required
I might have gone a little crazy. I attribute this to not having to work at a regular job anymore with its demands, reports, meetings, and seemingly endless list of things to do. I am now able to turn my attention to the stuff of ordinary living. You know, like a roof over my head, a bed to sleep in, and the maintenance that a century-old house requires. Last November I wrote about my move from…

"Music is a powerful tool. In an instant, it can change your mood, your perspective, or your life," Stacey Abrams says on her Crooked Media podcast, Assembly Required, introducing her conversation with Rhiannon Giddens. "No matter the motivation, music is an outlet, a force that builds us up or keeps us steady. It holds the capacity to move millions and to resonate with each individual, and every lyric, every note, every beat has the potential to share a message." You can hear their conversation here.

I know some people hate on giving Vi a last name in fics and think most of the choices are corny but I just saw a fic that had her last name as Vanderwick and I think everyone needs to bring back whimsy. Let her have something before taking her wife’s last name for real
