embodiment of pure suffering disguised as an engineer: okay so for our assorted sliced deli meat products i think we should have them in plastic tupperware but also additionally wrapped in plastic so it's extra wasteful. and we'll cut the meat so fucking thin, like thinner than is practical using those ordinary deli meat slicer things, we'll need to invent entirely new meat slicing technology, and then weave the slices into a dense sawtooth pattern that makes it fucking impossible for the consumer to ever get a single slice out at a time. they'll try to pull it apart but it'll just shred to tiny pieces and rip apart like two or three adjacent slices too

Assorted FrUK/FACE Fam Headcanons

These are silly little thoughts I've had while drafting Migraines in Margaritaville, so these apply to the world of that AU (modern, human; FrUK parents raising NA bros in Massachusetts, US). Most of these involve food because I seem to think about them when I'm hungry???

• Francis and Arthur practice "one-parent-one-language" with the boys. Matthew took to French much easier than Alfred did, but both brothers managed to pick it up without much of a fuss. In elementary school the twins would use French to cheat on tests (they weren't allowed to sit next to each other after their schemes were discovered).

• Arthur set the grill on fire three times in one summer. Francis clearly doesn't learn from his mistakes and Arthur is too stubborn to let Francis do all of the work when it comes to preparing dinner.

• Follow up on the point above -- Arthur can prep vegetables and throw together food that doesn't require too much measuring or too many steps on the stovetop. He doesn't have the patience for most dishes and doesn't have a sense of what spices go well together/what is enough vs too much. Francis lets him help by chopping up vegetables and Arthur was usually the one to pack the boys' lunches. Sometimes they'd get leftover portions of whatever they had for dinner last night, but Arthur often defaulted to some sort of wrap with deli meat and assorted veggies/crackers for snack.

• Francis gives me similar vibes to those youtube moms who try to make homemade versions of popular American snacks. He may spend the weekdays at work in a kitchen, but on the weekends he's at home, still in the kitchen, trying to make homemade fruit leather and homemade cheese crackers for his sons.

• Arthur's the one more willing to let the boys get snacks from the store or take out. Francis is very much "we have McDonald's at home."

• Both Francis and Arthur would've been so excited to decorate the twins' nursery. They're both artistically inclined, be it in different ways. Arthur made blankets for both of them; Matthew is red and Alfred is blue. Francis paints floral designs on the furniture, in particular purple irises and both red and white roses.

• Because the twins were identical and because babies are kinda just blobs, they definitely accidentally mixed the twins up. The color coding might've come after the swap. They had a crisis about it. Francis "sacre bleu, we just gave two people permanent identity crises" Bonnefoy and Arthur "if we compare them to every picture we have of them we can figure it out" Kirkland. I'm imagining this happening before the twins have enough hair for their cowlicks to really form.

• It's tradition in the Kirkland-Bonnefoy household to have a box of Whitman's chocolates at every family party and Alfred is the reason why. One Christmas each twin got to pick out something special for the party and Alfred picked out the 22 piece Whitman sampler in the yellow box. They're not the best chocolates, but it became a tradition. Thankfully there's two layers in the box so Mattie and Al can have their own messenger boy pieces (the shaped chocolate that's the centerpiece of each layer).

• Neither Arthur or Francis have favor for one twin over the other. They both have their own activities they can do with Alfred and Matthew separately. Francis will cook and bake with Alfred and draw with Matthew. Arthur teaches Matthew to garden and watches old (by his son's standards) movies with Alfred.

• Francis is the parent the boys can come to no questions asked. Arthur isn't apathetic, but Francis is more inclined to give more thoughtful advice for relationships and general fuck-ups. He won't press on why or how something happened, but will help his sons figure out the best way to solve a problem.

• When Alfred and Mattie turned 10, Arthur wanted to teach them the importance of personal finance. He would give the boys $5 each week to spend on snacks at the grocery store (Arthur does the couponing and the shopping for the house). They were allowed to hold onto the money to use for later and could help with the couponing.

• Arthur drags the family out to Salem every Autumn. Sure, they live in Massachusetts and are well aware of how bad tourist season is, but he's fascinated with the city. Alfred initially went because he really liked this one New York style pizza shop in the Witch City Mall (how they got Francis to step foot in there, I don't know), but eventually grew interested in the witchy stuff Salem has to offer. Francis only puts up with it because the city has an art museum and weekly art fairs in the Fall. Matthew dreads their yearly trip. He loathes it. He'd rather tag along with Francis to the museum.

• Until the boys were old enough to start protesting, they had family Halloween costumes. Francis thought it was tacky, but saw the appeal when Arthur got the twins (still babies) all dressed up in lobster costumes.

sakusa kiyoomi didn’t particularly understand when, last night, you had asked if he wanted to visit the newly-opened grocery store a few blocks away. puzzled, he reminded you that just last week, the two of you had done your monthly shopping in the supermarket you usually frequent and there’s nothing left to check off your list. it’s a different grocery chain, you had insisted, and therefore, will probably have different stuff. it finally clicked in his brain that you’re not interested in going with the intent of purchasing anything, but rather to go sightseeing, and he finally agrees to accompany you, noting the beam that instantly appears on your face when he does so.

how silly of them to be so excited over visiting a grocery store, he thinks to himself, features softening into a small, affectionate smile as he watches you bury yourself under the covers, seemingly satisfied with yourself as if you’ve completed a quest.

i love them so much.

and thus, this morning, you’re both walking hand-in hand from your shared apartment to the new store you can’t stop enthusing over, the mini expedition filled with conversation. he tells you about his upcoming matches, how he’s fairly confident in the Black Jackals’ ability to score a win, and recounts the comical antics of his teammates from their previous practice he had kept in mind because he thinks you’d enjoy the story (you did). in return, you tell him about the recent milestones you secure in your projects, a new book that piqued your interest after your friend had recommended it (sakusa makes sure to remember the title), and a possible family dinner in the next month that your parents would love for him to join.

10 minutes later, you and kiyoomi are already standing by the automatic sliding-glass doors of the store. it definitely has a different vibe than the usual supermarket, he’ll give it that. when you first step in, you’re greeted with the delicious smell of freshly-baked pastries from the artisanal bakery right at the front floor of the store. the air-conditioned indoors is a more-than-welcome change from the outside, providing relief from the humid summer heat. instead of the regular harsh fluorescent lights on the ceiling and the white-painted walls that seem to highlight everything on the shelves, the interior is darker, with both the walls and the floor in a complementing shade of dark grey. the lights are warmer and positioned right above shelves almost as tall as kiyoomi, perfectly distanced to provide an adequate but not overwhelming amount of lighting, while the sides and backed are reserved for refrigerators and freezers, showcasing produce, dairy products, and fresh meat and seafood. from where you’re standing, you can even make out what seems like a small deli near the cashier stations, advertising a selection of cuisines and delicacies.

it’s definitely not your usual supermarket.

even kiyoomi is taken aback, as the both of you momentarily still after you enter the store, admiring the modern interior that clearly, neither of you were expecting.

he takes a glance at you, amused at the way you’re looking around wide-eyed in wonder. he’s reminded of one of the reasons he loves you — the way you’re able to appreciate the little things, whether it be the aesthetically-pleasing assortment of goods on the shelves of an unfamiliar grocery store or the constellation of freckles that splay across his skin, once upon a time being an ugly source of insecurity until you start leaving soft, shy kisses all over them during nights when you hold each other close under the covers. the way you fuss and pout when the bouquet of flowers he gifts you start to wilt, despite knowing he buys one for you every week, anyway. the way the umeboshi that you make for him and pack into his lunchbox always has the right balance of sweet, salty and sour. the way you can’t meet his eyes for a second, loopy smile on your lips, right after he kisses you. the way he thought you would only be a temporary stop in his journey when you’d first met, only to find himself wanting to stay longer and longer by your side until he can’t even think of leaving.

kiyoomi nudges your side to grab your attention, silently snickering when you slightly stumble and narrow your eyes at him. his hand reaches out to find yours, heart fluttering when you immediately slot your fingers in between his, and he begins to lead you through the aisles.

“come on,” he smiles at you, giving your hand a gentle squeeze, “looks like we have a lot of sightseeing to do today.”

Prompt #10 - Charcuterie

It was the last night before deployment. Reports of the Garleans moving their amassed army to invade Eorzea, Grand Companies were mobilizing to meet them in an all out battle to repel them.

Sen's orders were to remain, reserved for the next wave of deployment to refresh the front lines if...they weren't completely wiped out. The tension was palatable across the barracks as soldiers and officers alike moved as bees humming with purpose.

Amidst the preparation there were small slices of visitation, chances to say goodbye to families and loved ones.

Sen was busy with a far more important task, preparing to say goodbye to her girlfriend.

In her arms she carried an assortment of deli meats, lettuce, pickles, and sauces. A borrowed wooden cutting board was under her arm. Sen knew she loved tiny things (like herself!) and wanted to make a romantic snack to share for the evening. In her back pocket she had written all her feelings out, besides a scant imitation of charcuterie, her plans were to have her mouth fully occupied otherwise.

All plans were dashed at the sight of her mounting her chocobo with the rest of her platoon. The conjurer gasped, the jars of pickles smashed to the ground, a clatter of the cutting board. She took off at a dash, shouts of her leaving her mess behind.

"Wait! Rosie!"

A helmeted highlander twisted about at the sound of her name then saw who was calling for her. Rosie quickly removed her helmet, her deep raven hair pulled into a tight bun, swinging her leg over her saddle to run and meet Sen.

"I was looking everywhere for you!" She scooped Sen up in a massive hug, even in full armour, giving her a small spin before putting her back down.

"I thought you were leaving tomorrow morning- what changed, how much time do you have, Althyk keep-! I almost missed you!" Sen cried, watery eyes staring up at her. "Were you really going to leave without saying goodbye?"

Those amber eyes glistened, she removed her gauntlet and pressed her bare palm to Sen's cheek. "No, of course not, I tried- you-" She looks behind the raen and sees the pile of food, realizing where Sen had been. She chuckles, affectionately rubbing a thumb to brush away a tear. "What in seven hells were you doing?"

Sen spied a look behind herself, regaining her composure swiping a sleeve under her nose. "Just- was going to make us a snack, take you in for a romantic evening." She chuckled herself, sadly, sniffling.

Rosie looked left and right, then whispered conspiratorially. "We don't leave for another half bell."

Snapping to it, Rosie took Sen's hand and they ran off together to one of their many many hiding spots for good proper fraternization. In a whirlwind, Sen helped Rosie out of her armour, they were specially practised.

Sen's hands shook, even in the heated pressing of bodies, hungry desperate kisses. The moments ticked in her head, this wasn't how she wanted say goodbye. They were supposed to have time, they were supposed to do this once, twice, thrice as many times as they wanted.

As their highs built so to did a ball of emotion, they were supposed to cuddle underneath a tangle of sheets at the break of dawn.

Burying her wet cheeks into the crook of Rosie's neck, her arms wrapped around her shoulders in a vice like grip. Not yet!

A little time later...

Snap! One pauldron secured and then another. They were both dressed once again, their time was up.

A dull thud of Sen's forehead against Rosie's back.

"I'll be back, Sen. You know I will." Rosie says.

"I didn't know you were also a prophet."

"Sen..."

"I'll pray for you." She says, quietly. Then pressing a letter into her hands. "Read it when you're on the road."

"I will." She promises.

"Give them hell."

It’s one of my coworkers last day at our location so my manager used her corp card to get us lunch and the shit. Just sucks man. Like. The smallest assortment of deli sandwiches from Jimmy John’s but still, if you were gonna go that route you might as well have just gotten it from smiths. Like there’s are meatier etc. Idk man

I’m raising a stink about this because there is an inside joke happening and I’ll explain

I used to work at a location with an infamous manager that I hadn’t realized was bad til I worked at my current location. This lady would get us lunch with her corp card sometimes for whatever reasons, but she would mostly buy hot dogs buns condiments etc and we’d grill them ourselves. At the time it was w/e to me but when I started here I told my manager at the time and he was like “wow that bitch is so frugal with the corp card that she would only get you HOTDOGS? what was she spending that money on then” and everytime we talk about getting group lunch here I always suggest hotdogs as a joke. My manager now even said she’d bring her crockpot in to boil them shits.

Like. They know me now that I enjoy later lunches. But when it’s group lunch day it’s best to have lunch earlier in the day. But I’m the second to last to lunch and there are like. Two of the smallest most mystery meat deli sandwiches left out of a small ass box and like two big bags of chips. Plus we had a full staffing today. What the fuck man. When the old manager bought food for us we would often have enough leftover for D A Y S. And it was always good microwave safe foods like pizza or fucking canes. Like maybe it’s different now bc he ate so much food personally so he’d order extra and my current manager doesn’t do that?? Idk.

I think I have a grounds to complain. At least jokingly say like…. Man hot dogs would have been better than that. But I’ve already gotten her shit eye for comparing her to my old manager (which to be perfectly fucking honest, yes, she said something that was word for word what my old manager would say, so sorry I said that what you said sounded like something Shat Daily would say)

But I don’t want her to think I’m ungrateful. I mean, yeah I’m not happy about those sandwiches so I guess I am ungrateful for a free meal. But what the fuck man.
