so like in order to refocus myself on my writing project of “Remake When The Night Comes as a horror mystery with romance rather than a romance with horror mystery” I started trying to redesign my chosen beloved LI Augustus Willenheim. I actually only realized the change in pose made them exactly in Valerius’ sprite pose after I’d done a bunch of work on the hand. but honestly I still don’t like it so I think I am going to have to change a bunch of other stuff too.

I think I’ve decided to treat this as a writing/character design exercise in adapting a pre-existing source material into a different genre and adapting the designs according to my own character interests. (You know my snowy canadian ass is playing up the ‘winter in the north’ aspect to the story baybeee)

If I let myself go all out while still having a source material as reference it’s a little easier to gauge my own influence a little bit. and also practice doing those things with low stakes.

August Willenheim x Male!reader

It was late at night, around midnight. I had woken up slightly to turn over and cuddle my partner, August. I reached over to put my arm around them when my arm hit the empty bed. I opened my eyes and saw that they weren’t there. I sat up and rubbed my eyes before standing from our bed

I walked out of our room and looked throughout the house for August. They weren’t in the kitchen, living room, or even their little study he had here. As I walked from empty room to empty room I knew there was only one other place they could be. Their office, swamped with work. I put on my boots and grabbed my jacket before walking outside.

It was a snowy cold night in Lunaris, not uncommon but it certainly wasn’t weather I would walk in at midnight. The wind blew as I walked to August’s office, clenching my jacket tighter to myself. I was not in proper winter gear and was ready to give August an earful for making me walk in this just to find him.

I finally arrived at their office and quickly ran inside and shut the door behind me. There was a fire going in the lobby that warmed the place. I walked down the hall to find August’s office. Low and behold, there they were, with several papers and envelopes in front of them. I entered their office and shut the door.

“Go away, I’ll get that report to you soon” They didn’t even lift their head, just waved their hand for me to leave.

“I don’t want any report, just wanted to find out why you aren’t home?” I teased them slightly. They lifted their head up and I could see them physically relax at my voice and presence.

“I apologize, my dear, I’ve been so stressed about this new problem some scouts reported that I must have lost track of time.” They say, looking back down at what they were writing. I rolled my eyes and walked behind them, resting my head on their shoulder.

“Can’t you save that for tomorrow? You need sleep August.” I try to pull they back slightly to no avail.

“I know, but I might as well finish this sooner rather than later.” I could tell they were exhausted but didn’t want to stop. So I decided to use one last trick I had up my sleeve.

“Well, as the lieutenant-general of the hunters, this work falls under my jurisdiction, which means I can say when it gets done. And right now, I say it’s getting done tomorrow.” I kiss their cheek when I’m done speaking as I hear them sigh and start standing.

“Always quick to use you’re title to get me to do what you want.” I can see a small smile on their face as I grab their hand and lead them out of the office.

As we step out in the cold I immediately regret it as I remember I’m just in pjs and a jacket. I shiver as we walk and clench my jacket closer. August looks at me before pulling me closer and draping part of their coat over me. It’s not much better but I could tell they kind of felt bad that I walked out in the snow for them.

When we got home I immediately pulled them into our bedroom and flopped on our bed. I heard them chuckle as he got dressed for bed. They laid down beside me as they pulled my head to their chest and covered both of us with the blanket. Barely any words were spoken as we cuddled. As I drifted off to sleep I heard august say one last thing.

“Goodnight my love, sleep well.”

Oh my god, writing has saved me more times than i can count. After writing ffxv fics, i wrote with Gio, my partner after all this time. We we wrote about our two OCs falling in love and kid you not, we wrote like 10 chapters of story and about 15+ chapters of AU's and possibilities. We wrote their falling in love, fighting forces against them, rituals, and alot, alot, alot, alot of smut.... couldn't help it, we just love our characters so much and with in that, me and Gio bonded so deeply and fiercely. Never thought I would be able to share my world that I've been working on for 15 years and someone react so well to it that now...

It made a difference. I was able to bounce ideas and be able to work on something that brought me so much peace... I will always cherish writing.

"16. Do you re-read old fics? is there a time in your writing you won't go back to?"

I do, i re-read them, not as much as I used to. I re-read alot of both mine and other's work because you can tell how much care they put into their stories. Some is just so beautifully written it tugs at me. I try to appreciate every word, mine and yours and all the wonderfully talented beings <3

Also i cant think of what i'd never go back to. probably accepting nsfw prompts, i was heavily fucked up and my relationship w sex was noooot the best. But here i am years later, thotting about with thoughts of August Willenheim and trying to put it on docs.

Pros:

✔ You can choose your own pronouns. She/Her, He/Him, They/Them. ✔ LGBT romances and Poly Relationships if you want. ✔ Lovely Story and world. ✔ Lovely artwork. ✔ Lovely soundtrack. ✔ Bonus side stories post main story. ✔ There is an option for a "bad ending". ✔ When you buy the story, you get the entire story + Additional content. ✔ Warnings (in-game) for potential triggers and how to avoid them! ✔ If you don't want to read sex scenes you can skip them.

Cons:

❌ The artwork can be inconsistent in terms of style. ❌ One of the ploy ships does not work for me personally. ❌ Can feel a little short. ❌ For the most part, there are no "choices" beyond romance or not to romance. ❌ The world can feel small. But it works for the story. ❌ Partially voice acted. Personally, I'm not a fan of only certain lines being voice acted, but damn if this cast doesn't have lovely voices. So I sort of let it slide. If you are not a fan, you can just turn the voice volume down, essentially muting it.

So I enjoyed this one. Because I can sit down and play through a character route from beginning to end at my own pace! There are however a view things I want to nit-pick, because I can.

First piper wonderful character, complete badass and I love her voice actresses giggle snort. Perfect. Her design, however....I think the vitiligo should have a deeper pinker contrast. Another nit-pick that I have is the Alkar/Omen/Hunter(You) poly ship. To me this poly ship is lesser than the Ezra/Finn/Hunter(You) ship. Because (to me) it feels like you (the hunter) are getting in between Alkar/Omen at times, whereas Ezra/Finn poly ship feels more like you are actually included and wanted in this relationship.

Plus I dislike the designs of Alkar and Omen. Demons should not have dainty bottom row fangs, if you want bottom row fangs commit and make them orc like. Also while on the subject of Omen, his noodle tail! I hate noodle tails. Noodle tails are stupid. Alkar the four-eared half were-wolf (don't ask me how that works because???? that'll just set me off ranting) has a nice tail. His is a fluffy tail. A good nice fluffy tail! Ezra is amazing and all this shit would collapse without him. Finn is a vampire with a mechanical arm, voiced by Gideon Emery and is just so perfect. Them together amazing, them together with the hunter amazing. All-around amazing. Ezra's relationship is interested in that he can be the sub or dom, you are often given the choice to choose whether you wish to submit or take control or neither. This also applies to the Ezra/Finn/Hunter ship somewhat as well. Piper I have commented on but it bares repeating, I love her. I would kill for this woman, she could crush my ribs and I would be grateful to her for it! She is wonderful, just ugh! I love her so much. Then there is August. I woud die for them. I love them. The moment they appeared in their fine clothes and that fur coat I knew this was the person for me. This was my character who I would cherish. They are perfect, from their voice actor to their very character (they need more sleep dam it) to the fact they unashamedly read smut! I won't get into spoilers because you should (if you can) play this and find out for yourself, but oh I love all of these characters.
