Crush At First Sight
word count: 811 || avg. reading time: 2 mins.
pairing: post-time skip!Tendou x chubby!Reader
genre: fluff
warnings: spoilers
synopsis: you are on vacation and go visit a praline-making demonstration
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Part of the Parisian tourist experience for a chocolate connoisseur such as yourself you simply had to go to a praline-making demonstration. Prim and proper you sat in the first row of the small room with the high ceiling windows, waiting (im)patiently for the chocolatier to step behind the detached metal counter on which a large basin sat that smelled heavenly of chocolate.
Utensils, molds, and a large flat thing you recognized as a scraper lay neatly on the clean surface.
People to your left and right were chatting in different languages and taking pictures of the setup. A few minutes passed until the door behind the counter opened and a young man stepped out. Your first thought was that he looked excited, the second, he was really quite handsome in a chaotic sort of way. He wore a white uniform, the sleeves rolled up to just below his elbows.
“Bonjour à tous! English or Français?”
General mumblings of “English” simmered up from the crowd and he nodded.
“Bear with me, please. My English is only so-so.”, he said heavily accented. It sounded a bit French and a bit of something else.
“My name is Satori, I’m from Japan but came to study … chocolate in Paris.”
The audience chuckled and the young chocolatier straightened his previously slouched shoulders a little, apparently relieved to have broken the ice so easily.
Tendou had done these demonstrations dozens of times before. The chocolate academy sent out their protégés regularly to these tourist demonstrations and usually, he had up to six a day.
He scanned the crowd, proud of such a good turnout, and silently wondered if he had prepared enough tasty treats for everyone to have a bite afterward and then spotted you. Oh no, you were way too cute. This could be a problem. He’d be too preoccupied trying to show off, what if he dropped the filled molds or accidentally used too much force scraping off excess chocolate and sent some flying in your direction? As he stirred the molten chocolate in the basin he stole a second glance in your direction. You sat and watched expectantly, clearly genuinely curious about his upcoming explanations. He decided to ignore you for now, to not spare you another look. For his own mental state. But when his little workshop began and he held up his different instruments asking for participation in naming them and your hand shot up he knew he was in trouble.
Of course, you knew all the utensils, and of freaking course, you knew how to define what a praline was in its essence. Gorgeous and as excited about his work as he was - if it were up to him he would have sent everyone packing and given you a private show, ending with lifting you onto the counter and feeding you one delicious creation of his after another. He tried not to imagine his fingers dipping into your generous sides or standing between your plush thighs, pushing praline after praline past your lips. He held up one of the older molds they used to pour chocolate into in the 1850s and said, “As you can see, these were made of iron. I, of course, could bend them easily because I’m very strong but the new polycarbonate ones are bendable for everyone else as well.”
His heart tumbled down at least two long sets of stairs when he watched you laugh at his joke.
Bravely, he soldiered through his demonstration, disappointed when someone snatched up a reply to a question you obviously knew the answer to. Somewhere towards the end you had stopped raising your hand, undoubtedly uncomfortable about some whispers and looks from people next to you. He adored your eagerness, tried not to coo at how you chewed your lips when suppressing an answer and by the time he hit the mold with finished, set pralines on the counter to get them out he was already thinking of a way to ask for your number.
He did an over-the-top bow at the end, thanking people for their attention, and began cleaning the counter while the audience filed out of the room. You stayed back a bit much to his delight, sorting through your bag. Finally, you carefully picked up one of the pralines as if it was the most precious thing ever and not something he literally threw together in half an hour.
“This was great, thank you.”, you said and Tendou melted like the chocolate in the bain-marie.
“You’re very welcome.”, he replied, watching with bated breath as you lifted the treat to your lips.
“Oh wow… incredible.”
Tendou beamed.
“You know, this particular one goes great with coffee. Fancy a cup? The next group won’t be here for another 30 minutes.”
You looked surprised, which dialed his cute aggression up to 100.
“I’d love that.”
Tumblr media
a/n: I’m currently on vacation in Brussels and went to the Chocolate Museum yesterday which was so incredibly interesting 😱 After watching a demonstration by a young cocky chocolatier I knew I had to write something like it for Tendou! Originally, it was supposed to be a drabble. Oh well.

Okay I basically view you as the stat queen at this point, but is it true that Leon has more goals than Connor does in both their careers? I was watching a guy talk about ovi and I got curious and looked connorleon up and was surprised
yeah! but only by 20ish, despite connor winning a rocket + connor having on avg 90 more minutes in a full 82 game season than leon. funnily enough very technically, whilst leon has been a 50 goal scorer three times, connor never has been (he did get 60 once tho), also connor’s always been a setup man/play maker and almost every season of his career (barring 15-16 - connor and leon hardly had any minutes together, and 23-24 - noted net front presence zach hyman) the guy he sets up the most is leon and especially on the power play. im pretty sure most seasons than not leon’s lead the oilers in ppg and in most seasons than not hes being set up for it by connor (which is why he had a run of calling connor an unselfisb player and kept very publicly telling him to shoot more). also connor and leon have been the oilers’ lead goal-scorer the same amount of times, and honestly like ten of that 20odd goal differential is connor scored 32 last season when his season avg is 43 bc he stopped scoring for a bit there 😭
anyway. of connor’s career points 34.2% are goals, and of leon’s 41.3%! i do thjnk that pure goal differential will grow rather than basically become negligible just bc of the players that they are and the roles they play and also the way the both of them play they do generally like to keep the opposition guessing on if theyll pass pr shoot and theyre both perfectly capable of either ykwim

hi! i know this may sound a little weird and random, but i have two questions that i’m honestly really curious about. and as i don’t know anyone who reads fanfiction in real life and you’re literally the only blog i consistently follow, i figured i would ask them here.
the first one is what’s your setup for reading? like the atmosphere and circumstances you have to be in. for me, i can only read at night with all the lights off while laying down for that full immersive experience (and honestly the darkness also helps in being a little in denial about what i’m reading). not only that, but also a movie or tv show playing in the background at a low volume.
and the next question is what language do you imagine the characters speaking in? i personally always imagine them speaking in korean and so when the author writes a line that very clearly implies they’re speaking english, i’m always like ‘woah, wait a minute’. and that also kind of goes with ocs with non-korean names. it pulls me out of the stories a little because i honestly don’t like it when either of those happen.
that’s not to say that the stories are bad. the vast majority of those stories are very well written and well thought out, it’s just for me personally that i don’t prefer it that way. (btw, congrats on releasing another story! i haven’t gotten the chance to read it yet, but i’m sure it’s just as great as your other ones!)
(pps, i am very grateful for all writers. you guys keep me away from rotting from boredom, so thank you!! hopefully what i wrote doesn’t sound insulting.)
hi, thanks for popping by!
to answer your question, i usually scroll tumblr at late night and i prefer reading on laptop as opposed to phone (but sometimes i use phone too). i usually have music playing in the bg. if i know i'm gonne be bingereading a series or a long fic, i usually switch to phone. dim lights at night, sure. sometimes i'll read during the day whenever i get a break from real life.
the second question is sth i haven't really thought about until you pointed it out AHAHA hmmm i gotta think about this. i learned 3 languages at once from birth so the brain is frankly a mess (english is one of them), plus now that i know avg korean i guess i do hear some phrases in korean while reading? especially the phrases that are easily translatable into korean?
i guess when i first started reading fanfics, that's when i might have focused on the language i hear while reading. i've consumed a lot of english literature so it's usually english for me while reading, and with fanfics it did feel weird in the beginning (esp when some korean terms are kept which sometimes also icks me and there's some weird switching going on but to each their own) but i learned to ignore it and simply enjoy. when it starts to play like a movie in the head, the language does not remain the focus (at least for me)
i don't mind ocs with non korean names when you have korean idols that go by english names LOL but yeah sometimes i find a few things weird but honestly, if the story is good? i don't really mind those things and i can keep going on. it really does come down to personal preferences i guess.
thank you so much! it was random and got me thinking in a good way ahaha but it's not insulting, don't worry <3 i hope you like star 1117 when you read it hehe

Is Maintenance of a Biogas Plant Difficult or Expensive?
Tumblr media
Website: https://www.grunerrenewable.com
⚙️ Introduction: Biogas Plants – Sustainable, but Practical?
As India turns towards sustainable energy, biogas plants have emerged as a powerful solution for waste management and clean fuel production. Whether you're a dairy farmer, panchayat, FPO, or commercial investor, a bio gas plant offers long-term value—from cooking fuel to electricity to Bio-CNG.
But one common concern remains: “Is maintaining a biogas plant difficult or expensive?”
The short answer: Not if done right.
In this article, we’ll break down the maintenance needs, cost factors, and smart strategies to keep a biogas plant running efficiently—especially in Indian conditions.
🧰 What Does Biogas Plant Maintenance Involve?
Biogas plant maintenance is largely about ensuring consistency in four key areas:
✅ 1. Feedstock Management
Supplying the right type and quantity of organic waste (e.g., cow dung, food waste, paddy straw)
Avoiding toxic materials like plastics or chemicals
Ensuring proper C:N ratio for efficient gas production
✅ 2. Digester Health
Checking pH levels, temperature, and retention time
Avoiding foam formation or solid scum
Preventing overloading of waste
✅ 3. Gas Collection & Storage
Inspecting pipelines, valves, and pressure gauges
Checking for gas leaks
Regular maintenance of gas scrubbers if Bio-CNG is being produced
✅ 4. Equipment Servicing
Maintaining mixers, agitators, and pumps (in large-scale plants)
Ensuring gensets or compressors are serviced as per schedule
Keeping motors and control panels clean and dry
💰 Is It Expensive? Understanding the Real Costs
Biogas plant maintenance is generally low to moderate in cost, especially when compared to diesel or LPG systems. Let’s break it down:
Maintenance Component
Cost Estimate (Small/Medium Plant)
Daily labor for cleaning/feed
₹150–300/day
pH test kits or sensors
₹200–₹500/month
Oil and filter changes (genset)
₹1,000–1,500 every 3–4 months
Digester desilting (annual)
₹5,000–₹10,000/year
Equipment service & spares
₹10,000–₹15,000/year (avg.)
✔️ Monthly Maintenance Estimate:
Small Plant (5–10 m³): ₹2,000–3,500/month Medium Plant (50–100 m³): ₹6,000–10,000/month
These costs can be further reduced through:
On-site training
Using digester slurry as organic fertilizer (saves ₹ on chemical fertilizers)
Preventive maintenance schedules to avoid breakdowns
🧑‍🔧 Is It Technically Difficult?
No. Most daily and weekly tasks can be done by a trained local worker or farmer with basic skills.
Tasks That Are Easy to Handle:
Feeding the digester at fixed intervals
Stirring or mixing feedstock (manually or with agitators)
Checking slurry outlet flow
Basic pH checks and temperature observation
When You Need Technical Support:
Gas pressure is abnormally low or high
Equipment like compressors or gensets need professional servicing
Unusual smells or visible gas leaks
Structural cracks in dome or tank
👉 At Gruner Renewable, we provide full O&M training and helpline support to minimize external dependencies.
✅ Tips to Reduce Biogas Plant Maintenance Hassles
Use consistent feedstock (same type every day)
Filter impurities before feeding (no plastic, hair, or metals)
Use solar dryers or shade to control slurry moisture
Schedule monthly checks for pipe leakage or blockage
Follow preventive maintenance of pumps and mixers
Also, using a co-digestion strategy (e.g., cow dung + food waste or paddy straw) can balance the microbial activity, improving plant stability and reducing issues like acidification.
🏡 Perfect for Rural and Decentralized Setups
For rural India, where LPG refills or diesel costs are high, biogas plants offer:
Reliable fuel supply
Low maintenance with training
No recurring commercial fuel purchase
Over 25,000 small and medium-scale biogas plants across India have proven that maintenance is manageable—even at the village level.
🧠 Final Thought: Simpler Than You Think, Smarter Than You Expect
So, is maintenance of a biogas plant difficult or expensive?
Not really—especially if planned properly. With the right training, minimal tools, and regular checks, even a small team can manage a biogas plant efficiently.
At Gruner Renewable, we provide:
End-to-end training for plant operators
Maintenance manuals and preventive care plans
Remote support and annual AMC services (optional)

Karun Nair’s Blazing IPL Comeback: 89 in 40 Balls Against Mumbai Indians
Tumblr media
Karun Nair's sensational return to IPL 2025 has become the talk of the tournament! After nearly three years away from the league, Nair exploded onto the scene with a fearless 89 off just 40 balls for Delhi Capitals against Mumbai Indians, showcasing the kind of batting that once made him a triple centurion in Test cricket.
What made this innings remarkable wasn’t just the runs—it was who they came against. Karun dismantled none other than Jasprit Bumrah, one of the world’s most feared bowlers, scoring 26 off just 9 balls. His shot selection included elegant flicks, inside-out lofted sixes, and laser-precision cuts—all executed with the composure of a man on a mission.
 PowerPlay Highlights:
A flicked six over deep square leg
A classic cut through point for four
An audacious six over long-off
Despite being behind Sameer Rizvi in DC’s playing XI plans, Nair seized his chance and stamped his authority with a knock that could redefine his IPL trajectory.
Domestic Dominance That Led to the Call-Up:
Vijay Hazare Trophy 2024: 779 runs, 5 tons, SR 124
Ranji Trophy: 862 runs for Vidarbha, Avg 53.94
SMAT: SR 177.08
Maharaja Trophy: 560 runs, SR 181.82
Karun’s consistency in all formats backed his comeback, and this innings may just be the spark for bigger things to come—including a return to India’s national setup.
 Karun Speaks:
"I felt ready. I just needed a few balls to get back in rhythm. It’s always tough to wait, but I kept putting in the work. Today, it all clicked."
At 33, Karun Nair’s comeback is not just a story of resilience—it’s a masterclass in patience, self-belief, and seizing the moment. Indian cricket, relentless as it is, might have just rediscovered a gem.

Finished The Rachel Incident by Caroline O'Donoghue.
storygraph reviews avg 4.15 my review 3 its not badly written.
i was entertained by the writing. which is what keeps it at a 3. the story and characters were not...interesting. the characters didn't learn or grow from anything that happened. nothing terrible happened because of their actions. small details that seem important to Rachel, such as the knife play, has no part in the bigger story. it doesn't come up later. it doesn't foreshadow anything. it doesn't show how intune they are or how out of tune they are.
spoiler: spoiler for the end of the book. like the last paragraph.
earlier in the book, and honestly thrpoughout the book its made clear that Rachel and James are tight. Rachel holds James in the highest regard. says codependant herself. we never see James depend on her the same way. Rachel could have betrayed him a thousand times. she doesnt' always says hes my best friend. thats her line through out the whole book. so when she is confronted over the incident that happened some time ago. time is weird in this book. but its like 5 years. minimum. she for some reason keeps her self imposed rule that she can't lie to her former boss but also can't betray her best friend. so when she is asked by her ex boss if she slept with ex bosses husband, Rachel says no it wasn't her. it was someone else actually. its not my story to tell. You can find that story with a tv producer, my best friend, James.
in the paragraphs before this reveal, she had decided to not tell her best friend James that his ex lover is in a coma til the summer. its christmas. then sets his ex lover's still technically married wife on him. because she has questions about an old affair. the wife just want questions because shes doing an affair. and??? wants to connect with her husband on their affairs?? wants to divorce him but wants to set him up with a lover first? thinks reuniting him and his lover will make him happy? we don't know.
its setup suspiciously for a sequel. i will not buy the second. i might buy the first just for the descriptions and similies. second hand though.

For my dear followers! There’s a docker compose config in the Reddit thread. Sic your spare bandwidth on this for a good cause. Picture pulling a book off the bonfire for every doc archived.
I’m setting it up on my unused cloud cap. I would presume it’s generally network-bottlenecked, since it just downloads and then uploads somewhere else, using disk as a temp cache. The images are pulling awfully slowly at the moment.
Update: The container image also runs package installation and setup steps once you start it, so expect some lag between Compose turning up the ct and actually downloading docs. Looks like several minutes of setup, but it’s automated. I’ll update later with my findings on optimal replica count.
Update: It turns out the network seems rather underutilized? And the CPU load is sporadic, and probably the bottleneck. On 3 cores/4 gigs, I'm seeing a load avg of ~2.75 with 30 replicas and 6 concurrent items. 4c/8g, 36/6, load ~3. I'll try tweaking the "concurrent items" parameter and see what happens.
Update: Looks like concurrency is capped at 6 items. Bumping up to 30 ct/3 core and 36 ct/4 core, looking good. Would recommend starting small and scaling up by increments; the container init will peg your CPUs and slow the whole process down. Have fun!
Help archive US government data
I'm sure this is probably old news to the computer obsessed queer people that mostly make up my follower base, but this reddit post is the simplest guide I've seen on how to help archive US government data.
Note that this doesn't save anything to your computer- it downloads stuff, reuploads it to archive servers, and then deletes it locally.
This is probably the easiest idle way to help secure data that is being purged right now. I got it running on my machine easily. If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

On-Grid Solar System Installation: Process, Requirements & Costs
Switching to solar energy is a smart move for both residential and commercial users looking to reduce electricity bills and embrace sustainable energy. Among the various solar power systems, an on-grid solar system is one of the most popular and cost-effective solutions.
What is On-Grid Solar System Installation?
An on-grid solar system, also known as a grid-tied solar system, is directly connected to the main electricity grid. This allows users to generate electricity from solar panels while still being connected to the local power supply. Excess energy generated is sent back to the grid through a net metering system, which provides credits that can be adjusted against future electricity consumption.
Key Benefits of an On-Grid Solar System:
✔ Lower Electricity Bills – Net metering helps you save by sending excess energy back to the grid. ✔ No Battery Required – Unlike off-grid systems, on-grid setups don’t require costly battery storage. ✔ High Return on Investment – Faster payback period due to government subsidies and savings on bills. ✔ Eco-Friendly Solution – Reduce carbon footprint by using clean, renewable energy.
Process of On-Grid Solar System Installation
Installing an on-grid solar system involves several steps to ensure efficiency and compliance with government regulations. Here’s how it works:
Step 1: Site Assessment & Feasibility Study
Solar experts assess your location, rooftop space, and energy requirements.
Factors like shading, roof angle, and grid connectivity are evaluated.
Step 2: Designing the Solar System
Engineers design the system based on power needs and available space.
Key components include solar panels, inverters, mounting structures, and net metering setup.
Step 3: Procuring Solar Equipment
High-quality DCR or Non-DCR solar panels are selected based on budget and efficiency.
Inverters, wiring, and mounting structures are procured for seamless installation.
Step 4: Installation & Grid Connection
Panels are mounted, and the inverter is connected to the main power supply.
After installation, local DISCOM approval is obtained for net metering.

Kubernetes - Prometheus & Grafana
Introduction
Kubernetes is a powerful orchestration tool for containerized applications, but monitoring its health and performance is crucial for maintaining reliability. This is where Prometheus and Grafana come into play. Prometheus is a robust monitoring system that collects and stores time-series data, while Grafana provides rich visualization capabilities, making it easier to analyze metrics and spot issues.
In this post, we will explore how Prometheus and Grafana work together to monitor Kubernetes clusters, ensuring optimal performance and stability.
Why Use Prometheus and Grafana for Kubernetes Monitoring?
1. Prometheus - The Monitoring Powerhouse
Prometheus is widely used in Kubernetes environments due to its powerful features:
Time-series database: Efficiently stores metrics in a multi-dimensional format.
Kubernetes-native integration: Seamless discovery of pods, nodes, and services.
Powerful querying with PromQL: Enables complex queries to extract meaningful insights.
Alerting system: Supports rule-based alerts via Alertmanager.
2. Grafana - The Visualization Layer
Grafana transforms raw metrics from Prometheus into insightful dashboards:
Customizable dashboards: Tailor views to highlight key performance indicators.
Multi-source support: Can integrate data from multiple sources alongside Prometheus.
Alerting & notifications: Get notified about critical issues via various channels.
Setting Up Prometheus & Grafana in Kubernetes
1. Deploy Prometheus
Using Helm, you can install Prometheus in your Kubernetes cluster:
helm repo add prometheus-community https://prometheus-community.github.io/helm-charts
helm repo update
helm install prometheus prometheus-community/kube-prometheus-stack
This will install Prometheus, Alertmanager, and related components.
2. Deploy Grafana
Grafana is included in the kube-prometheus-stack Helm chart, but if you want to install it separately:
helm install grafana grafana/grafana
After installation, retrieve the admin password and access Grafana:
kubectl get secret --namespace default grafana -o jsonpath="{.data.admin-password}" | base64 --decode
kubectl port-forward svc/grafana 3000:80
Access Grafana at http://localhost:3000 using the retrieved credentials.
3. Configure Prometheus as a Data Source
In Grafana:
Go to Configuration > Data Sources
Select Prometheus
Enter the Prometheus service URL (e.g., http://prometheus-server.default.svc.cluster.local:9090)
Click Save & Test
4. Import Kubernetes Dashboards
Grafana provides ready-made dashboards for Kubernetes. You can import dashboards by using community templates available on Grafana Dashboards.
Key Metrics to Monitor in Kubernetes
Some essential Kubernetes metrics to track using Prometheus and Grafana include:
Node Health: CPU, memory, disk usage
Pod & Container Performance: CPU and memory usage per pod
Kubernetes API Server Health: Request latency, error rates
Networking Metrics: Traffic in/out per pod, DNS resolution times
Custom Application Metrics: Business logic performance, request rates
Setting Up Alerts
Using Prometheus Alertmanager, you can configure alerts for critical conditions:
- alert: HighCPUUsage expr: avg(rate(container_cpu_usage_seconds_total[5m])) by (pod) > 0.8 for: 5m labels: severity: critical annotations: summary: "High CPU usage detected"Alerts can be sent via email, Slack, PagerDuty, and other integrations.
Conclusion Prometheus and Grafana provide a comprehensive monitoring and visualization solution for Kubernetes clusters. With the right setup, you can gain deep insights into your cluster’s performance, detect anomalies, and ensure high availability.
By integrating Prometheus' powerful data collection with Grafana’s intuitive dashboards, teams can efficiently manage and troubleshoot Kubernetes environments. Start monitoring today and take your Kubernetes operations to the next level!

From Average to AvG: The Journey of an Esports Rising Star
In the dimly lit glow of LED monitors and the hum of powerful gaming PCs, Erineldo “AvGGamer” Chico, a sophomore at Endicott College, is honing his skills daily at the newly built Endicott esports lab. The grind of esports, a world he stepped into during his sophomore year of high school, has now become his passion. What started as a casual fill-in spot for a friend soon turned into a competitive drive that carried him through to collegiate esports. Now, with each click of his mouse and every strategic move, Chico is competing and thriving in this dynamic, ever-evolving scene.

“I’ve always been competitive,” Chico says with a smile, recounting his early days on the ranked ladder at just 13 years old. But it wasn’t until the Overwatch League (OWL) exploded onto the scene that he truly found his calling. “Watching the pros like Pine play inspired me. I just knew this was something I had to do.”
Overwatch, the game Chico, and his teammates play, is a team-based first-person shooter (FPS) where players select heroes with unique abilities to capture objectives or defend points, in different maps around the world in an optimistic future. Each game can be a mix of fast decision-making and synchronized teamwork, adding much complexity to its gameplay. Another popular esports title is Fortnite, which is known for its massive battle royale format, where up to 100 players compete to be the last one standing in the lobby. The game’s rapid building mechanics and open-world strategy make it a huge staple in competitive play nowadays. Other titles like League of Legends, a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA), demand strategic depth and team coordination as players battle to destroy the opposing team’s base. These games all require hours of dedication and specialized practice routines, which Chico and his teammates work tirelessly to perfect, especially in a game like Overwatch. The Challenges of a Growing Scene
Like many players striving to make their mark, Chico faced numerous challenges. His biggest obstacle? Navigating the largely uncharted territory of structured esports training. “The hardest part was figuring out how long to practice, and what to practice. There’s no one-size-fits-all method,” he admits. “A lot of the community gatekeeps information, so it was up to me to learn through experience.”
Chico and his teammates, like Nick "g0ne" Welton, a junior theater major, dedicate themselves to perfecting their skills in gaming. Nick recalls the intensity of recent esports tournaments, where players compete for hours on end, and manage the pressure of every move being observed. In a typical week, these players clock in 30 hours of practice, including gameplay and analyzing previous matches, typically called “VOD Reviews”.
Tumblr media

Esports, though still relatively new compared to traditional sports, demands just as much dedication and discipline. Chico spends hours refining his aim in KovaaK’s Aim Trainer, as he reviews past gameplay, and incorporates new strategies into his practice sessions. It’s a routine that balances improvement with preventing burnout, a good option for anyone serious about staying competitive. On average, Chico and his teammates play for three to four hours on days they have scrimmages with other teams, often scheduled around peak evening hours to accommodate players in different time zones.

The Grind and the Glory
Despite the challenges, there’s a thrill in pushing limits and seeing progress. Chico vividly recalls a recent tournament where his team, though still new and growing, performed with a level of teamwork they hadn’t achieved before. “That’s what stood out to me the most,” he says. “We’ve got great individual players, but now we’re starting to really come together as a team. Future teams better be ready.”
Tumblr media
Jack "Kairos" Kiernan, another one of Chico’s teammates practicing in an Overwatch custom game
Chico practices daily, ensuring he’s constantly sharpening his skills in-game. “You can’t skip practice, even if it’s just 30 minutes. One missed day can throw you off,” he explains. His dedication is evident, as is his methodical approach to preparation for everything. Before every competition, Chico completes a specific warm-up routine in KovaaK’s Aim Trainer, covering all aspects of aim so that by the time the match starts, he’s fully warmed up and ready to perform.
The lower Callahan esports lab offers resources players like Chico can’t access in their dorm rooms. Each station has high-performance PCs, gaming chairs, and noise-canceling headsets, creating a focused environment for competitive play in any game. Here, players' distractions are limited, as opposed to the limitations of playing in their own rooms. Everything is built for focus, with screens, monitors, and even the lighting set to help players zone into the game. The esports lab’s setup provides players and students alike with a unique experience, with comfort, diversity, and accessibility being the #1 motive behind its events. The esports lab even includes a materials locker with gamer essentials, such as snacks, equipment, energy drinks, and different games for the Xbox and PS5 gaming consoles

The Future of Esports
Looking forward, Chico’s goals are clear: he’s got his eyes set on the next level. “I’d love to go pro after college, or even become a streamer,” he says with confidence. But no matter where his career takes him, his competitive drive will always push him forward, no matter what challenge he faces.
For those looking to get started in esports, Chico has some advice: “Practice is important, but so is balance. You’ve got to have other hobbies and make sure you’re staying healthy. Maybe even hit the gym alongside gaming—it can help you get better.” His teammates even echoed this sentiment, sharing how good gym time and structured schedules keep them sharp for competition, along with a good sense of time management.
A Sense of Home in the Arena
Chico’s nickname, AvGGamer, comes from a past where others labeled him as “average” in the gaming world. But rather than let the name define him, Chico took it as motivation to improve. “I just took it and ran with it,” he says. Now, AvGGamer represents not who he was, but who he’s become. He’s a player determined to rise above and leave a mark in esports.
The monitors' glow and mechanical keyboards' clatter surround Chico, Nick "g0ne" Welton, and Jack "Kairos" Kiernan as they train. In this space, they find focus, camaraderie, and the drive to excel, pushing the limits of what it means to be competitive gamers. With a future as bright as the RGB lights illuminating his gear, AvGGamer is just getting started.
