Miniature awlsnail, Subulina octona, Subulininae, Achatinidae

Native to the Caribbean, Cuba, and Venezuela, this species has been introduced to a wide range of other countries. It is considered an agricultural pest in some areas and is an intermediate host for rat lungworm, which is transmissble to humans.

Anyone know of tips/advice for keeping small snails like awlsnails or flatcoils? I've have kept some awlsnails a few times before, and do well for the first few months each time, but something ends up happening and i release them back to the yard and I'd like to keep them for longer. It is neat to see them get so long a shell and eggs appear.

Graceful Awlsnail (Allopeas gracile)

The Graceful Awlsnail is a member of the family Subulinidae, the Awlsnails. These snails are called awlsnails because their long, pointed shells resemble an awl. Subulinids are often very hard to distinguish from another and the Graceful Awlsnail is often mixed up with the Miniature Awlsnail (Subulina octona). The Graceful Awlsnail is very tiny and may be found in leaf litter, where it lives as an omnivore.
