Digimon Survive-esque evolutions for some of the spinoff protags

With the idea of the SMT characters fighting alongside their Digimon, they evolve based on the main attack type you have been using since their last form. These also correspond to the vaccine, data, virus trio of types.

The DS duo

Honestly I started with Manticoremon then went backwards. It’s both demonic and angelic which I thought worked well. I liked the idea of going with a chimera route considering he absorbs the other Bels. Machinedramon is a combination of a bunch of ultimate Digimon. Shakamon is a jogress here. I didn’t use Chimeramon mostly because I used Milleniumon for another character.

I kinda already used Lunamon😅. So I used Apollomon’s line instead. I didn’t use Gargomon because it felt very-dex. Of course I had to use Baihumon because of the anime.

DDS (I didn’t know what to do with Sera😅)

Seraph’s starting element is ice so I went with that. I kinda wanted to use Shivamon but I couldn’t think of any way to transition it to that well. So I did a route focusing on the more demonic side to his character. I wish there were more IceDevimon related evolutions. There’s just not a lot of demonic ice Digimon. The white sprite is Omnimon Merciful Mode who I can’t explain for spoilery reasons.

The Persona trio (Sorry I haven’t played the first two)

I decided to have them represent data-vaccine-virus. I didn’t think the other way would work with persona really so I made it more like survive and based on if you make positive dialogue choices and do social links. I imagine the more you choose asshole options and act anti-social you would get the negative ones which is ironically just like Survive.

The idea with going with Dorumon is because it has a death evolution where it evolves through dying. For obvious reasons I thought this was thematic (with death being a big part of P3). Its attacks are also fire based. The first white sprite is Jesmon GX and the other is Death X mon.

I gave him Pulsemon because he becomes a lightning god. Yeah, it’s that simple. Unfortunately that led to me having to reuse some Digimon but it’s kinda unavoidable in some cases wherein there’s not many alternatives especially when it comes to the Ultras. As for going with AxeKnightmon it was more based on his personality in Xros Wars. I feel like the dark version of a persona protagonist would be a lot like him. Also I think the Pulsemon dark evo is best saved for a certain someone. I’m imagining Marie has Fenrirloogamon which he jogresses his Digimon with.

I had to use Jokermon my hands were tied. I thought Beezlemon fits well because he’s also edgy and likes using guns. Also despite being a demon lord it’s often used as an anti-hero and has a big rebel vibe. Lucemon isn’t really an ultra. In this case it’s acting as Satanel with being his true mega. Considering Satan mode is supposed to be uncontrollable I thought that fit more for the negative one. The negative one was very hard to do.

I like Pokémon, Yokai Watch, Yu-Gi-Oh, and that stuff but digimon is my favorite. If any asks come in that aren’t digimon, I won’t respond to them. So don’t feel offended. This is mainly for digimon fusion but I can happily branch off to the other shows but try to keep questions for the main characters.

This is mainly Apollomon and his evil counterpart Whispered but I will gladly take questions for the other dark generals, other officials in the Bagra army like Axeknightmon or Laylamon. Since Apollomon is part of the Olympus XII, I will allow questions for other members too but again, if you have a fun questions, try to keep it for Apollomon and Whispered.

Something i just recently thought about is the watchmakers remark that 'he will be looking for his brother' which implies axeknightmon might also be somewhere in the human world, bagramon turned over a new leaf but do you think axeknightmon is willing to do so aswell?

Also i realised that quartzmon shares quite a few similiarities with the big bad of Tamers in both design and parts of their whole plan do you think thats coincidence?

Re: AxeKnightmon, I don't see why not; after all, if even Bagramon was willing, it seems a lot of things are possible. (That's assuming he really is Bagramon. I know we all agree he probably is, but that technically has not been confirmed.)

Re: Quartzmon, I'm not really sure, but it is worth mentioning that Hunters shares a director with Tamers (Kaizawa Yukio), and I think that's why there's a high likelihood of similar stylistic elements simply being part of his style rather than necessarily being due to either series specifically. Personally, I've always figured that the OP ending with all of the Hunters in a shot similar to the Tamers one was probably because of this, since Kaizawa was infamously the one who came up with that shot and stuck Shaochung in there on a whim.

Of course, Xros Wars was made with enough consciousness of older series that it could be a deliberate allusion as well, not even necessarily in a fanservice sense, but the fact Hunters had older Digimon staff on it who likely would have been in the mood to re-invoke what they did in the past. Especially with both Kaizawa and Kakudou involved; they're both openly proud of their work on Digimon, so of course they'd probably enjoy calling back to things they did before (if you were in their position, wouldn't you?).

Finally, thank you! I'm doing well, or at least as much as I can; work has actually intensified to more than pre-pandemic levels, so it's hard for me to commit to this blog the way I used to, and I fear that if I do end up doing 02TB coverage, it won't be extensive in the way I used to do things simply because I won't have time. But I like keeping up, and I like sticking around, and besides, you guys are cool. I'm doing this because it's fun for me, too~

Considering other areas dubbed it “Digimon Fusion Battles” instead of Digimon Xros Wars, I think the US just shortening it to “Digimon Fusion” was the better call.

While the series was technically never finished dub wise, technically speaking the series was supposed to end with Death Generals anyway, and most people cite Hunters as the worst part of it, so maybe it was for the best Tagiru and Gumdramon’s exploits were never dubbed. I was there at ground zero with all the fandom outrage when Hunters completed, so avoiding a second meltdown over something else I’ll take.

As for the name game, it’s hard to say why the dub names for the kids weren’t used. In the past, the products and the cartoon’s terminology didn’t always align. In American card game products sold during and after Frontier for example, Crusadermon went by LordKnightmon still in the card game, while Dynasmon was briefly “Dunusmon”. Similarly the American products (including the much later Data Squad game) would refer to Demon as Creepymon but the 02 cartoon would refer to him as Daemon, a meeting halfway the same way Lilithmon became Laylamon in Fusion.

What makes this curious is DarkKnightmon was dubbed AxeKnightmon in Fusion, but went back to DarkKnightmon in the American version of the current TCG… but the dub for the Adventure reboot went back to calling him AxeKnightmon.

It’s possible, since they were consistent with the Data Squad dub human names, it might’ve been a mistake they never corrected for the American market for Mikey and the others. Why Ruli is an honorary member of the Fusion Fighters here I can’t say though.

I like to think a DigiFusion with Angoramon would give Shoutmon X4 would give him a cool fluffy coat and a wind slash attack.

Y'ever notice how they keep throwing in a tamer card that breaks up the group? The hell is Ruli doing in there.

I find it interesting that they used the Japanese names for Xros Wars characters despite there being an English dub. I suppose because the English dub was never completed? I'm not complaining - I think changing it to "Fusion" was stupid.

Ignores the cat. He's not quite one for animals... even if it is his Tamer's cat. Why would the little thing want to even try to get his attention when he looks the way he does? Does this cat not understand danger? When it hops into his lap regardless, he just grumbles and lets it sit there. So long as he doesn't have to get up, the kitty is safe to lay there.

Olegmon

Cat?? That's a cat. CAT. The moment the cat meows at him for attention, Olegmon is already scooping it up and so gently petting the small furball. He loves cats, well, he's a fan of any kind of animal that's cute and snuggly. Which is a lot of creatures when it comes to him. It doesn't even need to jump up to him, the moment he sees his Tamer's cat, he's lifting it up and placing it on the fluffy cloth in his lap so he can give it more attention and mess with it so long as it's alright with that. Pets the belly and laughs when the kitty tries to bit or scratch him because it simply doesn't even hurt?? He thinks it's adorable.

Wisemon

He has read about Real World cats. Normally they aren't as affectionate as this cat seems to want to be. When the cat begins to meow at Wisemon, he leans down and gives it three(3) pats to its head before he assumes that' enough. When the cat meows at him again, he des it once more. Those same three(3) pats. It's practically a never ending loop until his Tamer has to grab their cat so Wisemon can stop the damn loop.

Vamdemon

Vamdemon will place the cat onto the arm of his chair and absentmindedly scratch its head as he holds a book in his other hand. He would put the cat in his lap, but he doesn't really want cat fur all over his clothes... Even if his Tamer has one of those lint rollers. It's just easier for it to lay on the arm of the chair when it wants attention from Vamdemon as he reads. Because it certainly gets it.

I have a theory that literally came out of nowhere

I was just thinking, why did Kari follow SkullKnightmon and why did they look at each other like that. And then all of a sudden, a random theory just popped in my head. What if Gatomon is SkullKnightmon?

A lot of my random theories pop up like that. I theorized that Angemon and Devimon used to be friend at the end of Episode 20 and he told him to come back to his side, turns out I was right.

But just think about it, look at the way they looked at each other

Its like he (or is it she? Since you know, I think he/she is Gatomon) is looking at her like he/she is telling her; Hey, I'm the one who called you here, follow me. And then she did

And it could work, they can give digimons new champion forms. They can make SkullKnightmon another champion form for Salamon (it would be funny though since all of her next forms are cats, but then all of a sudden she can now digivolve into a dark knight)

But seriously though, Kari kind of had that sense that she knew SkullKnightmon called her (if he/she did). She looked at her brother, like she knew she shouldn't leave him, but she wanted to leave with SkullKnightmon

She didn't even get scared or try to run away when DarkKnightmon try to capture her probably because she had that sense that they were parnters. And DarkKnightmon try to capture her since they are partners

And I know it's weird since Gatomon's entire evolution line are "girls" and SkullKnightmon's entire evolution line are "boys" but if Angemon could digivolve into Angewomon, then Salamon could evolve into SkullKnightmon

And I know it's strange how a small pup could evolve into a dark knight, but if that same pup can evolve into a cat that evolves into an angle that evolves into an armored angle or pink fluffy dragon, then I'm sure that evolution line can work too

But if I am right, then I'm thinking that they would defeat SkullKnightmon, who de-volves back into Salamon and becomes Kari partner and they later on finds out she is the other Holy Digimon
