okay hear me out - of all the iterations of Scully/Mulder that I've seen (Castle/Beckett, Jane/Lisbon, Brennan/Booth), I would argue that Castle and Beckett have the most similar dynamic to Scully and Mulder (except for the fact that Scully and Mulder never hate each other — Beckett finds Castle annoying/"hates" him).

The basic premise is that Richard Castle is an author who bases a detective character on Kate Beckett (an NYPD detective), so he shadows her as "research" for his book series. And the reason I think I find their dynamic most similar to Scully/Mulder is because of how the show subverts gender stereotypes by having Castle be the one who is more comfortable with emotion. He's not a tough guy and doesn't really try to be. Beckett is much more closed off and the one who takes longer to open up to her feelings. She's very by the book and Castle basically opens her up to life again. There are many more reasons, but that's probably the basic underlying one that leads to more similarities, e.g. the men being the believers and the women being the skeptics.

And my latest X-Files related headcanon—it's canon that Castle and Beckett know X-Files well enough for Castle to whistle the theme song and Beckett to recognize it (also they make references during that episode). And it's also canon that they're both nerds, but Beckett is more of a hidden nerd. So my headcanon is that they've both seen X-Files and that Beckett really loved Scully and even tries to be like her in some ways.

ALSO. AMAZING other characters, Castle is such a sweet father, it's a silly sweet loving show, tl;dr PLEASE WATCH IT AAAAAH

What is Stargate SG-1?

only my newest obsession and a damn good sci fi show lol. it’s kind of like star trek meets firefly with a splash of slowburn romance for flavor (although i don’t know how that part ends yet bc i’m avoiding spoilers lol) first comes a movie called stargate and then stargate sg1 is the first tv show spinoff and then there’s another spinoff later called stargate atlantis which i haven’t seen yet. the premise is more or less “what if aliens built the pyramids” lmao but it’s sooooo much fun the main cast has such great chemistry and banter and anyway i highly recommend it lol

Based on the shows you’ve seen, I feel like you’d really enjoy the 2004 version of Battlestar Galactica. It seems like a standard sci-fi premise but actually deals with pretty deep moral issues on a weekly basis, has an excellent overarching plot, and fascinating characters. The show starts with a 3-hour miniseries, after which you’ll either be hooked or you’ll know it’s not your thing.

i’ve seen it! at least i think i have, a year or two ago i watched it and afterwards i realized it was a reboot and there’s an original version that i haven’t seen, but if you’re talking about the one with edward james olmos than i have seen it😊

Your “how to say I love you in x-files” series is giving me life. It’s beautiful! There are SO MANY moments that work for it, even from the Pilot. Honestly there’s probably one in every episode, but you choose yours so well. Makes perfect sense:)
