So I've been working really hard to educate my former-Trumper father on all things LGBTQIA+ and it's been a bit of a struggle. He's pretty ignorant and has a LOT of biases but to his credit, since I expressed to him that I don't feel safe around him because of the things he believes and says, he's really been making an effort, right? So even though a lot of his questions are offensive, when I point out why they're offensive, he apologizes and tries to learn.
He also used to be in the US Army.
And yesterday, he called me up and he goes. "Okay so I have a question. If a Them is in the military, and they're a higher rank than me, what do I do? Because we call people Ma'am or Sir. And I just really don't know what to do!"
And it was the cutest fucking thing, because he sounded genuinely concerned.
And we started talking about how people who use they/them pronouns can have different gender identities and the best thing to do would be to ask the person what they prefer. But it was literally just the sweetest question, because he was genuinely thinking about it. I almost cried.

At the 2022 Oscars, Jamie Lee Curtis brought out rescue pup Mac & Cheese during a tribute to the late Betty White, urging viewers to adopt. Little did she know, her Perfect co-star John Travolta and his son Ben would take the message to heart. After the show, Travolta shared a sweet pic of the pup backstage, revealing they’d adopted her. Curtis called it a “magical ending” and a perfect nod to White’s animal advocacy. Now, Mac & Cheese is part of the Travolta family, proving even Hollywood legends can’t resist a rescue dog’s charm.

The thing about walking around how I do, corpse paint, spiked hair, black corsets and stupidly long black gowns, is that you receive numerous reactions. Most of which unfriendly however they mean little in comparison to those who seem genuinely excited to see a person like me. The people who smile at the grocery store, those who run up to me so excited with rapid fire questions and compliments, the kids who see something they only ever see in their imagination. The fascination of those children with how I get my hair to be that big and why I look like Wednesday Addams. Then there’s the surprises, when an older person says I look gorgeous when I was preparing myself for an insult as they approached. Seeing for a moment someone’s face light up, is so very wonderful. I dress this way for myself, but the joy of others just happens to be an added bonus.

Today at Goodwill I found: a rabbit, a deer, and a bisexual unicorn I plan to use as tiny succulent planters in my office. On Saturday I shall go to the half-off plants section at Home Depot and this happy little project will be complete!

I really like how we pass around posts where we're just pretending to give each other presents. Like I can't physically give you candy or a plushie but hope the imaginary things still make you happy. And personally when I'm on the receiving end they really do. It's such a sweet human social thing, we can be miles and oceans apart and we're playing pretend that we can give each other things.

when someone is interested in your interests without it being forced and they understand you and you see yourself reflected in them in a way you never thought you’d see and you’re different but the same and every time you see them it’s just “I love you I love you I love you”

Animatic/comic idea:
Look Outside x "My Friends" from Sweeny Todd, but instead of Sweeny finding his razors to start murderizing people it's Hellen ecstatic to rediscover her gardening shop and tool stash
*holds up her pruning shears* "At last, my arm is complete again!" *immediately starts trimming back a raspberry bush, humming about rubies while Leigh is confused/disappointed/bored as hell*
Please tell me this is something

Happy Things
It's been a very rough week so far. But here are some of the happiest of things from today:
One of my clients (she's a musician) is going back to her hometown to play Pride Fest and it is a BIG freakin deal after all she experienced there. 100% cried when she told me and told her that I will be cheering SO LOUDLY that she will be able to hear me all the way from there. STILL tearing up just thinking about it.
We don't currently have someone doing the trash pick up at my work, so a bunch of residents have been volunteering to do it. Today, a woman in a motorized wheelchair did an entire section of the first floor, bag-by-bag riding it out to the dumpster. She was so thrilled when I stopped to thank her and said that it "feels so good to be able to be helpful."
One of my older clients stopped by to tell me that another one of my clients saw her struggling to walk home from the store with her groceries so he helped her with them even though she said she "walks so slow." She said he told her that she could call him anytime she needed anything and was so sweet. She said that she remembered me telling her not to judge people by what they look like on the outside (big, covered in prison tattoos, etc.) and that I was right. I pulled that client aside later and told him about it and gave him a hug. He was a little embarrassed but also clearly happy that she'd told me.
B and my mom brought some "perfect sticks" that they found on their walk yesterday and put them in the dog stick library near where she drops him off for camp; she texted me that when she picked him up he'd noticed that two of their sticks were gone and he was so thrilled.
My husband, mom, and B each gave me a huge hug when I got home today because they knew it had been an extra tough day.
