Knitting baby gifts when you don't know the gender has you asking the real questions like, "Are sheep gender neutral?"... 😆

so anyway I finished the baby dragon blanket.
this project took me easily over 100 hours to knit, plus 20ish hours to design and create the pattern itself. it's something like 200 stitches across and 250 rows long, with the backing knit directly onto the front panel. the baby I started this for has been born long enough that the parent has finished their parental leave and come back to work already (which I guess means I can easily hand it off after it's blocked?)
I broke the 'don't invent a new pattern for a gift' rule and paid the consequences. I could reasonably have done some research instead of just reinventing techniques, but I had fun and I think this turned out a solid 8/10 which is probably better than I had any right to expect under the circumstances.

I'm thinking of making this next:
This one was made by JennaJrdn on Ravelry (love the alternating colours):

And this one was made by emmyma (love the picot BO):
Tumblr media
I'm planning to make it as a bandana rather than a shawl, so it will require some swatching first. Gonna try to make it less drapey. I'll bind off half of the swatch with picot to see how I feel about it.
These are the yarns I've chosen:
Tumblr media
The red is Little Red Wagon and the pink is Soft Peach. I was thinking of beige instead of the baby pink (like JennaJrdn's above), but both my boss and her seven-year-old daughter thought I would look better in the pink.
Tumblr media
They are probably right. I'll have a better idea after I've done my swatch.

Managed to get some knits done for the baby shower today. They’re pretty eclectic, and I wonder about the sizing on some of these, but I had fun making them and I think my friend will appreciate the thought at the very least. I know they’ve been looking at hand made baby wear online and been disappointed by the cost. At least I can help them there and de-stash half used skeins.

Some pictures I got of my blocks
I didn't mention it last time but these are my patterns, they're available for free on my ravelry and put together as packages for sale on my etsy. I'm working on knitting these blocks again to take new pictures for these old listings because they're real out of date ((which is why I hesitate to link them))

So which of you is the sun twin and which of you is the moon twin?
A few years ago, a friend of mine had twin girls. I made them these matching baby blankets with sun and moon motifs! I also included a bunny on each because I had a baby blanket with a bunny on it as a kid and it felt appropriate. (Does anyone else have an animal they just associate with babies like that?)
As you can tell by my wobbly lines, I really should have blocked these before sending them out, but I was running out of time to get these to the momma before the babies came!
The pattern I used is called: Easy Baby Blanket by Jackie Ebdon

Sleeves are done for the first baby cardigan! I use spare cords to put my sleeve stitches on hold when I do raglan sweaters like this, but the sleeves are so small that it was becoming super annoying to knit the body with the cords hanging out, so I knit the sleeves first. Now just to finish the body.

it’s really freaking cold here in the pacific northwest so i wanted to get snuggly in bed and knit, so i turned on my pink lights so i can still see to knit but its still dark enough that the projector will work…
and both my current projects are using a pink yarn 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

Finished my first handknit sweater! (pattern credit)
I originally decided I wanted to make a nipple sweater back in 2020, but I didn't like the drape of the crochet fabric, and I ended up frogging it in order to have enough yarn to make Baby Louis.
It's the cycle of life, really. Creation -> death -> birth -> and now I've got plenty of nipples for Baby Louis to pick from when he's hungry.

Yarn was presented to me sans label in a shopping bag by a dear friend who tried to take up knitting in the pandemic and decided it wasn't for her
