Gut Microbiome Test | FMD
The key to overall well-being heavily depends on the gut microbiome, an ever-evolving community of billions of bacteria thriving within our digestive system. Bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microorganisms make up this complex ecosystem, which has a significant impact on immunity, digestion, and even mental health.
Its functioning depends on the diversity of the gut microbiota. In addition to supporting the immune system by protecting against hazardous intruders, a diverse and abundant microbial community also helps break down complex nutrients. The influence of the microbiome on mental health is further demonstrated by recent studies, which point to its possible involvement in disorders including anxiety and depression.
For optimum health, it is important to maintain a healthy gut microbiome. This complex ecology is shaped by a person's diet, lifestyle, and surroundings. A healthy microbial community is promoted by including foods high in fiber, fermented foods, and probiotics in one's diet. On the other hand, this delicate equilibrium may be upset by overusing antibiotics or by eating a diet heavy in processed foods.
Good & Bad Bacteria in The Gut
Numerous different types of bacteria reside in the human gut, and they are essential to our general well-being. There are "bad" and "good" bacteria in this intricate ecosystem, each having a different role and impact on human health.
Positively, "good" bacteria, also known as probiotics, aid in immune system regulation, nutrition absorption, and digestion. These helpful bacteria aid in the breakdown of complex carbohydrates, the synthesis of vital vitamins, and the creation of an unfavorable environment for invading organisms. Lactobacillus and Bifidobacterium, which are present in yogurt and fermented foods, are two common examples.
On the other hand, pathogenic or "bad" bacteria can upset the delicate equilibrium of the gut microbiome. These dangerous bacteria can weaken the immune system, induce inflammation, and create digestive problems when they multiply. Disturbances in the microbiota of the gut, frequently brought on by unhealthy eating habits or overuse of antibiotics, can result in disorders including inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
Encouraging the development of helpful bacteria while limiting the proliferation of dangerous ones is essential to maintaining a healthy gut balance. A balanced gut microbiota may be achieved by eating a varied and high-fiber diet, including foods high in probiotics, and refraining from overusing antibiotics. Maintaining this equilibrium makes sure that our gut's billions of bacteria cooperate to promote healthy digestion, absorption of nutrients, and general well-being.
Interesting Facts About Gut Microbiome
Microbial Metropolis: The gut is home to trillions of microorganisms, collectively known as the gut microbiome. This bustling community includes bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other microbes, creating a diverse ecosystem within our digestive tract.
Microbial Census: The number of microbial genes in the gut is estimated to be around 150 times greater than the number of human genes. This emphasizes these microorganisms' significant impact on our biology and overall health.
Personalized Microbial Fingerprint: Each person's gut microbiome is unique, akin to a personalized microbial fingerprint. Genetics, diet, environment, and lifestyle contribute to this individualized composition.
Brain-Gut Connection: The gut microbiome communicates with the brain through the gut-brain axis, influencing mood, behavior, and even cognitive function. This bidirectional communication emphasizes the gut's role in mental health.
Weighty Matters: The gut microbiome has been linked to weight management. Certain microbial species are associated with lean individuals, while an imbalance may contribute to weight gain and obesity.
Microbial Diversity Matters: A diverse gut microbiome is generally a healthy one. A rich microbial community supports various functions, including efficient digestion, nutrient absorption, and a robust immune system.
Microbial Maturation: The development of a newborn's gut microbiome begins at birth and continues through early childhood. Factors like delivery method (vaginal vs. cesarean), breastfeeding, and exposure to microbes shape its maturation.
Probiotics and Prebiotics: Probiotics, beneficial live bacteria, and prebiotics, which are compounds that nourish these bacteria, contribute to a balanced gut microbiome. Foods like yogurt, kefir, and fiber-rich vegetables support gut health.
Gut Microbes and Immunity: A significant portion of the immune system is located in the gut. The gut microbiome plays a crucial role in training the immune system, helping it distinguish between harmful and harmless substances.
Gut-Heart Connection: Recent studies suggest a link between the gut microbiome and cardiovascular health. Imbalances in the gut may contribute to conditions like atherosclerosis and hypertension, highlighting the systemic impact of gut health.

Bacteroidota
Group: Hydrobacteria; FCB Group
Gram-stain: Negative
Etymology: For Bacteroides fragilis. From the Latin "bacter" and the suffix "-oid", meaning "rod-like"; there are numerous rod-shaped species in this phylum.
About: Bacteroidota is one of the larger and longer-studied bacterial phyla, with the first species being isolated in 1898. It mostly consists of endosymbiotic bacteria found in the digestive systems of animals, but they are also prevalent in soil, and some are halophiles (salt-lovers) that live in a marine environment. The environmental Bacteroidota are known for their ability to break down complex organic compounds, and thus are important in nutrient-cycling.
Bacteroidota have diverse metabolic strategies, and may be aerobic or anaerobic. They are noted for being able to digest complex polysaccharides such as cellulose and starches, and for producing acetic and succinic acid. Some are able to use urea as a nitrogen source. The endosymbiotic Bacteroidota are hyperspecialized to the gut environment, and help their hosts break down nutrients. They may act as opportunistic pathogens, and infect cells of their host that are already weakened.
The genus Bacteroides is important for humans, especially infants, since they break down otherwise indigestible components of breastmilk. Have you noticed a theme yet? Breaking down complex nutrients is sort of this phylum's thing. And Bacteroidota are our little helpers from the very beginning: during vaginal birth, some Bacteroides are transferred from mother to child. The presence of these Bacteroides in the infant gut is associated with (and may be necessary for) healthy neurodevelopment. That means you have them to thank for your ability to read this post right now!

STORY AT-A-GLANCE
Your gut is home to bacteria, viruses, fungi, archaea and eukarya; bacteria make up the vast majority of microbes in your microbiome
While your highly acidic stomach may host only about 1,000 colony-forming units (CFU) of bacteria per milliliter (mL), your large intestine is home to up to 1 trillion CFU/mL
Bacteroides are the dominant microbe in your large intestine; the composition of these microbes, and those elsewhere in your gut, are linked to health conditions like obesity, depression, Alzheimer’s disease and inflammation
Your age, health status, diet and environment all influence the numbers and diversity of microorganisms in your gut
A healthy gut microbiome depends on the consumption of whole, fermented foods and the avoidance of unnecessary antibiotics and other environmental assaults; spore-based probiotics are one option to help
The human gut is finally receiving the respect it deserves — and so are its trillions of inhabitants.1 You are, at your core, a microbial being,2 and while microorganisms are found everywhere from your skin to your mouth and even your blood,3 it's your large intestine where your body's largest bacterial ecosystem resides.4
If you treat it and the rest of your microbiome well, good health — both mental and physical — is likely to result. By nourishing this complex microbial community, you can even influence your gut-brain axis, which regulates digestion, mood, immune function and much more.5
The Number of Microbes Living in Your Gut Is Staggering
Your gut is home to bacteria, viruses, fungi, archaea and eukarya. The latter two resemble bacteria but are distinct groups of microorganisms. Bacteria, meanwhile, make up the vast majority of microbes in your microbiome. Three main phyla or groups of gut microbes make up the human microbiome and serve diverse structural, protective and metabolic functions:6
Bacteroidetes — Porphyromonas, Prevotella and Bacteroides
Firmicutes — Ruminococcus, Clostridium, Lactobacillus and Eubacteria
Actinobacteria — Bifidobacteria (the most prevalent type)
Broken down, the average person may host the following quantities of bacteria in different body regions.7 Remember that this is just an average — your age, health status, diet and environment all influence the numbers and diversity of microorganisms in your gut.8
Mouth — 100,000 colony-forming units (CFU) per milliliter (mL)
The digestion process begins in your mouth when you chew your food, making it easier to break down in your gut. Your mouth contains an impressive number of microbes to maintain oral health but if they become out of balance, disease may result.
For instance, the bacteria in your mouth are thought to play a role in blood pressure via nitric oxide (NO), a soluble gas stored in the lining of your blood vessels, called the endothelium. However, antiseptic compounds in mouthwash may destroy beneficial oral bacteria that are important for maintaining blood pressure, thereby contributing to high blood pressure levels.
In one study, the use of the mouthwash twice daily was associated with a significant increase in systolic blood pressure after one week, while once the mouthwash was stopped, "recovery from use resulted in an enrichment in nitrate-reducing bacteria on the tongue."9
Differences in more than 10 species of bacteria living on the tongue were noted after mouthwash use, including lower microbial diversity after one week of use.10 As noted in a Frontiers in Bioscience review, nourishing and protecting your oral microbiome may reduce your risk of multiple diseases:11
"Recent studies show that one approach to reducing the risk of chronic infections, such as caries, gingivitis, periodontitis, and halitosis, is to control the ecology of the oral microbiome instead of completely removing both the harmful and beneficial microorganisms.
This is based on the knowledge that oral diseases are not caused by a single pathogen but rather by a shift in the homeostasis of the entire microbiota, a process known as dysbiosis."
Pseudomonadota, which are present in higher concentrations in the mouth than in the gut,12 also play an important role in producing short-chain fatty acids and boosting the growth of beneficial gut microbes.13 Fusobacteriota represent another prominent type of microbes in the body. While they can help stimulate inflammatory responses to fight pathogens, they may also drive inflammation and are linked to periodontal disease.14

Esophagus — 10 Million CFU/mL
Firmicutes tend to be particularly abundant in the esophagus. While relatively low in numbers compared to elsewhere in the gastrointestinal tract, Firmicutes are useful for helping to break down sugars and carbohydrates from the foods you eat.15
Interestingly, Firmicutes, which are centrally involved in glucose and insulin metabolism, belong to the phylum most adversely affected by the artificial sweetener sucralose.16 Animal studies suggest the sucralose-altered gut microbiome could be involved in inflammation of the gut and liver, as well as cancer.17
Stomach — 1,000 CFU/mL
Your stomach's low pH levels limit the growth of microbes. But even in this high-acid environment, some microorganisms survive. Actinomycetota tend to be the dominant microbes in the stomach, along with Streptococcus, Staphylococcus, Peptostreptococcus and Lactobacillus.
Lactobacillus has been dubbed a "psychobiotic"18 because of its effects on mental health, particularly anxiety and depression. Lactobacillus bacteria — found in many fermented foods — helps dampen stress responses and prevent depression and anxiety, in part, by modulating your immune system.19
Small Intestine — 1,000 CFU/mL to 100 Million CFU/mL
The concentration of microbes in the small intestine gradually increases, starting with 1,000 CFU/mL in the duodenum — the first part of the small intestine — and rising to 100,000 CFU/mL in the second part, known as the jejunum. In the third part, the ileum, there are about 100 million CFU/mL.
Firmicutes are abundant in the small intestine, but actinomycetota, which help break down complex carbohydrates and produce vitamins B12 and K2, are another dominant species. They also help protect against pathogens.20
Bacteroides are also found in the small intestine. They also play a role in breaking down complex carbohydrates and producing vitamins, as well as helping to regulate the immune system.21
Large Intestine — Up to 1 Trillion CFU/mL
Bacteroides are the dominant microbe in your large intestine, the area of your body with the highest concentration of bacteria. Bifidobacteria are also present. The composition of these microbes, and those elsewhere in your gut, are linked to health conditions like obesity and inflammation.
As noted in a review published in Nutrients, obese individuals tend to have higher proportions of Firmicutes and Lactobacillus and lower proportion of Bacteroidetes and Bifidobacterium compared to normal weight individuals.22
Studies have also linked specific strains to specific health problems. For example, high levels of Bacteroides vulgatus, which is abundant in the human gut, appear strongly associated with inflammation, insulin resistance and altered metabolism. Low levels of certain bacteria in the Firmicutes phylum, including Blautia and Faecalibacterium, have been linked to the accumulation of trunk-fat specifically.23
Your Gut-Brain Axis Is an Information Highway
Gut microbes' effects don't only apply to your gastrointestinal tract. They interact with your central nervous system via the microbiota-gut-brain axis, a two-way information highway that involves neural, immune, endocrine and metabolic pathways.24 By promoting proinflammatory cytokines, bacteria may also play a role in damaging the integrity of the microbiota-gut-brain axis and the blood-brain barrier.25
There are also 10 gut microbiota genera with a significant link to Alzheimer's. Six are negatively associated with Alzheimer's, meaning they're less common in people with Alzheimer's than in those without the disease and may therefore have a protective effect.
The remaining four are positively associated with Alzheimer's, meaning they're more abundant in those with Alzheimer's disease, making them a risk factor for the condition. Specifically:26
Bacteria protective against Alzheimer's include Firmicutes phylum (Eubacterium nodatum group, Eisenbergiella and Eubacterium fissicatena group) as well as from Actinobacteria (Adlercreutzia, Gordonibacter) and Bacteroidetes (Prevotella 9)
Bacteria associated with Alzheimer's include Firmicutes (Lachnospira and Veillonella), Actinobacteria (Collinsella) and Bacteroidetes (Bacteroides)
What's Hurting Your Microbial Health?
Researchers are only beginning to tap the surface when it comes to unveiling the complex relationship microbes have with human health and disease. But it's known that microbial diversity in your gut is a good thing, while decreased diversity in the gut microbiome has been linked to chronic conditions such as obesity and Type 2 diabetes.
In general, gut microbial diversity decreases with age,27 but even younger people are being affected. The overuse of antibiotics, elective C-sections and processed foods have been described as primary factors "driving the destruction of our inner ecology."28 C-section delivery is associated with an increased risk of immune system and metabolic disorders, possibly due to altered microbes.29
Dramatic increases in chronic diseases, including Type 1 diabetes, asthma, obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease and inflammatory bowel disease, are also linked to the loss of bacterial diversity in our guts — caused by the overuse of antibiotics.30 Consumption of whole foods, meanwhile, is linked to higher gut microbiota diversity,31 as is consuming herbs and spices, for instance.32
But processed foods, which are devoid of fiber needed to feed a healthy microbiome, contain chemicals such as the herbicide glyphosate that also disrupt microbes.33 From EMFs and air pollution34 to antibacterial soap, your microbiome is under constant assault from the world around you.
How to Optimize Your Gut Microbiome
Avoiding antibiotics, including those found in conventionally raised meat, is key to keeping your microbiome health intact. Ultraprocessed foods, artificial sweeteners, chlorinated and fluoridated water, elective C-sections and antibacterial products are other culprits that can worsen your microbial health.
A healthy gut microbiome depends on the consumption of fermented foods. A study assigned 36 adults to consume a diet high in fermented foods or high-fiber foods for 10 weeks. Those consuming fermented foods had an increase in microbiome diversity as well as decreases in markers of inflammation.35
If you do take antibiotics or are looking for another supportive measure for gut health, consider spore-based probiotics, or sporebiotics. These are part of a group of derivatives of the Bacillus microbe and have been shown to dramatically increase your immune tolerance.
Spore-based probiotics do not contain any live Bacillus strains, only its spores — the cell wall or protective shell around the DNA and the working mechanism of that DNA. As such, they are not affected by antibiotics and may be able to reestablish your gut microbiome more effectively when taken in conjunction with the antibiotic.
In your gut, the Bacillus species also convert sugar into vitamin C, a nutrient well-known for its anti-infectious effects and, according to Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt, a long-time mentor of mine, sporebiotics also massively increase reproduction of acidophilus, bifidus and other beneficial microbes in your gut via the electromagnetic messages they send out.
This is entirely unique. When you take a regular probiotic, they primarily take care of themselves. Bacillus spores, on the other hand, enhance many other beneficial microbes. Bacillus spores also create 24 different substances that have strong antimicrobial properties. But they do not kill indiscriminately the way antibiotics do. As noted by Klinghardt:
"Seeding the gut with things that make it stronger, more resilient towards the offenses we present to it is a huge key to our time. We need to live through this insane time, and we need to use all the tools that give us more resilience, which is for me like a holy war.
Resilience means immune tolerance — tolerating the stresses of our time, and any tool that does it, that is healthy, that doesn't have side effects, is important to have in our tool chest. [Sporebiotics] is one of the major ones."

4. CONCLUSION
In this study, the in vitro effect of quinoa and quinoa polysaccharides on human gut health was investigated. Before fermentation, the cooked and uncooked quinoa were subjected to an in vitro digestion process. Polysaccharides were extracted from quinoa seeds. During the fermentation, the pH values of quinoa, quinoa polysaccharide, and FOS decreased, which was related to the production of short‐chain fatty acids, the main metabolites of the intestinal microbiota providing several beneficial functions for the epithelial cells and the immune system as well. The changes and diversities in the fecal microbiota after fermentation were analyzed at the phylum, genus, and class level. After the metagenomic analysis, it had been found that the quinoa substrates enhanced the growth of certain beneficial bacteria such as Prevotella and Bacteroides. Moreover, quinoa polysaccharides could be considered prebiotic due to their ability to increase Bifidobacterium and Collinsella. The PCA analysis revealed that cooked, uncooked quinoa and quinoa polysaccharides had significant differences of modulatory effect on gut microbiota compared with the blank and FOS, whereas the cooked and uncooked quinoa were grouped close to each other. These preliminary in vitro results encourage more exploration of quinoa and its intestinal health effects, including studies in vivo and other physiological parameters concerning human health.

Type I Diabetes - Telomere
Diabetes is of many types as follows: 1. Type 1 Diabetes
2. Type 2 Diabetes
3. Gestational Diabetes
4. LADA – Latent auto immune disease of the adults
5. MODY – Moderate Onset Diabetes of the Young
Before understanding Diabetes Mellitus let us understand a few important terms
Glucose:
- This is a type of sugar or a carbohydrate. The food we eat is ultimately converted to glucose - In every cell of our body, glucose is converted to energy - Brain especially depends on glucose as an energy source
Insulin:
- Insulin is a hormone that plays an important role in maintaining blood sugars - This is the only hormone in our body which in anti-diabetic – meaning it lowers blood sugars. - Other hormones such as glucagon, cortisol, adrenaline, nor adrenaline, thyroxine increases blood sugars
Ketones:
- When cells do not get enough glucose, fats burn to form ketones which gives us energy - Ketones serves as an alternative fuel source of energy for the brain - Usually when we fast for 14-16 hrs., glucose levels are depleted and our body produces some number of ketones. - We are in a state of mild ketogenesis and it’s not harmful and studies show that they are beneficial - Under starvation for 30 days, brain depends on ketones for about 70% of its energy demands
Type 1 Diabetes Mellitus:
Occurrence:
- Type 1 diabetes contributes to 10 % of the total diabetes in the world - Usually diagnosed in young children from 4-14 years - Approximately 50% of the Type I diabetes occurs in adults. Usually misdiagnosed as Type II diabetes
What is Type I Diabetes Mellitus:
- Type I diabetes is an auto immune disease - Our own immune system recognizes our pancreas as foreign and produce antibodies against beta cells of pancreas and attack them. - This results in damage of beta cells and insulin is not produced. - If there is no insulin, blood glucose levels stay elevated
Causes for Type 1 Diabetes: The root cause for Type 1 Diabetes is not known but it is suggested to be due to following factors:
1. Genetic predisposition + environmental factors:
- If parents or siblings have type 1, there is a high chance that kids may also develop type I diabetes. - The genes can be triggered by toxins or bacteria or viruses resulting in the immune system to attack one’s own pancreas.
2. Viral infections:
- It was noticed that viruses such as enterovirus can trigger our immune system to attack beta cells of pancreas
3. Nutritional factors:
- Cow’s milk and animal protein may also trigger Type 1 Diabetes. - Vitamin D deficiency was also associated with Type I diabetes
4. Gut health:
- Gut dysbiosis leads to increase of inflammatory signals which results in attack on pancreas. - The presence of more bacteria belonging to a group called Bacteroides and less of Firmicutes bacteria leads to increased gut permeability and attack of beta cells. - Gut health is majorly influenced by the diet

Robo-Therm, a pipeline to #RNA Thermometer discovery and validation [Method]
RNA thermometers are highly structured noncoding RNAs located in the 5' untranslated regions (UTR) of genes that regulate expression by undergoing conformational changes in response to temperature. The discovery of RNA thermometers through bioinformatics is difficult because there is little sequence conservation among their structural elements. Thus, the abundance of these thermo-sensitive regulatory structures remains unclear. Herein, to advance the discovery and validation of RNA thermometers, we developed Robo-Therm, a pipeline that combines an adaptive and user-friendly in silico motif search with a well-established reporter system. Through our application of Robo-Therm, we discovered two novel RNA thermometers in bacterial and bacteriophage genomes found in the human gut. One of these thermometers is present in 5'-UTR of a gene that codes for 70 RNA polymerase subunit in the bacteria Mediterraneibacter gnavus and Bacteroides pectinophilus, and in the bacteriophage Caudoviricetes, which infects Bacteroides pectinophilus. The other thermometer is in the 5'-UTR of a tetracycline resistance gene (tetR) in the intestinal bacteria Escherichia coli and Shigella flexneri. Our Robo-Therm pipeline can be applied to discover multiple RNA thermometers across various genomes. http://rnajournal.cshlp.org/cgi/content/short/rna.079980.124v1?rss=1&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=tumblr

The Importance of Gut Health to Immunity and Disease Prevention
Dr Mercola Story at-a-glance Your gut is home to bacteria, viruses, fungi, archaea and eukarya; bacteria make up the vast majority of microbes in your microbiome While your highly acidic stomach may host only about 1,000 colony-forming units (CFU) of bacteria per milliliter (mL), your large intestine is home to up to 1 trillion CFU/mL Bacteroides are the dominant microbe in your large intestine;…

Fresh coconut water is a staple in many diets around the world, including those of India and other tropical countries. But it goes beyond being a refreshing, thirst-quenching drink. Here’s a rundown of its research-backed benefits, such as decreased blood glucose and body weight for improved health.
Coconut water is nature’s gift in one complete package. It’s the liquid found in the center of a young, green coconut, helping nourish the fruit. Its wide range of applications is justified by its unique chemical composition of sugars, vitamins, minerals and amino acids, as well as phytohormones.[i]
The average green coconut offers about one-half to 1 cup of coconut water. One cup contains 46 calories along with 9 grams (g) of carbohydrates, 3 g of fiber, 2 g of protein, 11% of the recommended daily intake (RDI) of sodium and 17% of the RDI of potassium.[ii]
Coconut is known to be an excellent alternative to sports drinks, a natural refreshing beverage that could be used for whole-body rehydration post-exercise.[iii] Nature also filters coconut water through an intensive purification process, eliminating safety issues commonly tied with municipal water systems and even sports beverages comprising synthetic ingredients.
Vita Coco Coconut Water, Pure Organic | Refreshing Coconut Taste | Natural Electrolytes | Vital Nutrients | 11.1 Oz (Pack Of 12)
Let’s recap some of the whole-body benefits of consuming fresh coconut water, starting with a 2018 study looking into its effects on body weight and glucose levels.
Slashing Blood Glucose and Excess Pounds Naturally
A group of researchers sought to compare the effects of higher saturated fatty acid and fiber intake, as provided by fresh coconut, and monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) and fiber intake via a combination of groundnut oil and groundnuts.[iv] They then measured indicators such as blood insulin and glucose levels, along with blood pressure, in healthy adults.
The researchers divided the 80 healthy subjects they recruited into two randomized groups, consuming a standardized diet along with either 100 g of fresh coconut or an equal amount of groundnuts and groundnut oil for 90 days.
The results showed that fasting blood sugar in both groups was significantly reduced. Yet they also observed a significant reduction in body weight in the coconut group, along with a notable increase in diastolic pressure in the groundnut group.
The researchers noted, “Fresh coconut-added diet helps reduce blood glucose levels and body weight in normal healthy individuals.” This supports previous studies that vouch for the blood-sugar lowering action of the natural drink, offering potential anti-diabetes benefits despite its naturally sweet taste.[v]
Interestingly, while groundnut intake reflected an increase in diastolic pressure, coconut was shown in previous research to push down systolic and diastolic pressures in hypertensive subjects.[vi] Additional animal research shows coconut water prevents and reverses fructose feeding-induced high blood pressure, along with reducing oxidative stress and insulin resistance.[vii]
Coconut water vinegar, too, has been promoted as a food ingredient with potential anti-obesity and anti-inflammatory effects, thanks to alterations in the gut microbiota due to increased populations of Bacteroides and Akkermansia genera bacteria.[viii]
Other Wondrous Health Benefits of Coconut
Anti-ulcer properties: Both coconut water and coconut milk demonstrate strong anti-ulcer activity against chemicals such as indomethacin, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID).[ix]
Lipid-lowering action: Coconut water has a lipid-modulating effect similar to the drug lovastatin in rats fed a fat- and cholesterol-enriched diet.[x]
Alzheimer’s disease protection: In a novel study, young coconut juice showed positive future implications in the prevention and treatment of Alzheimer’s disease in menopausal women.[xi]
Sperm preservation: A coconut water-based extender, ACP-116c, along with 20% egg yolk and 3% glycerol, was effective for the cryopreservation of semen.[xii]
Antibacterial benefits: Three peptides were purified and identified from green coconut water, exhibiting remarkable antimicrobial action against pathogenic bacteria.[xiii]
Kidney stone fighter: In a study on rats with kidney stones, coconut water barred crystals from sticking to the kidneys and other parts of the urinary tract. In addition, it slashed the number of crystals formed in the urine.[xiv]

Osteoporosis, affecting over a third of women aged 50 and above and 200 million people globally, is a major health concern with potential annual costs exceeding $25 billion by 2025. A recent study in Nature Communications links osteoporosis to the gut bacteria Bacteroides vulgatus, which suppresses the production of valeric acid. This short-chain fatty acid is essential for maintaining bone density, and its reduction may contribute to increased bone resorption, leading to brittle bones and osteoporosis.
