I love that you're known for loving Keefe through thick and thin

I feel like so often people think loving a character means excusing their behavior or thinking they're a good person when that's not at all what it means. More often than not, people forget it's a *fictional* character. Loving the character through even their most cancellable flaws doesn't mean you're excusing them, it just means you love a good character.

As a writer, I often find myself being drawn to morally grey characters because they're fascinating from a writing POV. That doesn't mean i'd actually love them if they were real, or that I would endorse what they do, but that's what's fun aboug loving fictional characters: they're fictional.

I also personally disagree with the popular idea that Keefe is a badly written character. I think people get frustrated by his arc kind of being a loop and a lot of the same issues coming back around again after he’s tried to get better, but to me that’s just… realistic, you know? Like I get that people want to see characters go through distinct arcs where they are a certain way and then x y and z happen and then they are a different way. But that’s also not how it actually works. I think that’s part of what draws me to Keefe so much—hasn’t everyone been stuck in a cycle of bad patterns at some point in their life? To us, this series has been going on for twelve years, but to them, it’s been like… three. And three years is NOT a long time when you consider everything that’s happened to these kids over the course of those three years.

I understand why people have issues with the pacing of KOTLC, I just personally don’t share them. Again, to me it’s more realistic than it is frustrating, in a kind of refreshing sort of way.

I also think Keefe is a good guy a lot of the time and don’t want this to be forgotten. Like, he’s, he’s not always perfect! Sometimes he’s not even really a good guy at all! But it’s not like he’s never been sweet and kind and supportive in the best ways. He has his good traits, too, and even though I spend a lot of time on this blog fleshing out what I like about his flaws, I think it’s important to remember that while he is certainly a flawed character, those flaws do not make up his entire character.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: he’s a character formed by bad circumstances who is stuck in a cycle of bad habits. And I’m never going to be okay about it

I just want kotlc to be a bit darker and less childish. All series have become more mature over time, Harry Potter Percy Jackson etc. but kotlc remains childish the series does not mature. I will be honest I would like to see some tension in the book that there is between teenagers that there is in real life and which is transcribed in the last volumes of HP or Percy Jackson. I wish there was more blood, more complicated stories. I would like the covers to become darker without having mini unicorns drawn on them. I speak English very badly and I don't know if it's understandable

My main fandom is KoTLC (Keeper of the Lost Cities) and also Shadowhunters (currently crying after finishing chain of thorns. planning on murdering cassandra clare.) KOTLC Squad: Are they good with kids?

Sophie: actual kid herself, loves playing with them and is especially good with shy/not popular kids (due to her being one herself). Don't let her babysit unless you're prepared to deal with a lot of mess. older sister to the CORE, like she will tease and mess around but the second someone else does it? she's ready to cut a bitch.

Keefe: adores kids!!!!!! thinks they're super neat and kids love him bc they can tell he likes them. often will put on shows/performances or other creative tasks (like pranks...) to keep them amused. endlessly patient which surprise people that don't know his background.

Fitz: doesn't mind kids but is awkward with them. he doesn't know how to deal with them. they're so small???????? and sticky??????? doesn't hate kids and would never be mean to them but both parties tend to avoid one on one time with each other

Biana: a bit like Fitz. being the youngest child she's never really had any experience with kids so she feels awkward around them. however!!! she is the undisputed tea party Queen. she'll set up an elaborate party with dresses, tea, cakes, etc and invite kids and all their toys. she doesn't even mind the inevitable destroying of her hard work. so she's good with kids in an environment she can set up and control.

Tam: doesn't hate kids, doesn't love them, but kids love him. Keefe jokes that they're drawn to bad hairstyles but truthfully they all think he's cool. so they'll hang around him and he does shadow puppet shows when he's in a good mood. overall he appreciates that they're not scared of him. also if any kids are ever treated badly he's there to comfort them like he once did with linh.

Linh: undisputed babysitting champion. that perfect blend of fun and games while still being respected as an authority (Keefe and Sophie struggle with this). absolute legend at the "I'm not mad, just disappointed". the kids literally never be deliberately naughty bc they love her so much. often takes the kids swimming and let's them play all the time. also number one cuddler and has the magic ability to kiss all wounds better.

Marella: not super great with kids. she's been pretty isolated her whole life so she doesn't really know how to interact with them. often is snappy without meaning to be, but she never means harm. is very effective with kids who struggle with tempers etc, and gives tips while she can. in a group setting she's good at playing games.

Dex: he has three younger siblings, if you don't think he's great with kids then you can leave. the triplets are absolute terrors so comparatively all other kids are angels. his specialty is making up new games for kids to play, and he's the one who introduces them to board games! at Sophie's urging he even creates a mini movie theatre and plays human movies from his mums collection. the kids see him as an almost god like figure bc of how he can create ANYTHING and just love him to pieces. and when he and Keefe team up for pranks... watch out
