IN THE DYING SUMMER SUN — BBH
Tumblr media
PAIRING: baekhyun x female reader SUMMARY: a weekend up at the beach house might just be enough to make you crack and come clean about your little (big, fat) crush. alternatively, park chanyeol is possibly the worst wingman ever. GENRE: friends to lovers! au, crush! baekhyun, romance, fluff, a pinch of angst, pining, humour WARNINGS: swearing, alcohol consumption, sexual tension!!, slightly suggestive, reader and baekhyun are both kind of clueless tbh WORD COUNT: 9.4k NOTE: happy birthday baekhyun!! thought it would be fitting to start off this blog with a fic for bbh on his birthday. this was supposed to be a 4-5k piece of fluff but somehow it ended up being double that and a lot more serious than i originally intended (oops?). kinda nervy posting such a long fic for the first time ever so feedback is most certainly welcome and i hope you enjoy!
Tumblr media
“You definitely rigged this.”
Chanyeol only rewarded you with a shit-eating grin.
The scrap of paper couldn’t weigh more than a few grams, but in your hands, they felt like the barbell plates at the gym that he could never leave alone. Especially since a certain someone was also holding another scrap of paper with ‘ground floor twin room’ hastily scrawled across it.
You shook your head vehemently, fixing the tall boy with a dagger-like stare that he seemed completely unfazed by. “I demand a redraw.”
“Which is not going to happen,” was his gleeful response. “We all agreed — no take-backs before picking.” The hat that you had all drawn out of, now empty, was tossed on the coffee table as everyone else began to move their bags into their freshly chosen rooms. Somewhere down the hallway, Jongin tripped over the wheels of his suitcase, his pained groan and Kyungsoo’s laughter bouncing against the walls of the AirBnb.
“Besides,” Chanyeol continued, hand coming up to ruffle your hair, “if I had actually rigged it, you should be thanking me. I’d be doing you a favour.” He gestured towards Baekhyun, who was busying himself with packing his hoodie back into his duffle bag, hopefully oblivious to the fact that the two of you were conspiring about him less than three metres away.
“Yeah, say it any louder, why don’t you. And no, that wasn’t an invitation,” you warned, catching the wicked glint in Chanyeol’s eyes. He opened his mouth, as if to make good on your request and let the whole house know, only to choke back a groan at the elbow you shoved into his side. Behave, said the glare that you shot at him. His replying smile was anything but reassuring, before he picked up his bag and headed upstairs.
That was what you got for getting a little too drunk at Jongdae’s housewarming get-together last month and accidentally slipping up about your big, fat, debilitating crush on Baekhyun after the third glass of pinot noir in one night. If it had been anyone else made aware of your juvenile secret, you would probably be feeling a little less uneasy — but it just had to be the one person who couldn’t keep his mouth shut to save his life. Not to mention Park Chanyeol was a terrible wingman, having heard about the ridiculous escapades he put Jongdae through before he finally cuffed his girlfriend. Lucky for you, you were now getting to experience it first-hand.
“I can ask Jongin to swap, if you really don’t want to room with me,” came a soft voice from your right. Baekhyun regarded you with an expectant, if somewhat hesitant expression.
“No, it’s okay,” you replied, trying your best to mask the panic that was fighting its way into your voice. It would be just your luck, that he would think your reluctance to share a sleeping space with him was because you didn’t like him enough, and not that you liked him a little too much. The slight furrow in his brow seemed to melt away with your words. “I just wanted the big room with the queen bed, but somehow Chanyeol got it. I seriously think he did something to these,” you said, waving your slip of paper that matched the one he was holding.
Come to think of it, you and Baekhyun had also been the last ones to draw out of the hat, since Chanyeol had insisted on going counter-clockwise around the dining table. How he managed to game the room allocations was beyond you, but you were now almost certain that he did.
“It’s good that he’s by himself though. The snoring would drive anyone mad,” Baekhyun mused, and you had to chuckle in agreement.
“That time he passed out at my place after Saturday drinks…I genuinely thought I’d end up with a murder charge that night.” you said, chest squeezing at the way his eyes crinkled into crescent moons at your words. You busied yourself with your own bag, hoping he wouldn’t see the dumb smile on your face, and be able to tell how pleased you were to have teased a laugh out of him. Laughter was not something he usually withheld — he gave it freely, if not a little too generously — but it always did a funny thing to your heart when you were the cause of it.
“Definitely can’t have that. Pretty face like yours would not last a day in jail.” With one hand around his own duffle, he draped the free one around your shoulders, letting the warmth of his arm wrap around you as you headed down the corridor to the room you’d be sharing for the weekend.
Having a crush on Baekhyun was no big deal. Probably even normal, if his college days were anything to go by. But what made it so debilitating was things like this — the little comments he’d throw around that could easily be passed off as just friendly flirting if you were so inclined, though you sometimes let yourself imagine his intentions came more from the flirting than the friendly part. He was a generally touchy person too, never missing a chance to pat Kyungsoo’s ass when the opportunity arose, but sometimes the brush of his fingers against the inside of your wrist felt a little too affectionate for two people united solely through friendship, even if you were the only one who internally crossed that line a while ago. It was things like this that made you question, every once in a while, if your feelings were as one-sided as you believed. Most of the time though, you chalked it up to his disposition, his easy-going magnetism, and concluded that whatever signals you thought he was sending were merely due to your overactive imagination running wild with hopes that he felt the same way.
“Dibs left,” he said, plopping down on the twin bed closer to the window. His arms raised above his head in a long, yawning stretch, revealing a thin strip of skin at the waistband of his jeans. Just the sight of it was enough to control your blood, sending a rush of it to your face, and you internally cursed yourself for being so weak to such a small thing. It was obvious you had been alone for way too long. He was too comfortable to notice the flush on your cheeks, eyes shut and enjoying the tension leaving his body after the long drive up.
You sat yourself down carefully on the remaining bed, noting the gap between the two mattresses. Whether you wanted to push them together or against opposite walls of the room, you couldn’t be sure. It was hard to form coherent thoughts when he turned to you with a boyish playfulness that curled the corner of his mouth upwards.
“You’re not going to sleepwalk your way into my bed, are you?” he asked, chin in his hand, a teasing glint in his eyes. You tried hard to catch yourself from choking on your own saliva.
“I’ve been known to kick in my sleep,” was your reply, voice much more nonchalant than you thought you were capable of, given that he had just planted the seed of the two of you sharing a twin mattress that was definitely not big enough to lie down on without touching in at least three different places. The glint in his eyes faded immediately, giving way to thinly-veiled concern at the threat underlying your words.
“I was kidding,” you clarified when he sat up and started to back away from you. “At least, I haven’t done that for fifteen or so years. But you never know, it might come back again tonight, when you’ve finally fallen asleep, and then BAM! Foot to the face. You better sleep with your eyes open, Byun Baekhyun,” you warned, giggling at the realisation dawning over his face before his pretty features settled into mock annoyance.
“You just think you’re so funny, don’t you?” He was on all fours now, making his way towards you with a wolfish grin. In no time, he had crawled over the gap between your two beds and suddenly his fingers were prodding at your ribs. It was a well-planned tickle attack, and one you had no chance of escaping from, since his legs had caged you in and the rest of him was pinning you down. You were helpless against the ambush of his fingers, succumbing to them with gasping giggles, punctuated by desperate pleas for him to stop. He showed no intention of letting up, fingers digging even deeper into your waist.
If you were going to die like this, you thought, at least you’d be dying while lying under him.
“When you two are done canoodling, we’re going to go set up on the beach,” came a voice from the doorway. Baekhyun’s merciless fingers paused, and the two of you looked back to see Chanyeol’s amused face at the foot of your bed, smirking like he knew some big secret that neither of you were privy to. God, you were seriously regretting that third glass at Jongdae’s new apartment last month.
Baekhyun turned back to you, your noses almost touching, and you could feel the air from his exhales fanning against the skin of your cheek. There was a mole just above the corner of his mouth that you don’t think you had ever noticed before. Warmth from his jean-clad legs radiated into your hips and meandered up and down your spine, and suddenly the late summer air around you was becoming sticky and heavier than usual.
As if just now noticing the proximity you were in, he slowly untangled himself from your limbs, making sure not to crush you in the process. You sat up, still breathless, having just calmed down enough for full inhales again, but so was he, you noted. Surely tickling wasn’t that exertive of an activity? Or maybe you’d put up a better fight than you had thought.
“Don’t forget your towels,” was the last thing Chanyeol said before he ducked out, yelling at Jongin to grab the beach umbrellas, not the rain ones. There were a few seconds just filled with the sounds of your slowing breathing.
“I’m going to go get changed,” Baekhyun said, turning around to dig through his bag for his swim shorts. You couldn’t see his expression, but you could hear the slight tremble in his voice that indicated he hadn’t quite recovered from whatever was afflicting him. “We’ll probably just be setting up the umbrellas, so no rush, just come down when you’re ready.” As he turned around to head towards the bathroom, he flashed you that familiar smile, the one that always resulted in one of your own to mirror his, and set you at ease again.
“And make sure you bring your sunscreen,” he added, before disappearing down the hallway. You watched him go, throwing yourself back onto the bed with a frustrated groan once you were sure he was out of earshot. Two whole days and nights in this tiny room, in the languid death of summer, with his body just an arm’s length away from yours — you had no idea how much of this you could stomach and emerge with your sanity intact.
This was shaping up to be the longest weekend ever.
Tumblr media
The afternoon sun was unforgiving when you emerged from the house. Though you had thrown on a cover up before leaving, you could feel the heat tingling on the surface of your skin through the thin cotton. From the top of the bushy path leading down to the beach, you could already hear the tell-tale signs of a competition brewing between the boys, even if you couldn’t quite see them yet. A few steps down and you could make out their figures, managing to catch the view of Chanyeol flipping backwards off the jetty before plunging into the water, where the rest of them were bobbing around. Baekhyun’s voice floated above the others the way it always did when he was teasing, liltingly distinguishable, though perhaps that was only because you were now so attuned to it that other voices naturally started to sound more foreign.
It was hard to pinpoint exactly when he went from Baekhyun, your friend who tended to get a little too rowdy after half a can of beer, to Baekhyun, your friend who made your heart pick up a little faster when you thought of him. One day his hiccuping laugh was teetering on the edge of obnoxiousness, and then all of a sudden it became endearing to hear the raw joy in his voice. If you knew exactly when the switch flipped, maybe you’d be able to retrace your steps and stop yourself from ever setting off down this path to end up where you were now, watching the sunlight glisten against his wet face with an overwhelming affection, wondering what it would be like to be the private audience of his radiant smile everyday.
You set your things down on the sand next to the pile of clothes and towels that were already there, recognising Chanyeol’s hat somewhere in the mix. The beach umbrella that Jongin had set up was already beginning to lurch towards one side, the brim rather close to the ground. Fixing it back in place and digging it into the sand a little deeper, you let out a fond laugh — some things, like the way Jongin used his hands like they weren’t his own, would stand the test of time.
You had hoped that your friendship with Baekhyun would be one of those things, but the more time you spent casting longing glances his way when he wasn’t looking, the more you weren’t sure if you could ever recover from his rejection if you ever did decide to be honest about your feelings towards him. So you did your best to bury them, content to enjoy his company in the way you were both familiar with, afraid that if they did surface, they’d taint your friendship with something unpleasant and irreversible. If you couldn’t own the sun, at least you could still revel in its warmth.
Satisfied with the position of your towel underneath the shade of the umbrella, you looked back at the water, returning Baekhyun’s sweeping wave with a small one of your own. It was just enough of a distraction for Chanyeol to turn around as well, and Baekhyun seized the opportunity to dunk him, gleefully howling as the taller boy’s head disappeared below the waves. Before Chanyeol could resurface and enact his retaliation, Baekhyun was already making his escape, swimming towards the shore with fearful determination. Chanyeol made to follow, but upon seeing you sitting on the beach with your eyes fixed on Baekhyun’s approaching figure, he thought better of it, turning back around to continue the diving evaluation as Jongin took his turn to leap off the jetty.
With an amused smile, you watched as Baekhyun hurried out of the ocean, wet hair flying in all directions and flicking droplets of seawater across the sand. The water trickled down the planes of his bare torso, and you tried to keep your eyes away from the firmness of his pec, or the flexing movements of his abdominals as he made his way over to you. One thing was for sure — the gym sessions with Chanyeol were paying off.
When he finally reached you, Baekhyun slumped onto your towel, ignoring your protests for him to stay away, and proceeded to soak you in the remaining water that was still clinging to his body. The skin of his stomach was cool against your calf, and he giggled delightfully at your attempts to push him off to avoid getting more water onto your clothes.
“Stop trying to fight it, you’re going to get wet when you go in anyway,” he said, finally rolling off you.
“I wasn’t planning on going in. I’m scared you’ll try to drown me,” you huffed, lightly flicking some sand onto his shoulder with your toe. He turned back around, chin cradled in his left hand, and flashed you a boyish smile.
“I would never do that,” he said, though the glint in his eyes was anything but convincing. “Besides, what are you going to do at the beach if you’re not getting in the water?”
You picked up the book nestled in between your shoes and waved it at him. “Read, of course.” He regarded the worn paperback with amused disbelief, eyebrows slightly raised. It was only when you flipped the book open to the paperclip you’d been using as a bookmark that he realised you were serious, and let out a scoff that was laced with something akin to fondness.
“You are such a cliche. Pretty girl reading at the beach? Unbelievable, seriously,” he said, before wriggling his head into your stomach, relishing in your shocked squeals as your cover up began to dampen again. His mischief had left a few wet patches on the fabric that were beginning to stick to your body in the uncomfortable fashion of late summer. You reached for the hem, pulling it off not without some struggle, and immediately felt the sun kissing against your bare shoulders. Though you were mostly covered by the shade from the umbrella, the last thing you wanted was a blistering sunburn where the straps of your tote bag usually rested, so you grabbed the sunscreen you had so diligently packed and began applying it on the parts of your skin that were exposed.
Baekhyun had gone uncharacteristically quiet. If you had been paying attention to him instead of so attentively rubbing the cream into the underside of your knee, perhaps you would have noticed the way his eyes lingered on you for a little longer than would have been polite. They followed the path your hands took, from the expanse of skin below your neck, across your stomach, and down the length of your legs.
“Do you want me to do your back?” he blurted, his voice a little more strained than usual. He was wearing an odd expression on his face, something you couldn’t quite place, but it was different from the usual playful one you were most well acquainted with. Nevertheless, you agreed, passing him the tube and turning around so your back was facing him.
His fingers were still cold from the water, and you jumped when they first made contact with your skin. He only laughed, squeezing both hands around your shoulders to hold you still before he got back to work again.
The first graze of his hands across your shoulders was tentative. You could feel the heat of him behind your back, the smell of salt and sun clinging to the air around you. His breaths fanned the skin on the back of your neck, sending goosebumps down your arms and legs despite the thick heat of the afternoon. If he noticed, he didn’t say anything. Slowly, his hands made their way down to your lower back, and it was then that you realised you might be in trouble. His hands pressed against the grooves of your spine, curving ever so slightly around your waist, and if you shivered, he pretended not to feel you tremble in his grasp.
It was when his fingers slipped underneath the ties of your bikini top that the alarm bells began to go off in your head. His movements were hesitant, fingers stuttering in their dance across your skin before they gingerly pulled the strings aside to spread the sunscreen between the top and bottom halves of your back. It was too much, feeling his warmth, knowing there was only an inch of space between your bare torsos, having his hands on you doing such a thorough job with the task he had assigned to himself. When the tips of his fingers brushed the side of your ribs, just under the edge of the fabric, you couldn’t help the breathy noise that escaped your lips.
“Actually, I think I left something back at the house,” you said suddenly, words hurriedly running into each other as they tripped over your tongue on the way out of your mouth. Twisting away from his dangerous touch, you bolted to a stand and hoped he’d attribute the pinkness of your cheeks to being outside in the brightness of the afternoon. Your words came out staggered, the slight tremble in your voice betraying the composure you were fighting so hard to maintain.
Baekhyun’s gaze was careful, if not a little confused. The more his eyes ran over you, the more you were sure that the depth of your feelings towards him were beginning to surface on your face. Another second and he’d be able to tell, he’d figure out the little secret you’d been trying to conceal for the last couple of months. And then you wouldn’t be able to deny its existence anymore.
So you fled, tossing a rushed promise to be right back over your shoulder before scurrying up the bushy path again. Away from the scrutiny of his eyes, away from the truth you did not want revealed to the world. The ghost of his touch lingered between your shoulder blades and along the ridges of your spine, your body already committing to memory the caress of his skin against yours. You realised then, that it would not be possible to continue living on as usual, now that you knew the taste of his closeness, as fleeting as it may have been.
Tumblr media
“I think you should just go for it.”
Your fingers tightened around the glass at his words. Chanyeol’s tone was light and pragmatic, speaking as if the act of unfurling your heart were nothing more than a decision about whether to have steak or pork belly for dinner.
“Don’t be ridiculous,” you scoffed, bringing the bottle to your lips.
“I’m serious though,” he continued, nudging your arm with the lip of his own beer. “I think you should just tell him, and see what he says. And stop expecting the worst. You’ll never know how things could turn out if you never do anything.”
You let your head fall back to lean on the doorframe you were both standing against, gazing out at the patio that had begun to darken following the sunset. Baekhyun and Jongin were placed at opposite ends of the ping pong table that had been wheeled out of the living room after dinner, neither seeming to mind the soft prick of grass at the underside of their bare feet. Whether the game was proceeding well was difficult to deduce, since both were sporting wide grins and rosy cheeks, courtesy of the glasses in their hands — but judging by the cluster of orange balls around Baekhyun’s feet, you had an inkling that victory would not be his. He didn’t seem to mind yet, laughing gleefully as Jongin swung his racquet too hard and launched a ball over the fence.
“Not everyone is as good as you when it comes to talking about their feelings, you know,” you said, fixing Chanyeol with a knowing look that was halfway between admiration and resentment. If you only had his courage of expression, perhaps you would’ve put an end to your suffering a while ago. Ripped the band-aid off cleanly instead of peeling away at it, day by day, bit by bit, until it was hanging on by the last of its adhesive. You weren’t sure how much longer your resolve could last, if it would even survive this weekend without snapping under the force of your attraction.
He only shrugged. “You can’t get good without actually doing it.” You pondered his words in the short silence that settled while you both took another sip. He was right, of course, you knew that, but it didn’t make hearing it any easier.
“I think… I’m just scared,” you began slowly. Realising you were about to put his advice into action, Chanyeol turned to you with reassuring and patient eyes, waiting. You took a deep breath, swinging the contents of your bottle back and forth, and continued, “I’m scared that if I do tell him, it’s going to change our relationship and then I’ll lose him completely. At least if I don’t say anything, he’s still my friend, and I get to keep being in his life.”
He regarded you for a moment, brows furrowed thoughtfully, as he decided on his next words. It was no easy feat to try on honesty the way you just did, having so carefully avoided it for your entire life, and he was well aware of it. The slight tremble in your hands was a dead giveaway.
“And I think that’s completely understandable,” he finally said. “There’s always going to be a trade-off, no matter what you choose to do. But I guess you have to weigh up which one means more to you, and if you’re willing to take that risk on the chance that it does work out between you two. I’m only telling you what I think you should do. You’re the one who knows your own feelings the best.”
Another silence fell over the two of you again. Your bottle was nearly empty now, the beer inside already lukewarm from being out of the cooler for too long. Jongin let out a cheer as the ball sailed over his head, landing far behind him on the grass and ignoring Baekhyun’s flagrant attempts at contesting the point. Even under the patio lights, he was still so pretty, cheeks pink and glowy, the shape of his mouth so endearing as it settled into a pout. By now, you were used to the longing, and paid it no mind as it filled your chest with a bittersweet warmth.
“Aren’t you two best friends though?” you asked, the thought suddenly occurring to you. “You’re telling me you don’t know anything about how he feels about… whatever is going on?” The look you gave Chanyeol was suspicious, but he stood strong, resisting your prying eyes.
“I wouldn’t be much of a best friend if I went around blabbing to you about his feelings, would I?” was his response, accompanied by an elusive smile. There was something in his words that lingered in your mind, some important detail you felt as if you had overlooked, but his amused expression gave you nothing to hold onto. “You’re both so clueless,” he chuckled after a beat of your thoughtful silence, downing the rest of his drink.
Baekhyun was skipping over now, having officially lost 18-21 to Jongin, who was heartily celebrating his victory with a series of hoots and giggles. He headed straight for you, hair all messed up from running his hands through it during the game, and a rosy flush to his face, though you weren’t sure if that was from the game or the glass that he had left at the ping pong table. When he wrapped his arms around you and buried his head in your shoulder, you knew that it was probably the latter.
“I lost the game,” he whined, petulant and firm against you. His hair tickled your chin, and you could smell the faint scent of his shampoo from his shower after the beach.
“Are you drunk already?” you asked, trying to mask your breathlessness at his proximity with a few giggles. Baekhyun’s affinity for physical contact was the worst — or best, depending on how you looked at it — when he had alcohol in his system, and it didn’t take much to push him past the borders of sobriety. His ache for touch and affection was most often relieved on you, and you always obliged, gladly and readily letting him take whatever it was he wanted.
The tip of his nose brushed back and forth against your skin as he shook his head. “Just a little, tiny bit,” he said, voice muffled, and you felt the warmth of his breath through your t-shirt.
“Where’s the love for your best friend?” Chanyeol teased, the only one amused at the way Baekhyun had dived straight into your arms without even sparing him a glance.
The boy in your arms didn’t even falter, only snuggling further into you. “You know it’s because she’s my favourite,” he murmured, lips skimming your collarbone ever so softly as he spoke. The panic onset was instantaneous, and you prayed he was too drunk to pick up on the sudden rapid thundering of your heartbeat inside your chest. You tried to look at Chanyeol for help, but he was setting off across the patio, taking up Jongin on his invitation for a match with the promise that he would wipe the floor with the younger boy.
Baekhyun only hummed contentedly, oblivious to the havoc he was wreaking inside you, tightening his hold around you when you made a half-hearted attempt to wriggle out of his arms. His pink lips set into another rounded pout, brows slightly creased as he pulled back to look at you.
“You know you’re my favourite, right?” he asked, trying to be convincing despite the slight slur to his words. You could only nod, letting a small smile twist the corners of your mouth upwards. Whether he realised or meant what he was saying, you weren’t all that concerned, simply happy to bask in the warmth of his full attention knowing it was probably just nonsensical babble brought on by the drink in his belly. It was so much easier to be close to him when he was like this, hazier, and sure to forget most of what he had said the morning afterwards. It didn’t hurt that you were also starting to feel a little blurrier around the edges, the beer from earlier making its way through your system and leaving behind a pleasant fuzziness that made it all the more tempting to come clean about your feelings. But you weren’t quite there yet, and you had no plans to get to that point tonight.
Seemingly satisfied with your answer, he curled back up into you. With your hands around his back, you could feel the steady rhythm of his heart, the comfortingly even beat of it through his rib cage. It was so easy to imagine this was the way it had always been, and would always be, so easy to slip into the fairytale you often found yourself fabricating when your one-sided longing became too much to contain. It would be so nice if you could live in this moment forever, you thought. But was this small pocket of peace worth risking your entire friendship?
“I wish you’d stop running away from me,” he murmured, or at least that’s what you thought he said. It was a little difficult to concentrate when his lips were grazing your skin again, lightly feathering across your neck as the words shaped his mouth on their way out of it.
And then you felt it, the unmistakable and deliberate press of his lips against your collarbone, the gentle pressure and the slight moisture on your skin from it searing through you like a lit trail of gasoline. This time, he had to have heard the stilted gasp that escaped your mouth.
He lifted his head slowly to look at you again, searching your face with glassy eyes — for what, you weren’t quite sure. The only things you were sure of right now were the fiery burn in your cheeks, and the deafening pounding of your heart that echoed between your ears.
“Sorry, I shouldn’t have done that,” he said, though his expression was nowhere near as apologetic as his words would have you believe. If anything, his gaze on you was almost daring, waiting to see how you’d respond, if you’d shrink back into yourself like you always did when he got too close and crossed that invisible boundary you only danced around. If you’d run away from him the way he had just said he wished you wouldn’t. Or if you’d let him push you over too, just this once.
Seeing the hesitation in your face, he slowly extricated from you, retracting his limbs and warmth until they hung limply by his sides again. Scratched the back of his head. Let his eyes wander around the patio and settle on anything except for you.
“I’m going to see if Kyungsoo needs any help with cleaning up,” he said quietly, not waiting for your response as he headed back into the house. The drink had made his gait unsteady, and you felt him sway against the doorframe as he brushed past you. A chilling unease began to settle in the pit of your stomach as you watched him go, the shape of his back getting smaller and smaller as he was swallowed by the light of the living room.
Try as you might, you couldn’t shake the feeling that something had shifted, and that there was a possibility it had not been in the direction you had hoped for.
Tumblr media
Perhaps the second glass of wine had been a little overambitious, you realised, staring up at the ceiling of your shared bedroom. Kyungsoo had been so excited about the 2012 Shiraz he had brought from home, pouring you a full glass with an enthusiasm he didn’t often display. You couldn’t say no, and you didn’t protest when he refilled it a short while later. If he noticed the faster-than-usual speed with which you drained its contents, he did not show it. Whilst alcohol tended to put people to sleep, it had the opposite effect on you, dangling sleep in front of you like a carrot you could never get a hold of easily, or for long. That second glass of wine was the reason you were lying in bed, not soundly asleep like you wished, but keenly aware of every breath and every movement from the other occupant of the room, only an arm’s length away from you.
Baekhyun had spent most of the night with Chanyeol out on the patio, drinking and laughing under the generous light of the moon. Even if he wasn’t purposely avoiding you, you felt his absence from your side sorely. He didn’t say much during the wind down for bed either, only asking if you wanted the curtains fully shut, to which you gave an affirmative. Still, a sliver of moonlight speared through the gap between them, illuminating the room just enough that if you turned your head to the side, you could make out the outline of his body beneath the covers and acquaint yourself with the familiar curve of his nose.
It was only fair that the wine, having taken your sleep, offered something in return to mark an honourable trade. That something manifested itself in the restlessness of your mouth, which battled against the remaining rationality of your mind. Loose-lipped and anxious, you dug your nails into the palm of your hand, willing the war inside your head to approach a ceasefire. You did not want to make a fool of yourself in the intimacy of this small room.
However, your resolve could not last for long, corroded by the hours spent without his presence, without the familiar warmth of his touch, without his little comments meant only for you as he pointed out something silly or poked fun at Jongin’s whining. Barely above a whisper, you called out his name, letting your voice permeate the darkness. It was loud enough that he’d hear it above the silence, but soft enough that he could ignore it if he so wished, and you’d attribute his ignorance to the deepness of sleep.
There was a second of silence, which he followed with an answering hum and a shuffle of his legs on the mattress. He was awake, and he was waiting for you to speak.
“Are you mad at me?” you asked the ceiling.
“No, I’m not mad at you,” was his reply, accompanied by a quiet sigh. He was conversing with the ceiling too, just as reluctant to face you.
Your hands twisted the sheets in dissatisfaction. The even tone of his voice indicated truth, but his answer didn’t explain why he had spent the whole night outside without calling for you even once, when he usually couldn’t last half an hour without pressing into your side and tickling your shoulder to grab your attention.
“Then what?” you probed, cringing at the whiny edge to your voice.
He was quiet for a while, letting your words hang in the air, that for a moment you thought he wouldn’t speak, that your brief conversation had already come to an end, and you’d be left with unanswered questions as bedside companions for the night. There was another rustling from his side of the room as he settled himself under the covers.
“Sometimes, I think I want too much from you,” he finally said. He was quiet, but you heard every word with the clarity as if they had been projected through a stereo system. “And you can’t give me everything I want, but that’s not your fault. It’s an indication of my own greed and selfishness more than anything else.”
You kicked around at your sheets to signal your unrest at his words. “I don’t think you are greedy or selfish. At all. At least not with me.” If anything, you were the selfish one, wanting all his smiles and touches for yourself, wanting the entire spectrum of his existence to only ever be shown to you. Your generosity only ever came to light when it was in service of him, gladly letting him take your attention, your time, allocating space in your mind for him and him only.
Baekhyun only laughed a soft and short laugh at your reply, the sound so different from the usual one filled with boisterous joy that you had grown the most used to. You heard him turn over in his bed to face you. In the quiet darkness of the room, the focus of his gaze flooded over you, and the intensity of it was so blinding you didn’t dare to look away from the smoothness of the ceiling, fearing you’d smoulder into ash the moment you locked eyes with him.
“You know that you are a really important person to me. You know that, right?” he asked, eyes searing into you with the force of a thousand suns. “I mean, everyone else is also important because they’re my friends, but you’re different — you are a special person to me. I don’t see you the way I see Chanyeol, or Jongin, or anyone else.”
His words were still tinged with the slight slur of the beer from out on the patio, but you could feel the delicate care with which they were chosen and spoken. Something was different about tonight. You could taste it in the thick air between the two of you, feel it in the wire-taut tension stretching across the gap between your two twin beds. Your fingers dug into the comforter, willing the turbulence in your chest to subside.
He paused and took a deep breath, as if bracing himself against something devastating. “I don’t want the same things with them as I do with you.”
You held your breath until you felt the pain of deprivation in your chest.
“But I’ve made peace with the fact that what I want from you, and the way I feel about you, are things I’ll have to carry with me. They’re things I have to bear the weight of alone. I don’t — I would never want you to be uncomfortable, or see me differently.” There was a slight catch in his voice at the end.
You didn’t even know if your lungs were still working while you listened to him speak. There was a surrealness to the night, as if everything had been covered in a blanket of haze and everything that was transpiring was the product of a fever-induced dream, existing on an alternate timeline.
Baekhyun… it didn’t even feel right thinking it.
Baekhyun had feelings for you? And he had convinced himself it was one-sided?
“It’s pretty selfish, isn’t it? Asking you to act like things between us won’t change after everything I just said,” he laughed, but there was little humour in the sound. You finally turned your head to look at him, the wry curve of his mouth catching the moonlight as he gazed at you. He was smiling, the shape of it meant to comfort you, but he could not hide the sadness weaved into the downturn of his eyes. He had always been braver than you, perhaps not in the aspect of riding roller-coasters, but certainly in his ability to be honest and open about his emotions, regardless of whether they were good or bad.
It was your turn to be brave now, and shed your own fear to meet him where he stood.
“I’ve been seeing you differently for a while now,” you admitted, turning under the sheets to fully face him. You were grateful for the darkness, hoping that it would conceal the heat creeping up your neck and face, painting your cheeks with a hot blush that accompanied the start of your confession. His brows furrowed slightly as he tried to process your words, confusion settling in the crease between them. You held yourself back from reaching out to smooth them over.
“What do you mean?”
“What makes you think you’re the only one who feels this way?” you asked instead, leaving his question unanswered. There was a tremble in your voice as you spoke, and you were sure he heard it above the quiet of your bedroom. It was the closest you could get to telling him without actually telling him about the silent battle that had been raging in your head for the last few months.
This was it, you thought. He had to know now.
“Am I not?”
The weight of his stare pressed against you, drawing you to him with the tangible pull of gravity. The eyes that roamed your face had replaced their previous confusion with questioning, and a glimmer of something akin to hope. He had never looked more beautiful and devastating than he did right now. You felt the light of dawn breaking over your skin, a promise of something new and good sure to follow. Its warmth simmered within you, staving off the chill of the late summer night with a heat that had you pushing off your covers in a hurried frenzy and rising to sit on the edge of your bed, toes just grazing the floorboards beneath you. Would you still have had the same nerve to face him in the daylight, rough and exposed without the lulling comfort of darkness? Would he still look at you, unpolished and flawed in the clarity of the sun, the same way, with the reverence of man at the sight of an angel?
Baekhyun mirrored you and sat up on his own bed, slowly, as if not wanting to spook you, fearing you’d run off and retreat back into the confined familiarity of your own head. His knees knocked against yours in the small space between your two mattresses. You jolted at the feeling of his skin on yours, having gone without it for so long that the mere touch was like the first drop of water after emerging from the desert. He made to move away, trying to shuffle across the length of the bed, but stilled at the hand you placed just over his knee, willing him to stay put. Surely, he could feel the beat of your heart thrumming through your fingertips.
It was your turn to be brave now.
Fueled by the second glass of Shiraz and the muted encouragement of darkness, before you could second guess yourself and overthink every possible negative outcome of what you were about to do, you closed your eyes and leant towards him. Slowly, inch by inch, until your journey ended with the soft, tentative press of your lips against his. It was short and chaste, nothing more than a gentle pressure, and you pulled back when you felt his lips part in surprise.
“Does that answer your question?” you whispered, heart in your throat.
There it was. You had gone and done it.
His eyes were closed, and in the dim moonlight peeking through the curtain, you could almost make out each of his eyelashes, fluttering dark and soft against the smooth skin of his cheek. For a few seconds, the room was filled only with the sounds of your breathing as you waited for his reaction, for the consequences of your actions and what that meant for your friendship with him.
Then you heard it — his soft laugh, coloured with appreciative disbelief, and felt the air of it caress your face. The corners of his mouth curved upwards into a small, pleased smile. His eyes blinked open slowly, taking you in with a hunger that had desire curling in the pit of your stomach.
“You are just so…” he began, but you never found out just exactly what you were. He was already pulling you back into him, slotting his mouth against yours like they were always made to fit perfectly together. This time, the kiss was anything but chaste, the sheer force of it enough to scorch your insides down to your bones. His arm wrapped around your waist, pulling you flush towards him, and your knees parted around his thighs to adjust to the new position. Your own hands found purchase in the softness of the hair at the nape of his neck, desperate for something to anchor yourself to, in fear that the realisation of this moment would somehow make it slip away.
This was what it felt like to stand unafraid and bare in the light of unbridled wanting, to consume and be consumed by a ravenous appetite with no propensity for satiety. When his hands slipped past the hem of your sleep tank, fingertips grazing across the skin of your lower back, you were sure you could erupt into flames. He swallowed the breathy noise that escaped your lips, tongue brushing against yours as he claimed your mouth with his own.
This was what it felt like to hold the sun in the palm of your hand.
When you broke apart to catch your breaths, his eyes were bright, lips plump and swollen, chest heaving beneath your hands. Somehow, you had ended up back on his bed, his head against the pillows, hands under your shirt and keeping you close to him with an unforgiving hold. He was gazing up at you with a devotion that made your heart swell even more than it did pulling oxygen back into your lungs.
“I’ve wanted to do that for a really long time,” he admitted, hiding his head into the crook of your shoulder. You felt his abashed smile against your skin and wondered how it could be possible that you had contained all of this, the longing, the yearning, inside you for so long.
“How long?” you asked, hearing the smile in your own voice.
“Since Chanyeol’s birthday, when you wore that brown sweater with the little bow on the back.”
Last year, Chanyeol had gotten everyone together at his place for a nice dinner and wine followed by a binge watch of all the Iron Man movies in one sitting. It was all going according to plan until a quarter of the way into the third one, when he began snoring at his own birthday gathering. The bowl of popcorn was sliding out of his hands and sure to make a buttery mess all over the rug, and that’s when the rest of you decided to turn the television off and call it a night. Sehun and Jongin tasked themselves with getting the birthday boy into bed, and likely collapsed onto it with him immediately after, while Baekhyun had offered you the couch, assuring you he’d be fine with the blankets on the floor. At the time, you hadn’t thought much of it. As chaotic as he could be, Baekhyun was nothing if not kind, and you had been grateful that his kindness had always extended to you over the three years you had known each other.
“But that was more than half a year ago. Why didn’t you say something sooner?”
His fingers prodded into your sides, eliciting a few choked giggles from you. “I didn’t know how you’d react. You know you’re not the most expressive person on the planet,” he said dryly. “Or the most observant. I literally frenched your collarbone and you’re telling me you didn’t realise I liked you more than as a friend?”
“Okay, well when you put it like that,” you huffed, feeling the vibrations of his laugh through his chest. “But you really didn’t know I had feelings for you? Chanyeol never said anything?”
His movements stilled, leaning back into the pillows so he could lock eyes with you again. “You talk to Chanyeol about me?” he asked, to which you nodded sheepishly. “Since when?”
“Last month, Jongdae’s housewarming. He fished it out of me after dinner,” you sighed, picturing his smug grin under the lights of Jongdae’s fancy new kitchen when you realised that you had slipped up and let him in on your little secret.
“But I talk to him about you.”
You looked at each other for another beat, realisation breaking over the both of you, before dissolving into another fit of disbelieving giggles. Maybe Park Chanyeol did know how to keep his mouth shut after all.
“So he’s a terrible wingman, is what I’m getting out of this whole thing,” Baekhyun chuckled, rolling you over so you were now lying on your side, face to face with him. He planted a slow, sweet kiss on your lips, taking his time to acquaint himself with the shape and taste of your mouth, and you felt the contentment of his smile against you. “I can’t believe we could have gotten together a month ago. Some best friend he is.”
“Gotten together?” you echoed, one eyebrow raised in feigned dispute, delighting in the way his sweet mouth settled into the pout that you adored.
“You mean to tell me that you don’t want to be with me after your tongue was all up in my mouth?”
You pushed his face away, groaning, “Gross, don’t say it like that.” He, however, had different plans, hooking a calf behind your knees and tugging you back into him, before weaving the other leg in between your own.
“You know you like it,” he murmured into your neck, squeezing his arms around you just in case you’d disappear if he didn’t hold on tight enough. One hand traced absent-minded circles over the grooves of your spine as he breathed you in, warm and familiar against your chest.
Yes, you thought, you’d risk any and everything for this exact moment. It was worth all the doubt and heartache, all the time spent replaying those moments in your head, unsure of the meaning behind his actions. You could be sure of it now.
“I do,” you agreed, threading your fingers through the softness of his hair. “I probably more than like you,” you added, tilting his face upwards to steal another kiss, giddy and chest swelling with affection. Perhaps you weren’t quite yet ready for that other four letter word, but you had no doubt you would be one day, and soon. He was all too willing to comply, letting his mouth mould against yours with the poise and patience of a saint.
“I probably more than like you too,” he replied, punctuating his confession with one final kiss to the tip of your nose. It was enough for the serene smile on your face to persist, even past the arrival of sleep.

“I knew it.
You cracked one eye open, trying to adjust to the light flooding in through the open door to your room. Chanyeol stood at the foot of your bed, grinning from ear to ear with what could only be described as a look of triumph as he took in the scene before him. The boy next to you stirred lightly, digging his face deeper into the pillow, reluctant to leave the realm of the sleeping. Chanyeol was not in the least sympathetic to his friend’s struggles, striding over to the window and pulling back the curtains with a clang. You winced as the full force of the morning sun barged in, and Baekhyun let out a soft noise of displeasure at the intrusion.
“I fucking knew it,” Chanyeol said again, quickly bringing you to your senses as you registered the weight of another body on top of your own. You made to remove yourself from him, fighting the flush creeping up your neck and face, but it was an effort which proved futile as he only tightened the arm around your waist, loath to let you go.
“Can you be quiet? You’re going to wake the whole house,” you hushed, finally succeeding in untangling your legs from Baekhyun’s, feeling the loss of his warmth immediately.
“They’re already up. I came to call you for breakfast,” Chanyeol replied, the grin seemingly stuck to his face. “Which actually reminds me,” he began, before sticking his head out of the doorway to holler, “You better pay up, Jongin. And you too, Kyungsoo!”
“You bet on us?” came the groggy voice from the pillows behind you.
“What the hell, Chanyeol? I thought you said you didn’t go around blabbing about his feelings!” you exclaimed, indignant.
“To you. I never said anything about telling anyone else,” was his reply, smug and victorious at having outsmarted you.
Kyungsoo appeared in the doorway, donning a flour-covered apron, as if to confirm for himself that he was in fact a debtor to the taller boy. “Even if he didn’t say anything, it wasn’t all that hard to figure out,” he said lightly, surveying the room with curiosity and paying no mind to the shock painted on your face. How had everybody known about your now not-so-secret crush on Baekhyun except for the man himself? “Anyways, I only said that it would be unlikely to happen over this weekend, not that it was impossible. So Jongin is the only loser. Now come for pancakes.” And with that, he headed back towards his bowl of batter on the kitchen counter, chuckling at the sound of Jongin’s complaints against fulfilling his end of the wager.
Baekhyun, having somewhat freed himself from the clutches of sleep, rose to a sitting position and shot a drowsy scowl at his friend. “You’re kind of an asshole, you know that right?”
But even the expletive could not put a damper on Chanyeol’s mood, his smile never slipping. “You two should honestly be thanking me,” he said, to which you also shot him a glare. “Also, I’m happy for you and everything, but can you please keep the PDA to a minimum in front of the rest of us? I will lock you out of the house if you don’t.”
Baekhyun turned to you, the creases of the frown on his face slowly but surely smoothing out as he took you in, cheeks puffy and hair a mess from having just woken up. He had seen you in worse states, and definitely in better states, but none of that seemed to matter as he regarded you with nothing but fondness in his eyes. You were sure that your expression mirrored his, affection spreading throughout your entire body, reaching even the tips of your fingers and toes, at the sight of his tousled bed head, the sleepy droop of his eyes, the sweet pinkness of his lips.
The sun was yours. There was no feasible way to stop the smile from blooming across your entire face.
“No promises.”

Kiss me (more)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Pairing: Heeseung × Gn!reader (established relationship)
Genre: fluff, drabble (<1k. words)
Prompt: “Every time I dive I leave my heart with you. If you like it you can keep it all”
Warnings: skinship, heeseung is in love, not proofread
A/n: a birthday gift for myself and also to celebrate Baekhyun's new album!! | Daily click
Tumblr media
Heeseung's second favourite thing in the whole world is to kiss you.
When you're both home after a tiring day, just like now, and he has you in his arms and you're just so close, he could die a happy man. He loves when you smile and giggle in the middle of a kiss. He loves when you play with his hair with so much love. He loves that he can feel every bit of you, making it so real. There's not a single flaw he could pinpoint - everything felt like heaven when you were kissing him.
However, that still is his second most favourite thing. The first one is when the lack of breathing creates some distance between you two, and he can see you so closely.
Actually, no, that's not it. As much as he loves to admire you so up close, he prefers to look into your eyes.
It's cliché, and he might never admit it out loud, but your eyes never failed to hypnotise him. Every time you'd look at him, looking like you could tell all the secrets he held in himself, he got weak. He could feel himself slowly losing it all, one step to just giving up and dedicating his entire being to you.
He left his heart to you, and he just wished you'd accept it.
But then you smile at his silence and awestruck gaze, and he feels that it might be reciprocal. Maybe he's alive because, although he gave his heart to you, he has your heart instead. And it works for him.
"What's going on inside that mind of yours?" you asked in a whisper, afraid to disrupt the silence.
There were so many things Heeseung could say to answer you. He was thinking about how lucky he was to have you with him now. He was thinking about how many songs he could write just with your eyes as inspiration. He was thinking about how he couldn't properly think whenever you were around. He was thinking about you, you and you. Always you.
For sure, there were a lot of possible answers he could have given you. Instead, he pulls you closer, with a hand in your cheek, and kisses you once more, hoping to initiate the cycle all over again. And by the way you kissed him back, he believes you accepted his reply.

“I’m gonna fuck you ‘til you can’t walk.”
Jungkook smirks as Taehyung whimpers and tosses back his pretty blonde head. Jungkook has him pressed to the wall with one of his legs hiked up and hooked over Jungkook’s hip, opening him up so Jungkook can grind their clothed cocks together.
They’re both hard, Taehyung in his straight-leg jeans and Jungkook in light gray sweatpants that leave little to the imagination. Not that Taehyung needs to imagine what Jungkook’s cock looks like; he’s seen Jungkook naked plenty of times in the few months they’ve been hooking up.
Although the foyer of Taehyung’s apartment is dark, the moon casts enough light through the windows to illuminate the men as they rut against each other. It’s Jungkook’s first time here, but he’s too preoccupied to look around.
Despite their familiarity with each other, Taehyung is still shy around Jungkook. He squeezes his eyes shut when Jungkook sucks hickeys against his throat as though he’s afraid to see how devoutly Jungkook wants to devour him, chin tilted to the ceiling, and pretty pink lips parted so more whimpers can slip from them. A blush spreads across Taehyung’s cheeks like spring tulips in bloom, and Jungkook wonders how he possibly got so lucky to have something so sweet.
Jungkook nips at the curve of Taehyung's ear, and Taehyung curls his long, pretty fingers around Jungkook’s shoulders to hold himself up. Taehyung’s innocence makes Jungkook want to bite into him even deeper.
“Taehyung,” Jungkook whispers hoarsely.
“Hmm…?”
“Do you want me to fuck you?”
A breathy whine is Taehyung’s response, and even though it isn’t what Jungkook is looking for, he quietly laughs under his breath.
“You’re so fucking cute, you know that?”
“I’m not,” Taehyung protests with a gentle sigh. It isn’t true, but Jungkook leaves him be.
Jungkook lets go of Taehyung’s thigh to work on unbuttoning his jeans. Once they’re unzipped, he glides one of his hands inside Taehyung’s jeans to palm his ass over his briefs. Using his other hand, he loosens Taehyung’s fingers from his shoulder. He brings Taehyung’s hand to the back of his neck and slowly slides it upward until their intertwined fingers slip through Jungkook’s hair. Curling his fingers, he forces Taehyung to grip his hair and lets out a satisfied groan when Taehyung experimentally tugs on the dark strands.
“Anyone ever fucked you like this?” Jungkook asks in between hickeys sucked along Taehyung’s neck, leading up to the corner of his jaw. “Up against the wall?”
“No,” Taehyung sighs against Jungkook’s lips when he kisses him.
Taehyung’s answer doesn’t surprise Jungkook. Everything they’ve done has been pretty tame, mainly because Taehyung has little experience. Although Jungkook isn’t the type to get off on corruption, there’s no denying how his cock twitches when Taehyung trembles from his touch like it’s the first time he’s been held and kissed.
Jungkook sucks Taehyung’s bottom lip into his mouth and tugs gently, pulling back far enough for Taehyung to chase his mouth. When Taehyung pouts in frustration, Jungkook laughs.
“Stop teasing me.” Taehyung finally opens his eyes, and the blush on his cheeks deepens when he locks eyes with Jungkook.
“Don’t worry, I’ll be nice,” Jungkook promises with a shadow obscuring half his devilish expression.
Surging forward, Jungkook captures Taehyung’s lips again, shoving his tongue in his mouth to swirl it around Taehyung’s. Taehyung’s whimpering gets louder, and Jungkook groans into the kiss. He grinds their hips together even harder, spurred on by how vocal Taehyung is.
“Where are your condoms?” Jungkook asks in a breathy voice. He’s somewhat shocked by how worked up he is with just a bit of kissing and groping.
Their lips lightly brush against each other as they pant, chests heaving in tandem. Taehyung has to clear his throat before he can properly speak.
“What?”
“Your condoms?” It’s Jungkook’s turn to whine. He presses his forehead against Taehyung’s and tries to calm himself down. “You don’t get it, Tae, I need to fuck you so badly. I’ll get them for you. Are they in your bedroom?”
“I… I don’t have any condoms,” Taehyung admits meekly, turning his head to the side to force Jungkook to pull back. “I thought you had some. Y’know, in your wallet or something.”
“Fuck.” Jungkook tips his head back and lets out a drawn-out groan. “God fucking damn it, Taehyung. Why don’t you?”
“I don’t know! We always go over to your apartment; why would I need any here?”
If Jungkook wasn’t uncomfortably hard, he would find it sweet that Taehyung only associates needing condoms with being with Jungkook, meaning he clearly isn’t bringing home anyone else to fuck him. It makes Jungkook’s chest swell, knowing he’s the only one who gets to have Taehyung like this, all pink in the face and disheveled, pretty fingers tangled in his hair and cocks pressed together.
But Jungkook is uncomfortably hard and doesn’t have the patience for this.
“Let’s go.” He shoves his hand down his pants to adjust his cock. There doesn’t appear to be any precum stains on the front, but Jungkook is beyond caring.
“Go where?” Taehyung stumbles forward when Jungkook steps back and releases his grip from Taehyung’s waist.
“To the store to get condoms.”
“W-What? Right now?”
Jungkook looks up at Taehyung as he stomps his feet into his boots.
“Yes, Tae, right now.”
“But, we could just…”
Jungkook raises his eyebrows and stands with his arms against his chest, waiting.
“I could suck you off?”
“Taehyung,” Jungkook sighs and pulls him over to zip up his jeans for him, “I don’t want you to suck me off. I want to fuck you. So, please, put your shoes on so we can go to the store before I start crying.”
Taehyung rolls his eyes, but a small smile plays on his lips as he slips into his shoes. They’re all-white Converse with the backs smashed in from how many times he’s walked around without entirely putting them on. Nearly all of Taehyung’s shoes look like that. Jungkook finds it rather ridiculous, but it’s somehow also endearing.
Much of what Taehyung does is endearing. For example, he lingers in the doorway with Jungkook’s car keys hooked around one of his fingers and his mini leather backpack slung over one shoulder, even though a box of condoms is small enough for Jungkook to carry in his hand. The flush on his face has lessened, and he runs his pretty fingers through his hair to flatten it down. Jungkook enjoys looking at him when he’s put together or ruined.
Outside, the air is thick with humidity from a hot summer rain earlier in the day. This frizzes Taehyung’s hair and dampens Jungkook’s upper lip with perspiration. The weather does nothing to calm the heat building in Jungkook’s groin.
Driving isn’t necessary when the closest 24-hour convenience store isn’t very far away, but Jungkook isn’t interested in getting sweatier than he already is from the short walk from Taehyung’s apartment complex to Jungkook’s parked car.
“Do you like me that much? That you’d go to the store in the middle of the night when it’s so gross outside just because you want to fuck me?”
Taehyung looks at Jungkook curiously, his head slightly cocked to the side and his hands in his back pockets.
Do you like me that much?
Their relationship is about more than just a good fuck, but Jungkook is afraid to say it, and Taehyung is afraid to directly ask. Instead, he skirts around the question, asking others that are parallel but never intersect the way they should if either man wants to be honest.
Instead of answering, Jungkook grabs the strap of Taehyung’s backpack to yank him into a bruising kiss that hopefully tells him everything Jungkook wants to say but can’t.
When they finally reach Jungkook’s car, he holds the door open for Taehyung like a proper gentleman because Taehyung is sweet and soft and deserves the gentlest side of Jungkook, even if Jungkook likes being a little mean when they fuck.
“AUX?” Taehyung asks, already twirling the cord between his fingers once Jungkook slides into the driver’s seat. When Jungkook gives him the okay, he chooses a playlist that Jungkook recognizes after two songs.
“Y'know, I’ve got a Pavlovian response to our sex playlist,” Jungkook comments. He briefly looks at Taehyung before returning his eyes to the relatively empty road as he drives.
“What happens to you?” Taehyung asks like he knows the answer already.
“My dick automatically gets hard.”
“No, it doesn’t!” Taehyung brings his hand up his mouth when he laughs, his lips brushing against the back of it.
“Yes, it does. Want to check if I’m lying?”
Taehyung scoffs, but it only takes a few seconds before he’s palming Jungkook’s thigh. He’s hesitant when he does it and slow once he slides his hand between Jungkook’s thighs to gently squeeze his hard cock.
Taehyung’s next exhale is audibly shaky, and Jungkook grins but doesn’t look away from the road again.
They’re silent the rest of the short drive, Jungkook thinking about Taehyung’s hand on his cock and Taehyung lost in thought while he watches the city lights through the window and nibbles his bottom lip. It’s cute how flustered Taehyung gets, even when he does it to himself.
The embarrassment even follows Taehyung into the store. He tries to avoid standing in the aisle where condoms and other sex-related products are, but Jungkook insists that he helps choose which brand to get.
“What kind do you like? These are the ones I get, but if you want something else, we can try it out,” Jungkook says with a tap of his finger on the box he usually buys – ultra-thin and extra sensitive because he likes feeling as much of Taehyung as he can.
Taehyung skeptically eyes the boxes. He picks up one that boasts a pleasurable texture of ribs and dots on the outside of the condom.
“Does it really make a difference?”
Jungkook scrunches his nose and takes the box from Taehyung to return it to the shelf.
“Everyone I’ve hooked up with has said textured condoms are too thick and don’t feel like anything, or they hurt.”
Taehyung looks away quickly, but Jungkook notices how his expression falls into something sad, and he knows he’s fucked up.
“Tae–”
“Well, I wouldn’t want to bore you by doing the things you’ve already done with everyone else,” Taehyung says curtly. He reaches for a seemingly random box and turns on his heel.
Groaning, Jungkook grabs a bottle of lube and his usual condom brand and follows Taehyung down the aisle.
“Tae.”
“Let’s just go.”
Grabbing Taehyung’s forearm, Jungkook tries to turn him around to face him, but Taehyung yanks his arm out of Jungkooks hold. He watches Taehyung claim one of the self-checkout registers. The force with which Taehyung jabs the touchscreen to select his payment once he scans the lube and two condom boxes is concerning for his index finger, as is how violently he shoves the items into his mini backpack.
“You should have let me pay for them,” Jungkook says quietly once he’s caught up with Taehyung, falling in line with him as they exit the store and walk toward the back of the parking lot. It’s late enough that only a handful of other cars are in the lot, most likely the employees’.
“Why? Do you buy condoms for everyone else?” Taehyung snaps as he squeezes the car door’s handle.
Frustrated with the sour turn their night has taken, Jungkook covers Taehyung’s hand on the handle with his own and crowds Taehyung against the side of the car. A ball of anxiety sinks to the pit of his stomach when Taehyung refuses to look him in the eyes, and Jungkook realizes he’s never considered what it would be like to no longer have Taehyung in his life. He has taken advantage of how dependable Taehyung is, knowing he’ll always be there when Jungkook needs him.
Eventually, people grow tired. Jungkook can see that weariness and wariness in Taehyung’s eyes.
“I bought condoms for everyone else,” Jungkook admits quietly. When Taehyung scoffs, he pushes on, “But I buy condoms for you.”
It’s a horrible way to tell a guy that he likes him, but Jungkook is the first to admit that he’s terrible at this shit. Swallowing a lump in his throat and rubbing his sweaty palms on his pants isn’t enough to calm himself down, but Taehyung’s glare hurts more than the anxious ache in his stomach.
“There isn’t an everyone else, Tae,” Jungkook’s nearly pleading as he tilts his head to follow Taehyung’s gaze when Taehyung tries to look away. “It’s only you. I swear on my life, it’s just you.”
“Really?” Taehyung’s eyes are narrowed, and skepticism taints his pretty features, but Jungkook sees the vulnerability hidden behind the hard exterior Taehyung is so accustomed to crafting.
“Yes,” Jungkook breathes as he leans forward to kiss Taehyung’s forehead. “You can, I don’t know, go through my phone. Read my texts and look at my photos. See that I deleted Grindr. Whatever proof you need.”
Taehyung is silent for a few seconds. Jungkook keeps his lips lightly pressed to his forehead and breathes in the comforting scent of his peppermint and eucalyptus shampoo. He clings to that and finds it grounding when Taehyung’s following words shake him to his core.
“I went on a date with someone,” Taehyung whispers and Jungkook feels his chest constrict. He tries to breathe slowly and lets his grip on Taehyung’s waist slacken slightly.
“How,” Jungkook pauses to clear his throat, “How did it go?”
He feels Taehyung shrug, but he keeps staring out into the empty parking lot.
“Pretty good. He was nice and really cute. We went to lunch and a new art exhibit and then hung out at his place.” Taehyung’s voice is steady as he talks, but there’s an implication behind admitting that he went to this other man’s home.
Jungkook feels like he’s suffocating.
“He wasn’t you, though,” Taehyung whispers as he leans back slightly to look Jungkook in the eyes. “He was nice, but we didn’t click, I guess. He wasn’t thoughtful like you are. His jokes weren’t as funny and his music taste was horrible. And… he didn’t touch me like you do.”
Jungkook bites at his lip piercing and tries to ignore the thunderous sound of his blood rushing to his head. He can’t stop the images that flood his head of some mystery man his imagination conjures for him, touching Taehyung, kissing Taehyung, fucking Taehyung.
That mystery man wouldn’t know that Taehyung can cum untouched but isn’t fully satisfied unless he cums again with external help. He wouldn’t know that he needs to hold Taehyung after because he gets emotional sometimes, especially after a hard fuck. He wouldn’t know that Taehyung worries about being enough and how important it is to affirm him during sex.
“You don’t need to look for what you need in someone else,” Jungkook murmurs as he runs his hands up and down Taehyung’s sides.
Taehyung leans in to whisper against the corner of Jungkook’s mouth, “I need you.”
The kiss Jungkook pulls Taehyung into is frantic and rougher than how Jungkook usually kisses him. He buries one hand in Taehyung’s silky hair and grabs Taehyung’s hip with the other, pushing him against the car so he can mold his body to Taehyung’s. He wants to feel every inch of Taehyung’s body on his, to know that he has all of Taehyung, just him and no one else.
Jungkook loves Taehyung.
He has known it for a long time, but he stamps the truth so deeply inside himself that sometimes he convinces himself that he’s forgotten. But then, in moments like this, when Jungkook is flinging the car door open and crawling over Taehyung’s body as they climb into the backseat, Jungkook is forced to acknowledge the swell of love he feels when Taehyung stares up at him with such a tender expression. Taehyung’s face disappears momentarily, obscured by his t-shirt when he pulls it off and tosses it onto the floor. He slips his hands beneath Jungkook’s shirt and runs his palms up his toned abdomen, stopping when he reaches his pecs to flick his thumbs over his nipples.
“Take this off, please,” Taehyung asks sweetly, and Jungkook is a goner.
The back of the car is cramped, and two grown men trying to maneuver on the narrow seat is more than what the space is made for. They make it work with Taehyung lying on his stomach, his jeans pulled down around his knees. He keeps his legs together so Jungkook can straddle his thighs, one of Jungkook’s legs slipping off the seat and forcing him to half-kneel, half-stand. It’s an awkward position, but Taehyung seems comfortable with their shirts balled up under his lower stomach to lift his hips and his crossed beneath his head, and that’s all Jungkook really cares about.
“Taehyung,” Jungkook whines when he pulls out the random box of condoms from Taehyung’s backpack. “You bought the fucking fire and ice ones. These things will genuinely light my dick on fire.”
Taehyung snorts and turns his head to the side to get a better look at Jungkook.
“I don’t know. I just grabbed it because the colors on the box were pretty.”
Rolling his eyes, Jungkook tosses the box onto the floor and pulls out his preferred brand, tried and true. Setting it to the side, he opens the new bottle of lube and squirts some onto his fingers.
Jungkook assumes the fit will be tight due to Taehyung’s position since his legs are pushed together, but Jungkook is patient. He holds Taehyung open with one hand and rubs his lubed-up fingers against his rim.
Taehyung groans into the crook of his elbow and squirms from the cold lube, but he can’t move with Jungkook’s body weight on him.
“Stay still,” Jungkook murmurs with a light squeeze of Taehyung’s cheek.
The satisfaction of getting a reaction out of Taehyung dissolves when Jungkook easily slips his finger past his rim. With a shaky breath, Jungkook pulls out and adds another finger without resistance.
Taehyung never said when he went on the date, but he’s stretched enough that Jungkook massages his prostate with three fingers after only minimal stretching. He spends some time tapping and swirling his fingertips around his walls until Taehyung tries pushing against Jungkook’s fingers.
“Jungkook, please,” Taehyung whimpers, and something snaps inside Jungkook.
“Jagiya,” Jungkook rarely uses the pet name, but he knows it makes Taehyung quiver when he does. “Say my name again, jagi.”
“Jungkook,” Taehyung moans when Jungkook speeds up his fingers.
The sound of his palm smacking against Taehyung’s asscheek and the squelch of lube harmonizes with Taehyung’s breathy chant of Jungkook’s name. He leans forward until his chest is pressed against Taehyung’s back, and his teeth can graze against the curve of Taehyung’s ear.
“You said he didn’t touch you like I do,” Jungkook repeats and lets out a slight hum when Taehyung nods. “Tell me what you like about how I touch you.”
When Jungkook pulls away, he leaves kisses across Taehyung’s shoulders and down his spine.
“You touch me like I’m special,” Taehyung says softly, his statement punctuated by a quiet whimper when Jungkook pulls his fingers out of him.
“What else?” Jungkook asks before tearing a condom package with his teeth.
“You’re gentle, and you actually care about how I feel. I can trust you,” Taehyung’s voice cracks when Jungkook spreads his cheeks to finally sink his cock into him in one slow but smooth thrust.
Planting one hand on the seat beside Taehyung’s waist and grabbing Taehyung’s waist with the other to press him into the seat, Jungkook leans forward and grinds his pelvis against Taehyung’s ass.
“Fuck,” Jungkook grunts, “Am I too heavy on you?”
Taehyung shakes his head and reaches down to adjust his cock so it rubs against the seat at a comfortable angle every time Jungkook thrusts into him.
Despite being adequately stretched, the position makes Taehyung’s grip on Jungkook’s cock hot and tight. They’ve never fucked like this, with Jungkook straddling Taehyung’s thighs. Even though Jungkook can’t reach as deep as he likes to, the tight heat and softness of Taehyung’s ass, as well as the intimacy of having to hover over Taehyung, makes up for it.
“Feels really good,” Taehyung says softly, his eyes scrunched shut. “You’re right there.”
Jungkook knows what that means. He maintains the current angle of his hips when he thrusts into Taehyung again, the head of his cock hitting Taehyung’s prostate directly.
“Yes, fuck, Jungkook, stay there.”
Taehyung’s moans are pretty, so deep and airy that they seem to whisper a secret meant only for Jungkook. Jungkook should be the only one who gets to hear Taehyung like this. His heart yearns to call Taehyung his own, to be the person Taehyung can go to for support, to give him affection freely without feeling as though this is all just temporary.
It’s why the sex is so good, Jungkook thinks as he picks up the pace, fucking Taehyung just the way he likes it. The pace is hard and fast because Jungkook needs this. He needs to be as close to Taehyung as he possibly can and needs to mold himself until they become one, two halves making a whole. He needs to hear Taehyung moan his name when he’s on the verge of tears because Jungkook fucks into him relentlessly and latches his lips to every inch of bare skin to leave his mark so Jungkook can’t look at Taehyung without remembering that he yearns.
“Can you cum like this?” Jungkook leans down to murmur in Taehyung’s ear, drawing a string of expletives out of Taehyung that are moaned so quietly that Jungkook can hardly make them out.
“Y-Yeah, yeah.”
“Gonna cum on my cock, jagiya? Let me feel how good I am to you?”
Dirty talk embarrasses Taehyung, but Jungkook knows it turns him on anyway.
“I will, I will.”
Taehyung lifts his chin so Jungkook can kiss him. It’s sideways, and Taehyung keeps rocking up and down across the seat from each smack of Jungkook’s body against his, but it feels good to taste Taehyung while he’s inside of him.
Another thing Jungkook knows about Taehyung is that he likes to stretch out. It’s like he builds up tension inside of him, then curls into himself when he cums. It reminds Jungkook of a cat stretching after a long nap. Taehyung doesn’t have much room to do that in Jungkook’s car, but he reaches his arms above his head to grab the edge of the seat and hold himself in place as Jungkook fucks him.
Intertwining their fingers, Jungkook brings one of Taehyung’s arms behind him, bending it at the elbow so his hand rests at the small of his back. Jungkook keeps holding his hand, even when Taehyung starts squeezing it and digging his nails into his skin hard enough to hurt.
“Jungkook,” Taehyung gasps with one particularly hard thrust. “A little faster, please. I’m close.”
“God, you’re so cute, I love you so fucking much.”
The confession is so natural that it slips out without Jungkook even realizing it. The reality doesn’t sink in until he hears Taehyung moan, this time with a higher pitch and whinier, a sound Jungkook has never heard from him before. It sounds broken and desperate.
Surprisingly, Jungkook doesn’t feel the anxiety he thought he would when he considered eventually confessing. Perhaps because it is natural, something that should have happened so long ago.
Jungkook gives Taehyung what he wants, making sure not to hold him down too hard so he can move his hips to meet Jungkook’s thrusts, further stimulating his cock trapped between his body at the seat. It doesn’t matter that Jungkook’s seats are black. When Taehyung cums with a wet, sputtering sob as tears stream down his cheeks, Jungkook knows nothing matters except him making Taehyung feel good.
Pulling out, Jungkook rips the condom off and sits back on Taehyung’s thighs as he pumps his cock. His orgasm hits him so hard that he’s silent, only uttering a small groan when the last of his cum spurts on Taehyung’s ass.
“Shit,” Jungkook sighs, throwing his head back and taking a deep breath.
The car windows are so foggy that condensation drips down them, creating streaks that expose the city's lights around them. The air inside the car is muggy, smelling of sweat and cum. Jungkook may be weird, but he likes the smell of sex when it’s with Taehyung. Maybe he’s that pathetically whipped for Taehyung. If he is, he doesn’t care.
“Jungkook,” Taehyung calls hoarsely, lifting up the top half of his body so he’s resting on his elbows. “Can you clean me up?”
He’s shy when he asks, and Jungkook wonders if he’ll grow out of it. It wouldn’t matter to him, though. Jungkook loves Taehyung regardless of if he’s afraid to say cum or not.
In the front console is a disorganized stack of napkins Jungkook has collected from eating fast food far too many times. He grabs a handful of them to clean Taehyung up and is acutely aware of Taehyung watching his every move. It’s nerve-wracking because Jungkook knows what Taehyung is thinking about and thinks he knows what Taehyung will say. It will be exactly what Jungkook hopes for, yet he’s still scared.
The two men watch each other get dressed and exchange shy smiles when Jungkook smacks his head on the ceiling, and Taehyung accidentally crushes the box of fire and ice condoms. Jungkook feels like a teenager sneaking out of the house to hook up with his high school sweetheart, parked somewhere they shouldn’t be. He can’t believe he’s well into his twenties and just had sex in a grocery store parking lot.
“Do you only love me during sex? Or all the time?” Taehyung finally asks once he and the seat have been cleaned up as best as Jungkook can, and they both are fully clothed.
“All the time,” Jungkook confesses with Taehyung sitting in his lap, straddling his thighs and draping his arms over his shoulders.
“Did you say it because of my date?”
Jungkook runs his hands along Taehyung’s sides and takes his time to think about the question. It’s a valid one, but Jungkook doesn’t like the implications.
“I loved you before the date.” It’s an easy answer to give.
Taehyung runs his pretty fingers through Jungkook’s hair and kisses his forehead.
“I went on the date because I love you, and I thought you wouldn’t want to commit to being with me,” Taehyung presses his face into the crook of Jungkook’s neck and breathes him in, sweaty skin and all. “I fucked myself over, though. I left the date loving you more.”
Jungkook never planned for Taehyung to enter his life and completely turn it upside down, but as he holds the back of Taehyung’s head and wraps his arm around his waist to keep him against his chest, Jungkook’s thankful for the part of him that gave him permission to love.

[Tales from the Pack] Jeonghan: Sold (Part Four)
Tumblr media

They would’ve never discovered you inside one of the many cages full of people, and Jeonghan would’ve never went against the alphas and demanded they help. But for you, Jeonghan would do anything, even if it means bringing back trouble from a past he never knew about.

Jeonghan was honestly surprised how soundly you slept considering everything that happened, but he figured you must’ve been exhausted. Kyung had told them everything Saoirse had said when they first visited, so it must’ve been heaven for you to sleep in a real bed.
He didn’t sleep, though. Even though you were safe at home, he was afraid someone would come looking for you. So he sat up in a chair in the corner of the room and watched you sleep. Which was kind of nice since he knew when people started arriving home, and he knew all of his brothers and sisters were safe.
He did, unfortunately, hear about Saoirse not making it from Jihoon telling Kyung downstairs.
As Jeonghan watched you sleep throughout the night, he couldn’t stop thinking about how lucky he was. He couldn’t believe he finally found his mate. He waited years to find you, and now you were sleeping in his bed, already so trusting of him. It made his heart swell. He may have shed a few tears that night out of pure joy.
In the morning, he had to make a plan. He was sure life couldn’t just carry on as normal, so he had to figure out how to help you adjust, as well as mourn the loss of the girl he assumed was your friend.
It was late morning when you finally roused from your slumber, your joints popping as you stretched and yawned. Your eyes fluttered open from your dreamless sleep to see Jeonghan already kneeling by the bed, looking at you with warm, curious eyes. He’d introduced himself to you last night, telling you his name and what he was. And when he said he wanted to keep you with him that night, he seemed confused how you’d so easily agreed. But you didn’t see any reason to fear a werewolf, especially when they were the ones who’d saved a large group of people from a human trafficking ring for seemingly no reason. You’d never seen any proof to be afraid of werewolves.
Well, maybe except for Eunjin, who Jeonghan told you about once he’d brought you upstairs.
“Good morning,” he smiled softly. “Did you sleep well?”
“Amazing,” your voice was groggy as you smiled back at him, closing your eyes for just one last moment of bliss. “Thank you again.”
“It’s my pleasure,” he chuckled. “Hungry?”
Your eyes snapped open, and he laughed a little louder, “I guess that’s a yes.”
Jeonghan had given you clean clothes when you arrived last night. The house had been silent and appeared empty other than a couple of other werewolves who were awake – they’d said their names were Mingyu and Joshua – and of course, Eunjin, who Jeonghan told you was a banshee. Still, Jeonghan had warned you it was a ‘full house’ so you were unsure of who you’d run into this morning.
He led you downstairs, taking your hand delicately in his and keeping it there as he led you down the hallway and down the stairs to the kitchen where you heard a plethora of voices, and even the voice of a baby. Upon entering the kitchen, you saw it was indeed full, but you also saw it was full of humans.
“Oh!” one of the girls with dark brown eyes smiled warmly when she noticed you, causing other heads to turn as the individual conversations hushed. “You’re awake! It’s so nice…to…”
Her sentence died off as she noticed you slowly move behind Jeonghan. You gripped the back of his shirt for dear life, your eyes flitting around the room, examining every human in the space. They all seemed to be women, but still, it didn’t make you any less wary of them.
“Hey,” Jeonghan’s voice was soft as he turned his head to look at you, “none of them will hurt you. They’re werewolves, remember? Like me.”
You slowly shook your head, eyes not leaving the women in the kitchen, “Not them…”
Well, this is new, Jeonghan thought.
He’d never met a human who was afraid of other humans rather than werewolves. None of them had, actually. The mates looked around at each other and the other werewolves, unsure of how to approach this situation.
“Blue– Erm– Hey,” a new man with dark hair and golden eyes stepped forward with a small but friendly smile, “...why don’t we bring you somewhere else away from…the…humans?”
You nodded eagerly.
The man exchanged looks with Jeonghan before Jeonghan turned and began to lead you back upstairs to the bedroom.
Seungcheol looked over his shoulder, nodding for Kyung and Cooper to follow him. He figured having two women might be a little helpful, and they were two of the handful of obviously non-humans that were awake and in the kitchen.
“Why wasn’t I invited?” Arinya pouted.
While Joshua wanted to tell her it was probably because she was mostly clueless to most things, he settled for messing up her hair and saying, “Maybe when you’re older.”
The small group filed into Jeonghan’s bedroom before Kyung closed the door. You sat on the bed looking up at them while Jeonghan sat on the bed beside you. You looked each one over carefully, noting their golden eyes. None of them were human. Good. That was good.
“Firstly, I never got to properly introduce myself,” the man with dark hair smiled warmly. “My name is Seungcheol. I’m one of 4 alphas of this pack. You remember Kyung, I assume. And thi is Coo– Uh, Rin.”
“Cooper’s fine,” the girl shrugged.
“So, what should we call you?” Kyung asked you.
You looked between them all and shrugged, “I don’t know.”
Maybe it sounded silly, but you didn’t have a name. You were sure you were given one at birth, but you didn’t remember it. A whole bunch of unfortunate circumstances led to your name being lost along with your parents, and every unfortunate circumstance involved humans.
For the pack, it was quite the pickle. They had been referring to you as Blue, but it seemed a little…awful to do that. It tied you to the shock collar that used to be around your neck. It felt almost demeaning to call you that, as if you were just some animal with no real name.
But unfortunately, it was all they had to go off of.
“Is…Blue…okay?” Jeonghan asked, deciding he should be the one to step up and say it. He wondered if you’d even put two and two together.
But of course you did. Every so often, the men would do their counts. Counting all the different colored collars. Making sure they were all accounted for and none had somehow managed to escape. You were one of eight with a blue collar, but you were the only one in your cage with one.
Instead of saying anything, you just nodded. If it came from Jeonghan, Blue was okay.
“Blue,” Cooper began almost hesitantly, seeming to be testing the name out to make sure you wouldn’t suddenly decide it offended you, “so…you’re a…human, right?”
“Y-yes…” you replied almost nervously. You didn’t know why she was asking.
“No, no,” she quickly said when she saw the strange look you gave her, “I’m only asking because…well, you seemed to be…afraid of the humans downstairs.”
You scoffed, “Are you not? They’re monsters.”
The four wolves almost started laughing. In fact, Jeonghan accidentally let out a snort and had to cover it up as a cough. They never thought the tables would turn like this. They were always the ones being called monsters by humans.
“Can I ask where you came from?” Seungcheol wondered. “How did you end up there?”
“I don’t…really know,” you confessed slowly, eyebrows furrowing as you tried to remember exactly what happened. “I was on the streets, and suddenly, I was in a cage. I don’t remember anything between those times.”
That didn’t help them at all.
“What about before that?” Kyung asked. “Do you have a family? We just want to know so we can maybe help you get home.”
You shook your head, “No family. No home.”
“Nothing?” Cooper asked incredulously.
“Humans,” you replied grimly.
That gave them more questions than answers. Questions that they weren’t fit to be asking just yet. You were afraid of humans and didn’t trust them, yet their house was filled with them. There was no way you’d trust them enough just yet to give everything about yourself away. If anything, they were worried they’d have to make sure you didn’t try to run away.
So, instead, they’d have to start working forward. They’d have to get your trust before prying. Jeonghan was sure he could do that. But he didn’t care about the prying. He only cared about your trust.
-
It wasn’t often the wolves frequented the pub for a good time considering they typically wanted to lay low, but for this meeting, they felt it might be nice to celebrate their victory over a pint or two. So the alphas of the four packs – except for Kyung, who opted to stay home and spend some time with Hansol – met up at a pub in the Capitol to talk about their mission’s success.
“How’s the new mate adjusting?” Hanbin chuckled.
“She’s terrified of humans,” Soonyoung scoffed before taking a big gulp of his beer. He noticed the shocked looks and nodded. “Yeah, plot twist, right?”
“How is a human afraid of humans?” Chris wondered.
“A very traumatic upbringing from what we could gather,” Seungcheol nodded, gripping his glass like he was having flashbacks to something traumatic as well.
Jeonghan still hadn’t gotten much from conversations with you, but he was sure something would come up with how much time the two of you had already spent together. He was always with you. They explained werewolves were significantly stronger than humans so he could protect you from them. He became almost like a guard dog for you.
“What about the refugees?” Jihoon asked, deciding to change the subject to a slightly lighter topic. “Everyone doing okay?”
“We still have a handful at our place,” Junmyeon reported. “Just a couple of them getting patched up by Yixing. We want to make sure they’re fully healed before we let them off with Dr. Minjee. I know she’s perfectly capable of healing them the old fashioned way, but…Yixing is more convenient, and he’s more than happy to do so.”
“All of ours got picked up by Sura and taken to safehouses,” Chris nodded with a smile.
Though, the alphas did notice that Chris had a few new scars on his neck and arms. Given their knowledge of his power, they knew he must’ve done some help with managing their pain before they were sent off with Sura.
“All but one of ours went with Prajya today,” Hanbin told them.
“Just one?” Seungcheol asked.
Hanbin chuckled with a smirk, “We think Baekhan finally imprinted.”
The boys began whistling and howling – nothing noticed by the other patrons since they were even rowdier than the wolves sitting at a table together – for the pup of Hanbin’s pack. He was the only one that wasn’t mated – unless they counted Rika, but she was a human – and he was one of the shyest members of the pack.
“He hasn’t mentioned anything about it yet,” Hanbin explained, “so we’re just saying we’re healing her until he finally speaks up.”
“Speaking of,” Junmyeon looked back to the three alphas, “did Jeonghan tell…Blue everything?”
“Not the imprinting thing, no,” Seungcheol stated. “I’m sure she’ll take it well, though.”
“But also speaking of mates,” Chris spoke up, looking worriedly at the eldest of the three alphas, “does she know anything about the pack that they were being sold to?”
Seungcheol shook his head, “They weren’t given many details, but we’re keeping an eye out for any stray wolves or any new packs in the area. We figure since we’re a little spread out that you guys should do the same and keep the group updated so we can plan accordingly.”
Unfortunately, even though they had rescued you from the black market, it didn’t mean you were completely safe. Because now there was a pack of werewolves out there that weren’t getting the mates they had paid for, and the packs were sure they would go searching for them.
-
The sound of the man’s back hitting the metal bars rang out in the night, the breath getting knocked out of his lungs. His hands clawed at the strong hand around his neck, squeezing his throat and blocking any way to inhale air back into his lungs.
“Where the fuck are they?!” the man in front of him roared just inches from his face.
“I-I-I’m sorry!” the guard sobbed. “A bunch of wolves showed up and tore the place apart! We tried to stop them but there were fifty of ‘em! I swear, we–”
In an instant, the man’s nails extended into claws and sliced through the guard’s neck. His body fell with a gurgling sound, laying among the other dead guards and captives that littered the place.
The man took a deep breath and let it out in annoyance as he rolled his eyes and walked around what used to be the inside of the tent, inspecting the cages that had been broken into. The place had been burned down to ash, along with some of the bodies of guards and captives that had died. Some humans lay lifeless in werewolf traps around the perimeter, their flesh burnt off from their bones. Others had bullet holes in their skulls or half-burned bodies. The grass was completely burnt up and covered in dried blood that had bubbled from the heat and then cooled into a hard, sticky goo.
“What now, Jaemin?” one of the other men asked.
Jaemin’s red eyes continued to scan the room one more time before he turned to look at his pack. The four men studied him carefully, waiting for his instruction.
“Well, we’re definitely getting our money back,” he chuckled. “And I think we’re owed some reimbursement for our missing goods.”
As Jaemin turned to leave, the other four followed him out.
“Who do you think did this?” another asked.
“And why?” wondered a third, eyeing the place over one more time before leaving.
Jaemin easily found the metal box where the men were keeping their money, breaking it open effortlessly and counting through the bills inside.
“No idea,” he sighed as he began counting the money, “but you bet your ass I’m gonna find out who did, and I’m taking back what’s ours.”

love scene
Tumblr media
pairing: byun baekhyun x reader word count: 1.7k genre: fluff, smut warnings: piv, doggy style, impreg kink, slightly dom!baekhyun, lots of sweetness and fluff synopsis: your husband byun baekhyun always has sweet surprises for you
author’s note: this fic is based on the songs un village and love scene by byun baekhyun
You stepped off the bus at the stop that was right in front of your apartment. As it was a rainy night, you opened up your pale pink umbrella to protect yourself from the downpour. The streets were mostly dark and empty, with the streetlights illuminating glistening puddles. Usually you loved the rain, but you were officially tired of it. It had been raining for almost two weeks straight and you missed being able to get home dry.
As you crossed the street, you looked up at the building you lived in and the window of your apartment. He was standing there in the window looking at you like you knew he would be. Baekhyun always made sure to watch you getting off the bus if he was home first. He knew the schedule and was always waiting there for you to make your appearance. He said it was because he couldn’t wait to see you, even a few more minutes.
You looked up at him and waved, although you knew he could barely see you doing so under the umbrella that he had bought for you. You expected him to wait until you got to the apartment entrance, but you saw him turn around and walk away from the window. That was odd. You shrugged it off and made your way to the sliding entrance door to your building when you saw your husband standing right inside wearing a raincoat, a grin on his handsome face. He opened the door and came outside before you could go in and he grabbed your hand, pulling the two of you away from the building.
“Baby, I have something to show you,” Baekhyun said sweetly, giving you a kiss on the lips. “I missed you, by the way.”
“I missed you too, Baek, but what is it? I’m tired and cold and wet. I just want to get inside and take a warm shower.”
“You’ll see when we get there,” he replied, smirking a little. You really couldn’t ever say no to that face, as exhausted as you were. The two of you were huddled under the umbrella now, still holding hands. He insisted on holding the umbrella too, which you had no qualms with.
“Is it far?”
“No, we’re almost there. Trust me, Y/N, you’ll like it.”
The two of you walked in comfortable silence for a few more minutes before finally arriving at a small hill. Baekhyun led you up to the top of it, and pointed up at the night sky, moving the umbrella slightly. “It’s a supermoon.”
You looked up from under the umbrella at the full moon above you, looking larger than you’d ever seen it. It was a breathtaking sight, glowing like a pearl in the sky.
“Wow, it’s so pretty. I’ve never seen the moon look so big before,” you said, taking it in.
“I thought it would be nice for us to look at it together alone like this. I knew no one would be around because of the rain.”
“I love it,” you replied, giving your husband a kiss on the lips. He was always so sweet and thoughtful and romantic, and you knew how lucky you were that he thought of things like this. The two of you sat down on a nearby bench. Thankfully your raincoats were long enough that you didn’t need to worry about the seat of your clothes getting wet. You and Baekhyun sat together looking at the moon and chatting. Your husband was cracking his usual jokes and making you giggle as he always did.
The two of you sitting together under the moonlight alone was the perfect end to a stressful week at work. You leaned your head on his shoulder and sighed, closing your eyes and savoring the moment. He put his arm around your shoulders.
“What are you thinking?”
“I just hope we can always be like this. That we can have sweet moments like this. And that our relationship doesn’t devolve into us taking each other for granted and getting bored and annoyed with each other.”
Baekhyun smiled to himself and squeezed your hand gently. “I’ll try my best to make sure that that never happens.” You smiled, knowing that that was the best he could give you.
“Let’s go home,” he said, giving you a slight nudge.
The pair of you stood up and began the short walk home, hand in hand. It was raining less now, but still enough that you had to keep the umbrella up. You could feel your want for each other becoming stronger and stronger. You couldn’t wait to get home so that you could devour each other. All you could think about was when you were going to be able to get into your apartment so that you could finally be with him truly alone.
As soon as Baekhyun closed the door to your apartment, he pushed you against it and kissed you deeply, his wet hands in your hair. You grabbed him by the lapel of his coat and pulled him into you, wanting to absorb him completely. He began pulling at your clothes while still attached to your mouth, pulling up your skirt so that it was now bunching around your waist. He pulled your panties down and you stepped out of them, kicking them aside.
“Are you really going to fuck me against the door? What if someone’s in the hallway?”
“Let them hear,” Baekhyun replied dismissively, his lust for you too palpable to manage. “Turn around.”
You did so, putting your hands on the door and pushing your ass out. You heard Baekhyun unzip his pants and push his hard cock into you. You were already wet and ready for him and you moaned as he thrust himself all the way in.
“Baekhyun…” you breathed, arching your back. He began fucking you quickly, as though he’d wanted you forever and couldn’t hold himself back.
“You’re so fucking pretty. Were you always so pretty or is it just for me?” he said, putting his hand in your hair while the other one was pressed against the door. He was hungry for you, starved, his ravenous lips attaching themselves to your damp neck, sucking and biting, his teeth grazing your skin just enough to leave goosebumps all over your body.
“Don’t leave any marks,” you managed to say, even though your head was spinning with desire. He just felt so good inside you and you moaned out as he moved his hand over your body and onto your breast, squeezing it in annoyance.
“Why not?” He was irritated, slowing down a little, but you knew he’d never go against your wishes.
“I suck at covering up hickies,” you reminded him. “And I can’t go to work like that. You know this.”
He grumbled but didn’t argue. The two of you remembered the last time Baekhyun had covered your neck in hickies and the way you had desperately tried and failed to conceal them with makeup the next morning and instead ended up wearing scarves and turtlenecks to work for the subsequent two weeks in the middle of the a heatwave.
Baekhyun grabbed your hips and pushed into you even harder and deeper. You could feel his cock so so close to hitting your cervix.
“Fuck Baekhyun,” you moaned, “It feels good.”
“Yeah?” He said, building up a rhythm again. “I bet it fucking does.” He was thrusting in and out of you, his hips finding a perfect tempo to match yours. The moans escaping your mouth were getting louder and louder and you knew that if someone was standing in the hallway, they would definitely be able to hear you. “God I’ve wanted you so bad. I’ve been thinking about fucking you all day.”
“Me too. I’ve been at work so desperate for your cock. I’ve been making mistakes because I can barely think of anything else.”
That seemed to excite Baekhyun as he sped up his pace. “Yeah? Good. I like you like that. Being my desperate little cock slut.”
“You’re gonna make me cum, Baek,” you said, letting out another moan. You were close, your body filling up with that familiar heat that it always did when you were on the edge.
“Fuck… Me too,” Baekhyun let out a low growl, “I’m so close to cumming inside this pussy… And getting you pregnant.”
You paused for a second, surprised by his words. Baekhyun had never said anything even remotely close to that before. It wasn’t his usual flavor of dirty talk but you certainly didn’t dislike it. You had an IUD implanted so you weren’t scared of actually getting pregnant but the thought of it was thrilling.
“Yes, Baekhyunnie, fill me up, please. I want it.”
“You want it? You want my baby? You want me to fuck this pussy full of my cum?” He said, his breath hot on your neck. “I’ll fill you up so much that you’ll get pregnant for sure.”
“Please, yes… Yes…” you could feel yourself tipping over the edge and plunging into your orgasm, going weak in the knees as Baekhyun continued pounding your cunt. He gripped your hips hard enough that you were sure there would be finger marks there in the morning and he released himself deep inside of you.
The two of you collapsed onto the floor in a messy pile of limbs intertwined in each other. You giggled as you nuzzled into Baekhyun’s neck.
“So that was new. You have something you wanna share with me?”
Baekhyun shrugged and smiled that mischievous smile that you knew so well. He wrapped his arm around you tighter, placing a kiss on your forehead. “It’s just something I think about sometimes.”
“Having a baby?”
“Yeah. What do you think about that? We’re married. Why not?” Baekhyun asked, the earnestness in his tone endearing him to you even more, if that was even possible.
“Hmm,”  you said. You couldn’t help but tease him a little.
“Come on. Someone needs to get the Korean birth rate up anyway. We’d be doing it for the good of the country,” he joked.
You laughed. “Someday, definitely. Soon,” you replied. Truthfully, you hadn’t thought about it much but thinking now of having a little mini amalgamation of you and Baekhyun running around was too adorable to resist.
Baekhyun smiled, seemingly relieved. “Good. Now let’s get in the shower and get you cleaned up, baby.”

Hellooo!! So I was thinking about exo’s reaction of reader getting turned on but there’s people around.. I’ll leave this to u ahah 🤭
the ones who would either get shy or scold you:
minseok, junmyeon, yixing, jongin
i think both minseok and junmyeon would get kind of annoyed, and tell you that that was no place to get turned on (although they know it might not be your fault). minseok would just give you the look, while junmyeon would politely whisper for you to control yourself. but don't worry, they're all yours once you reach home.
now, for yixing and jongin, they're not innocent of course - but still, they would get all shy and pretend like they didn't hear you. yixing might even leave a hand resting on your thigh as some type of comfort for the both of you, but jongin wouldn't touch you at all as he would start to nervously laugh (and because he's starting to feel aroused too).
the ones who would smirk about it and tease you endlessly:
baekhyun, kyungsoo, sehun
oh, i'm so sorry for you. these three would make a personal goal to see you blush and groan out of annoyance. baekhyun would be the worst one, caressing your thigh but pulling his hand away whenever you tried to pull it closer to where you'd need him. kyungsoo would start to play with his hair and do things that he knows it turns you on, like casually slip some words into the conversation too; he would love to see you frustrated. now for sehun, he would be such a brat, leaning on your ear and asking how much you can handle it, smirking whenever he'd see you moving in discomfort. they're all brats, you did this to yourself when you chose them, i'm sorry.
the ones who would take the matter into their own hands (if you know what i mean):
jongdae, chanyeol
these two are the only ones i think that would actually pull you aside and help you out with your problem. jongdae would probably need to 1) be a little bit tipsy, or 2) be needy as well, to help you out. he would have some fun teasing you too before deciding that enough is enough, excusing the two of you out of the conversation and taking you to the bathroom, the closest room or something. you're lucky to have him and his lips, be grateful.
chanyeol would try his best not to laugh at you once he realizes what you're going through, but because you're such a good partner for him (and because he knows you would do the same for him), he would take you to his car so he can help you have some relief with his fingers. don't forget to thank him too.

‘I can’t believe you didn’t tell me earlier!!’
Yuki was over for girl’s night, and this time, she wasn’t the only one gushing about her prosperous sex life.
‘I was waiting for test results.’
‘Huh? Test results?’
You realized that you’d just spilled all the beans you didn’t intend to spill.
‘Uh- we didn’t exactly- you know?’
‘What?’ She asked suspiciously, probably not even imagining that you could get so careless.
‘Well…’ You swirled your hand around abstractly.
‘I don’t know what that means- Wait. No, you didn’t!?’ Judging by her lit-up eyes, she guessed right. ‘You little hoe!!’
‘Look who’s talking.’
‘Yes, I’m talking. And I want to know everything. Starting with the result of that test, actually. You stupid hoe.’
Sighing, you rolled your eyes.
‘It’s negative. Thankfully… But it was really stupid of me, I know.’
‘Well, did he at least pull out on time? It’s not a safe option, but the timing is somewhat important…’
‘He did. Although he said, he’s never had sex without condoms.’
‘Damn. I should change what I said to ‘you lucky hoe’! I hope you took that test properly.’
You nodded. That was the first time you had to march into a pharmacy to get pregnancy tests. And you had no clue about how to choose out of the dozens of available options. The only reason you were able to ask for help was that you wore a mask – to save you some face, literally.
But that landed you with a few options and some instructions to follow. You had also gotten your period after your two-day sexcapade with Baekhyun, so you were pretty sure you were lucky this time. But you were still concerned with the long-term options. Something you’d left for the future discussion with your physician.
There were other things on your mind right now.
‘Actually, there’s something else that’s been bothering me.’ You mentioned reluctantly. ‘We haven’t… made it official. I mean- he hasn’t asked me yet. Is that… indicative of anything?’
The thought was bugging you daily.
The words ‘Would you be my girlfriend?’ or anything of the sort, had never left your neighbor’s mouth. And you were the one who shamelessly got drunk, ended up in his bed, made him sleep in it with you, and then… Weren’t you so very eager to jump into having sex with him?
Not to mention that you’d stayed at his place for two whole days, Sunday being filled by more domestic delights, and… Even more sex. It seemed like Baekhyun was focused on you and completely insatiable. You couldn’t remember doing it more than once or twice a day, so you were stunned as you realized you had gone four times. His stamina was surprisingly remarkable.
It was a relief that you had to eventually leave his apartment, for you had to work on Monday. As you ran a bath at your place, you realized how sore and exhausted you were. The fact that just a couple days prior, you got shitfaced was probably a contributing factor, but also, the amount of physical activity was very unusual for your body. Though this was a great type of exhaustion, and you had the deepest sleep that night.
But now, almost two weeks later, you were pretty anxious about how your relationship was progressing. Relaying all of the basics to your friend and asking for her opinion was supposed to make you feel better; however, she shared your concerns.
‘This is weird. So, he had time to sex you up multiple times but not ask you a simple question?’ She frowned. ‘You know how it is here, Y/N… You’re not official until you say the words.’
You knew. And that wasn’t even the only cause for your uncertainty.
‘It’s not only that, but… We haven’t really hung out since.’ You mumbled, expecting a big reaction from your friend.
‘What?! Is the bastard ghosting you??’ She rose from her seat, looking ready to burst into his apartment and give him a piece of her mind.
‘No, he um- he had to go to some distant town for a work assignment. He told me that there might not be any internet connection since they would be on some military base or something like that. He said it would last a bit over a week, and then he’ll visit his family for a few days and get in touch with me from there.’
‘So, has he?’
‘So far… No.’ You admitted.
Yuki huffed, her eyebrows knitting together angrily.
‘Yah. That seems fishy as hell. Why wouldn’t he at least send you a text? Who disappears after having someone over for the entire weekend of fucking??’
‘We weren’t doing it the entire weekend…’ You mumbled, feeling your cheeks heat up again.
‘Come on! He didn’t ask you to be his girlfriend, disappeared on a ‘mission’ that sounds unrealistic, and hasn’t gotten back to you for almost two weeks? Wow, was I wrong about him.’
You scratched your temple, exhaling hopelessly. She just voiced everything that you thought to yourself. You kept giving him the benefit of the doubt in your head, but she was right. It was too odd for someone to vanish into thin air like this right after what had happened between the two of you. This was the hard truth, and it hit your softest, most vulnerable spot. Your heart.
‘I guess so,’ you muttered, voice a bit scratchy with the inevitable tears you held back. ‘What do I even do now, Yu? I like him a lot, which is precisely why I didn’t want to start anything…’
‘First of all, stop crying. If he decided to do this on purpose, he is a dickhead. And doesn’t even deserve to call you his girlfriend.’
She reached out her hands to wipe the stray tears off your cheeks.
‘Second… You need to grow some balls, Y/N. Don’t let people take you for granted or make you feel less than you are!’ She said in a serious tone. ‘I’ve told you this before: you shouldn’t retreat to your shell when someone attacks. You’re strong, beautiful, and an amazing person, capable of giving them hell if you need to!’
Snorting at Yuki’s passionate speech straight out of some girl power drama, you shook your head.
‘Yes, you are! Stop feeling sorry. If someone hurts you – don’t let them. I don’t mean Baekhyun exclusively. You know you’ve been in various situations lately where defending yourself was vital. Stop being a good, cautious girl who gets into her own head before saying anything. Act the way you want, and if someone is offended – it’s their problem. I’ve seen you speak your mind before, and it was damn powerful. That’s why it’s time that you do it for you.’
It wasn’t hard to guess what she was referring to. You’d been keen on staying collected on the outside and hid your emotions fairly well. You’d never let your struggles show, even when you were going through a difficult time at your previous job. You preferred crying in the restroom during lunch break to letting anyone know.  You didn’t want to deal with that. Sad or angry, you processed every thought before opening your mouth and saying something, just because you knew how hot-tempered you could become if you didn’t keep your tongue in check.
However, you did let it slip sometimes, mostly when someone hurt the people you love, as opposed to you. A couple years ago, you had to pick Yuki up from a random party she was stuck at, and there was a guy who made unwanted moves on her. As you arrived at the scene, you had to search the entire house for her until you walked into the kitchen, where the bloke was trying to kiss her while she was shoving him away. You vaguely recalled what you did… grabbing his shoulder to turn him around, kneeing him in the balls without hesitation. Yuki later shared that she sobered up as she heard you swearing excessively at him. You told him everything on your mind, and he was scared to talk back. Apparently, you looked like a force of nature back then.
And although this wasn’t the first time you’d done something like this, it was mostly reserved for someone else. But now that you were contemplating your life… You found that you might’ve been missing the point all along.
‘Actually… You have a point, Yu.’
Your best friend blinked, surprised by your response. She’d been trying to get through to you many times before, and now you finally listened?
‘Why should I always be the one to swallow my pride or feel uncomfortable? I’ve always been a good girl, and where did it get me?’ You wiped your face dry. ‘I’m not gonna do a one-eighty and become a crazy bitch now, but it’s time to let go. I won’t try to reach him or wait for him at the door. If he was one of the bastards who thought I was too boring to have a relationship with, well… Fuck him then. I’m done with feeling bad about myself.’
‘Yay! That’s what I’m saying. You go, girl!’
‘I’m sure I’ll get over him in no time. Yes, we’re neighbors; it’s gonna be awkward. But why should I be the one worried about it? I’ll be sure to let him know I don’t give a shit about him and his stunts if I ever see him again.’
‘That’s the spirit, Y/N-ah! Gosh, this calls for a celebration. Where’s the champagne I brought last time?’
‘I hoped you’d ask. In the fridge.’ You chuckled.
‘Coming right up,’ she winked, already headed to the cupboard to get the glasses.
***
Friday rolled in, having you overcome the struggles of getting work done while having your head elsewhere. Your office hours were so long and miserable that you were dead set on doing your house chores and then going straight to bed tonight. Just to sleep in tomorrow, wake up completely free for the day, and order from your favorite restaurant and chill. If anyone deserved a feast, it was definitely you! Rewarding yourself for getting through the week and spending five minutes not thinking about your personal life was a great achievement in your book. Maybe not great, but a triumph.
Walking up to the entrance, you saw a tall figure there.
It didn’t seem familiar until you were a ten-second walk away. Then you realized – it was that woman. That one who broke into Baekhyun’s apartment while you were there. And the one who called him up about having dinner together at his place.
Your first instinct was to turn around and sneak through another entry point. You hated confrontation, especially in case you didn’t initiate it. At this time, all you wanted was a quiet evening, and it was about to be ruined.
Your pride, however, didn’t allow you to back down. Suddenly, your conversation with Yuki replayed in your mind. She was right; you shouldn’t let anyone treat you that way or make you feel any less. And if you had to withstand a pointless attack, you could simply fire back. With that in mind, you reached the gate.
‘You!’ The voice made you sigh and brace yourself before turning around. ‘It is you! I’ve seen you before.’
‘Congrats,’ you shrugged, ready to walk away.
She grabbed your forearm.
‘Are you going to Baekhyun again?’
‘I find it unlikely that my destination is any of your business. Let go of me.’
She gritted her teeth, squeezing your arm painfully.
‘Listen, whore. I’ve been working on him for months, and as soon as I’ve made progress, you swing by and think you’re-’
‘No, you listen, bitch.’ You ripped out of her grasp, completely fed up with this. ‘I don’t care if you think you’re entitled to have him. But let me tell you this. I live on the thirteenth floor, so if I see you there again, I’m calling the police. Stop creeping around my house and get a life.’
‘You-’
‘Is everything alright?’ You turned to the security, who most likely caught your exchange in front of the gates on CC TV and decided to come check it out.
‘Yes,’ you nodded, pressing your code in and pushing through the entrance. ‘This person is blacklisted on our building, check under Byun Baekhyun. And please make sure she doesn’t sneak in and cause more trouble.’
‘Of course.’ The guard made sure the door was appropriately locked after you.
The woman, whose name you still didn’t know, shouted profanities at your back as you walked away.
You hated confrontation, but this felt good.
Later this evening, you gladly told your best friend about it.
‘Damn, you should’ve called me as soon as you got home! This is so cool,’ she yelled as you relayed the story.
‘I wanted to clean up first. You know we talk for hours… I'm glad I did; I’m sure I’d have zero energy if I had to do it now. I’m already in bed and so sleepy.’
As if to emphasize your point, you let out a loud yawn.
‘How graceful. I am in bed too, but I wish I could see her face when you… Is there a way to get my hands on the security footage?? I’d flirt with your guards just to have a chance to see that!’
You heard someone grumble in the background.
‘I’m sure you’d love to see that footage just as much as me, Seokie,’ she teased.
‘Ew, don’t tell me you’re in bed with Hoseok right now!’
‘What if I am? Jealous?’ She asked, and you rolled your eyes.
‘Sure. I hate you lovebirds.’
‘He’s been eavesdropping on your story about that bitch you put in her place, and he looks impressed.’
‘You go, Y/N-ah!’ You heard Hoseok shout.
‘Thanks,’ you giggled, feeling at ease. ‘That’s at least one source of frustration off my shoulders.’
‘Aw, you’re still upset about that bastard going MIA on you?’
‘I’m trying not to think about it. But… Baekhyun’s either been offline everywhere or has blocked me. I just keep thinking… If it’s the former, what if something happened?’’
‘Oh ,Y/N. I hate that you’re this kind. Next time you see him, tell him off just like his stalker.’
‘I guess,’ you agreed weakly. ‘Anyways, tomorrow is a new day, and I have great plans, so I need to sleep now.’
‘By great plans you mean ordering food and wearing pajamas all day?’
‘You know me so well! Don’t bother coming over, I’m not gonna share. It’s a me-day.’
‘Ugh, what a hoe.’
‘I’m hanging up.’
You put your phone away, giggling at her goodbye growl. She always knew when to tease you to make you relax, and it was one of the reasons you considered her a great friend.
She was always there to back you up and listen to your whining, if needed. At least when you went back to being alone again, you weren’t completely alone.
***
You danced eagerly to the door, ready to pick up your order. It was afternoon, and you were hungrier than a wolf. The delivery guy had just sent you a picture of your package, so you were to simply get it at your doorstep. Which was how you preferred it – living alone as a woman could be slightly creepy, so all contacts with strangers were to be avoided. Your apartment building had great security, but… better safe than sorry.
Thinking all that, you opened the door without checking if the coast was clear. Since you were already crouched to get the package off the floor, you instantly saw a pair of legs in front of you. Male legs. Someone was standing right outside of your door.
You quickly glanced up, meeting the chocolate eyes.
And then grabbed the doorknob, trying to shut the door. But a swift foot in the doorway prevented you from doing so.
‘Whoa, wait a second, Y/N-ah!’
You still wouldn’t budge, so Baekhyun continued.
‘I know what it must’ve looked like, but let me explain. Please, Y/N. I know I fucked up.’
He tried stealing a glance at your face through the crack on the door, but you turned away.
‘Why should I listen to a single word you say?’
‘Don’t you want to know what really happened?’
Trying to make up your mind, you looked down at the package in your other hand.
‘I’ll need five minutes tops to set the table.’ You announced, letting go of the doorknob and allowing him to follow you inside. ‘Be done till then, I don’t wanna spoil my healthy appetite.’
You said that while walking towards the kitchen to get your food out. Baekhyun put something suspicious on the floor and stepped into the kitchen silently.
Expecting him to start the explanation, you huffed.
‘Your time is going to be up before you know it!’
‘I’m sorry.’ He said, voice heavy with guilt. ‘I’m sorry if I made you upset. I know we agreed that I’d stay in touch, and I didn’t. But I promise you I didn’t disappear on purpose.’
You began taking out containers of food from your delivery.
‘My phone was handed in the entire assignment because that base wouldn’t allow any devices inside but our pre-approved laptops. I was planning to text you as soon as I arrived at my family home because when I received my phone back it was dead.’
Listening to him talk, you avoided looking his way. You wanted to process his words without any additional… distractions. It was time to be rational; meeting his warm, guilty gaze again would cost you half of your battle spirit.
‘I left it to charge as soon as I got home, but…’
He made a big, almost theatrical pause.
‘But?’ You nudged, wishing to know the truth.
‘I don’t know how to say this… Uh- Siwoo wanted to take a picture of something outside just to be playful and accidentally dropped it out the window.’
It was your turn to pause. Was he kidding you with that story?? You couldn’t believe he was trying to blame all of this on a child.
Your thoughts must’ve displayed clearly on your face, so he fished his phone out of his back pocket.
It was brand new. It was evident that the model was upgraded, and the color was different, too.
‘I restored the photos from the cloud, I can show you the picture he too—’
The shiny new device was proof enough for you, and you weren’t willing to have him provide you with further evidence of his innocence. Nevertheless, you wanted to make sure he was genuine in his apology.
‘Why couldn’t you at least call our building and ask them to give me a message?’
He stood there, stupefied, for what seemed like an eternity before his expression turned into a sheepish grin.
‘I could’ve… done that?’ He mumbled, scratching the back of his head.
Clearly, the thought had never crossed his mind.
You rolled your eyes and turned to the kitchen counter. The table was set, and you only needed to get the plates. The prettier ones were reserved for the rare occasions when you had guests, so you had to reach for them.
‘Y/N…’ Baekhyun whined, sounding uncharacteristically childish in his desperation. ‘I also brought you an ‘I’m sorry’ present…’
Hearing this made you snap.
‘Why would you do that? It’s not like we’re dating!’
He was taken aback by your words.
‘What do you mean we’re not?’ He asked, completely bewildered. ‘Are you seeing someone else?’
‘No, but-’ It was your turn to mumble. ‘You never asked me…’
Baekhyun looked at you as if you were crazy. Then, his frown transformed into something else.
‘Oh god, Y/N…’ He sighed, leaning on the counter behind you with one hand. ‘I thought it was obvious. I was serious about you from the very beginning, but if you want me to say it, I will say it.’
You waited for him to finish.
‘Please be informed that I’ve considered you my girlfriend this entire time. And I know I fucked up, so… are you gonna break up with me?’
‘I’m debating it,’ you responded gruffly.
‘Y/N-ah,’ He pressed, still hovering over you while his arm inched closer and closer to your frame. ‘I’ll do anything you want to make it up to you.’
Taking in his hopeful eyes, you pointed to the kitchen cabinet.
‘I need plates.’
Following the direction of your index finger, Baekhyun looked up. He reached over you, almost hugging you with one arm, and gave you what you wanted.
‘Thank you.’
He perked up, a question in his eyes. ‘What now?’
Although you were still grumpy, your heart was beginning to warm up to him. So easily.
‘Go sit at the table. I’m hungry.’
Baekhyun’s chocolate orbs instantly lit up.
‘Does it mean you forgive me?’
The hopefulness of his tone made your façade crack.
‘You’ve mentioned a goodie bag?’ You squinted at the huge paper bag he left at the door, just to avoid crumbling right in front of him.
Baekhyun smiled cheekily.
‘It’s all yours. Babe.’
You ignored the term of endearment, turning your back on him to hide your warming cheeks.
‘Get yourself another set of chopst—’
Your boyfriend gave you an abrupt back hug.
‘B-Baekhyun?’
‘I really missed you, Y/N-ie.’ He whispered in your ear, nearly busting your eardrum with a kiss. ‘Also, my entire family wants to meet you…’
‘What?? Already?’
‘Mhm. And here you were, thinking we weren’t even dating,’ he snickered. ‘Once I got you, I’m not letting you go.’
‘You are,’ you huffed. ‘Otherwise, you’re standing between me and food. And I got an appetite, you know?’
‘I know.’ His smile tickled your neck pleasantly. ‘It’s one of the many things I love about you.’
It was impossible to turn into mush faster than you did.

Your new assistant was going to be a problem.
You clocked him as a problem before he walked through the doors of your office.
You spotted the danger a mile away the moment you saw the memo from the President of the company’s personal secretary advising you that a new member of your team would be starting today. A new member whose presence you’d never requested; who’s resume you’d never even seen, and whose last name was suspiciously identical to that company President’s whose Secretary was asking you — no, telling you to welcome your brand new, fresh out of college, probably fresh out of his dear mothers warm hugs and kisses embrace, with as much of a warm welcome as if you were welcoming the President himself.
Not only did you get thrust into your lap a most likely spoiled rotten nepotism baby, but now he was sitting across from your desk staring back at you with a bright beautiful smile of plenty of professionally straightened teeth and an even brighter happy go lucky personality that told you that this strapping young man had never known a day of struggle in his entire life — as short as that life had been so far.
An assistant should be younger than you anyway, right? You wouldn’t feel right bossing a homely old man around all day.
Did that young assistant have to be so very pretty though? Did he really have to be sitting there so damn moist and tender, looking at you with his head cocked to the side as if he had been jumping to as many conclusions about you as you had about him?
“I’m Byun Baekhyun. I like playing video games and working out. I can’t eat cucumber or spicy food. Please take care of me, Miss Manager Noona.” His words pulled his pink lips into a pout as he spoke and the sounds of his voice had just enough of a nasal whine that you wondered if he simply always got his way all of the time with everyone he knew.
You frowned and ticked your head back and forth at the name he called you. “Just Manager.” You corrected sternly and his wide smile dipped into a pronounced pout. The kind one might see on a little kid who’d just dropped his ice cream cone. You heard a nasal grunt of complaint come from the back of his throat and you hated how quickly that sound strummed a particular chord inside of your chest. You felt weirdly rebuked for the quick rebuttal and your lips dropped open almost against your will, “I mean, it’s just that…”
Just when you’d opened your mouth to speak he’d already moved on, “So what do I do here, Miss Manager…?” His words out loud stopped at the word Manager but you caught the movement of his lips as he silently mouthed the forbidden word ‘Noona.’ Clearly thinking he’d gotten away with something, his bright smile was back and as he asked his question he leaned forward with both of his elbows bent on the edge of your desk. His head peaked around to steal glimpses at the various pieces of work both open on your desk and brought up on your computer screen. You had been up to your ass in it before he walked in here and the thought of pausing all of this progress to train this guy was making your stress ulcer act up. You had deadlines to meet if you were going to get this script to the Assistant Directors in time for them to begin filming the next episode. The directors had deadlines, the locations were booked and paid for, the sponsor checks had long ago been cashed, and the reality show talent had a schedule that, contractually, could not be delayed. You simply did not have time for this inexperienced man to be asking you silly questions like “So what do I do here, Noona?”
You pulled a long breath into your lungs through your nose and closed your eyes for a moment, harnessing your self control. It wasn’t his fault you were overwhelmed with work. It wasn’t his fault he was born into a life of privilege and comfort. It wasn’t his fault that you didn't have time to train an entire new employee on the complicated job that sat before you. It was, maybe, perhaps his fault though, that the full head of bottle blonde hair you saw on top of his head had just enough highlights in it to bring out the pink in his cheeks and lips and make him look like something straight out of a boy band.
By the time you’d finished taking in your several calming deep breaths and you put your eyes back on him he was standing over your desk with his eyes peering over the document you had been working through for the past hour.
He was reading and mouthing the words, although from upside down you doubted he could tell what he was looking at, yet you watched curiously as he stuck a slim finger forward to touch the corner of one of the papers. You had been going over translations. Making sure the wording was correct, yes, but ultimately safe for widespread distribution. Your copy had red slashes through it with changes and suggestions. You were the final set of eyes that would approve this language that would be distributed proudly with your companies name all over the world.
“I think this one is no good,” he pointed to a single word on the document that had seemed innocuous enough for you to skip over it entirely. “That word,” his fingertip was stopped on a noun in the middle of the page, “means something very, very naughty in Brazil.”
Your eyes glanced down to where he pointed, surprised first for him to catch on to this task so quickly without you even having to explain it, and second to learn that sometimes a seashell is not just a seashell.
“That’s what you are doing with this, right?” He was grabbing the stack of papers from your desk now. “Give it, you have more important things to do, Miss Manager…” Again his lips continued the next two syllables in silence and you realized that this man was probably the most stubborn person you would ever meet in your entire life, and you were about to be permanently sealed into his mind as his Noona, whether you allowed it or not.
And it wasn’t that you approved of any of this anyway. But by the time your brain turned back on, the documents were already in his hands and he grabbed the red pen and started marking the page on top.
You had no choice but to allow it. The mere thought of someone taking away even a fraction of your workload felt like some sort of a dream come true. Plus, it really did seem like he had some idea of what he was doing. Part of you was genuinely curious as to how he would do.
You glanced over at him occasionally as he read through the pages making his notes and you soon found yourself immersed in the next task that was due soon.
Your focus was interrupted when a chipper sing-songy tune sounded out in his voice beside you, “I’m do-ne,” he called out and the script plopped down on your desk. His eyes were bright and his wide smile was back as his eyebrows wagged in the direction of the stack of papers he’d proudly presented you with.
You’d only made it through the first page when he started speaking again — this time without the singing.
“Did I do well? Do you like it? Can I stay?”
You were leafing through the pages, finding the spot where you left off and where he took over and you quickly read through the lines, taking care to read every suggestion he had made as well as the suggestions he had not made on the chance that in his inexperience he had missed something.
It looked pretty good. You didn’t tell him that though.
“Where did you say you came from again Mr…?”
“Baekhyun. I am Byun Baekhyun and I am yours now. You can use me however you like.” His wide smile had not so much as trembled since he’d brought the script back to you and the jovial attitude did not let up as he delivered to you one of the strangest, most ridiculous promises you’d ever received from anyone in your professional career.
You kept your face blank and ignored his eagerness. At least he was enthusiastic.
“Can you take this down to QC for final approval, Baekhyun…and do you have, like, a resume or something I can look at?”
He nodded with his eyes wide and he was digging through his bag for something. What he handed back to you was a tablet. The electronic kind that kept the little kids quiet at restaurants. His fingers tapped on the screen as he peered over your shoulder he brought up a picture in his photo gallery that seemed to be just a screen shot of his resume. He had to flip past various personal pictures as he did it and you did your best not to focus on any of it until he’d reached the one intended for you to see. There was nothing inappropriate from the looks of it. But it didn’t seem polite of you to snoop.
You did see some things though. Not that you were trying to see anything, but the picture right before the resume was one of him sitting in the driver’s seat of some fancy foreign car with a sweet smile on his face and a different color of hair that if you were being honest looked just as good, if not better than the blonde he had now.
“Sorry Noon—Uhh, Miss Manager, I don't have a printed copy on me but you can look at it there.” His hands were busy putting the paperwork carefully into a large white envelope so he could deliver it all to Quality Control and his head whipped back around with an afterthought for you, “You can just scroll to see the next page, okay?”
He was gone before you could answer him.
His resume showed promise. He’d graduated from an expensive Ivy League, of course, and had spent a few years abroad on various internships, no doubt landed with the ease of his family’s connections in the industry. You’d reached the end of the first page feeling somewhat hopeful that this time your new assistant would prove himself to be quite useful to you for however long he stayed in such a bottom level position. He would probably last no longer than a half a year before he rocketed to the top of the chain of command. The next page had various awards and honors achieved throughout his education and you glanced at the dates that he attended school, cursing your ability to do some quick mental math to guess his age.
He was young. A good amount of years younger than you, that was certain. Of course he was young, his skin still had traces of that smooth soft baby fat in his cheeks. Your finger scrolled back to the first page of his resume and with your fingertip still connected to the glass you allowed the picture to backtrack just a little, so the edges of the image of him smiling behind the steering wheel of that car showed just a little.
You had no business doing this. What were you thinking? You were just some delusional old lady thankful that she had an extra five minutes to her own thoughts thanks to her brand new assistant’s skills with a red pen. You quickly swiped away, back to the safety of the approved viewing material. Page one of Byun Baekhuun’s resume. You swiped again, a little too forceful for this tablet and page two quickly filled your screen. Perhaps the third swipe you made was out of spite but you gasped out loud when the next image in his picture gallery filled the screen of the tablet completely.
A wave of panic filled you and you quickly raced to undo what you had just done, what you had just seen.
You went back. It wasn’t enough.
You went back again, desperate for what you had just seen to be erased from your memory, but no matter how long you stared at the words on that screen, no matter how forcefully you exited out of the gallery entirely, closing the whole thing up and then finally giving up, locking the tablet and putting it to sleep, that image crept back up again and again and again.
Soon the desperation turned to bargaining. And bargaining turned to acceptance. It was normal really for a woman like you, a single, lonely, overworked woman like you to have this sort of reaction to accidentally seeing an attractive shirtless man standing poolside with the sun at his back and wetness glistening over his skin and broad chest and abs and other various well defined, firm, manly muscles.
Anger followed next. You were pretty sure you were going in the wrong order here, but how dare he put that picture in his tablet and just tell you to scroll. It was so easy for him to say it too as if he wanted you to find the picture and admire the time and work he put into building all of those muscles in his body. What if you had been caught in a trap. What if this was some sort of a test by HR to see if you needed to be sent to sensitivity training for sexual predators. What if there was a tracking device on that picture and there was now a blaring nipple warning happening in some control room upstairs.
A soft and pleasant ding interrupted your thoughts and you had a message waiting from Dami in the QC department. Baekhyun must have delivered the package by now. A quick glance at the clock on your computer told you that he had been gone for some time now and you half wondered if perhaps he had gotten lost on his way back.
“Oh my god. WHO. WAS. THAT?!!!??”
“I take it you got the revisions — please be quick, I’ve had 1st AD breathing down my neck all morning.”
“Gotcha. You made some interesting choices with this but I'm into it. What was wrong with those seashells?”
“Vulgar slang, censored in the Brazil market.”
“Ohh-la-la, great catch! This is why you’re the best.”
Her latest message stared back at you as your fingers refused to type a response. The last thing you wanted was to accept someone else’s work as your own, but you also really want to spend too much time on this distracting conversation that was keeping you and her both from your work. A simple emoji would do the trick. A smiley face, or a rolled eyes emoji maybe. Something that didn't exactly make claims to the potential slip up that Baekhyun caught on his first upside down glance at the script that you somehow missed even after looking over it twenty times.
Maybe you needed to brush up on your international slang terms for various sexual acts and their involved genitalia.
“My new assistant, Baekhyun, caught that one.” The long pause between her misdirected compliment and your delayed confession made you feel just a little bit guilty for any potential misunderstandings you might have opened yourself up to.
“Even his name is pretty.”
[She should see his muscles] an uninvited guest in the back of your brain whispered and you winced when it happened.
As soon as the thought crossed your mind you felt the shame of its aftermath course through you. That was the last thing you needed to be thinking about.
You didn't have much time to dwell on it because there was a sudden commotion outside of your office door. You heard the sound of someone’s shrill shouting, overdramatic screaming really and the telltale sounds of someone being thoroughly scolded. At the exact same time an alarm was sounding out on your phone telling you it was time to make it to your biweekly meeting with the directors and assistant directors upstairs. You quickly grabbed your laptop and calendar and made your way out of your door to see what in the world all of the fuss was about.
The carpet outside was littered with assorted papers and standing in the middle of the mess with his head hung down in shame was your assistant, looking sheepish and guilty. The source of the shrieking, as usual, was Carla, one of the less organized members of the translating team. You could see the now empty document tray sitting just at the edge of her desk and you imagined that she had set the whole thing precariously close to the edge again just tempting fate.
“What am I supposed to do with this now? This was my whole day’s work and you’ve made a huge mess of it all! Who even are you? Are you supposed to be in here?”
Baekhyun’s head dipped lower and his cheeks were bright pink as he was scolded again and again for bumping into her teetering tower and sending it crashing down to the ground, as you had seen happen around her desk at least once a week.
“Sorry, but I hardly even touched…” He was opening his mouth now, and as he began to protest what he thought was an unfair scolding you saw her lift up a rolled piece of paper and bonk him squarely on the top of his head with it.
You knew it was time to intervene and you cleared your throat noisily to make your presence known.
Carla’s hand with the rolled up paper dropped in an instant and her eyes widened as she looked at you in surprise.
“M…Manager, He…”
Baekhyun’s face whipped to look to you and you noted the apprehension in his eyes and the way he pulled his lips into the smallest pouty frown.
“Carla, why don't you and Emily work together on this? I know you’ve been working very hard all alone this week. Emily, let’s push back your workload to next week, hmm?” You pivoted to address the rest of your team as to not call attention to Carla alone.
“Everyone, let’s not stack everything on the edge of our desks. Let’s try and keep a clean workspace for everyone so accidents like this don't happen so often.”
You did your best to keep any bit of reproach out of your voice and it must have worked just enough to satisfy the easily excited girl because she closed up her mouth and flattened out her angry eyebrows with a small shrug.
You weren't above cleaning up a little mess here and there. As soon as you were done talking you dropped down to your knees and started gathering the papers up into a stack, the moment you moved, the rest of the team all dropped to their knees to do the same. Baekhyun was the first at your side, reaching for papers and pulling them out of your hands as you made neat stacks and he placed them carefully on the opposite side of Carla’s desk next to the partition, safe from literally anyone who might want to walk through this office.
“Baekhyun, I have a meeting upstairs, why don't you tag along so you can see what that’s like?”
“Yes ma’am,” he whispered beside you with a smile building on his face again and he moved quickly, keeping directly behind your steps as you moved down the hallway to the elevators.
“Noona, I’m so sorry about that earlier — I didn’t mean to cause trouble. I don't even know how it happened. All of a sudden she was just yelling at me. ”
“Manager, Baekhyun,” you corrected quickly as you stepped into the elevator first and he followed behind with a sheepish smile creeping up on his face. “And you didn't cause any trouble. You were just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
“You were so cool though. You felt like a hostage negotiator, freeing me from my kidnapper. What did you think of my resume? Am I a man that meets your high standards?” His questions came in rapid succession one after another and you held your composure well at the mention of that damned resume of his.
That resume and those muscles.
“You’re smart and you seem capable enough,” and young and firm and handsome as all hell, “I’m sure you’ll do fine while you are here.”
You gripped your calendar in your fist and tapped it lightly against his belly. He grunted once and grabbed it with his free hands. “Pay attention to that. You’ll need to follow my schedule.”
He smiled and shone brightly in response with an energetic head nod and he spent most of the upstairs meeting leafing through your calendar, making small marks on certain dates and pulling out his cell phone to no doubt copy certain entries into his own phone calendar.
Baekhyun’s first day was eventful but he was very promising. The next days and weeks to come were interesting in a way you hesitated to define.
He proved himself valuable to you instantly. He was indeed smart and capable and had a sense about him that you hadn’t seen before in a coworker. Having him at your side not only made your own job infinitely easier, but you noticed your mood had lightened when he was around.
He was cheerful and funny and although you tried your absolute best not to encourage his jokes or god forbid, laugh at them, the first time you slipped and let a quick chuckle out over something stupid he’d said he looked at you with wide eyes and the proudest grin on his face. You had to instantly roll your eyes for damage control.
“That’s the first time I’ve ever made you laugh. Noona, admit it, you like me just a little bit.”
You’d given up on trying to break him of that nickname after the first week of him just ignoring your attempts. The first time you’d answered to it, you knew it was over. You’d screwed up.
And you just did it again with the laugh. He was holding something very important just out of your reach as he sometimes did when his mood grew playful and you had been doing your best not to kick him in the shins so he would drop the stupid thing that you just needed your final signature of approval so you could move on to the next thing that needed your immediate attention.
“I never said I didn’t like you, Baekhyun, this is work. We are working right now. If I miss this deadline that’s it for me and for you and for the entire department out there.”
“So when the project wraps you’ll have a drink with me and then you’ll laugh at all of my jokes? You promise?” He dropped the papers just enough for you to be able to touch the corner of them and you gripped them tightly, pulling them hard into your hands with a force that instantly made him let go. He knew the penalties of destroying something at the last minute and no amount of playfulness would make him risk having to run around re-gathering important person’s signatures with just one hour until shooting began.
It was what you needed and you signed quickly with a pen, passing them back into his arms with an urgency on your voice.
“Fine. Go. Now.” He was out the door without a second word. Of course he was playing about drinks with you. Of course he was playing with you about liking him just a little bit. This was just what he did and he didn't mean any of it at all. This guy was so far out of your league he had his own fan club.
He was very highly sought after by all of the young ladies in this office alone, and you had heard rumors of his popularity in the rest of the building.
Why wouldn't he be joking with you? It made no sense for you to take any of it seriously and you knew it deep down inside of you.
You made for a quick fluff in the mirror on your wall and a touch up of your makeup along with slipping on a classy professional jacket and the heels you kept in your office for situations that required you to look just a little more presentable than usual. You had another meeting to attend for an upcoming project. Something new and different that required you to meet with a whole new team of very important people to sell yourself and your team and their highly sought after skill set. You pressed the elevator button and caught a glimpse of your reflection in the shining silver elevator doors and just behind you saw the familiar bounce of his blonde hair as he rushed to your side to join you at this meeting. He was huffing and puffing from clearly running through the office to get back to you. You noticed the flush in his cheeks and what looked like dust on his jacket. His hair was just a little messy too. You always did your best not to look too closely at Baekhyun. The few times you did allow it your mind would wander into forbidden places and you noticed that it never took very long for him to catch you watching him.
He didn’t need to attend this one. It was more of a schmoozing event than any sort of technical planning meeting but the sight of his bright smile brought you a strange comfort so you didn’t send him away. Inside the elevator you noticed he was watching your face rather closely and when you turned to him in question he lifted a finger up to his lips and pointed.
“Your lipstick has a little smudge.”
Great. Just what you needed. You tried to look your best and just ended up a mess again. You reached up and rubbed lightly below your bottom lip and he shook his head and took a step closer to you and lifted his own hand to your face.
You froze and held your breath and you stared into his face in shock as the tip of his finger ran a path down the edge of your upper lip. He cocked his head to the side and his eyes slipped into your own for a split second and you were sure that you noticed his cheeks darken a shade. Had your own cheeks given you away so easily as well?
Baekhyun cleared his throat but he wasn’t done and he was no longer looking into your eyes as he did this. He made another, firmer pass of his index finger over the edge of your upper lip and you instinctively pulled your lips inward and squeezed them together, pretending as if you needed to spread your lipstick more instead of just getting away from his fingertips that touched you in this quiet and private place.
As you did it, he moved again. His hand lifted to run his fingertips along your temple, where you must have had an errant strand of hair that he slowly and carefully tucked behind your ear. You kept your breathing calm and steady and you kept your face impassive, but the racket inside of your own chest as your heart beat took on a life of its own was distracting and terribly concerning. You were a mess deep down inside. You were just so good at hiding it from him.
“There,” he whispered. “Beautiful,” he said even quieter, almost entirely under his breath just as the sound of elevator dinging made you jump with the sudden intrusion.
You were the first one out. You didn’t hear his footsteps behind you as you usually did and when you risked a quick glimpse behind you, you noticed he hadn’t yet left the elevator and his focus seemed distracted and lost.
“Baek,” you called and his eyes snapped back to life before the elevator doors closed on him. He shook his head lightly and took three big steps to take his place at your side. His smile was nowhere to be found and his eyes didn't quite meet yours and something about him made the air in this blasted hallway feel awkward and claggy and downright difficult to breathe in.
“Oh, I feel—,” you let out a breath through your pursed lips and whispered out loud to yourself as you placed a hand over your chest to calm your beating heart, “—-nervous,” you admitted in defeat, pausing outside of the heavy wooden doors.
“Because of the meeting?” A quiet question eked out in a familiar voice behind you and you refused to meet his eyes.
“Of course, why else?” You answered flatly and quickly but his reply did not come as quick. What came instead was a sharp inhale of breath pulled into the lungs of the man who stood behind you at this door.
“Right,” he said softly with a small exhale through his nose. “Why else.” He agreed out loud. You must have imagined just a hint of disappointment in that exhale. Of course you’d imagined it. It probably originated inside of your own head, really. Everyone knew you had no business feeling any sort of way about your assistant Byun Baekhyun. Whether it be disappointment; or heart flutterings; or attraction; or desire; all of it was off limits.
“Baekhyun, this is a very important meeting.” You inhaled slowly and deeply and stole a glance to your left where Baekhyun stood and you noticed he had what looked like an entire leaf stuck to the top of his head.
What?
The more you looked at him the messier he actually seemed and you knew that behind that door would be a multitude of very important, very rich people who held your future in their hands. People who very likely did not have dirt on their coats and leaves in their hair.
This would not do. There was an empty hallway near the stairwell at the end of the corridor. You’d often used that quiet space to regroup before these kinds of meetings. You knew there was a bench and a clock on the wall that did not tick as it’s big hands spun around its face. You reached for his arm and pulled him
“Why are you so messy? What happened to you?” You pulled him fast and he complied with rushed steps to the sanctuary of that quiet space and when you pushed at his shoulders, sending him down to sit in front of you on the bench, he did so with a soft grunt of surprise and zero resistance. Baekhyun never ever resisted anything from you. You’d overheard him downright arguing with some of the other staff members before but he took being your assistant quite seriously and treated even small requests from you as if they had been laws set in stone to follow.
He was just a little bit ridiculous but mostly he was just the best.
“Before, when I was getting signatures, the paper flew away in the wind and I had to chase it down. There was a bush…” You brushed at his coat with your fingertips, patting harder to get some of the dirt to fall off and you had to step closer to him to get at the leaves in his hair. There were two and they were small and dried and they crumbled into a million bits when you grabbed them, making you have to pull apart the strands of his blonde hair carefully to remove every last bit of them.
“…it flew under the bush in the courtyard and I had t-to…”
You knew you were leaning into him and he seemed to abruptly stop his explanations when you took another step placing your feet in the spaces around where his feet parted, you felt the roundness of his kneecap brush against the inside of your inner knee and he had gone completely still and his words quit entirely. The part of your brain where you kept your most incriminating secrets about him sounded alarms and warning bells. You ignored the cacophony in favor of this necessary task at hand.
It took some doing but you’d gotten all of the mess out of his hair. There was a small pile of broken and dried leaves sitting in the palm of your hand and you noticed some more dirt on the breast of his dark blue coat. It was a dark enough colored coat that the dirt would definitely show so you reached down with your empty hand, laying your palm over the spot, you tried to brush the dirt away. It didn’t budge as easily as you wished it would and a second pass with your hand, with more pressure seemed to work better.
It was almost done. He was nearly perfect again but when your hand returned for one more pass your mind’s alarms rang as you caught on to the firmness and the warmth you felt below his coat. the feeling of him inside of these clothes.
Your stupid intrusive thoughts that you did your best to keep at bay surged up again.
Baekhyun was silent and motionless. Baekhyun had done nothing to encourage this. Everything he had ever told you that might have sounded flirtatious was said in jest. He was joking. He was always joking with you, that was just his way. But he sure did joke a lot with you. You often found yourself confused and frustrated by him.
The dust was gone. He could go now. You could let him go. He was ready to face them.
“There,” you said in a soft whisper, beautiful you thought in secret. Your whisper felt an appropriate tone of voice for such a quiet and secluded hideaway such as this and you mustered up the nerve to remove your hand from his chest so you could throw this trash away and attend your damn meeting.
You rocked back on your feet, shifting your balance away from where he sat on this bench, introducing some distance between the two of you. Then you moved your hand away from his chest for a fraction of a second you no longer felt the warmth and the firmness of his body below your palm and you began to pivot on your heels, you began to turn away from him and extract yourself entirely from this fantastical and impossible situation you had been entertaining inside of your own silly imagination. Only when you shifted so did he and rather than the warmth of his chest under the palm of your hand you felt the slow moving heat of his hand covering over the back of your own hand.
The sensation caught you off guard and you froze mid step, looking down to see it happening. You felt the smoothness of his fingertips tracing an achingly dizzying path up your wrist and higher until your entire hand had been covered completely by his.
You took another step away from him. This was strange. This was some sort of trick of your imagination again.
Your eyes sought out his eyes for answers only the look you saw in his expression did not give you any insight at all. He was watching you with a sort of detachment from this, from you; similar to the same look you’d seen from him in the elevator earlier. Similar to the look you’d seen from him many times over the course of the last few months of working closely with him.
You needed more answers than his face could give and when you took another step the grip he had on your hand tensed and he held on tighter and suddenly he was in motion as his thigh muscles tensed up and he stood on own two feet.
Your mind was consumed by confusion and uncertainty when his movements did not stop.
Baekhyun took a step into you, undoing the distance you had carefully and desperately put between your body and his body and out of the corner of your eye you caught movement in his other hand.
The fragments of seconds of time were insufficient to process any of this. If he was playing some sort of a trick, he was taking it too far for sure. Your heart was entirely too weak to take this kind of behavior from him.
Baekhyun’s hand lifted — he sought to touch the side of your face and at the same time, the distance between the two of you shrunk in an instant as he moved in. You watched on in surprise and in shock until every detail of Byun Baekhyun’s face blurred and you felt the warm wetness of his lips that landed over your own surprised ones.
He kissed you.
He had kissed you.
In this space, this quiet space that was once only yours, he had kissed you and you were frozen in this moment without even the ability to comprehend how this man could have done this, or why he had done this, or what, if anything at all was the punchline of this particular joke of his.
He had kissed you and he was still kissing you and your frozen reaction must have been what brought him to his senses.
He opened his eyes and his lips retreated just enough for him to pull back and look into your face. You made a sound. It was the smallest questioning hum from the back of your throat and you shook your head a microscopic amount to try and clear the static happening inside your brain.
“Uhh,” you finally managed and he had dropped his hold on your hand and closed his eyes up tight.
He looked to his left and then he looked to his right. Both spaces were empty. You were standing in front of him but he did not look at you.
His eyes closed up again and you saw him pull his lips in between his teeth and he bit down and exhaled a huff through his nose before pulling his expression into the smallest wince.
“Shit,” he whispered. He looked behind himself. He looked up at the ceiling and he looked down at the floor. He wasn’t actually looking anywhere but you knew for absolute certainty that he was not looking at you.
You swallowed away the dryness inside of your mouth at the sound of that tiny curse word and the unimaginably tiny sting you felt inside of your chest when you heard him say it.
This was okay.
This was fine.
It was just a mistake; a joke taken too far. He was silly by nature and you did not need to read anything into this little blunder of his. You definitely didn't want to make him feel bad about having made this mistake. Maybe this suffocating ache inside of your chest was the punchline. You could feel its tendrils creeping up inside.
Ha! Ha! Stupid old lady.
No. No, This was okay.
This was fine.
The clock on the wall called to you and you watched the minute hand join up with the hour hand as the two became one and it was 12 noon. It was time for both of you to be inside that meeting room instead of out here playing jokes on each other and instantly regretting it.
His gaze followed yours, touching upon that clock and understanding the task at hand and you stood straighter, fixed your skirt and jacket, made sure your button up blouse was still closed up tight, and you made a few steps toward the trash can to throw away the dried leaves from his hair and from what felt like ages ago and you heard his footsteps follow you down the hallway to enter the meeting room.
You did not hold the door open behind you and you did not listen carefully for the comforting sound of his footsteps behind you. When you opened the door to walk inside you did not do so with any regard for anyone else in the world — especially not for someone like Byun Baekhyun, who’s father’s name adorned the outside of this enormous building and even your paychecks. Especially not for Byun Baekhyun who had exactly three weeks left of his detail in the International Subbing Department before he moved on to QC or AD or wherever the hell he wanted to go when he left you.
