Hatshepsut
Hatshepsut (r. 1479-1458 BCE) was the first female ruler of ancient Egypt to reign as a male with the full authority of pharaoh. Her name means "Foremost of Noble Women" or "She is First Among Noble Women". She began her reign as regent to her stepson Thutmose III (r. 1458-1425 BCE) who would succeed her.
Initially, she ruled as a woman as depicted in statuary but, at around the seventh year of her reign, she chose to be depicted as a male pharaoh in statuary and reliefs though still referring to herself as female in her inscriptions. She was the fifth pharaoh of the 18th Dynasty during the period known as the New Kingdom (c. 1570 to c. 1069 BCE) and regarded as one of the most prosperous and the era of the Egyptian Empire.
Although she is sometimes cited as the first female ruler of Egypt, or the only one, there were women who reigned before her such as Merneith (r. c. 3000 BCE) in the Early Dynastic Period (probably as regent) and Sobeknefru (r. c. 1807-1802 BCE) in the Middle Kingdom and Twosret (r. 1191-1190 BCE) after her toward the end of the 19th Dynasty. Hatshepsut, though not the first or last, is undoubtedly the best-known female ruler of ancient Egypt after Cleopatra VII (r. c. 69-30 BCE) and one of the most successful monarchs in Egyptian history.Historian Marc van de Mieroop expresses the conventional view of Hatshepsut when he notes how she "has become one of the most celebrated and controversial women of Egypt and the ancient world in general" (172). She is celebrated as a powerful female ruler whose reign was extremely successful and this is the same reason for the controversy: according to Egyptian tradition, no woman should have been able to assume the full power of pharaoh.
Further, her name was erased from her monuments following her death which strongly suggests that someone, most likely Thutmose III, wanted to remove all evidence of her from history. Later scribes never mention her and her many temples and monuments were often claimed to be the works of later pharaohs.
Her existence only came to light fairly recently in history when the orientalist Jean-Francois Champollion (l. 1790-1832 CE), most famous for deciphering the Rosetta Stone, found he could not reconcile hieroglyphics indicating a female ruler with statuary obviously depicting a male. These hieroglyphics were found in the inner chambers of Hatshepsut's temple at Deir el-Bahri; all public recognition of her had been erased.
Since the Egyptians believed that erasing one's name from history hampered one's afterlife, it is believed that whoever removed her from public knowledge did not wish her ill after death and so preserved her name in more secluded areas. It has also been suggested that her name was simply overlooked in some places out of the public eye. Hatshepsut's building projects were numerous, after all, and it is certainly possible that those responsible for blotting her name out simply missed some. Efforts to erase Hatshepsut from memory were ultimately unsuccessful, however, as she is well known today as one of the greatest pharaohs of ancient Egypt.
Early Life & Rise to Power
Hatshepsut was the daughter of Thutmose I (r. 1520-1492 BCE) by his Great Wife Ahmose. Thutmose I also fathered Thutmose II by his secondary wife Mutnofret. In keeping with Egyptian royal tradition, Thutmose II was married to Hatshepsut at some point before she was 20 years old. During this same time, Hatshepsut was elevated to the position of God's Wife of Amun, the highest honor a woman could attain in Egypt after the position of queen and, actually, bestowing far more power than most queens ever knew.
The position of God's Wife of Amun at Thebes began as an honorary title for a woman of the upper class who assisted the high priest in his duties at the Great Temple of Amun at Karnak. The title is first mentioned in the Middle Kingdom (2040-1782 BCE) as an honorific bestowed on a king's wife or daughter. By the time of the New Kingdom, however, a woman holding the title of God's Wife of Amun was powerful enough to dictate policy (though not as powerful as she would become later in the Third Intermediate Period).
Amun was the most popular god at Thebes and, in time, came to be seen as the creator god and king of the gods. In her role as this god's wife, Hatshepsut would have been considered his consort and would have presided over his festivals. This would have essentially elevated her to the status of a divine being in that it would have been her role to sing and dance for the god at the beginning of festivals to arouse him for the creative act; by engaging directly with the god, she would have taken on an elevated status. The details of the exact duties of the God's Wife of Amun are unclear but it is certain that it was a very powerful office which would only become more so later in Egypt's history.
Hatshepsut and Thutmose II had a daughter, Neferu-Ra, while Thutmose II fathered a son with his lesser wife Isis. This son was Thutmose III who was named his father's successor. Thutmose II died while Thutmose III was still a child and so Hatshepsut became regent, controlling the affairs of state until he came of age. In the seventh year of her regency, though, she changed the rules and had herself crowned pharaoh of Egypt. She took on all the royal titles and names which she had inscribed using the feminine grammatical form but had herself depicted as a male pharaoh. Van de Mieroop writes:
Whereas she had been represented as a woman in earlier statues and relief sculptures, after her coronation as king she appeared with male dress and gradually became represented with male physique. Her breasts did not show and she stood in a traditional man's posture rather than a woman's. Some reliefs were even re-carved to adjust her representation to appear more like a man. (172)
Her statuary showed her in all her royal grandeur in the forefront with Thutmose III rendered on a smaller scale behind or below her to indicate his lower status. She still referred to her stepson as the king but he was so in name only. Hatshepsut clearly felt she had as much right to rule Egypt as any man and her depiction in art stressed this. Historians Bob Brier and Hoyt Hobbs comment on this:
Her male garb was not intended to fool the citizens into believing their pharaoh was male. Statues unequivocally portray a female, whose sex, in any case, would have been obvious to any Egyptian from her name, "She is First Among Noble Women". Rather than denying her femininity, she was proclaiming that she was also a pharaoh, an office that traditionally had been held by a man. (30)
Recognizing that she was in uncharted waters, Hatshepsut took steps to legitimize her reign quickly. If her position as pharaoh were to be challenged, she was not going to allow herself to simply disappear.

thou upon the eyes of the serpent - paranoid!adam bahri x male!reader

Countless times he's known it before, that you'd leave and he'd end up like a bloody mess. He was bleeding from the inside out, well, the blood on the outside was rarely his. Adam Bahri, who is now dragging a body of someone he just recently stabbed over and over. It's sickening. But, an unusual attraction started to form as soon as he met you. Hello neighbor~
His eyes, radiate upon you. His longing, his attractions. What is this exactly? Why is he catching these emotions when he sees you, a person of the same sex? Could it be? Adam has had a fair share for "straight" love, but you are just so peculiar. You, are what attracts him. Attracts him hard enough to stare at you for hours at a time.
Adam is an evil-doer, a manipulative, and despicable human being. But, could you be his last chance at attempting to find love? Times later, he starts to become extremely paranoid of how you're doing. Times where he'd watch you from the window and thought of all the possibilities that could happen, he could just snatch you up and drag you back to his place.
Adam is way too paranoid to let you go freely, so he decided to befriend you with his charismatic personality, his charm. Always occupying you so he could think of the perfect time to strike, and not let anybody have you forever. He knows it's wrong. He knows he shouldn't be doing this, but he can't just let you slip away, he needs you, he wants you forever. He loves you.
Adam persisted upon making your friends silent, almost like one by one they all had stopped talking, perhaps now hanging around in the backyard of his home. You were isolated, with only Adam to help you with the pain of loneliness, begging just why exactly did all your friends just disappear?
"It's probably because they're assholes.." Adam said to you as he chuckles and scoffs. "Hey, I'm here for you remember?" Adam reassured his loyalty by prying into your more vulnerable side. It's only a matter of time where you start finding more new friends, making Adam more angry by the second, this time he needs a backup, and that was to take you away from all of them, to grasp you forever.
His eyes watch your every move, his ears listen as you pitter-patter on his doorstep, ready to ring the doorbell of his door. Adam, hurriedly rushing to the door as his breaths become fast, he craves you. Moving from Apartment to Houses on a street, he's finally found you.
Who knows what could've happened after the door shut, you weren't heard or seen till the morning. After having a decent conversation with Adam, as his heart thumps madly against his chest, he smirks as his hands clamp around your mouth, and it all went black from there. "You will know how much I really do love you, Y/N... My precious boy..." Adam caresses your cheek as you were tied down.
"Please stop struggling, it only makes me more happy~" Adam chuckles and smirks. You gasp and struggle beyond your breath. Unbelieving this whole situation within Adam, who is kissing your hand all the way to your wrist. "You deserve someone to take care of you, my poor Y/N~" Adam smirks. No matter what he says, it's all true. Even though you can't possibly falling for this guy and, oh wait.. you are.
"You're not even struggling anymore?~" Adam chuckles and smiles. "My poor Y/N~ I was so worried about losing you towards anyone else~ Nobody's ever loved you like this huh?~" You nod your head yes, you've never felt intense love like this before, but you couldn't say that you weren't into it. "Turns out you're way more crazy than I thought~" Adam says, as he smirks.
What are you even doing? He's abducting you for fuck's sake. But, what else is there do anymore back home? You were too scared to admit, but you also do love Adam. "I love you Y/N~" Adam chuckles. "Promise me, nobody is taking you again?~ Oh wait, nobody will because I have already!~" Adam chuckles and laughs, more psychotic than ever as his eyes widen at the sight of yours.
Adam begins to kiss all over your body. "Nnh love you Y/N~ Mwa~ Mm Love you~" His muffled voice echoed on your body as he smothers his face in your body, kissing it roughly as you whimper, all tied up to his plans. "You taste amazing~" Adam asserts. He takes off his shirt revealing his muscular body, as he strips down for you, on the bed with you, just smothering you with kisses till you can't breathe.
His thick cock rubs against you as Adam rips off your clothes. "Wait!" You scream out, as you start to see Adam's eyes widen yet again as he psychotically smiles. "You're mine now!~" Adam shoves his cock deep inside your ass as you practically moan out in pleasure. Your voice turns him on within each scream of his cock inside you, impaling you. "Scream LOUDER!~" Adam psychotically laughs as he pounds deep through your ass, down your tight walls his cock goes, fucking you with every inch.
The more Adam pants as his paranoia finally seeps through his thrusts, fucking you at an inhumane pace as he psychotically laughs at your screams of pleasure. "It seems like you're enjoying this hm?!~" Adam giggles as his thrusts kept fucking you more and more deep into oblivion. "WHO'S MY GOOD BOY?!~" Adam yells out as he goes even faster. "Taking my cock like this, WHO DO YOU BELONG TO?!~" Adam drools at his name being yelled out, it thrilled him to have you as his for once.
His balls slam against your ass as you scream out bloody pleasure. Within each thrust, it sends you back more and more to the euphoric pleasure of plunging deep down into the depths of ecstasy. "FUUUCK!~ I'M GOING TO CUMMM!~" Adam yells out as he grabs you by the throat, psychotically laughing and smiling as he thrusts harder and faster down your tight ass, his cock invading your walls within each thrust deeper and deeper. As the sweet relief of white rivers burst inside your hole, filling you up.
"You're mine Y/N~ All mine!~ NOBODY BUT ME CAN HAVE YOU!~" Adam chuckles and laughs out loud as you passed out unconscious. A happy ending for Adam, but not for the public, who were concerned from your disappearance, posters hung up of where did you go. But you were nowhere to be found, all that you know however, was that you came to live a happy ending with your destined lover Adam Bahri and only Adam Bahri as he tightly hugs you in an embrace where you can never escape his cuddles.
"Forever~" He mutters as he chuckles to himself seeing your graceful sleep and snores. "Y/N~ My boy~" Adam keeps chuckling, as all the fear and troubles wear away, just hope that you won't try to go to his backyard though, because somewhere deep in the hidden soil, lied the people who have fallen into Adam's demise. Forever and after you were Adam's, and only Adam's. A last chance for true love, and not just another victim buried in soil. You were his to keep forever.
"I love you~" Mwah.

Hello 🤗 can I pls request headcanons for Adam Bahri, where he genuinely falls in love (becomes obsessed 🙄) with a female reader who was initially his target. How do you think he will confess to her, what it will be like to date him and what he would be like when he's jealous?
Thank you ❤️❤️
Obsessed ll Adam Bahri ll The guy upstairs
Headcannons of where Adam Bahri from the guy upstairs becomes obsessed with his original target.
Warnings: Mentions of murder, Mentions of being a yandere, Swearing, Slight stalking.
Omg, thank you so much for this request. This webtoon is one that I really want to experiment with writing with, especially since this is such a good idea! I hope you enjoy these headcanons (Even as they turned into a more yandere-story) 💗 💗
-You were originally "chosen" by Adam as his next murder victim because of his physical attraction towards you. (And also because of convenience, as you lived next door).
-Everything about your eyes, smile, presence, and face made him instantly drawn in.
-Later when he began to know you better, he liked how you immediately saw more to him than his appearance.
-Once you become one of the more prioritized people on his list, suddenly, he would appear everywhere around you.
-Bookstores, cafes, museums, etc. Even in school zones, such as your university library.
-For instance, the first time he had actually approached you (outside of occasional glances while walking past each other, which seemed to increase drastically in the last few months, and with an ever-present smile) Was at an art exhibit.
-Groups of oil paintings brought to life with each stroke of a paintbrush, starting from darkest to lightest, with the final touches of highlights.
-You had been carefully examining a painting of a poised lady with one of those fancy hats accompanied by a white feather. She wasn't smiling or scowling, although the way the artist painted her skin was phenomenal as if her skin was created from porcelain.
-Awestruck by the painting, you barely noticed as a tall shadow had cast over you.
-The sudden presence had caused you to quickly spin around, seeing a man with dark hair and eyes who looked oddly familiar.
"Sorry, I didn't mean to scare you." He said gently, smiling. "I live in the same apartment complex as you, on the same floor."
-At the time, you had recognized him and had thought nothing else of the matter.
-Once you both introduced yourself, he smoothly asked you to get coffee with him.
-That became the start of an eventual relationship, although it was probably not the healthiest one, as you know, one of them is a *cough cough* murderer.
-He had confessed unpredictably when he randomly asked you to hang out.
-While dating him, he would probably be a sweet person towards you (as shown by his previous relationships) while strategically thinking of when to kill you.
-Although, he would always pull back before he could actually commit the act.
-You were a sweet person, similar to previous victims, although you weren't as aloof as he presumed you would be. This would lead to meaningful conversations between you both, and eventually an obsession with you.
-He also couldn't figure out what was such a big factor leading to this, making him have an eventual yandere-like obsession.
-Because of this, whenever you talk to other people or whenever others show interest in you, they will somehow be found dead.
-Most of the murders of people around you would be because of his rooted jealousy.
Overall:
-I can't see Adam actually falling in love unless it's more like an obsession.
-Although, once he does, I doubt he would be able to turn back.
-If you want a more detailed oneshot of this topic, please feel free to request it again!
-I actually love this series sm, so thanks again for your idea.

I’ve been on that Webtoon grind and I wanna rant about one of my favorites currently
The Guy Upstairs - Rozy is a Fantastic Character and I Love Her
Note: as of writing this Episode 45 has just released, so spoiler warning for everything up to that point
One of my favorite parts of this story is the protagonist, Rozy. Her characterization at the beginning of the story makes her seem like the “normal” one. As in contrast to Hawa and of course, Adam, the reader is led to believe that Rozy is a normal person who just happened to witness a murder.
We get introduced to her as kind of a loner, but this only reinforces a cooler, more levelheaded and logical front that the reader initially sees Rozy as. She’s a kind of reflection of cool, calm, collected detectives you see in detective novels or shows.
However, we also see her as just a normal person, her relationship with Hawa and her banter with Ravi reinforces this. So we get two sides of Rozy, one that makes her relatable to the audience and one that makes her a compelling protagonist.
Her being relatable to the audience is what makes The Guy Upstairs a thriller, rather than a mystery. She’s put into a very terrifying situation, witnessing a murder, and knowing that the murderer lives so close to her. Rozy takes matters into her own hands by putting up security for herself, she’s prepared because she *knows* there is a clear and present threat to her.
but this changes so drastically when Hawa gets involved. Hawa is her own person, Rozy knows this but is also aware of how naive she can be. Rozy does whatever she can in order to protect Hawa, but Hawa’s trusting nature and Adam’s desire to mess with Rozy makes Hawa ultimately feel as if she can’t be honest with Rozy because of Rozy’s cautious behavior.
This begins a character shift in Rozy, at least to the audience. Rozy is slowly losing her control over everything happening. She can attempt to protect herself the best she can, but she can’t control Hawa’s actions. This is when we get to see one of Rozy’s major weaknesses and my favorite part about her.
Rozy *is* paranoid, she’s clearly very cautious for a reasons outside of the events with Adam. Rozy is paranoid about many things, from one event she draws seemingly logical conclusions on her own, and act accordingly to them. This works together with Rozy’s other flaw, her closed off nature.
In Rozy’s mind, her conclusion drawn from one event is a definite possibility. One that she has to plan for and go forward from there. But she doesn’t bring anyone along with her, she won’t because this is the truth she’s living in.
Due to her paranoia, she ends up isolating herself. The only person she reaches out to (Alex) for help is because she recognizes her limitations. It is because her series of events that she believes will happen are realistic in these limitations is what holds Rozy back from confiding in others.
This isolation and loneliness, with the one person she cares about so much at risk of being taken away, her fear of losing Hawa ultimately pushes Hawa away and what amplifies one of the scariest experiences when it comes to the mind.
Not knowing if you can trust yourself.
Rozy, a character whose actions have been dictated by her interpretation of events, can’t even be completely sure whether that event even happened. Rozy’s paranoia becomes detrimental to her in this phase. When you cannot trust yourself, it makes an infinite amount of possibilities that are “logical”. As someone as cautious as Rozy, assuming the worst is the safest option she can choose.
Rozy hears that Hawa hates people who see the worst in others and internalizes that as Hawa hating her, combined with the tense conversation they had previously as well as this comment being directed towards her, logically, it makes sense for Rozy to assume this. Rozy ended up losing Hawa because if everything went how she thought it would go, this would’ve never happened. But Hawa is her own person who is ignorant to the reality that Rozy sees.
Rozy has a choice to make, with Hawa becoming closer to Adam, it makes it all that much easier for Adam to kill Hawa. Rozy’s passive aggression towards Adam will not work because it only takes one night for Hawa to be gone. She either has to take matters into her own hands, trust herself and the events she witnessed, even when everyone around her tells her that this couldn’t have happened, when she has no evidence to suggest otherwise, when her situation that night was hazy, she realizes the amount of doubt she really has.
If she decides to doubt herself then she can’t trust anything anymore. She doesn’t trust other people, she can’t trust herself. In fact, if she’s wrong, she’s been the one who’s been a bad person. She alone was the one who ruined her relationship with Hawa and there’s no excuse she can hide behind. She’ll truly be broken as a person with no one to turn to, because within her own paranoid mind, she had already lost the one person who would listen.
And this is exactly the type of person that is perfect for Adam’s mind games. As he, himself, was potentially this kind of person.
I’ll elaborate on that if I ever decide to make a follow-up on this. I mostly focused on Rozy’s relationship with Hawa but her connection to other characters is also interesting and warrants a post in of itself!
This is all my interpretation of the story and characters, Rozy resonates with me a lot because I’m very experienced in gaslighting myself. I wanted to write out my thoughts and talk about stories that I think deserve more love!!
Anyway read My Deepest Secret and The Guy Upstairs if you haven’t already, both really wonderful and I may compare the protagonists of the two later on if I feel like it. I’m not opposed to talking about other webtoons either, this one’s characters just resonated with me in particular.

just finished binging the entire The Guy Upstairs webtoon. i genuinely think this is in my top 3 favorite webtoons ive ever read, right behind Purple Hyacinth and Schoolbus Graveyard.
one thing i feel like i care about in a story more than the average person is how well the author covers plot holes and keeps the story watertight, and i think this webtoon does that really well. throughout reading the story, whenever i start thinking about how a situation could have been prevented, i find myself realising that realistically, it kind of couldnt have? like there isnt a single character in the story who does anything really stupid or out of character to force the plot forwards in any way, and i really like that.
*SPOILER ALERT FOR EP 41 OF THE WEBTOON*
at this point in the story, hawa is pretty weirded out by how rozy really doesnt want her to be in a relationship with adam, and yet she STILL remembers and takes into account rozy’s advice telling her not to be alone with adam.
i love that.
in a lesser story, hawa at this point would already have forgotten rozy’s advice and be head over heels for adam to increase the drama in this story.
and yet, the author of this story knows theyre writing 3-dimensional characters and doesnt just make hawa throw aside a years long friendship for a month long relationship.
in the end the advice doesnt really end up mattering cus adam manages to convince hawa to stay anyways, but thats fine cus its also realistic that she’d fall for his pressuring and for me its the fact that hawa even thought of the advice that counts.
also, MALAYSIA REPRESENTATION RAAAAAHHHHH 🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾🇲🇾WHAT IS A STABLE POLITICAL PARTY 🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅🐅
