So, my office is having a friendly baking contest this week. (I work in the best office!) And since I was unable to convince anyone to let me sub in Becky as my proxy, I find myself making biscuits for the very first time! In fact, though I have pretty good cooking skills, baking has always been an area I’ve stayed away from. The most I’ve ever baked “from scratch” is Toll House Cookies from the recipe on the back of the package. Other than that it’s mainly been box brownies and such. So not only is this the first time I’ve ever baked biscuits, these are the first serious baked good I’ve even even attempted! According to the rules, Becky kept out of it and just coached me Gordon Ramsey style from the side! (Mostly Masterchef Jr Gordon Ramsey, fortunately.) I think they turned out pretty good! At least Becky and my housemate Ben liked them. The one pictured on my plate at the end is the least pretty biscuit, the one made from the rolling and cutting scraps at the very end. But served with my homemade garlic dill herb butter, it was still damn tasty! My coworkers are all excellent bakers, so I’m just hoping to stay in the game. But I think I’m still in play, so fingers crossed! Tonight's adventure! I just got a set of #russianballpipingtips which make these adorable ruffle patterns so I threw together a red velvet box mix and a small batch of swiss meringue buttercream (black is chocolate, pink is vanilla) to test them out! They make icing cup cakes super easy, but they do leave a hole in the center when you lift off. It's really easy to fill with more icing, candy, etc tho so it actually gives you a chance to get more creative! So I used one of the tips from my flower set.
