How good does Kirby characters sing

Headcanon involved.

Kirby:-1/10. He loves to sing, it's okay if he sing mindlessly, but his usual voice with Mic copy ability can absolutely destroy lives.

King Dedede: 8/10. He performs Enka (One kind of traditional Japanese singing) among others.

Meta Knight: 4/10. Sometimes he loses control over his deep voice.

Bandana Waddle Dee:7/10. Really cute and young voice.

Marx: 1/10. He is a good performer with charisma, but it didn't change the fact that his singing is basically screaming.

Susie: 8.5/10. She has been interested in singing since she was a child and she sings super good.

Magolor: 7/10. He reaches some high notes.

Sectonia: 11/10. She is a professional vocalist.

Taranza: 5/10. Although he has been trained in music, his singing is moderate.

Gooey: 7/10. No doubt, super cute.

Star Dream: ???/10. Do you want it to be another Miku? If that so, it sings pretty good.

Elfilin: 8/10. He can't get to lower range, but he has good singing skills.

Fecto Elfilis: 10/10. Surprisingly amazing. Their singing is powerful and they have a big vocal range.

Zero: 2/10. Don't ask.

DMS: 3/10. It's kinda unusual hearing him singing.

Morpho Knight: 1/10. His voice take people's sanity away.

More headcanons I thought of since the last one

- Prince Fluff (gijinka, I don’t think puffballs can do this) knows how to do ariel silk so he has a tendency to just fall out of trees right next to people at eye level, scaring them as he dangles

- that does mean he hangs around with Taranza quite a bit.

-After the events of epic yarn, Fluff trained himself to properly use his whip to the point where fighting him is actually scary. He also uses it to grab things he needs, wether it be on the top shelf or just out of hands reach. He uses it so often that he’s able to grab a full cup without it spilling, very spiderman like.

-DDD is stupid good at rhythm games, mostly taiko no tatsujin; Meta enjoys shoot/beat ‘em ups and bullet hells; Kirby mainly plays puzzle games and platformers

-None of the main 4 Meta-Knights are cis. There is no way.

-The only plant that Kirby can keep alive are (maxim) tomato plants, he has tried branching out. It does not work.

-Morpho Knight makes their own teas, most are floral.

- Meta can’t drive. Legally or physically. Don’t let him drive anything, he is impatient and will always speed and crash. No, he can’t drive the Halberd either, that’s what Axe Knight is for

- All the star allies have a star somewhere on their uniforms/armor/clothing, very Steven Universe/crystal gem like, I thought it’d be cool

- DDD was definitely the type to make bad interior design decisions. Like, he would put a shirt on a hanger and put it on the wall or paint his walls that one bright aqua color that every kid painted their walls and/or have an eyesore of a wallpaper. Thank Nova for the dees.

Also, all the star allies, and just most of Kirby’s friends, are close with one another and will often train and spar together. This not only gives me the excuse to pair up random characters to do mundane stuff like shopping and hanging out, but also let’s me make random scenarios for the on and off battlefield:

- going back to Fluff, he typically tries to get his opponent’s weapons out of their hand, if they don’t have a weapon, oh well.

- Fluff also figured out that he could grab and throw people, this ended up in him accidentally grabbing Meta Knight’s leg as he was in the air and slamming him on the ground. There was already quite a crowd, so the silence was deafening. (Meta recovered quick and was very impressed).

- DDD found out that hitting the ground hard enough will disorientate people, he uses it frequently

- Ribbon is one to rush, making quick, fast, up-close movements

- Taranza lays webs everywhere he can, one wrong step and you’re wrapped up like a present

- Ribbon vs Susie = cowboy standoff

- Marx just tries to scare people out of bounds, he has no plans

- The animal friends and the mage sisters just enjoy having like 8 people on the field

- Bandana dee and Fluff like to play sandbox and simulator games (think slime rancher, stardew valley, job simulator, the sims, etc.) it’s very calming.

- Those born/made in the mirror and yarn dimensions don’t feel pain as strongly as others, especially out of their own dimensions. This does mean Fluff and Dark Meta have, on multiple occasions, have worked themselves to exhaustion, but they’re never by themselves when they get too tired, as stubborn as they both are that they don’t need help.

 - Parasol, Sailor, and Bandana dee are all identical triplets, only in looks though, personality wise, very few similarities.

- When Dreamland was no longer yarn, Fluff hated the way grass and water felt. On the other hand, gooey, dark matter swordsman, 0, 02, etc, love the way grass feels

- Sailor dee is very good at sewing, if anyone on the Halberd has a tear in their clothes or wants something made, they go to Sailor. None of them know how to buy formal wear, Sailor makes all of it. Spear Knights likes to help.

- Queen Ripple, Prince Fluff, and DDD like to hang out. They don’t act all royally, they already do that all day, what usually happens is they get take out, crash on the couch of whoever’s castle is closest and gossip

- Gooey, Parasol Dee, and Nago sun bathe and nap together.

- Flamberge and Dark Meta are good at death metal screams, neither of them even listen to any genre of metal.

- Meta Knight is still in contact with Sword and Blade Knight, he makes sure to invite them whenever a big event is going on

Here's my little side AU!

It's not a serious story like Dreams of the Stars, and just something of my own for funsies! I don't intend to make a series of this, more-so just little drawings or mini comics every now and then. DotS is my main AU and comic series still!

This is my SkyCotL Mago AU, and it's a mix of different types of AUs in one. Genderbend? You got it. Roleswap? Absolutely! There's also a personality swap between characters, and what-if scenarios all jammed into one Kirby AU set in a noir/spacepunk + 30s-60s swing era

It's a lot of what-ifs put into fruition while having SkyCotL on the side! It's wholesome, adorable, and really sweet! No serious angst in this (for now), but some heartfelt troubles and such. Absolutely a comfort AU LOL

So here's the whole gang together! Not everyone's roles are swapped, I'll say— it's a mixed bag of this that and whatever because whoever said you had to stick to one particular thing in a swap-type AU HEHEHE

Quick look lore/info on each individual below:

Allow me to tell you a bit about each individual here, starting with our lead, Skye:

The Magolor of this Magoverse flavored AU, this is Magoloria— a rising star from Floralia. She sings, she dances, she's quite the hit for tons of musical shows across the galaxy! Fashionable, fun, and cute as a button, Skye is a pure-hearted and humble gal. She's a young adult for her species!

Both a genderbend and a personality swap! Her personality is swapped with Joronia's (pre-Sectonia). She's as sweet as can be, and enjoys making herself feel pretty with a vast wardrobe of outfits and costumes. Her taste in fashion is impeccable.

The events of Return to Dreamland occur quite a bit differently for Skye, but I'll save that for another post! But the main premise is that following a decisive battle, hopelessly possessed by the Master Crown's evil, Skye and the shattered Master Crown are spirited away to the decaying Kingdom of Sky (hence her nickname), a land time forgot. The power-drained mage must travel across the realms to reclaim her lost powers, which fell into the hands of the sleeping Elder spirits.

Here's Kirby and Bandana Waddle Dee! Their roles remain unchanged, but their personalities have swapped! Bandee is confident and outgoing, whereas Kirby's a bit less confident, but aspires to be great— despite the fact that he's the most powerful of the group and constantly Popstar's savior. He and Bandee are besties, like brothers!

King Malcom "Meta" Knytte, the presiding king of Dream Land! He's both role-swapped with Dedede, and his personality is swapped with Taranza. He's got the personality of a sopping wet kitten, but is low-key one of the most devastating warriors Dream Land has to offer. His Galaxia's design is more of the anime's than the games because good god I am not drawing the same Galaxia for two different AUs

King Malcolm is a great whistler and plays the piano, but has crippling stage fright. He owns a venue within his kingdom, which has been host to Skye's shows in recent years. He secretly mans backstage in disguise, so commoners won't recognize him (but it's somewhat obvious who he is). Rumor has it, he has an eye for one of the performers, and is secretly in love...

Sir Dedede of Dream Land! He serves the Kingdom of Dream Land. As it's quite obvious, he's role-swapped and personality swapped with Meta Knight, though there's still a sliver of King Dedede's original ego/pride in this guy. He's aloof, something of a loner, and doesn't talk much, but he has a tendency to take aspiring warriors under his wing. His latest apprentice is Bandana Waddle Dee, who serves under King Malcolm too!

And finally, the lovely couple— King Taranza and Queen Joronia! This is half a role-swap and a whole personality swap. Taranza's personality is swapped with Magolor, and Joronia has a partial of Dedede's personality, but stands alone on her own as well. Taranza also takes on Magolor's role as Manager of a theme park.

Though married for centuries, Taranza and Joronia are still in their honeymoon phase, madly in love and have profound crushes on each other!

The two have made their kingdom into an entertainment capital this side of the galaxy, bringing all walks of life onto Popstar to see a wide variety of shows! From circus acts, to live musical performances, and thrilling carnival rides and games, you name it, they got it!

This spicy pair act as parental figures for Skye, and took her under their wing when she was a lone, young girl selling papers to make do

6. cmonn... its kirby. kirby from kirby. he's such a wonderful fellow and so awe inspiring and cute and manifestation of love and friendship. he's a bonus but how could you not love him.

5. pitch!!!!! i love him i love him i love him. og birb with g r e e n colors and squeaky little design. plus he's super fun to use in DL3 :] to me he is a 7 year old kid who wants to be included with the big kids, and tries to act all cool and tough to impress them (but he really just loves his mama). i like drawing him with giant ahoges/head feathers, as well as giving him that long side-beak that i'm pretty sure i got from pato from pocoyo??

4. susie is amazing and wonderful and has a beautifully complex character that more people need to recognize!!! she's a capitalist and constantly has a condescending sales representative demeanor, but at heart she's just a playful girl who loves pink and ice cream and her dad that never got to have a full childhood to experience them. ALSO cyborg susie! i like to think her father let her choose one body modification each year on her birthday, but after the portal incident, she's been giving herself so many alterations that she's barely organic anymore (her voice is very AI sounding to me). uhh i like drawing her with little stars on her cuffs, and as of late i've been making her hair very fluffy (it has the same texture of a barbie doll)

3. RIBBON AAAA!!!!!!!!! i'll admit as a kid i did not like her but god she is a joy. that is a little girl! look at her! i love the idea of her being just a weird little chihuahua girl who performs seances regularly and knows the entire history of weaponry. also her being the crystal knight/guardian of ripple star headcanon!!! 🗣️🗣️ she is 100% the queen's adopted sister prove me wrong. lastly, i try to draw her as heart-shaped as possible— wings, head, hair, bow, eye highlights all vaguely resemble a heart and that is my biggest rule when i draw her. her little coat thing is inspired by @//somethinginworl 's design <33

2. bandana dee is my heart and soul and we tolerate ZERO disrespect for him here. even in canon, he's got one of the most well-defined personalities and backstories for a non-villain character! (in my heart he is the waddle dee from 64 and you can pry this from me with my cold dead hands) he's grown sososo much and i love how hal recognizes his development :]]] he may never amount to the same power as kirby, but goddammit if he doesn't have a heart and will of a true warrior 💜 i don't have a lot of idiosyncratic design choices since he's such a simple character, but his bandana ears must always be HUGE you hear me.

1. um. if you can't tell. i am very normal about adeleine. her moves in SA are super fun to use (and challenging), and oh my goshhhh the angst potential here. i am begging hal to bring her back in future games, especially with the more ancients-focused lore being incorporated recently. at heart though, i just really adore seeing her draw and paint amidst all these magical creatures in her life <3 she's slightly shy but super passionate, and is definitely kirby's big sister with her advice (especially in the storybooks!) and nicknames for him (kir-kun/kirbs in the manga). i caved long ago and gave her curtain bangs, and i really like dressing her up and experimenting with different outfits! *breathes heavily* the happy little artist kid makes me a very happy little artist kid 🫶

Headcanon: 'Star Allies Conferences' exist, and there are rules to follow in them

After the events of Star Allies, this group doesn't completely disband. While they've gone back to living their usual lives, there are periodical meetings that they attend to about 4 times a year. One per season.

These conferences take place in Planet Popstar's biggest country, Dream Land. In some parts of Dream Land, there are castle-like buildings that are similar to King Dedede's castle, and those buildings are the locations for the meetings. The meetings alternate between the buildings, so two meetings don't happen in one building in a row.

The purpose of these meetings is to see how everyone is doing, as well as whatever major events in the universe might be happening that may be worth everyone's attention. Who knows, it's not impossible that there could be a future threat as big as Void Termina that could warrant the star allies to band together to take it down, which is another reason why the group doesn't completely disband.

Kirby himself, of course, is assigned to attend these gatherings.

There are rules to follow in these conferences. The purpose of these rules is to ensure that the events go smoothly, and that everyone can be allowed to get through and leave the event without trouble.

King Dedede is in charge of the conferences, and thus he's the one that enforces the rules. He makes sure that the events go as smoothly as possible. The star allies won't be alone in the events, as there will also be several waddle dees from Dedede's castle that will attend. Should a star ally break a rule without stopping, Dedede can and will ask the waddle dees to escort that star ally out of the room. This headcanon is based on Dedede's line of "I'll be the one to keep the peace!"

Without further ado, let's go over the rules for these conferences:

-No swear words allowed. Kirby is in the meetings, and the pink kid doesn't want to hear swear words, so please don't swear.

-Please don't talk about caterpillars. Kirby is scared of caterpillars, as even just talking about them can freak him out. So don't do it.

-No fights allowed. It is understandable that not all of the star allies get along with each other, but please refrain from fighting, regardless if verbal or physical. We need to let everyone have a chance to get through the event without having struggles with anyone else.

-Don't encourage fights to happen. We're mostly looking at Marx here, who tends to do that as he loves chaos. Please don't do that.

-Taranza and Dark Meta Knight are not allowed to interact or be near each other under ANY circumstance. The reason why this rule exists is because everyone knows that it's impossible to have these two near each other without carnage breaking loose. It is completely understandable that Taranza is blood-lusted over the fact that DMK had involvement in Queen Sectonia's corruption, but we can't have bloodshed in these conferences. This rule is also for the sake of Taranza's mental health, since we're concerned that it would be bad for him to consistently interact with DMK, hence why we try to enforce separation between the two even outside of meetings.

-It is not recommended for either Susie or Dark Meta Knight to be near Meta Knight. This isn't quite as severe as the Taranza and DMK bad blood, but Meta Knight would still feel rather uncomfortable if standing too close to either Susie or DMK, so it'd be for the best to not put him in that kind of situation during these meetings.

-It is best to not have Bandana Waddle Dee be near Marx, Magolor, Taranza, Susie, Dark Meta Knight and the Mage Sisters. We're well aware that you still hate all of them, Bandee. Please don't continue to accuse them of their past deeds, alright? Just let them be.

-Marx is not allowed to provoke anybody in these conferences. This rule exists because Marx is infamous for being a pain in the rear that loves to start stuff with others. Please behave in these meetings, Marx. Fortunately, we're aware that Magolor, Coo, Rick and Kine generally do a good enough job of supervising Marx and keeping him in check. If it's imperative for one of them to keep him under control at all times during a meeting, then please do it.

-Daroach is not allowed to steal anything from anyone. Obviously we can't stop Daroach from being a thief altogether, but please hold on to your thievery during these meetings. We don't need to have someone be upset because you stole something from them.

-The Mage Sisters are not allowed to try to indoctrinate anyone into their Jambastion religion. While we understand that you take pride in your religion and that you'd like to expand it elsewhere, the other star allies don't want to be indoctrinated, so don't push them.

-Don't ask Meta Knight or Dark Meta Knight about their faces behind their masks. It makes them cagey. They don't want to talk about it. It could cause DMK in particular to end up snapping.

-Magolor, let's not promote Merry Magoland or your other products. There may be times where you'll asked to talk about your stuff, and at that point it's okay, but don't bring up if you aren't asked to. The purpose of these meetings isn't to promote your stuff.

-Susie, let's not promote the Haltmann Works Company. We certainly appreciate that you've been shifting that company into a better direction to now be helping people with your technology instead of harming them, and it's fine to talk about it when we ask you to. But don't talk about it when you're not asked to. We don't need to have these meetings be overran by campaigning the HWC.

-Ribbon, let's try to not be possessive over Kirby. We know that you like him quite a bit, but if he wants to hang out with other star allies in the conference, then please let him. There may be times in conferences where he comes to you, so you'll get your moments, ok?

-Don't send art requests to Adeleine during these meetings. Inherently, that in of itself isn't bad, but we want her to feel like she can easily get through these meetings without feeling overwhelmed by art requests. So please just let her be, alright?

-Don't talk about the mirror world. Taranza still holds a grudge against the mirror world as a whole because of Sectonia's corruption, and talking about the mirror world might also make Dark Meta Knight cagey unless he chooses to allow the discussion to happen.

-If someone isn't a part of the star allies, they are NOT allowed to attend. This goes for the Mage Sisters to please stop inviting your lord Hyness to the events. Daroach, don't invite your fellow squeak squad members to join these events. We've also had an incident where Rick and Kine tried to get ChuChu, Pitch and Nago to join, and we thank Coo for stopping that from happening. Don't try to convince Elfilin to join these meetings, either, since he's not a star ally. To make it crystal clear, the only ones allowed to attend are Kirby, all the dream friends, and many of King Dedede's waddle dees to help enforce the rules. Nobody else is allowed to show up.

-Please don't talk about the incidents where King Dedede has been possessed. Our great king has PTSD over all those incidents and doesn't want to talk about them, so please don't make him uncomfortable by having the nerve to bring it up. Not to mention he's in charge of these conferences, so he'll instantly shut that talk down.

-Please don't bring up the death of Queen Sectonia. You'll cause Taranza to break down if you do that. He still mourns her death, so please don't make things complicated for him by bringing it up. We want him to get through these meetings without having to cry.

-Please don't bring up the death of Max Profitt Haltmann. Doing that will make Susie very upset, as she still has grief over him. She has a temperament, and mentioning her father's death could very well end up provoking her into pulling out her gun. We don't want this to occur, so please have decency and don't talk about that subject. This also applies to talking about her past daddy issues in general.

-Please don't talk about Another Dimension during these meetings. The reason why this rule exists is because both Magolor and Susie still have PTSD over their times of being stranded there, especially Susie. We don't want to give them the feelings of old wounds reopening, so let's prevent that by not talking about that place.

-Please don't talk about the time when Hyness sucked the life force out of the Mage Sisters and used their bodies as weapons. That incident is well behind us now, and they've moved to our side. Zan Partizanne in particular will become very upset if you bring it up, so don't do it in order to prevent her from lashing out.

-Francisca is not allowed to talk about her frozen trophy collection. Girl, you're already on thin ice (no pun intended) for choosing to keep that collection even despite us not wanting you to. If you have the gall to talk about it during these conferences, you'll make others freaked out or want to hurl, and we're not going to stand for that.

-To prevent Flamberge from snapping, don't mess with Francisca. We don't need to have the flame general go into a fiery rage and burn things during these conferences, so let's not provoke her by saying or doing anything bad to her precious little sister that she protects.

-Marx is only allowed to talk about clockwork stars for educational purposes. It's fine to talk about them to let others learn more about them, but do not try to convince anyone to go to outer space to summon one. We know what you did to Kirby back in the day. Even if you don't intend to pull something like that again, it's best to not convince anyone to think up of a wish to grant to a clockwork star.

-Don't talk about the Master Crown. Magolor is trying everything he can to leave that incident behind him, and bringing up that incident is going to heavily disrupt that. No need to upset him by doing that.

-Don't bring masks from Merry Magoland into these meetings. Show your true faces, please. We also don't want Taranza or Susie to feel uncomfortable because you chose to wear a Sectonia or Haltmann mask. They came to terms with those masks existing, but please don't rub it in their face. Magolor also won't approve of that.

-Francisca's soda gun is only allowed to be used in a meeting if it's to hydrate Kine. We understand that Kine is supposed to be aquatic, and although he can manage to be on land for a few hours, it could still be helpful to give him a drink. We're fine with Francisca letting him drink from her soda gun. But do not use that soda gun for any other reason whatsoever aside from letting Kine drink from it.

-Nicknames are fine, but cut it out if someone asks you to stop. Some of the star allies aren't really a fan of being called nicknames, so don't make them eventually ticked off by keeping on doing it.

-Everyone, please treat Gooey like a precious boy. Because he is. He deserves to be cherished. Give him all the headpats. King Dedede made this rule exist as he wants to project his feelings about Gooey to everyone else. Not like he can blamed for that!

My Kirby headcanons part.1

Dropping a load of 26🤫

1- Marx has a wardrobe of shirts with questionable jokes and bad words

2- Taranza has a very developed vocabulary 

3- Taranza, Sectonia and the people of the sky all have a british accent 

4- Marx always gets wasted at parties ( if there’s alcohol, he chugs it)

5- Meta knight has a strictly structured routine morning and night 

6- When Meta knight listens to people or make eye contact with them he stares at them in an intimidated way unintentionally and has bad social skills

7- Meta knight has autism and DDD has ADHD

8- King DDD has an obsession with chips and Bandana Dee has to hide them with Meta knight in a locked up safe

9- Francisca does that posh laugh

10- Shadow Kirby has social anxiety, their usually nervous but sometimes they can get really aggressive and start swearing at everyone rambling and throwing a tantrum 

11- Meta knight wear glasses when he’s home

12- Bandana Dee hates bananas

13- Magolor is a scammer

14- Adeleine works at the Dreamland local pizzeria 

15- Meta knight is passionned by astronomy and ancient artifacts and is always reading books about it

16- Bandana Dee, Sailor Dee and Parasol Dee are related but they don’t know it

17- Adeleine and Ribbon love playing explorers and treasure hunters

18- Dedede, Kirby and Bandana will wake up exactly at 3AM every Monday to come upon Meta knight eating cookies of ice cream from the fridge

19- Marx is a mixed species of Noddy and Scarfy (a lot of people headcanon this)

20- Meta knight usual sleeps like a bat

21- Taranza has depression and is recovering from it

22- Elline has a crush on Bandana Waddle Dee and constantly flirts with him

23- Shiver Star is Adeleine’s home planet but after Galactic Nova granted her wish and she found herself on PopStar she forgot about her past life. In the events of crystal shards, when they went to Shiver Star, she couldn’t help but get deja vu.

24- Flamberge plays the electric guitar (so does Galacta and S.Adeleine)

25- Prince Fluff is a great singer

26- Queen Ripple and DDD used to be in a relationship but things got complicated and they broke up (their still pan buddies tho)

Welcome to the askblog! This is where you can ask questions directly to Prisma and her friends. My main is @startistdoodles (where likes/follows come from). I have posts regarding all my headcanons tagged there under #kirby worldbuilding.

A few notes upfront:

Depending on the amount of asks I receive, I may not be able to respond to every one of them. Please understand.

On a similar note, please refrain from repeatedly asking the same/similar question multiple times.

Please keep asks PG-13 at most.

The characters are not omnipotent, so lore-related questions about the world or things they may not know will be moved over to @startistdoodles .

My AU follows both anime and game lore, so characters from either can be asked about. Generally anyone who is not dead is free to talk.

Side modes such as Knightmare and Dededetour are not canon to my AU. However, Soul Bosses and Magolor Epilogue are canon.

Prisma Knight

Prisma Knight (she/her) is a Star Warrior turned queen after she got into an accident involving Dark Matter that resulted in her losing her wings. Ashamed, she fled her troop and went into hiding on Planet Permafrost. There she was crowned queen after saving the inhabitants from a terrifying threat.

Many years later, she reunited with her old friend Meta Knight and was brought to Popstar, where she currently lives with her servants and new friends.

Kirby

Kirby (he/him or they/them) is a young Star Warrior that arrived on Planet Popstar a couple years ago. Ever since then, his incredible power has been put to the test as he stands up against terrifying threats. But he is never fazed and goes right back to naptime after every battle.

Kirby is still a child (about 3-5 in human years) and his speech isn't the best. He resorts to communicating with drawings or gestures alongside his babbling. His friends can often help suggest what he might be trying to say.

Meta Knight

Meta Knight (he/him) is a mostly retired Star Warrior who resides on Planet Popstar and serves as a watchful knight who aims to protect the planet alongside his crew, the Meta-Knights, aboard his Battleship Halberd. He serves as a mentor to Kirby, as well as a sort of parental figure (despite him disagreeing with the latter).

Many years ago, he and Prisma Knight along with Sir Falspar, Sir Nonsurat and Sir Dragato were in the same troop in the GSA (Galaxy Soldier Army). He presumed Prisma dead when she went missing, but was reunited with her many years later.

King Dedede

King Dedede (he/him) is the self-proclaimed king of Dreamland. Once a greedy and stubborn king, he has since chilled out quite a bit and now acts as a proud ruler (now with 10% less stubbornness!) that many respect. While he can still be loud and hotheaded at times, he cares deeply for his friends and especially his Waddle Dee family.

He and Kirby are friendly rivals, and he will defend his little buddy with everything he's got.

Bandana Waddle Dee

Bandana Waddle Dee (he/him - Bandee for short) is the king's right-hand Waddle Dee. A soldier in training, he assists in the defense of Castle Dedede and even hangs out in town looking for ways he can help others.

He is also one of Kirby's best friends, and the two are almost always seen hanging out together.

Dark Matter Blade

Dark Matter Blade (he/him or it/its - usually shortened to 'Dark Matter', 'Dark Blade' or simply 'Dark') is the former right-hand of Lord Zero, the incarnation of pure dark energy. While once highly respected among his kind, after failing his first big mission of killing a Star Warrior and then again failing to defeat Kirby in his invasion of Popstar many years later, he was forced to flee the Dark Matter tribe under threat of being killed by his master. So, he returned to Popstar where he was reunited with Gooey.

Nowadays he spends his time with his new friends, though is still distrusted by some. He wishes to lead a life of peace and comfort and as such shys away from conflict and confrontation. His relationship with Prisma is very tense — they don’t speak much.

Mochi

Mochi (he/him or they/them) is a new baby that recently landed on Popstar. There is something strange and somewhat dark about him...but he seems sweet enough so Prisma is raising him.

Sidia Knight

Sidia Knight (he/him) is Prisma Knight's old mentor and father figure. After going MIA during the great war that demolished the GSA, he was stranded on Galacta Star for nearly a century. Eventually, he reunites with Quiver Knight and they settle down and live happily together as a married couple.

@desultory-novice this probably got lost in the notification sauce, so here it is again: the 1980s Girl's Cartoon AU!

The Kirby games are fan continuation/fan reboot of Kirby's Starry Tales, itself a spinoff of The Waddles; Kirby made his first appearance in the second episode of the three-parter, Waddle in the Wasteland. The episodes involve Waddle Town suffering a dreadful famine. Bandana Dee leads a small party of Waddle Dees across the Wild Wastes in search of the Mystical Soil that can grow any crop, and withstand any weather; their journey brings them to the oasis-garden of Kirby, keeper of the Soil. After the three-parter's conclusion, Kirby made regular appearances in the show, and gained enough popularity to get his own show.

(Incidentally, Kirby is white here, as my cute little nod to the NA Kirby's Dream Land box art! 😊)

The Waddles made their first appearance in the hour-long TV special, The Meta-Knights in the Cursed Country. On the orders of the Queen of Gibbous (a character made specifically for the show), Sir Meta and his misfit crew seek out the Rainbow Blade in order to cast the Dark Knight down. Sailor Dee knows of the Blade (specifically that it's shattered into seven pieces) and suggests they go to her old home (the eponymous Cursed Country) and ask the Wise Elder Dee for the yellow piece. Sailor's people made sporadic appearances for the remainder of the show's run.

And finally, the show all these other shows spun off from: Adeleine the Magic Painter! The first episode (a two-parter, natch), Paint Me a Problem, has the eponymous Adeleine (wearing regular 80s girl street clothes) worrying about what to make for an upcoming art fair. While on her way to get art supplies, she finds an unusual Paintbrush that sends her to the magical world of Pop Star, besieged by the Wizard of Nightmares. With the aid of some unusual characters, she is able to kill the Wizard in an explosion of colors (you could get away with straight up killing baddies in 80s girl's cartoons as long as it's all sparkly and stuff)!

Every subsequent episode has Adeleine entering the portal picture in her room to take her to a random place on Pop Star, helping whoever needs help and defeating various villains of the week; the iconic look she sports from DL3 onward actually originates from the Super Art Studio Adeleine playset. Sir Meta and his misfit Knights made their first appearance in the 20th episode, Never Meta Knight I Didn't Like.

Side note: Magolor makes sporadic appearances in all of these cartoons as the owner of the traveling carnival, Merry Magoland. His design is more explicitly "wizard kitty cat" here, and has vibes I can only describe as "a mix of carnival barker and used car salesman," so of course he steals the show 😊.

(Of course I had to include Magolor; he is everywhere, and also it would be super funny if this is the exact same Magolor from the games. Think of all the stories he could tell!)

My only problem now is figuring out how everyone else can fit in these cartoons. Maybe you have some ideas?

Does Kirby's extended cast get underutilized?

This i something I heard a lot of Kirby fans bring up in recent years. That despite big cast of memorable characters, Kirby tends to shove them to the side in favor of introducing new ones and putting the older ones on the back burner never to be used again. But just how true this is?

Warning, rather big post ahead!

Let's take a look at almost all modern Kirby games (including spin-offs) and summarize how each of them treated the extended cast.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land - re-established King Dedede and Meta Knight as the part of the "main four" of the franchise, introduced Bandana Waddle Dee into the main cast after his role in Super Star Ultra. Introduced Magolor. Referenced Wham Bam Rock, Dragoon from Air Ride and Marx via stone transformations. Galacta Knight returns from Super Star Ultra as a surprise boss in the True Arena.

Kirby's Dream Collection: New Challenge Stages (yes, i'm going to count it, since Kumazaki confirmed that Magolor moved to Dream Land when he reformed and this is so far the only game to actually show it), - but, yeah, we see Magolor again in a fairly major role, the first time he appears as a good guy with a bit of a trickster streak to him, suggested that he stayed in Dream Land after he gifted Kirby and co a theme park.

Kirby Triple Deluxe - cameos of a lot of characters from sprite-based games via keychains (of note, Magolor and Yin Yarn got special keychains with exclusive 8-bit sprite artwork), animal trio from Dream Land 2 appear as stage hazards in Kirby Fighters, Shadow Kirby appears as the final boss of Kirby Fighters, Magolor cameos as a painting in the haunted mansion level of the Wild World, the dimensional mirror and Dark Meta Knight return after the long absence. Introduced people of the sky, Taranza and Queen Sectonia.

Dedede's Drum Dash Deluxe - Taranza is featured as one of Dedede's friends and supporters on the trophies and on the title screen. It was confirmed that the game itself is set in a theme park Magolor created for Dedede, Magolor himself appears in the final, most difficult, stage.

Kirby and the Rainbow Curse - Bandana Dee is reinforced as Kirby's true P2 character, Drawcia is referenced and got a special collectible in a figurine, being one of the few spin-off characters to appear more than once alongside Yin-Yarn. Animal buddies are referenced in Kirby transformation sequences. Pon and Con get a cameo in Elline's diary as comedy show hosts.

Kirby Planet Robobot - Oh boy. This one. Well, we of course have a LOT of returning bosses from the past games, such as clones of Dark Matter and Queen Sectonia (giving us a glimpse as her original body before she transformed, adding a major lore revelation past her introduction), people of the sky and floralia are mentioned on numerous occasions in the pause screen descriptions, quite a few characters got brand new artwork via stickers (such as daroach, magolor and taranza). And the last but certainly not least, we have Star Dream which is one of the clockwork stars like Galactic Nova. While not exact same as Nova, it's meant to be of the same species as Nova and the reveal banks on you knowing that, so it's one of the most direct continuity nods in the franchise.

Team Kirby Clash Deluxe - this game features, although AU versions, but still, of Susie and Taranza, and, unknowingly at the time, the same Magolor we already know and love in a different role entirely. Although it's technically different versions of the characters, I still count it, because it's still new game and new story that uses familiar faces.

Kirby Star Allies - i will die if i try to list everything this game has. but let's just say pretty much every mainline kirby game (and a lot of spin-offs) were referenced in some capacity, and 90% of major characters of all mainline kirby games are accounted for and PLAYABLE in this one.

Super Kirby Clash - Magolor is once again is the shopkeeper, AU Taranza and Susie have major roles once again, au version of NIGHTMARE of all characters is the main villain, technically making him the first antagonist since Dark Matter to appear in more than one game, King D-Mind returns by the virtue of this game being a sequel to the original Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, Galacta Knight re-appears as Aeon Hero, hinting at his origins.

Kirby Fighters 2 - Magolor and Gooey are playable characters, implied to be a part of Kirby's inner friend circle on the level of Bandana Dee, Meta Knight and King Dedede. The first spin-off to include playable characters outside of the primary main cast. Several newer characters such as Flamberge were referenced via unlockable costumes, as well as appearing (alongside her sisters) as stage hazards on the Jambastion stage.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land - this is perhaps the first Kirby game on this list where I can't say they concerned themselves with referencing the past much. But that's kind of the point, Shinya Kumazaki described Star Allies and Forgotten Land as "sister games" and in this sense, you can say that SA got all the unsubtle continuity and references, while FL is definite step towards new original direction. However, it's still got a lot of subtle connections AND UNEXPECTED canonization of Morpho Knight. A character that was literally introduced a GAME AGO. It's also been heavily alluded that the civilization formerly inhabiting the New World is heavily related to the (eventually) Halcandran ancients, giving us a genuine glimpse at their culture. Even then, this game is the exception that proves the point. Lack of references and fanservice, or major character comebacks is this game's specific weird factor, not the rule.

Kirby's Dream Buffet - this is similar to Star Allies where there's a LOT of references to past games. You can pretty much dress up Kirby as almost every character in the series, including the likes of the Mage Sisters and newly introduced Elfilin from Forgotten Land.

Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe - Merry Magoland introduces masks which not only make it so all of the dream friends and helpers from Star Allies cameo in this game, as well as new characters from the Forgotten Land, they also make it so this isn't exclusive to purely playable characters. Giving us masks of Hyness, Queen Sectonia and Leongar. Magolor Epilogue is one huge mode focused on Magolor specifically, the first time such luxury been given to someone outside of the primary main cast. Said mode also references and alludes to a lot of games (including Dream Collection), as well as tying it towards Kirby Clash games in another unexpected continuity moment.

As you can see, not a lot of these roles are major, but it's not the main point I'm trying to come across. HAL remembers about these characters and definitely knows that fans love them and want more of them. It's simply the matter of building up the series from ground up after what essentially amounted to big hiatus in the 00s. Returning characters in another mainline game just right after they were introduced would be a tacky move that would be way too safe and complacent. Building up the cast was the right move and they are slowly but surely started embracing it more and more over time. Forgotten Land is distinctly only game in this list that mostly avoided direct returns and callbacks and it still got Morpho Knight.
