i'm gonna break their arms. and i'm gonna break their legs. - Kid, from piecedpirates
A sigh escaped Ace's lips as he heard the pirate grumble and complain about the Baroque Works and it's organization. "I know, but at the same time, we infiltrate now, we'll never get the information that we're looking for" Ace hissed out, ducking behind a bunch of crates.
As he peeked from behind the crates, he heard a laugh that made his blood boil.
"screw the plan," he mumbled to himself, and before the Baroque Works people knew it, Ace was shooting fireballs from his finger pistols, a frown on his face.

Miss Supranational 2022 Czech Republic National Costume
The costume bears colors that are official symbols of Czech statehood. These colors are white, red and blue. The white and red colors have their tradition in the Czech emblem of the white lion on a red field. White symbolizes the purity and light, without which no other colors could be seen. Red, the color of life, symbolizes power. Throughout history, the Czech Crown has been used by kings, nobles and religious authorities. Blue, the color of loyalty, was added at the beginning of our allies in the fighting in World War I.  The fairytale silhouette takes us to the period of pious symmetrical baroque and decorative rococo, which was a very important epoch of cultural prosperity for the Czech Kingdom. The short wide crinoline became an integral part of the women's wardrobe while being present at the court. Noble ladies had an abundance of luxury commodities such as exotic ostrich feathers and decorative elements in the form of aristocratic pearls and shining stones. This was then completed by a corset and a high complicated hairstyle, which is now decorated with a crown inspired by the coronation jewels of Czech kings. Additionally, the aristocratic lilies have long symbolized l In the very center of the corset, Czech beads called "fireballs" are sewn

Gimme a very important 3, and maybe a 31 and a 38 if you've got the words to spare, buckaroo
*THE VENDING MACHINE WHIRRS AND GRINDS, DROPPING THE DESIRED SODA*
3. Favorite childhood game?
Easily Donkey Kong Country. It's not an ironic joke or anything when I say I love to play games listening to the DKC or adjacent OSTs, or my love for funny monkey game, it really is my treasured childhood favorite. I think it was a combination of it being The Funny Monkey Game, thus, a fun and vibrant game full of personality, coupled with some really challenging platforming near the end, and David Wise going off every single one of his shits and composing a soundtrack for it that simultaneously is vigorous and bouncy, and yet, that could very well play during a one man expedition of the ruins of a lost civilization.
Another part is that DKC was the one game all of my siblings also enjoyed. I played the most games out of my siblings, in terms of quantity and in terms of dedication to bettering myself at them, but DKC was the one game that all of us liked, so we'd sit around the old, small TV and pass around the controller each life. That certainly was very fun and memorable. I remember keeping my eyes glued on game magazines to see when DKC2 would release, and after that, DKC3.
31. Game with the best theme song?
I think a number of answers apply here, for a number of reasons, mainly the question "What constitutes a Theme Song of any given title?"
About title/main menu music: Believe it or not, I think the first time a main title song truly touched me was Ocarina of Time. I'm not a Zelda fan. The only Zelda game I have played is Ocarina of Time, and by sheer technicality, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, but only because my brothers tagged me in to beat the final boss since "you're good at fights, Drimo". But, the sheer solemnity and simmering emotion of Ocarina of Time's title theme has stuck with me for a long time. Eventually, it would be Armored Core: For Answer's "Someone Is Always Moving On The Surface" that would establish itself as the apex of title music.
If it's about the track often associated with it: SIMON'S THEME IN SUPER CASTLEVANIA IV, BABY, without a shadow of a doubt, the fact that it plays as you open up whooping undead ass with wild gusto is one thing, but, there's another place where Simon's Theme comes up: Phase 2 of the Dracula final boss fight. At that point, Dracula panics, and is so afraid of Simon that he can only spam the same predictable lightning spell over and over after a variety of tricky, clever fireball spams. Simon's Theme starts playing during this phase, overriding Dracula's because Simon Belmont is the boss fight now. That was the first time a video game made me feel so, so powerful: Not due to giving me huge numbers or big flashy attacks, but simply by virtue of using the conventions of the medium to tell me "You. You are the threat in this room now."
And if it's about sheer memorability: I would say a tie between the incredibly iconic Kingdom Heart's Simple And Clean and GunZ: The Duel's Theme Rock. Simple And Clean, with the accompanying cutscene, encompass I think everything right with being a teenager into anime, whereas GunZ' Theme Rock hits the vibe of "solemn gunslinger loading bullets into the cartridges of his submachineguns, silently, in the corner of an abandoned building, with a glass of whiskey, moments before going out and getting into another meaningful gunfight".
38. Have you tried a game, hated it, then tried again, and loved it?
I mentioned Baroque on this one before, which is an example of something formative to me, incredibly dear, a building block in the Dreamer you know and love nowadays. Now, I'll give a more contemporary answer: Final Fantasy 14.
I started playing FF14 March of 2021, is what I would usually say, but that's when I made Alkelda. I actually did try FF14 before that, many years ago, when Heavensward was the newest thing, and I didn't try it alone, I tried it with Iron, actually. Long story short, we hated the two hours we put into it, and then we played Team Fortress 2 instead that night.
Then, last year, I really needed something to sink my teeth into around that time, and after much deliberation, I said, yeah, alright, let's give this another try, I've heard it's become better. I didn't try the free trial, however, I committed to the bit from the get-go and bought the full pack, which at the time was up to Shadowbringers. I was going to give this a fair try, and I did!
I didn't tell anyone initially because I didn't want to give false hope to anyone that I'd play it, mainly because I was hating ARR really badly. But when I got to Heavensward, the gameplay still sucked balls, but the story picked up hard, and I was enjoying myself. Stormblood, the gameplay was still very, well, unengaging, but I was loving the narrative end of it, so I was treating the whole thing like a Yoko Taro game: Fucking horrendous gameplay, but good music and story, which I normally don't do, but FF14 was popping that hard for me, narratively. Then Shadowbringers hit and now I FINALLY was actually enjoying the gameplay AS WELL as the story.
SO IT TOOK QUITE A BIT OF PATIENCE BUT WE GOT THERE.

The Sound of the Temple Bell.•●
The ancient Greek philosopher Protagoras of Abdera claimed "Of all things the measure is Man..." And, as well, Protagoras claimed "the soul is in the senses."
"At a point in the history of intellectual endeavor when the strides of modern physics have propelled the mind to the far reaches of the universe, to the finest grit of matter's parts, to the very dawn of all existence, that suddenly we encounter doors that are blocked by our very reason—beyond which there seems to be no path to take and no waiting footfalls to tread into a future understanding of reality. But something must lie ahead. If we are to advance, if we are to understand what is faulty in the picture of reality that physics has painted, we must be ready to set aside one or more of these notions about reality. We must adjust our understanding and prove that the change we have made yields a better picture of reality. We must set aside the Escher picture of reality that spins the mind with complementarity word soups that do not hold internal consistency. We must give up local hidden variables and faster-than-light Bach chants and replace them with a new image, one seen in a Gödel vision: a conception of reality that is consistent, that is more compelling, that works, and that leads, as you will discover, to a surprising conception of reality. The old image of reality has faded away.
...
But it is the truth we seek. Timidity is sometimes not the way to resolve such difficulties. The Ptolemaic system had to be changed by 𝘋𝘦 𝘙𝘦𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘴, phlogiston by recasting fire itself as the turbulent chaotic movements of matter. If we give up Einstein separability, we will be left with an incredibly complex situation. Because all particles came out of the original fireball that created the universe, all particles have been in contact. If we try to resolve our dilemma over Bell's theorem by saying the photons send faster-than-light messages back and forth, we are left with a picture of each piece of matter sending messages back and forth between every other piece of matter—messages that somehow have no associated mass or energy and no particles as carriers but that still affect the recipient particle. And because of the complexity of the measurement interaction (because of the fact that it is never easy to say which interaction is a measurement and which is just a part of a series of interactions, as we saw in the case of Wigner's double Stern-Gerlach experiment), the particles themselves must take on a complexity in the way they sort out all these messages that would make each about as complex as an observer. It is not clear that abandoning Einstein's conception of locality would lead us to a workable new mechanics that would be explained in terms of these hidden variables. It seems that something even more drastic may be required to solve the problem. Perhaps if we examine closely the original question that instigated the measurement problem, perhaps then we will be able to find the solution to this problem.
BACK TO THE FUTURE?
We got into the measurement problem in the first place because quantum mechanics seemed to be saying that observers really affect the things that are observed—because quantum mechanics tells us that physical properties have, in general, no objective reality independent of observation. As Pascual Jordan, one of the major early contributors to quantum theory, put it 'Observations not only disturb what has to be measured, they produce it .... We compel [ the electron ] to assume a definite position .... We ourselves produce the results of measurement.' Maybe the way out is to accept the fact that hidden variables, in any usual sense of the term, are not going to solve the problem. Maybe we need simply to accept the fact that the observer ( the consciousness, for observer is just a euphemism for this concept ) actually exists as a participatory constituent of physical reality. Maybe the way out of Bell's theorem problem and the measurement problem in quantum mechanics requires that we take into account the fact that conscious observers exist as unique entities, as a part of the total reality of the world. What we have to do now is find a way to understand what consciousness itself is.
...
Bell's theorem was an effort to escape this obvious conclusion about quantum mechanics, and that effort failed. It failed because it was an attempt to design a universe that would leave out consciousness. The way out of our difficulty, the path we must take now, is to try to understand what was previously rejected. We must recognize that objective reality is a flawed concept, that state vector collapse does arise from some interaction with the observer, and that indeed consciousness is a negotiable instrument of reality. Our entire conception of reality must now be rethought. We stand at the threshold of a revolution in thinking that transcends anything that has happened in a thousand years. Now the observer, consciousness, something self-like or mind-like, becomes a provable part of a richer reality than physics or any science has ever dared to envision.
And let us recognize at the outset that this is not some obscure effect, some baroque brain-born notion that pops from the corner of the physicists' laboratory when some odd apparatus is wheeled out to demonstrate nonlocal magic. Einstein, Podolsky, and Rosen, in writing their pivotal paper, spoke principally about position and momentum; Freedman, Clauser, and Aspect and his colleagues ran their tests on the polarization of light; Lamehi-Rachti and Mittig measured the spin of protons, the nuclei of hydrogen atoms. All of these investigators spoke about rather simple and idealized configurations of matter—simple interactions of elementary particles. But nothing except the level of complexity changes if we go to the larger collection of matter in the real world. We cannot follow such complexity in order to show just where and how Bell's theorem gets violated in the interactions among people, for example, but this same nonlocality, this transcendence of space, must be manifest even there. That is the way physics is. We could never measure the leaves of all the trees blowing in the wind to show that Newton's laws apply there. We know that Newton's laws govern the leaves because we have carefully measured the effects and tested the laws where they are best demonstrated. And this is how we know that the conscious observer must touch everything: We have seen it where it is best seen.
This revised view of reality in which we see the observer and the consciousness as central to reality itself is as significant as if we had found the key to the soul. Perhaps that is what 𝘩𝘢𝘴 been found here. Our quest for the fabric of reality has brought us from religion to science. But that science, when asked to show us reality, has caused us to look into a mirror to see what we are. It is the last place that science would have chosen to search, yet now we must look there into that image we see within ourselves. Now we must find out what the observer is and find out what threads consciousness weaves in creating the quantum mind."
"This is, in part, what the new technology of quantum computers is about. There, however, quantum 'qubit' circuits are designed to suppress unwanted states by making them low-probability states, whereas in the case of the quantum mind, desired states that are of low-probability occur because they are recognizable to the conscious brain."

Akudama Drive – 11 – Their Little Dream
Tumblr media
Suddenly, we’re back where we began: Ordinary Person gets off work on time and spots a takoyaki stand. Instead of being accused of not paying, she pays without interacting with Courier and the two go their separate ways. Of course, if this is how things had gone down in the first episode, there wouldn’t be a story.
This is clearly not reality. What is reality is Pupil waking up in a hospital bed to find that not only have nearly 6,000 ordinary people been marked as Akudama, but nearly a third of them have been executed, and his senpai seems perfectly fine with it, as is their Boss, who is praised by Kanto. Order in Kansai has been restored—even if the odd orphan has to be tossed off their parent’s corpse into the cold.
Tumblr media
Swindler at first revels in the comfort of her ordinary apartment, and could presumably continue living there as if all of the crazy events in which she participated was all just a very weird dream. But this is the dream, just as a young Courier discovering his mentor, the previous (and female) Courier murdered is a dream.
Bunny and Shark—in crisp HD for the first time—deliver their latest lesson with Swindler and Courier as an audience: they explain the “Butterfly Dream” in which one asks themselves if they’re dreaming of a butterfly or the butterfly’s dream. Apparently, in Kanto, it doesn’t matter: you can be both or neither.
Tumblr media
The animal stick puppet characters assert this is where Swindler and Courier “truly belong”: a place where they can dream of whatever and whenever they want and live in their happiest moments forever! Swindler even has a little Shoujo Manga moment with Courier…before both he and the takoyaki stand beging to digitally degrade and evaporate, leaving only the interior of the Shinkansen.
Swindler and Courier escape this world of coddling and restraining illusion thanks to Hacker’s Haro bot, with which the real Hacker is able to interface and which serves as a kind of dream totem for Swindler and Courier; their means of realizing they’re in a dream. The Bunny & Shark program is a form of brainwashing meant to separate body from mind (and free will) when entering Kanto. It is the effect of the Decontamination Zone.
Tumblr media
Why would Kanto insist anyone who enters have their mind separated from their body? That becomes clear when Hacker leads them outside of the train to see something even stranger than their dreams: an endless deep blue sky full of eternally floating wreckage of old Tokyo.
As for Kanto, its true form is that of a complex quantum computer with a morphing geometric black structure resembling an Angel from Eva. Everyone in Kanto converted their consciousness to data and stored it in this structure (again, like Eva’s Human Instrumentality Project). Hacker turns back and cheekily breaks the fourth wall, commenting on how crazy a twist this is!
Swindler’s first priority is the kids, whom Hacker points out are currently being restrained by the Kanto structure. It’s presently breaking down, and the siblings were always meant to be Kanto’s new and everlasting vessels. All of Kanto’s data is being transferred to them.
Tumblr media
Needless to say, Swindler isn’t cool with the kids being used once more as mere tools. She’s long since completely devoted her mind and body ensuring brother and sister’s one “little dream”—to be alive, safe, and together—is fulfilled. Whatever else they are and whatever Kanto perceives their use to be, she insists they’re ordinary kids who deserve and ordinary life.
Unfortunately, her attempts to physically attack Kanto are repelled by its gravitational wave defense system, which means it’s up to Hacker to go into Kanto and play the toughest—and most fun—game of his life. That’s just fine to him, as the whole reason he’s helping Swindler and Courier comes down to profound boredom. If he can die doing what he loves, he’s okay with that.
This is definitely Akudama Drive at its most baroque and psychedelic, and even though The Day I Became a God had a quantum supercomputer and trippy virtual hacker fight first this season, Akudama is able to put a different spin on both. Hacker’s battlefield resembles FFXIII’s final dungeon, Orphan’s Cradle, while the floating wreckage reminded me of FFXIII-2’s final dungeon, Labyrinth of Chaos.
Tumblr media
Hacker ends up succeeding in freeing the siblings, but only by sacrificing his digital self, which is all that’s left of him. He lies about being “just fine” to Swindler and offers her a final token of gratitude for returning his Haro drone intact: coordinates to “a mystical place nobody’s heard about, let alone been to,” which he deems a “perfect place” for them.
Tumblr media
He then urges everyone to hurry aboard the Shinkansen, which he programs to return to Kansai, and from there they can presumably head to those coordinates. As Sister surprises Brother with her new street smarts (and potty mouth—”You were shit at protecting me!”), Swindler thanks Courier for all his help. Of course, for Courier, finishing the job wasn’t a choice, but a necessity.
That’s when we return to Kansai where the approaching Shinkansen is placed in crosshairs. Three choppers open fire on it, knocking it off the tracks in a huge fireball as Pupil and New Pupil look on. Here’s hoping Swindler and the kids alighted before the train blew up!
Assuming they did, there are likely to be more hardships—and a likely final showdown with the Executioners—before they can reach their promised haven. Whatever happens in the finale, this episode was a master class in twisty, surreal, mind-bending, truth-dropping, beautifully batshit fun.

RETURN TO INHUMAN SORCERER-LAND concludes!
Plot Stuff You Missed:
Protagonist is kicked out of the royal guards for being a “distraction” (read: an attractive female). It’s very obvious that someone much higher up orchestrated this.
Protagonist purchases endgame supplies (a sword and a way to equip her Sparkly Rock). She also senses ... an Inhuman Sorcerer! Oh noes!
Protagonist recaps everything to the Royal Priest and Would-Be Adopted Brother. They’re like, “Okay, this is obviously suspicious.”
Would-Be Adopted Brother presses the new guard recruits into service for the not!Christmas Party!
But when Protagonist musters the new recruits ... not!Gene locks them in the restroom! Which was actually his Plan B. His original plan was to poison everyone, but Son of a Traitor told everyone not to eat breakfast today. Still ... oh noes!
Protagonist and Son of a Traitor help the guard recruits escape the restroom through a secret passageway that they used earlier in the book. During their long, detour-filled path back to the not!Christmas Party, they discover a bunch of Suspicious Guards preparing an ambush and looting the homes of nobles allied with OG Protagonist. Again ... oh noes!
Protagonist and the guard recruits make it to the not!Christmas party ... but it’s crashed by the Inhuman Sorcerer that Protagonist sensed earlier! And he starts spouting out BS about the unification of the Human and Inhuman Sorcerer kingdoms! You know what that means....
IT’S TIME FOR A BOSS BATTLE!!!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, the boss casts Hold Person on everyone at the not!Christmas party, then casts Fireball on some minor characters from the original series. (We hardly knew ye.)
Luckily, priests and anyone equipped with a Sparkly Rock have immunity to magic! Royal Priest is killed in his attempt to defeat the boss, and Protagonist is too far away to do much of anything....
AND THEN SOMEONE KILLS THE BOSS!
It was not!Gene. He killed the boss.
So this whole thing was a ploy by Young Lord’s Dad and Old King’s Traitorous Mistress (a character from the original series who was a total bitch and I fucking hated her) to put one of the Old King’s bastards on the throne!
And -- you guessed it -- that bastard is not!Gene.
So ... IT’S TIME FOR ANOTHER BOSS BATTLE!!!!!!!!
After lots of fencing, Protagonist defeats not!Gene. And the coup is foiled. Yay.
And in the end: Protagonist is reinstated as a guard recruit. She and all the other surviving recruits get medals of honor. Son of a Traitor has his family’s past crimes against the crown officially forgiven. Protagonist abuses a loophole in the New Laws to get adopted by OG Protagonist, but without inheritance.
Other Stuff You Missed:
Protagonist actually acknowledges that she’s half-human!
Not!Gene was the one who poisoned Young Lord!
I love how chamber orchestras in this series are basically an unholy combination of mariachi bands and a corps of baroque-era proto-bassoons.
I kinda forgot to mention this, but not!Gene is Old King’s Traitorous Mistress’s son.
Would-Be Adopted Brother has a girlfriend / bodyguard who trained with warrior-nuns! (In case you forgot, warrior-nuns in this series are fucking badass and have a bad habit of stabbing their enemies in the head with hairpins.) She becomes a guard recruit at the end of the book.
FINAL VERDICT: I enjoyed the fuck out of this.

FIC REC WEEK 10 – FOUND FAMILY
If it ain't baroque, don't fix it by idioticfangirl
Pairing: Steve/Tony, Pietro/Peter, Clint/Natasha, Wanda/Sam Rating: G Words: 1,740 Tags: Disneyland, Team Bonding, Crack
Summary: Much to her mother's chagrin, the Avengers take Cassie out for a 'family' day at Disneyland
Reasons why I love it: They're all such idiots, ugh, I love them. Scott the concerned parent is adorable as hell, and the team scattering in a million different directions feels like exactly what would happen if someone made the mistake of letting them into Disneyland. This fic is adorable, and we get way too little Scott in this fandom as is, so I highly encourage you to give this one a read!
Laser Tag, You're It! by Corsets_and_Cardigans
Pairing: Steve/Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 1,223 Tags: Team Bonding, Laser Tag, Established Relationship
Summary: Bucky found that the future held a lot of new things. Scary, wild, fun, things. Things they never thought of back in the day. Things they did think of that hadn’t come to pass, or were long since outdated. But one of the best things, he’d found, was laser tag.
Reasons why I love it: Steve, Bucky, horny jail for both of you! Though to be fair, who could resist Tony Stark wearing black tac gear? I love all the team hijinks, and the laser tag scene is super well written! This fic is fantastic, and I hope you check it out for yourself!
Cake Toppers And Fireball Piñata by Naivelittleprincess
Pairing: Steve/Bucky/Tony Rating: T Words: 1,709 Tags: Birthday, Ensemble Cast, Fluff and Crack
Summary: For a bunch of master assassins, spies, and superhumans, the Avengers are lousy at secret keeping. Forget world domination or holding lives hostage, their enemies should just get Earth's mightiest heroes to plan a birthday party and be done with it. Tony's surprise(?) birthday bash.
Reasons why I love it: Awww, look at the Avengers trying to keep secrets. I'm sure this won't end in absolute disaster. Steve and Bucky are ADORABLE in this, and I really love how nonchalant Tony is about this entire ordeal. Plus, the party at the end sounds like so much fun, I want to be there. This fic is great, and I hope you give it a shot!
Clint Barton is an Excellent Final Girl by Bella_Dahlia
Pairing: Steve/Tony, Bucky/Clint Rating: T Words: 3,711 Tags: Avengers Movie Night, Tooth-Rotting Fluff, Pining Tony
Summary: It's movie night, and our favorite only slightly dysfunctional super hero fam watches Nightmare on Elm Street. That's it, that's the fic.
Reasons why I love it: I agree 100% with Peter that Nightmare on Elm's Street is required viewing. This fic is so much fun, I love all of the team shenanigans, and of course, Peter's take on Stony's hopeless flirting is hilarious. I love this one, and I bet you will too!
Christmas Steve by Just_Bill
Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: G Words: 1,514 Tags: Domestic Avengers, Christmas Fluff, Christmas Tree
Summary: When a friendly Christmas brawl gets out of hand Natasha knows the perfect stand-in tree.
Reasons why I love it: One does not simply challenge Steve, I suppose. This fic is so funny, what with the whole team being utterly resigned to what's going to happen and acting accordingly. I really love the Stony in this too, they're so cute together. This fic is lovely, and I hope you go and check it out for yourself!
