I’ve been doing more arc planning lately and adding more side characters to the cast, so I thought I’d do a doodle sheet to introduce some of them and give you all a small taste of what’s ahead! 

Smooth Tune AKA Smoothie - Licorice Lace’s girlfriend  A harpist from Licorice’s orchestra, she is equal parts beefcake and angel. She is graceful and gorgeous, with a more cheesy and girlish side too. Many would say she is way out of Lic’s league but she still chose him and would do so a thousand times over.

Aphrodisian Foam - Fashion Model In a sort of “ugly ducking” tale, she started out as an insecure chick with unusual hybrid traits (wingless unicorn hippogriffs are hard to come by) but now she is a show-stopping model who shares her beauty with the whole world.

Tranquila - Trailblazer’s “enemy” An “influencer” by her world’s standards, she has a passion for fitness and loves sharing it with the world. She publishes her favorite workouts and daily musings in various magazines and video tutorials, focusing on strength and balance in one’s lifestyle. She does it all with a calm, chilled-out attitude, contrasting the girl known as her enemy.

Roman Candle - Trailblazer’s “best friend” A wrestling champion in high school, he is a skilled athlete who knows how to stand out. But he was also your typical douchey teenage boy, generally a dick to those he didn’t call friend and not particularly favored among the girls because of that. Hopefully he won’t stay that way forever.

Almond Meringue AKA Uncle Al - Trailblazer’s publicist  A humble old stallion from a village outside of Trottingham, he is Trailblazer’s publicist on paper but in reality he’s so much more. He keeps her schedule intact, makes sure she remembers to eat and rest, and helps her avoid embarrassing herself in public. She really keeps him on his hooftips, but they’ve grown to care about each other in a somewhat familial way which makes his job worth it.

Burr - Mudbriar’s son Somewhat like the uncle he resembles, he broke the mold set by his parents, pursuing a more extroverted career path than Mudbriar and choosing a different genre of music than his other father Feather Bangs. An idol of his little cousin Meteor Shower, he has lofty goals for his career but is enjoying the ride on the way there.

Sweetpea Soup - Manic Pixie Dream Girl Her description is pretty self explanatory: she’s quirky and free-spirited with a rebellious streak, and a strong and contagious appreciation for all life has to offer. Anyone she meets would consider themselves lucky to have known her and be left wanting for more time with her.

Painted Lady - Tea Cake’s aide Passionate about foalcare, her greatest reward is getting to nurture foals as they grow and watching their vibrant personalities bloom. But she can also be a little overbearing and intrude on what is meant to be independent play if she thinks extra care is needed (which it sometimes isn’t). The foal she works with now needs that extra care to an extent, but it’s still annoying.

Infernal Startrail - Blackfire Phoenix’s coworker In some ways she is every corporation’s dream employee with the way she thinks outside the box and has a solution to most problems she encounters. She is decisive, intelligent, and professional, but isn’t above the occasional workplace gossip to an extent. But then again, most people aren’t.

Fireball Rosso - Bullseye’s boyfriend  A talented makeup artist for any and all genders, he’s very serious about his craft. Some consider him arrogant and snooty and maybe he is just a little bit, but he’s very secure in himself and he wants others to be confident in their expression too.

Strawberry Bon Bon - Meteor Shower’s girlfriend A hopeless romantic at heart, she puts her all into her relationships with others, sometimes to her own detriment. Getting her heart broken a few times by guys who didn’t put in equal effort has left her with some trust issues, leading to insecurities that carry over into the next relationship.

Pearl Closure - Sour Peach’s girlfriend  A fashion designer who specializes in “magical girl transformations,” i.e. those extra special outfits that have two designs in one! She can make literal rags unfold into a stunning ballgown, and at the height of her career she’s very popular among celebrities who want unique costume changes. She took her time to nurture her talent before sharing it with the world so it would really be worth the wait.

Fruit Salad - School of Friendship alum She’s a party animal with a little bit of bimbo mixed in, in the sense of not always reading the room. She’s well intentioned, just not super responsible or receptive to when someone wants to be left alone.

Pearl - Miner She is the type of diamond dog that when she has her mind set on something, she will not stop until she accomplishes it. This includes things like digging really deep to get a certain gem she senses, even when she hits rock. She’s eager to meet new creatures and when she is your friend she’s very affectionate.

Juneberry - Mailmare A flirt who always has things to share like fun facts, she likes talking to others and learns a lot from all the ponies and creatures she delivers mail to. Not everyone makes a habit of talking to the pony who delivers their mail outside of small talk, but when they do it makes her day.

Veneer Smokescreen AKA Smoky - Movie theater employee With a monotone attitude, she’s the kind of pony where you just have to believe her when she says she feels a certain way because she’s not going to show you any other way. As a foal she was punished for being too childish despite being a child at the time so now she has issues expressing herself.

Hyacinth Moss - Marmalade Meringue’s wife Insecure and ashamed of her siren heritage, she is easily embarrassed by anything that even remotely makes her look bad (like Marmalade expressing a bad take in public or her kids lightly bickering). She is generally touchy and reactive and will react to any slights very passive-aggressively.

Starfruit Bouquet - Hyacinth and Marmalade’s oldest son A soccer player practically since he could walk, he has a love for the game and a love for life no matter what successes or failures come his way. He isn’t in the game to win, but loves it for the camaraderie and teamwork it comes with. Any mistakes he takes in stride as long as he has his friends by his side.

Sour Grapes - Hyacinth and Marmalade’s youngest son A spelling bee kid who will probably graduate to the debate team and then some prestigious college, he is ambitious and competitive. The game is cutthroat and so is he, albeit in a rule-abiding way. You would think he and his brother would be at odds with how different their values are, and they certainly do disagree, but not as much as their parents do. Making fun of them is one thing they can bond over.

Please let me know what you think and feel free to theorize about their roles! Which of these characters are most excited to see in the story? I can’t wait to introduce them proper, which for some should be pretty soon!

Ancano: He’s camp about it and you can’t convince me otherwise. Clutches his pearls and shrieks before regaining his composure. If you breathe a word of this to anyone, there’s a fireball with your name written on it.

Ondolemar: was too focused on his work to notice your hiding spot. Jumps a mile but sighs and sits there with his head in his hands for a moment before he’s ready to face you.

Vingalmo: knew you were in the cupboard. Waits to watch you make a fool of yourself for his own entertainment.

Serana: knew you were in the cupboard. Jumped anyway and scowled at you. You’re cruel. How does it feel to be a horrible person?

Cicero: goes one of two ways. Either he screams and then laughs and dances around to get the uncomfy out of his system, or you end up with a knife against your throat. Or worse.

Lydia: she turns around with lightning reflexes and throws a haymaker directly into your face before apologising profusely (provided that she hasn’t knocked you out). She tells you off for it whilst pressing a beefsteak against your face, and you can only acknowledge that you totally deserved that.

Vex: A knife whizzes past your ear and lodges into the wood. “Next one goes in your eye.”

Elenwen: walks up to you and throws her drink over you. “Pour me another by the time I get back.” She turns on her heel and storms out to walk it off.

J’zargo: *GROWL HISS*… *decides that he can’t be bothered*

Festus Krex: he knows you’re in there. “Stop it.” If you jump out anyway, he throws whatever he’s holding at you. Probably a mortar and pestle.

Arnbjorn: knows you’re in a cupboard. Doesn’t know which one. Threatens the wrong cupboard door.

Vilkas: sees you hiding and tells you to wait for Farkas.

Farkas: screams at the top of his lungs. Falls over his own feet.

It was a mistake, you didn’t mean to take a bite of the fruit. It just looked so delicious with the cooing of the snake that had graciously pulled the fruit with its tail and handed it to you.

The tears came in floods, it was never ending. Hot sand engraved itself onto your skin and beside you was the half eaten fruit, a heavy sensation was pressed on your chest and it couldn’t be the weight of the white burning ball in the blue sky that decided to burn your skin. You didn’t have a origin nor a name since it was forsaken the moment you decided to bite into the fruit nor the feeling of the weight didn’t a name but it had origin; you.

The you before was special, crafted to match your partner that remained in paradise; nothing more. Special before you were polluted by the disgusting sin that you caused. It was your fault, wasn’t it? You should’ve stayed near your partner and you wouldn’t have been drowning in the sin. It was a breeze of wind touching your skin, your hands scraping the pearl walls of the garden and your throat ached from incoherent begging for an entrance back into the garden; why couldn’t it realize it was a mistake? It was an accident.

It seemed to be an Angel flew down from the heavens, beautiful soft feathers shielded your burning skin.

“Born from soil of the garden and dust of the cosmos. Do not weep anymore, favored one.” His cold hand wiped away the tears. “I’m here to guide you to a new paradise.”

“A new paradise?” you said. “I don’t deserve the paradise that you will bring me too.”

The angel’s eyes held warmth that only existed from the fireball in the sky. His lips grew and tugged a faint smile as he tilted his head.

“The paradise that I will bring you too is where you will not weep these tears nor feel the despair on you,” he said, softly. “You are too feeble alone, favored one.”

The boiling sand underneath your feet dissipated and was replaced with strange things that covered the bottom, shoes. These so-called shoes were uncomfortable and shielded you from the aching burning of the sand. He offered his hand for you to grab, the angel’s right. You were feeble alone, outcasted by the very thing that created you. You took his hand.

I remember reading about fox spirits. it says that they had a fox fire, it's like a fireball inside them and they can die if someone takes it away. But It is said that in the farmer's story (a tale?), the fox manages to get it back after years but in another, the fox dies (although I think the gives it to him voluntarily and that is why she dies). Sorry for my bad english. I don't know why some texts also mention that it is a pearl.

Yeah, that is what the fox's inner core looks like in some stories. There is this Ming dynasty story from 祝子志怪录, where the fox's core appears as a lampfire-like thing she holds in her mouth, and the person she's charming tried to grab it and swallow it, but accidentally dropped it into the water, killing her in the process.

A similar story exists in the Qing dynasty 耳食录, where the fox's inner core looks like a pearl, and she sucks away people's Qi by...well, asking them nicely to put the pearl inside their mouth, until someone caught onto her trick and swallowed it, leading to her death.

All these are kinda similar to a regular Daoist's "golden core", a little ball of coalesced Qi inside one's body, with the only difference being that foxes could spit them out, while humans usually couldn't.

Summary: A first date and cowboy hats.

Part I

The next time she came into the bar, she was a little more awkward than usual. He could tell she was embarrassed about getting shitfaced and telling him all of her private business. She told him she wasn’t sure he was being sincere when he said he wanted to take her out, which made his heart crack a little. How could she not see what a catch she was and that HE would be the lucky one, should she ever give him a chance?

It took some hot tea with a generous swig of Fireball on the house, and some coaxing from Sy to get her to finally believe him. But the smile that made its way onto her lips was reward enough for him. They agreed on Saturday night, when he wasn’t scheduled to work at the Drink & Jive.

She wore a pair of jeans that hugged her in all the right places and a really soft-looking blouse when she stepped out of her front door. He didn’t want to tell her where they were going and told her to pick a casual outfit she would feel comfortable in. This time, the strawberry red on her lips looked just right. He had to clear his throat before speaking. “You look breathtaking honey.” And he wasn’t the only one who had trouble keeping himself from unraveling. Her voice came out breathy. “Thank you, Sy. You don’t look so bad yourself.” Which wasn’t a lie. He wore his best pair of jeans and a crisp, clean button-up with a silver triangle bolo tie. An outfit he had picked especially for her.

He opened the passenger door of his truck for her. His truck was black and looked exactly like she’d imagined his car would look like, except a lot cleaner. It looked almost like he had cleaned it for her, which made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Jogging around the front of the car Sy got into the driver’s seat and turned his body toward her, smirking, reaching for something on the back seat. Without a warning, he plopped something on top of her head and into her lap. A little startled giggle left her when she took the hat off her head and studied his offerings.

“Do you have that little confidence in the date you have planned that you have to bribe me?” The sparkle in her eyes made it clear that she was only joking but deep down he did feel a little like he needed to proof himself as a worthy partner.

“No, I know you will like it but I think you deserve to be spoiled.”

“I… Thank you, Sy.” The same breathy voice but a smile so bright it warmed up the whole inside of his truck.

Arriving at the destination a chuckle escaped her. “Really? Another bar, that’s where you want to go when you’re off work?”

Once they stepped inside the whole cowboy hat of it all suddenly made sense. She was standing there, her jaw nearly hitting the floor. Country music? That was one thing she did not expect Sy to be into. A room full of cowboy hats, cowboy boots, boot cut jeans and polished belt buckles. People whirling around to Hank Williams and drinking beer and whiskey.

Looking up at Sy, who now stood next to her wearing his own cowboy hat and his signature grin she couldn’t stop herself from laughing. A joyful, pearling sound that made him want to swear an oath to always find ways to keep her laughing and happy.

His warm hand on her lower back he gently steered her into the direction of the bar. “What would you like to drink honey?” The term of endearment made her cheeks feel hot and her insides all gooey. “You know I like something sweet and strong. I need some liquid courage before we get on the dance floor because I have two left feet.”

Waving down the bartender Sy ordered their drinks, standing so close to her, she could feel his body heat. “You’ll be fine honey.” Right when he said that an unassuming looking guy in a washed-out shirt and trucker hat threw his dance partner up on his shoulder, whirling the woman around, making her think of a windmill. Sy must have seen the expression on her face. Chuckling, he reassured her that they would stay with the basics.

This was different, so very different from every date she’d ever gone on. No fancy restaurant with table cloths and candle sticks, no awkwardly sitting next to each other, staring at the screen in a movie theatre. This dancing was different. No grinding, being groped with sweaty hands in a sea of bodies on a dark dance floor.

He had spent some time trying to teach her an easy two step, which she did not master but still had a lot of fun trying. Now he was just leading her around the dance floor, spinning, preventing her from running into other people, making her laugh. There was a lot of space between everyone, between them, and yet it felt like she’s never been closer to someone. His presence was calming and effortlessly bridged the gap between them.

At the end of the night they both were a little sweaty and tired but very happy. When is truck came to a hold in front of her house, he got out and opened the door for her, helping her out, not letting go of her hand after. Her skin was glowing under the street lights and her smile still bright when she looked up at him. “Thank you, Sy. I can’t remember the last time I had this much fun.”

He looked at her like she was something other than just human, his eyes drifting gown to her lips. “Oh, honey. Will you let me take you out again? This is just the beginning.” Her answer was just as breathy as in the beginning of their date.

“Yes, please.”

“May I kiss you?”

“Yes, please.”

I can’t get this au out of my head so unless i’m told otherwise I will definitely be looking for every little tidbit i can.

What is everyone’s abilities in the Marriages of State au? Like Gem can do magic but can say Lizzie or Jimmy have abilities with water??

Lizzie at least (maybe Jimmy as well) does have some water abilities. The exact nature and extent of which I haven't exactly worked out yet. The main reason for the water powers at all is because one of my seed images/concepts for this au (part of the seed image actually) is Lizzie XXXXXXX XXXX XXX XXXXX XX XXXXXXX and XXXXXXXX XXXX.

Whatever she/they do end up with it would come after the eeveelution and would likely be restricted to certain situations/contexts. Like I said, I'm still working out the details as I go. A lot of it will depend on the requirements and limitations of the story.

Gem can't be defeated, she has the power of fireballs and research on her side.

Scott and Xornoth have their god-bestowed elemental powers, which are fairly mild/passive to start with but to ramp up dramatically once Plot starts happening.

Sausage does blood magic and meddles with time-space. Which has Consequences.

Katherine can go full Poison Ivy strangle her enemies with vines but doesn't usually.

Shrub figures out their powers as she gets them, they're new.

Pearl also has some passive abilities, as a side-effect of her connection with the Heart of Helianthia.

Pix gets infrequent visions, mostly of the "future consequences of things that just happened" variety or specifically to do with death. He might have a powered up mode as well where he can actually kill people with a touch but that very, very rarely makes an appearance if I decide to go that route. I'm still feeling out the exact nature of his connection to Death. He does also summon lightning sometimes. He does have the title Stormbringer for a reason.

Joey has the ability to make totems of the undying, exact details tbd.

Joel has the most passive and yet op power of all, which is conditional immunity to magic. (It is conditional)

LOG 1:

Hello person, whoever you may be. Hopefully someone my home planet of Hermitcraft, if it’s still habitable, or that other liveable planet…what was its name? Yeah, Earth.

My name is Tango-Tek, I prefer to say it as Tango of the Tek variety, but you can call me Tango. I am a blaze, so I can throw fireballs and have other generic fire abilities. I have a fiery tail and my hair is also made out of fire. I can also breathe both oxygen and nitrogen. I have made this travel log, or whatever it even is, as my condition is…pretty bad, I guess.

Our moon, hopefully you’re familiar with the term, was perfectly fine, until a couple months ago, where it started to get bigger. My friends Grian and Mumbo were the first to notice it, then everyone slowly started catching on and making escape plans. Then, as the moon got bigger and bigger, which we eventually realised was actually closer and closer, many side effects started taking place. Chunks of the ground and animals started to fly up and then fall down again, we could suddenly jump much higher than normal, and there were many earthquakes. The Boatem Crew, which had Grian and Mumbo in it, along with some other friends of mine called Pearl, Scar and Impulse, made a cult in which they worshipped the moon and didn’t sleep in the hope of ‘appeasing it’ and getting it to go back called the Mooners, but that didn’t work either. Then those idiots tried to blow up the moon, but no luck. After a while, the chunks of land and animals that had started to float up suddenly stopped coming back down, and we realised that this was our cue to leave. Everyone started leaving the planet some way or the other, as our fear was that the moon was going to crash into Hermitcraft. I had built a rocket and flew away into space, to see where it takes me, and it’s from inside this rocket that I’m recording this right now.

LOG 2:

Update – I’ve landed on a planet. I don’t know which planet this is, but it seems to be quite distant to any other planet I know, and I used to be a scientist along with my friend Zedaph, so that’s saying something. I don’t know if the air outside is oxygen or nitrogen, or if it’s a gas that I’m unable to breathe. I’ve sent a parrot outside to see whether the air is breathable or not.

LOG 3:

Yeah, the parrot died due to suffocation. I stuck my head out for 5 seconds to see if the air was at least nitrogen, but no such luck. However, I did see some  adorable alien-rabbit looking skadoodles outside, so that must be what’s inhabiting the place. Later, I’ll wear my helmet and go out there to do some research about this species.

LOG 4:

MAYDAY MAYDAY MAYDAY!!! THE CREATURES ARE HOSTILE!!! I MANAGED TO RUN BACK TO THE SHIP IN TIME BEFORE THEY TORE ME TO BITS WITH THEIR ABNORMALLY SHARP TEETH, BUT I’VE FOUND OUT THEY CAN EAT METAL AND ARE DEVOURING THE SPACESHIP! I NEED HELP THEY’RE SO CLOSE I-
