Positive-ish Things that Happened During the Curse

I feel that I’ve made a lot of posts about how terrible the curse was for the staff (I’m not mistaken in doing so, the curse was definitely bad for everyone) but that little voice in my head got me thinking: what if I made a happy post about it?  So without further ado, here are a few headcanons about the curse that will (hopefully) make you smile.

Chip teaches Froufrou some new tricks.  Garderobe and Cadenza had already taught him the basics, like “sit,” “stay,” “quiet,” and a few other general ones, but Chip decides that “roll over,” “play dead,” “hide and seek,” and a few other fun ones should be added.

In the first few days, Plumette and the other maids cleaned the entirety of the castle. Obsessively. And while this served as a healthy distraction, it was also a way to remind themselves that they weren’t forgotten. It was their own rebellion against the curse, and everyone thanked them for it. The only two places left avoided were the West Wing (for obvious reasons) and the East Wing, because Adam forbade anyone go near it after his mom died.

Cuisinier had control over most of the knives in the kitchen, and with some help from more mobile residents, he carved toys for Chip and Froufrou. 

Yes, telekinesis exists. Cogsworth confirmed that some objects are just objects, so I imagine Mrs. Potts can push her own cart, Lumiere can light every candle in the castle, Plumette and the other maids can control the sheets and pillows, Chip can use his saucer like a skateboard, Garderobe can make a dress with a thought, etc.

On the subject of dog toys, the Madame wasted no time sewing little trinkets filled with rice and beans from the kitchens. Though she couldn’t leave the East Wing, Mrs. Potts provided the necessary materials on her cart. It was through this love of crafting (and the precious dog, of course) that Garderobe and Cuisinier, the two stationary residents, became good friends.

They all became snow artists over time. Think about it: the whole castle is blanketed in an enchanted winter, which means an enormous amount of snow. As Lumiere put it, they were doing nearly nothing before Belle arrived. But I can imagine that the staff members--Chip, Chapeau, Lumiere, and Plumette especially--learned how to make the best snow-sculptures ever.

And for those who immediately call baloney on Lumiere being good at it because of his candles, he can and does put them out. And even so, you know you can form ice by melting away parts of it, right? Imagine him making abstract, curving shapes out of icicles, or beautiful, water-like patterns in ice blocks. 

Not to mention, any time Chip asks for a snowball fight, the team who has Chapeau with them always wins. And it’s unfair. But it’s fun.

There have been times when Chip has been buried in the snow. It’s all in good fun, but Chapeau insists on watching him every time. After all, porcelain/fine china can crack if exposed to enough cold.

There are some dogs out there that aren’t smart enough to recognize their own reflections, so I like to think Froufrou has no idea what’s going on. Like sure, his mamma and papà look different, but they smell the same, so what’s the big deal?

I think I’ve mentioned this in other posts, but during pre-curse times, Lumiere hosted little midnight parties with music and dancing. He keeps that up, obviously, and after the curse falls on the castle, those meetings descend into chaos (since the walls of the ballroom have playable instruments on them, and the maids can fly). Chapeau usually provides the music, and sometimes the maestro joins in (when he feels up to it--after all, he’s incomplete without his dear one). 

Cogsworth hates it, but has absolutely no say on the matter, because he’s outvoted by everyone else.

Lumiere could and did light candles from far away. Maybe it’s just the 1991 version knocking on my brain, but I love the idea of Lumiere just blowing out one of his flames and then having all of the candles in his vicinity flaring up instantly. You need a ballroom lit? Give him five seconds. Done.

Plumette and the other maids tested their wings. On a calm day, they just decided to see how high they could fly, and Plumette made it pretty high before the winds picked up. The quest to find her around the castle grounds was pretty funny...for everyone but Plumette. And Lumiere. Poor thing went cold with worry. 

Of course they found her, and of course she wasn’t hurt, but from a bird’s-eye perspective, seeing the staff scramble to “catch the maids” just makes me laugh so much.

Under Mrs. Potts’ strict instruction, Chapeau taught Garderobe and Cadenza Adam’s favorite lullaby, the one his mother sang to him when he was little. If the Beast slept inside the castle, whoever was closest, and whoever was awake, would play it for him. He’d rage and silence them if he was awake, so in that way, his mother visited him in his dreams. It was a sign of the servants relearning to care.

The first big reunion with the beast and the servants was a few weeks into the curse: 

For the first few weeks, the Beast was so filled with self-loathing he would avoid the staff on a daily basis, killing things in the forest and eating them, like a real animal. Once Mrs. Potts and Chapeau found out that this was what he got up to when he left, Cogsworth nearly had a stroke and put his foot down. The Beast was doing the exact opposite of what he was supposed to be doing; disappearing into some wild thing was absolutely unacceptable. 

They didn’t pull out every stop. To do so would mean pretending like nothing was wrong, and they weren’t about to start that. But they made him dinner--a childhood favorite--and locked the doors of the castle, forcing him to eat what they made. They hovered, out of striking distance, but present in case he needed them. 

He ate. He trudged up the stairs to the West Wing. Looked at the rose. And cried. His first good cry in years, one that eventually lulled him to sleep. 

He never missed dinner after that.

Roses and Daffodils - Chapter 2

Pairings: Gaston/Adam and Adam/Belle (with bonus Gaston & Belle friendship)

Summary: When Belle breaks the Enchantress’s spell before she ever returns to the village, Gaston’s plan to threaten to lock her father away in an asylum never comes to fruition. Instead, when Gaston discovers that Belle is engaged to a prince, he becomes determined to steal her away, vowing that he will still someday make Belle his wife. After Gaston secures a position as the gamekeeper at the castle, he strikes up a false friendship with Adam - a relationship he tolerates only so that he can become closer to Belle. Over time, Gaston’s feelings change, and a friendship that began as a clever ruse transforms into something else entirely.

But happily ever after won’t come easily. And thanks to the Enchantress, things aren’t always what they seem.

When Adam finally emerged from the castle and jogged over to meet him, Gaston couldn’t help but smirk at the ridiculousness of his outfit - a long-sleeved button-down white shirt and dark blue trousers, both obviously made from high-quality materials and much too nice to wear while traipsing through the woods. They were going hunting for crying out loud. Even the man’s boots had a brilliant shine to them.

“Looking very noble today, your highness,” Gaston said, hoping that his comment would sound like a genuine compliment, rather than the insult it really was. 

Adam stopped walking to scrutinize his own outfit and then snorted a laugh.

“It looks more like I’m going to a banquet than on a hunting trip, doesn’t it?”

Gaston only shrugged. 

“It’s alright. You can laugh,” Adam said with a smile. “I know I’m out of my element.”

“Have you ever been hunting before?” 

“Once,” Adam said as Gaston opened the gate. “Ten years ago.”

“I thought all noblemen learned how to hunt,” Gaston said, immediately realizing that continuing to act cordially toward the prince would be more difficult than he thought. He tried again. “You must have been too busy with your many other responsibilities, your highness.”

“Not busy, exactly, but I wasn’t really in a position to learn.”

The two of them started toward the woods. As they walked, Gaston glanced over at Adam. Why hadn’t he learned to hunt like all of the other men in his social class? Had he been living under a rock? And then Gaston remembered the insane rumors about Adam having spent the last decade living as a literal beast and he almost burst out laughing. It was a wonder that Adam hadn’t actually locked up Belle’s father for spreading such ridiculous lies. The man must have been a real pushover to let some peasant tarnish his reputation like that, even if that peasant was the father of the woman he wanted to marry. Gaston wouldn’t have tolerated it, that was for sure.

It´s time again for a daily-prompt based fic for this year´s Domaystic - yeah!

I kindly blame @sunflowers-and-sandwiches for giving me ideas to do this in the first place, ever since she´s left such a creative comment on one of my older kristanna fanfics...

So, this is a sequel fanfic and a crossover of Frozen x Beauty and the Beast (Disney 1991).

Also, I would like to thank @thefamilybruno for being the source of inspiration through her fics, which broadened my horizons and finally made me do something I never thought I could do. A multi-chapter polyamory fic.

Day 01 - prompt: fraud

Belle is sorting the books that need to be replaced on the shelves.  

Anna is getting ready, giddy, and excited. Belle smiles. Her colleague is nice and she's glad that Anna is her supervisor at this new job. Belle knows the feeling of new love only too well, remembering how Gaston literally carried her in his arms for the first few months. This young man who comes into the library and insists on asking about Anna, he´s extremely cute. Belle's smile widens. His name again? Oh yes... Mr Bjorgman.

Gaston’s Tangled Adventures

 Maybe she could paint something for him. A bear or a wolf. Something he could hang over the fireplace in his tavern. Gaston’s eyes went wide when he was struck with the perfect idea. To hell with painting a Goddamn animal - she could paint him!

“Rapunzel, I have wonderful news,” Gaston announced. “I have decided to hire you to paint something for me. And it will be the most important piece of art you’ve ever done.”

“What do you want me to paint?”

“Me, of course!”

“Oh, Gaston, I don’t know. Are you sure you want me to do it? I haven’t painted many portraits of people before. Just a few of myself and a couple of mother too.”

“It’ll be fine,” Gaston said as he strolled around the room, still admiring the artwork. “You have talent!”

“Thank you,” Rapunzel said. “Your encouragement really means a lot to me. Mother isn’t exactly generous with the compliments.”

“Ah, my parents never were either. I had to discover my greatness all on my own.”

“Good for you!” Rapunzel said encouragingly. “You’re like a knight from one of my fairy tales.”

“I am, aren’t I?” Gaston flexed his biceps. “Magnificently handsome, incredibly strong, relentlessly charming. Who better to be the hero of a fairy tale?”

“I really am lucky that you’re the one who found my tower, huh? It could have been a man with pointy teeth.”

Pointy teeth? Gaston scrunched up his nose. What was this bizarre woman talking about? Gaston thought about the other men in the village. He supposed a lot of them had crooked or broken teeth. Not everyone could be blessed with a perfect smile like his. 

“You’re right about that,” Gaston said. “No one else is as handsome as me.”

The small flat is barely big enough for two people, but it´s very cosy and just so her. Belle sighs. It´s nice to be welcomed and taken in on such short notice. After getting some bit of sleep on Anna´s couch, she does feel a little silly. Kristoff and Anna have both left the house very early and let her slumber. When she woke, breakfast still stood on the table for her with a little note from Anna...

ohhhh I’d love to hear your unpopular opinions about batb 👀

okay i mean it probably isn’t a secret at this point but i still feel like i’ll get assassinated for saying it outright. but: i think beauty and the beast 2017 is better than beauty and the beast 1991.

and i can throw a thousand caveats on it like i still love batb 1991!!!!! i grew up with it and it’s so good!!! it’s so lovely and amazing and one of the disney greats!!!!! and i would not be lying!!! it’s a WORK OF ART! and because of all that, i think it is an excellent foundation that batb 2017 was built upon and expanded upon which allowed it to flourish Even More than batb 1991.

allow me to elaborate further.

i think that where batb 1991 focuses much more on the story itself, leaving adam and belle a bit more secondary, batb 2017 focuses everything on adam and belle and lets them tell the story themselves. to me, it’s a difference between story drive and character drive, and i just personally enjoy batb 2017 diving so much deeper into adam and belle!!! their personalities and interests and sadness and backstories! they seem so much more real to me, so much more human.

i love the things that were altered. i love how when belle asks him to come into the light, he doesn’t. she has to force the light into his face to see what he is. i love that he was so much more unbelievably stubborn that he didn’t even care who stayed as his prisoner, as long as someone paid for trespassing and theft and overall just ruining his day. i love that the library wasn’t a gift of gratitude, but rather a gift only given when he saw her reaction to it. 2017 adam is so much more stubborn and self-absorbed and self-loathing that this beautiful woman being a chance at breaking the curse just does not cross his mind at first. and i love that. he was so completely hopeless that belle’s presence was nothing more than an inconvenience.

until there’s a spark of shared interest. until there’s a connection of mind and spirit. until they discover that maybe they’re not so different from each other after all!

i just absolutely love the fact that the library comes up because he wants to prove to her how much better his literary taste is than hers. he’s such an arrogant prick that even this amazing library has to be coated in his vanity. it only starts to shatter when he sees her reaction. he sees the truly innocent wonder on her face and for a moment the masks come off for both of them. she’s touched his library, she’s brought the daylight into it. he’s almost speechless because of it! she tells him it’s wonderful and all he can say is “yes… i suppose it is.” followed by giving it to her. hey, maybe this “common thief’s daughter” isn’t so bad after all.

i love how batb 1991 does everything too, but all of it happens just a bit too quickly for me. he changes too quickly, they fall in love too quickly, everything just happens really fast and i feel like i never have time to settle into their friendship or romance. i just kind of have to follow the story and accept that they are in love! which isn’t a terrible thing at all. i grew up loving it and never wanting more. but after seeing batb 2017, i do absolutely love that it got to use more time to really highlight their friendship; to really make me believe that these two are friends who are also very much falling for one another.

that’s why i love the colonnade scene so much, where they’re just talking and joking and confessing to one another. no montage, no song, they’re just hanging out and smiling like idiots the entire time. and that leads to the paris scene which is such a sweet and amazing moment!! they get to run away, just for a minute!! and adam gets to be there for belle for an extremely personal moment, and she’s comforted by that. batb 2017 just provides so many extra little details and scenes to really show the kind of relationship they form, and i guess, for my brain, i needed that to really believe in their love. i’ve never liked romance stories that happen too quickly. i have nothing against them, they just never really have been able to convince me that the pair is truly in love, and not just for romance’s sake. i need them to be besties first🥺 and batb 2017 just does such a lovely little job of making me believe that adam and belle have a love that goes as deep as friendship.

so, yeah. i know live action remakes have a bad reputation, and rightly so!! i understand!!! honestly before i saw batb 2017, i was entirely on that train. i thought live actions were pointless. but then i saw this one and i didn’t expect to fall in love okay!!! it just happened!!! i don’t treat all live actions the same, because i think some Are more unnecessary than others. but batb 2017 did such a fantastic job in holding true to the same story while building upon it and making it even more amazing and beautiful than it already was. and i KNOW not everyone agrees with me, but that’s the unpopular opinion for ya!!

With one last leap, Adam reached the grass. Seeing Adam’s self-satisfied smile ignited a tiny spark of playfulness and without hesitation, Gaston reached out and shoved Adam sideways into the stream. Adam stepped into the water, soaking his pants up to the middle of his shins, and immediately shot Gaston a look of playful annoyance.

“Look what you did, you brute!”

“It’s a lesson you needed to learn.”

“What lesson?”

“Not to wear such nice clothing on a hunt.”

Adam made a face as he stepped back onto the grass. Gaston grinned at the sight. Pleased with himself for hopefully annoying Adam half as much as the prince always annoyed him, Gaston began walking back to the footpath, chuckling under his breath when he heard the squishy sound of Adam’s footsteps following behind him. 

“This is disgusting,” Adam said. “I think I hate you a little.”

Gaston looked over his shoulder, smirking when he caught Adam’s eye. 

“The feeling is mutual, prince.”
