batch, n.

Exact origin unknown, but probably from Old English bæcce, meaning "something baked".

This word entered the English vocabulary sometime in the late 15th century, and obtained the sense "an aggregated collection of similar things" in the 1590s.

This is a particularly fun and interesting word because of the pattern it follows, which is best illustrated through this quote from etymonline.com:

"Batch is to bake as watch (n.) is to wake and match (n.2) "one of a pair" is to make [sic]."

***EDIT!!! My mom is the coolest person on earth and has pointed out that "match" is not related to "make" but to "mate" (I'll be emailing etymonline about that). However, the trend still stands, as the affricatization of /t/ is the same (in Old English) as that of /k/: both lead to /tʃ/.

Why I think CX-2 will return in these last two episodes:

A: The helmet design lends to a perfect scooby doo who done it reveal.

B: CX-2 has had more than an ample amount of focus over this season, being one of the batch's deadliest enemies.

C: We still need the payoff to the updated CX trooper design we saw Hemlock looking over earlier in the season.
