Strongly agree that Israel also doesn't really care abt its civilians either. I was born in Israel and my family moved to Canada when I was a kid, with (at least one of the reasons) being so that my siblings and I wouldn't have to serve in the IDF. Come my 18th birthday I had to apply for military service deferral, and found out that there is no option for permanent deferral. It's conditional, the condition being that if you spend more than 6 calendar months in Israel again, you will be forced to serve. Alongside this, anyone who refuses to serve is jailed. Israel does not care. They despise Palestinians, and they do not even care for their civilians. Their civilians are but disposable tools in their genocidal quest. I didnt want to be negative about natla, i didnt want to hate it, i was really really rooting for it at first, even when the original creators exited the project i was still being positive about it.

On its own this is a good show. Ive seen ppl criticise acting or cgi, but i thought both of those were good. The casting (with one exception) is amazing.

And thats what makes me so mad, the show really had all the requirements to be great, but in their idiotic attempt to appeal to "Fans of got" they committed the exact same mistake the got writers did, namely thinking they can or need to improve the original.

Natla is chock full of unnecessary little changes, but these changes add the fuck up. Taking away so many of kataras lines or actions and giving them to someone else? Removing her anger about sexism, but not the sexism itself? Aang can fly? Aang didnt run away from his Avatar duties, taking away a big part of his character development? Cutting out ALL the slapstick humour? The weird ass first 5 minutes? Fucking making us watch the airnation genocide? And thats just ep 1.

Also why why whyyyyyyyyyyyy the fuck did it need to be dark and gritty?? WHY. they said they wanted to appeal to the original audience and got Fans, like, i dont even have words for this, why??? Why even try to adapt atla when you plan on fundamentally changing the vibe and style of the original Show, why not just pick literally any other grimdark fantasy instead??

I feel so bad for this cast, they truly deserved better, but the producers of natla clearly only had profits on their minds and tried to 'widen' the intended audience by adding dark and edgy shit (as if the og atla Fans werent enough) while also removing amything deemed too controversial (the sexism discussions, character flaws, putting sokka in make up,...). Also "show dont tell" is dead i guess.

This sucks man, i wish the cast all the best and a successful career, but i skimmed through reviews of the show and needless to say i wont watch more than the first ep. This is genuinely disappointing.

Again, on its own this would be a great show, but as an adaptation of atla it falls completely flat bc it misunderstands whst made atla so good to begin with. idk if i posted about this but yeah, this is me bringing up the mcu again. but it's the guardians of the g/alaxy, or more specifically rocket (the raccoon).

i would say rocket is like catra but done right. rocket starts out as an asshole that laughs at others' misery or weaknesses. he wasn't a good friend to groot, though idk if that would count as abuse, because it's not like rocket sadistically hurt groot the way catra hurt adora (but you can disagree if you've watched the movies, it's been a while since i saw them). but as the first film goes on, rocket starts caring about the team and he's very distraught when groot sacrifices himself (for reasons we'll see soon). rocket becomes a sort of parental figure to baby groot following this.

in the second movie, rocket is still a dick, but we see more behind his motivations, and he clearly regrets being such an asshole. even if he doesn't explicitly apologize to quill at the end, rocket is very remorseful during the funeral of yondu, and he implies his apology (talking about yondu but in the end applying it to himself), and quill understands. in fact, rocket was the one who arranged the entire ceremony, which shows that he cares despite his sarcastic and mean personality.

and then the third movie actually deeply details rocket's backstory. he was a raccoon taken from earth and experimented on since he was a baby. he was raised by the high evolutionary, who praised him, but still abused him and scared him. rocket could be some sort of "golden child" since the high evolutionary was obsessed with his intelligence, and he couldn't care less about rocket's friends, other animals who were also experimented on. rocket eventually tries to break everyone free, but the high evolutionary (and the other guards) kills his friends. rocket breaks free all on his own. he also claws his abuser's face.

and all that explains why rocket is so afraid of getting close to ppl, or of being vulnerable. he lost his loved ones bc of that. he was mocked for mourning his dead friend. rocket's behavior is explained by these events, but they're not excused. and later he finds a family that accepts those feelings. when he mourns groot in the first film, drax silently relates to him and comforts him (drax also lost his wife and his daughter).

rocket actually grows as a character. in the end, not only does he accept who he is, he becomes the leader of a new group of heroes once the guardians disband in the third movie.

i also like that we see how rocket cared about his first friends, who welcomed him. they had a special bond. the movie SHOWS us that. they liked to dance and to daydream how the world outside the cages would be like. while i watched the third film, it reminded me of how catra and adora could've bonded with the horde trio.

obviously, again, spop is a whole other kind of media, while the gotg trilogy is aimed at older audiences (if a kid watched the third movie, though... they would be traumatized). but still, rocket reminds me a lot of catra, and what she could've been. an asshole but not an abuser. a criminal (i think he was a bounty hunter in the first movie) but not someone who massively kills people. it's not like he ever committed genocide/omnicide.

("ooooh but you hate flawed women and you just like rocket bc he's a man" literally i love gamora and nebula. those two are my favorite characters in gotg, besides rocket and groot. in fact they have a sisterly bond quite similar to adora and catra's, but that's another post)

S1E1

First thing I've noticed is that the way tbb fights is really inefficent. It looks cool until you realize they're taking out droids one by one and techs droid poppers are only good for one use each. A normal droid popper would take out maybe like 6 droids at once if they're close enough. Tech used three and got three but we saw the whole sequence of it ig bc it's mean to be cool?

And again like I'm confused bc how much of this is their own skill and how much is access to weapons that regular clones don't have.

Like why does tech insist on getting as close as possible to stick these grenades and droid poppers on droids when the more efficient thing is to throw it from a distance?

I am extremely biased towards Rick, a lot of his attributes make him a really appealing character to me and that’s ok, bc again fiction =/= real life.

Anyway, I see a few ppl want Rick to almost “repent” for how terrible he’s been toward his family. And like yeah, I can see why ppl want that – but at the same time it feels like it wouldn’t be this grand gesture of penitence others want to see, or I hope not because we’ve already seen that in SE6 and it didn’t feel fulfilling at all.

Not saying Rickbot was not enjoyable, I loved him so much because he was a literal representation of how good Rick could be—that feeling was nice and the betrayal was gut-wrenching. But at the same time, is that really what change would look like? Like just start acting nice and everything is forgiven lol. I get Morties are bred for forgiveness and all but idk.

I personally would not find any satisfaction from show having Rick repent/lament from his actions, at least not how we saw it in hindsight. He’s too far gone for that.

What I think would be more realistic to anything resembling closure is Rick settling into the villain role I feel Dan Harmon wants him to fulfill, I say “feel” purely based on how we saw him from Morty’s POV at the end of EP10. I’m constantly thinking the ending clip of SE6Ep9, we expect the danger to befall the little worms when the detective was the one who ended up getting snatched: What does that mean for the narrative? Prime Rick was set up to be the big bad in C-137’s eyes, but at the end of SE6EP10 who looked more fitting for the role in Morty’s eyes, the audience’s eyes… ?

Must all shows necessarily have a happy ending for it to be good? Is it not enough that it has a satisfactory closure, especially when it deals with themes of codependence, emotional incest, and toxic relationships?

We still have 4 more seasons to there’s plenty of things they could touch on that could change our perspective, including:

·         Pocket Morties – and the commodification and dehumanization of grandsons.

·         Evil Morty’s return, already mentioned by Dan at some point. I want to know his provenance, because it HAS to be all kinds of messed up if the kid was willing to commit mass genocide just to be able to get away from Ricks.

·         Rick’s own upbringing, I’m curious about that, because I'm sure there is so much to unpack there!

But today i opened social media and saw another three names, that have been killed or committed suicide
