Once again plugging the BEASTS OF BURDEN OMNIBUS in the hopes of selling a copy or two. In this modern comics world a book comes out and disappears like a pebble tossed in a lake. There's a few ripples and then it's forgotten. I keep taking this pebble out and drying it. I don't think that metaphor really works but fuck it.

Holy fucking shit I got my eltingville shirt signed by Dorkin. Massive win. He held a panel which I caught the back half of in Staten, at New Dorp High School!! Kind of a ways away from me but so worth it

Hey. Do you guys remember that one comic that went around tumblr awhile back about a bunch of dogs and a cat that find a heard of sheep on a hill, and one of the dogs can see that all of the sheep are dead? Well. Apparently that series is getting an omnibus edition collecting all the stories so far. Almost 600 pages of supernatural animal mystery goodness for only $30 (I already have hardbound copies of every single volume of Beasts of Burden so far, but I am SO tempted to get the whole thing in a single book)

Drawing class work - Prompts

We've got the anthropomorphic camera, Detective Snaps, from my lesson on anthropomorphism (inspired by my camera & the old, then detective prompt).

A junicorn. I didn't think I could draw horses, so I made a succulent one (because I love plants), and this came out surprisingly well.

And a beast of burden, prompt. I love ducks, and duck ferry sounded cool, so duck ferry!

I wish that they would make a movie adaptation of the Beasts of Burden comics. I've loved the comic for a while, and every once in a while, the thought of a movie adaptation returns to my brain.

For those who don't know, Beasts of Burden is a "magic exists but generally hidden from most people" kind of story, like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the chosen people to protect the town of Burden, is a group of dogs (and a couple cats). It's great.

I previously thought that if they ever adapted it to the big screen, they should use animal actors like they used to do with films like Homeward Bound. Although while scrolling, I came across this clip and I've changed my mind:

Some of those Jim Henson dog puppets are realistic enough, and very expressive, that I'd love to see the Beasts of Burden in that style. I think puppetry is often overlooked as a serious artform. There's some really dark and atmospheric stuff done with puppets, like The Narrative of Victor Karloch:

It's a shame that practical effects are underutilized in modern film making. I think in my mind, a movie of Beasts of Burden would have the animals and supernatural beings as puppets, and the humans as human actors, like A Muppet Christmas Carol. I know that it's incredibly unlikely to ever be made, but maybe I can will it into existence by thinking real hard about it.
