Black Alternative Music Recs
Not being Black myself, I hesitate to make myself a spokesperson specifically for Black alt artists as I don’t want to be tokenizing or reductive and I’d rather, like, uplift the voices of Black alt people than just make my own lists, BUT, I keep seeing people in the comments of recent posts about Death Grips asking for recs for more Black alternative artists, and I do know a good amount, so as a really basic list I wanted to throw out a few artists I really like—
Light Asylum: Darkwave. Really incredible vocalist, and openly queer. “Dark Allies” is a huge goth club hit but all of her work is great. I’ve seen her live twice and her live concerts are incredible too. One of the bigger Black goth artists.
Ho99o9: Punk/Industrial Hip Hop. Another big one, they’re pretty well known at this point but if you DON’T know them you should. Huuuge variety in sound here, all of it is so fun and solid, absolutely amazing energy.
clipping.: Industrial/Experimental Hip Hop. Really fun and catchy, great lyrics, great mixing, great experimental electronic sound.
Void Palace: Industrial/EBM. Local LA-based act with an amazing industrial dance club sound and vibe. Seen them live and they bring such cool but crazy energy. Really really solid.
O. Children: Darkwave/Post Punk. Really classic gothic sound, amazing vocals, really underrated, theatrical, fun, and moody gothic rock.
Izzy Spears: Industrial/Experimental Hip Hop. Openly gay alternative hip hop artist with a heavy and super danceable beat. I saw him live and he sounded great and had awesome punky energy.
LUSTSICKPUPPY: Punk/Electro-Industrial. Has almost a hyperpop sound sometimes, super high BPM high energy danceable electronic music with a really crazy theatrical style to their performances (kicking myself for missing them last year!). ETA: LSP uses they/them pronouns, corrected now but apologies for missing that irt any older iterations of this post floating around.
Baby Storme: Darkwave/Ethereal Pop. I think she got a bit of popularity on TikTok recently? I don’t use TikTok so idk, but she’s great. Really well mixed, fun, super solid dreamy darkwave with a dancey pop sound intermixed.
Grizz: Darkwave Hip Hop. I JUST discovered this artist, he’s another LA local who just put out a new single that’s getting some attention and he’s really good. Super cool goth fusion sound with really great classic darkwave electronic backing. Check him out!
Cold Gawd: Shoegaze/Post-Hardcore. Iconically sells merch that says “ABOLISH WHITE SHOEGAZE.” Absolute powerhouse of sound; I saw them live and their music sounded torrential, like this intense, powerful storm.
Debby Friday: Dark Electronic/Experimental Hip Hop. Really really haunting and dreamy gothic sound. Collaborates with artists like Boy Harsher. Superbly mixed. Lots of variety in sound but very consistently strong.
Dre Robinson: Industrial/Experimental Electronic. Longtime cEvin Key/Skinny Puppy collaborator. He was on stage with Skuppy during the recent live tour, doing sound and playing the maggot maracas (iykyk). He’s also been involved in a ton of cEvin’s solo work and accompanies him on stage for his live solo shows.
Charles Levi: Industrial/Industrial Rock. Wax Trax!/90s industrial icon, did work for My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult and Pigface. He’s recently had a bunch of serious health problems and has a GoFundMe up of you’d like to donate. He contributed to so much classic industrial rock, it’s crazy.
There’s a billion more. These are just some artists I genuinely really like personally who are Black, and I think all of them deserve a ton of support and recognition as contributors to the alternative scene. There’s so many amazing Black-fronted alternative bands and projects, and I’m just scratching the surface with artists I know and enjoy, Also considered listing some larger names like Yves Tumor and Tricky, but I feel they’re slightly more well known in the mainstream with ~1mil+ listeners on Spotify and I wanted to highlight some slightly more underground voices (to varying degrees—obviously some artists here are more well known than others).
Check them out!! Support Black alternative music!

You startle awake, shooting up from your current splayed out position in your bed. The obnoxiously loud chimes echo repetitively at your bedside. You reach for your iPhone on your nightstand, squinting down at the lit up screen grasping it in annoyance whilst fumbling to hit the ‘snooze.’
Wednesday, the screen reads to your utter dismay. Every Wednesday was simply a living hell. You weren’t exactly sure why Han seemed to hate you so much... yet on second thought, you had a pretty good idea.
With your lack of attention brought to the class and your blunt remarks on how unsatisfied you were within his teaching ethics, you seemed to put each other through the same amount of stress to the amusement of your peers.Your dear friend, Ryujin, however, was a different case. She was his favorite out of all students; his most prized pupil. The student who could achieve anything within his horrid class that mirrors that of a prison. At least, that’s how it felt to you.
It was a common occurrence to tease her about the favoritism he showed towards her. She constantly denied the obvious fact, rolling her eyes and making snide remarks. You’d always respond with a simple shrug in half-agreement, aware that her argument of you being lazy and overall unresponsive to his lessons was the problem. Besides not giving a shit, you couldn’t help but to come up with an argument of your own; the possibility that he was just trying to get into her-
--
“Yah!” Ryujin snaps, interrupting you in the middle of your incessant rant. “The only reason he likes me is because I’m not always up his ass like some people,” she quips, making sure to emphasize her statement to insinuate you.
“Ryujin,” you sigh, hopping a little as you lift your bag strap higher onto your shoulder, “get over yourself. The only reason he likes you is because he’s just trying to get it in your ass.”
You smirk at her strained reaction before she goes to whack you on the arm as you both continue to head towards the classroom.
“No need to be jealous, y/n.” You roll your eyes. “Just trust me! Stick with me and you’ll be fine!” She advises, finally making her way through the door.
“When you say things like that, I know I’m inevitably doomed,” you laugh following suit. Ryujin can’t help but to shake her head, narrowing her pretty brown eyes down at you. You gratefully avoid them from the loose strands of hair hanging loose in her face.
With one last flip of her medium length hair, she side-eyes you with a snarky retort, “Whatever. Suit yourself.”
She sticks her pointy nose up into the air, practically skipping to her seat as you trail behind, shaking your head at her antics.
You watch as she plops down, getting ready to prepare herself for the class. A few steps away and you feel your body tense at your sudden, dumb realizaton that not only are you going to have to deal with grumpy old Han today, but today is also another day to face that kid, Min Yoongi.
It’s almost been a whole week since your odd encounter. Han’s classes took place on Wednesdays and Fridays, and the last time you saw him was exactly six days ago; not that you were counting.
Sure it was just a brief moment, but the fact that you’d never noticed him before irked you to wits end. If you have, you would’ve never forgotten a face like his. This was your only class together, you’ve come to realize, so the fact that you hadn’t seen him since before the weekend made you stiffen with a crippling anxiety.
Still, you can’t refrain from sneaking a quick glance to the back of the room, where you’ve almost failed to notice his presence. His head rests in the palm of his hands, black Dr. Dre’s covering his ears as he gently nods to the beat of his music with his eyes closed. To you, he appeared rather peaceful. The puffiness of his hair indicates his recent shower, while his bangs hang straight downward into the front of his eyelids into a dark fringe.
You end up staring at him for what seems like a while. You’re about to turn away but almost as if on cue, you see his eye pop open. He leans up in his seat, scanning the room before his eyes transfix on you. You jump at the small interaction, debating on whether you should acknowledge or ignore.
To be honest, you were a little shy already feeling the heat rise onto your cheeks. He stares at you quizzically and before you can debate on a way of acknowledgement. Your arm lifts up automatically before you can even stop it, waving a small ‘hello.’ You wait patiently for any sign of acknowledgement until he quickly turns away.
What the fuck?
Your mouth hangs agape, your arm instinctively reaching at the back of your head in an awkward feat. You drop your bag with a loud thump beside your desk, continuing to coyly peer over at him. He’s still ignoring you.
It’s rather confusing. You want to say something; to go up to him and strike up a conversation, maybe even ask what the hell his deal was, but even if you had what the hell would you possibly say?
He’s now turned towards the wall, head in his switched palms. You were pretty sure that he was indeed doing this on purpose. Yet on second thought, you were always a tad high strung and could’ve been crowned the queen of overthinking. It could’ve been one of those moments...
You’re too distracted to even notice Ryujin snickering beside you, as you plop down beside her in your seat.
“Oh...” she whispers, breaking the silence, not-so-quietly. “Are you upset that your lover isn’t passing on any of his attention to you today?”
You quickly snap out of your reverie, throwing a glare, and gritting your teeth in annoyance. You weren’t in the mood today.
“No, Ryujin,” you heave a breathy sigh, realization hitting you as you never had the chance to tell her about the encounter. “It’s just-”
“Quiet, please!” Professor Han interrupts, openly shooting you a disapproving glare, sauntering his seedy ass into the classroom. “We’re about to begin.” You both make eye contact. He squints his eyes as you fight off the urge to roll your own.
You groan out at the announcement, lifting up your bag to sit on your lap as you gather out your books. A presence dawns over you, glancing up to meet the hard gaze of grumpy old Han.
“Don’t hold in your excitement, Kim Y/N.” His hands rest on his hips, a stern look boring into your soul.
To be honest, if it was anyone else you would’ve been intimidated, but you were so caught up in the fury that Han brought into your life, you never gave into the intimidation.
“I expect you’ve read the assignment for today?” he challenges, nodding at the book that’s held in your hands.
Piece of shit.
“Yes, Professor, it was-...”
Your voice trails off, noticing that he’d completely cut you off, turning his attention elsewhere.
“Ah, Ryujin!” he chirps. “I forgot to mention what a great job you did on the previous assignment! I was very impressed with your literary skills!” he practically beams, making you gag behind him in disgust. Ryujin puts on a cocky front, leaving you scoffing in amusement.
Yep. you mentally confirm. He definitely wants to get it in your ass.
“Thanks, Professor Han! I try my best,” she says fakely flipping her blue-black hair over her shoulder.
“I see!” he briefly turns back to you, his demeanor instantly turning from hot to cold. You don’t falter at the amount of distaste he reveals to you as you prepare yourself for his next comment. “You should take a few tips from your friend, Miss Kim,” is the last thing he snarls, striding back to the front of the classroom.
The class breaks out into a fit of shits and giggles, making you feel as though you’ve time-traveled back to high school again. A strange sense of deja-vu from the last class. They all feel the same.
“Alright, now, now,” Han urges. “Let’s begin.”
--
Han’s class ended up running overtime to your dismay. A complete inconvenience considering your next class was all the way at the other end of the building.
Ryujin watches as you angrily shove your books back into your bag.
“Sucks you have to walk to the other side of the building, y/n.” She shakes her head preparing her books for her next lecture.
You lean your head back in annoyance, ready to scold her and her useless side remarks,“Ryujin-”
“Sorry, sorry.” She fixes her eyes onto your tense frame, making herself more comfortable in her seat. She frowns at your disheveled appearance as you distract yourself by zipping up your bag. “You know I love you.”
“Mm, sure,” you give her a few questionable nods, pushing out your chair with a loud screech and slacking your bag over your shoulder. “So...” you shift your weight to your side. “Are we still meeting at the cafe? At four?”
Ryujin scrunches her nose. “Yeah... about that...” a look of caution washes over her features, inhaling a deep breath before continuing with a quick, “Daniel’scomingtoo.”
Your eyes widen almost comically.
“Daniel? As in, Kang Daniel?”
Ryujin slowly nods, slightly shriveling into her seat whilst sparing you a brief nod. Just at the mention of his name, you can’t help the pang of annoyance that bubbles inside you.
You see, Kang Daniel is handsome, period. With his stupid small almond shaped eyes, perfectly quaffed hair, and the cutest beauty mark that sits right underneath his left eye, you couldn’t hate the kid. It’s just since last semester, things have become awkward; this was all of your fault, of course. It was all because of him being  one of those boys you’ve fallen head over heels for, only for you to do what normal people would do by introducing him to your friends, one being Ryujin, and somehow ended up watching them sucking faces all day.
Honestly, she didn’t know about your feelings until afterwards. She instantly felt horrible, but as you often did, you let it slide, convincing her to go for him since you were pretty sure he was oblivious to your feelings anyway.
Since then they’ve been a fling ever since. To this day, watching them all over each other, you couldn’t help but wonder about the “what ifs.” You’ve accepted that it was your fault in the first place, and it wasn’t until later that you figured out he did, in fact, know about your feelings. Life went on, and so did you.
You snap out of your haze, Ryujin’s brows furrowing into a tight knit.
“Are you okay?” She asks suddenly.
“Oh, yeah! Totally cool!” You quip a little too animatedly.
Spoiler, you’re NOT okay. Not. One. Bit.
You went half of last semester avoiding the both of them. It wasn’t until this semester that you decided to swallow your pride and just let your feelings go. It was painful, but you wanted Ryujin to be happy.
A look of concern graces her features as you begin to make your way towards the entrance of the classroom.
“I’ll catch you there, later. At four.”
“Okay,” she whispers, waving you off on your way.
--
I can’t believe this, you mutter to yourself, anxiety coursing through your veins.
God this is going to be awkward.
A bunch of thoughts of “what ifs” and “what not to do’s” echo through your mind. You needed to be chill, you had to keep up a strong front. Yeah. Keep up a strong front.
“Hey, y/n.”
You quickly glance up when you hear your professor’s voice echoing faintly from where you stand. The realization dawns on you as your eyes fall into a familiar pair of cat-like ones. Yoongi is casually leaning against the wall outside of the classroom, but he notices right away when you arrive. His brows lift quizzically as concern etches into his features even though it’s you who feels apprehensive. Was he waiting for you?
Your eyes are blown out, examining the stranger in front of you as though he has five heads. Yoongi refrains from saying anything, examining your tense form and the shakiness that creates a sinking feeling within your stomach.
How did he know where your next class was?
You watch as he leans up from the wall, you instinctively step back.
“Are you alright?”
“Y-Yoongi, I didn’t-...”
Your voice dies off your lips.
You’re overthinking again, you remind yourself. Breathe.
“I’m sorry. I just must have a lot on my mind.”
You watch as his eyes soften, a hand reaching back awkwardly to the nape of his neck.
“It’s okay. I just saw you a little zoned out during Han’s class. He was really hammering you again, huh.”
You scoff at his observation. “Yeah, I’m used to it.”
The faint sound of Professor Na’s voice fades. You glance through the door’s window as she’s  facing the projection screen. You suddenly meet her gaze as she motions you go in with a small smile. You give her a slow nod. She was always one of your favorites.
“Look,” you begin turning back towards the boy. He slightly leans his head forward to catch a glimpse of your interaction, “I have to get going now... so I’ll see you around.”
Your eyes meet once more. You both give a small bow as he lets out a smile;  gums and pearly whites on full display. The warmth of his smile brings on a sense of comfort.
“Okay,” is all you hear him mutter.
You’re fairly uncertain. Uncertain of the reason as to why your heart suddenly seems to beat steadily again.
As you go to reach for the knob, you could’ve sworn you heard a faint, “catch you at the cafe.”
The low voice startles you in your spot. You turn back around, Yoongi out of sight.
How crazy you must’ve been.    Crazy enough to start hearing such things.
--
“You’re dismissed,” are the words that jolt you away from the haze of boredom you’d recently felt.
You instantly hop out of your seat, books and bag in tow, quickly scurrying out of the classroom and through the semi-crowded hallway. It was only 3:30, yet you’re starving. You mentally planned out your arrival, hoping to arrive around 3:45, leaving you a little leeway to relax and immerse yourself in delicious food while eating away at your anxiety.
Everything seems to go to plan, until you swing open the glass door to the cafe, instantly spotting Daniel and Ryujin in a sidehug, joking and laughing at whatever the hell they thought was funny. You sigh in defeat, a small slump in your step as you begin to approach their table.
“Oh, y/n,” Daniel says, a kind smile aimed up at you.
His smile has you weak at the knees and it’s a struggle to steady yourself. He really was good looking and it was all the more attractive, that no matter how awkward this whole situation was, he was never once anything but kind to you. You always mentally thanked him for that.
You watch Ryujin jump away from him in your peripherals. You feign disinterest even though you were interested, entertaining yourself with the thought of how he would have treated you if you and your friend were to have switched places. A glint of sadness blooms into the pit of your stomach. You resist by shoving the feeling down and instead begin pulling up another seat from an empty table beside you.
“I’m hungry. I’m gonna go order something. I’ll be right back.”
Any excuse is a good excuse, you think.
“Wait!” Daniel exclaims. “Before you leave, I wanted you to meet somebody.”
You quickly whip around, glancing over at Ryujin with a, “What the fuck? Who else is coming that you suddenly ‘forgot’ to tell me about?!” look. She gives a slight shrug, picking at invisible lint on her plaid dress.
“Oh, uh. I’ll just meet them when I get back. I promise I’ll be quick.”
“But-“ is the last word you hear before you turn on your heel immediately clashing into another surface. The person grips onto the sides of your shoulders, looking down for you to meet the gaze of-
“Yoongi?”
“Y/n?”
You both mirror each other’s expressions, your breath hitched at the back of your throat.
“Oh!” Daniel chimes in, getting up from his seat to stand between the two of you. “You two know each other?”
It takes a moment for you to blink a few times as he glances back and forth between the two of you.
“Yes!” you exclaim, perplexed at Yoongi’s sudden “No.”
“Oh…” is all Daniel replies, going back to take his seat next to Ryujin.
“What a coincidence!” Yoongi says, receiving a half smile from your stuttering heart. You almost miss the suspicion in Ryujin’s gaze and at this point, you’re not exactly sure what to think.
How had someone you’d just met less than a week ago just suddenly start to “appear” wherever you did? Suddenly start to know the people you knew?
Sure there should be some sort of explanation, but first the classroom and now the cafe? On top of that, the anxiety of being near Daniel is more than your heart could stifle. You wanted to get out of this. You needed to get out of this.
You clap your hands together, forcing your best smile. Ryujin opens her mouth to say something, but you quickly interrupt her insisting that you were just hungry and overall out of it for it’s been another rough day. This response doesn’t seem to satisfy Yoongi.
“I can come with if you want-“
“No!” you snap, receiving a few jumps from the table. “I mean,” you continue softer, “I can go myself.”
Yoongi looks down at you in confusion, a small pout forming onto his lips. You’d be lying to yourself about it not being the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. His cheeks are slightly pink, mostly from embarrassment you assume. You’ll never understand how this kid could make you feel such a rollercoaster of emotions. You don’t put too much thought into it, and narrow it down to you both having a strange dynamic.
“Are you sure?”
“I’ll be fine,” you insist. You reach down into the front pocket of your bag, quickly grasping onto your wallet. “Now, as I said before,” you turn to look back up at Yoongi, a glare with a hint of suspicion shooting up into his eyes. “I’ll be right back.”
--
“So, how do you guys know each other?” Daniel asks, taking a sip at his iced caramel macchiato.
“We all have a class together,” Ryujin interrupts as you swirl around the straw in your iced mocha latte, avoiding the scene of the two practically huddled together. Their hands are intertwined now, Daniel rubbing slow circles onto the top of her hand. “Professor Han’s class, actually.”
You lean down to take a sip.
“Actually, y/n and I have three classes together,” Yoongi corrects, making you spit your latte across the table towards Daniel. You slightly cough as Ryujin grimaces, grabbing a few napkins and wiping at her damp Daniel.
“I’m sorry,” you say, “THREE?!”
Yoongi straightens his posture. “Yes. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen you in a couple of my other classes too… “
Now there’s definitely something wrong.
“I’m sorry Yoongi, but I’m sure if we had three classes together, I would’ve remembered,” you retort, dabbing away at the leftover latte dripped onto the table.
“No, I’m serious. We have three classes together.”
You watch as his lips form into a slight frown. As you study his movements, he fiddles with his fingers atop his left leg, bouncing up and down in his lap.
“I’m... gonna go clean up...” Daniel interrupts, motioning down to his pink button down now stained with coffee.
“I’ll go with you,” Ryujin quickly adds.
You ignore their comments, narrowing your attention solely onto Yoongi. For a moment, he meets your gaze, taking a brief glance down onto your lips, a shiver creeping up your spine.
“Oh, uh, here,” he says, reaching towards the table to grab some napkins. He gently wipes at your face before you suddenly come to your senses, shooting up out of your seat.
“What are you doing? You can’t just touch a woman like that!” You snatch the napkin out of his grasp. “No, you know what? I can’t do this! I’ve had it today!” You grab at the bag beside your seat, heaving it over your shoulder. “Don’t follow me.”
“Y/n! Y/n! Y/n, wait!” You hear his pleading voice sound from behind you. You whip around, gazing up at his slightly taller frame. You want to get away. You want to cry. Nothing ever goes right and the last thing you need is some strange guy egging his way into your life. for It was messed up as it already is! The desperation in his tone has you pause. He really appeared worried, but you can’t falter. You wanted to deal with everything on your own, just like you always had.
“What’s wrong?” He asks, soft huffs escaping his lips. It infuriates you even more on how kissable they looked now, and, god, what the fuck is wrong with you?
“What’s wrong? What’s WRONG? Min Yoongi, you tell me!”
“What? You’re not making any-”
“Tell me these weren’t coincidences.” He stays silent.
“I don’t know what you mean.”
You heave a sigh in frustration. “Okay. For starters, tell me how you know my name.”
“Roll call.”
Instant answer. Makes sense, you think allowing yourself to have a moment to compose yourself.
“Okay… now tell me, how did you know I would be at the cafe?”
“I didn’t. Daniel is my lab partner, so we had to meet up for our project.” You glance up at him suspiciously. “Ryujin didn’t know either, so I’m sorry if my presence upset the both of you. Seriously, though. Are you alright?”
“I’m sorry,” you say, sighing in defeat. “I just- I’m so stressed out. I don’t know what to do. It’s just been so hard lately.”
“What is it?” you look up to meet his gaze. “You can tell me…” He looks somewhat empathetic, like he knew exactly where you were coming from.
This makes you hesitate, uncertain on whether you should test being this open with someone else, let alone a stranger. By the looks of him, maybe he could be that someone who would listen and put in the effort to understand you.
You pause once more, Yoongi patiently awaiting an answer.
“Feeling like I’m alone in everything.”
“You’re not,” he quickly assures. “You’re not alone.”
Silence is all too familiar to the two of you now, but this time, it doesn’t feel as uncomfortable anymore.
“Then what should I do?”
“Trust me,” he interrupts so simply. He says it with so much assurance that it’s almost impossible to believe that it’s just that simple.
“I don’t even know you.”
“You can get to…” he suggests. “Tell me whatever it is, is bothering you and trust me, y/n. If you can’t trust them enough, can’t you put your trust in someone else?” His eyes are pleading, a warmth in you filling to the brim at the sentiment that even if you were strangers, even if you accused or insinuated anything negative about him, he was willing to help, to listen.
“Okay.”
“Okay?”
“I’ll trust you. Or at least, I can try to...” you say. “We still have to get to know each other.”
Were you really this desperate? Before you can manage to ponder the thought,  he raises a pinky.
“Yah..” you tease, “Really?”
“Promise me.” his tone is serious. You glance up bashfully one last time, linking your pinky with his.
“Promise.”
Soon enough, you’ll learn to eat those words.

Why Kwanzaa?
1. Because I want a cultural outlet that has the potential to unite all Black people regardless of where they come from. We can all honor our individual and collective history, ancestry, oppressions, cultures, families, and communities during Kwanzaa whether we are Diasporic Africans or Continental Africans.
2. Because every other Black holiday in the US is either too specific (MLK Jr. Day, Juneteenth) or more focused on education than a good time (Black History Month). Nothing wrong with education, but we need both informative holidays and fun ones.
3. Because it's ours and just ours. No one else can come into Kwanzaa and control it. They can barely profit off it. And I know that's part of why other people hate it, because they can't come in and change it's politics, insert their gods into this secular space, copy and paste their cultures and icons, then wrap the whole thing up in a box and sell it back to us for $19.95. And I think that's wonderful.
4. Because no other holiday encourages Black people to learn about Africa's past and present, and fight for its future. We need holidays that remind us that we were living in a rich, diverse continent before we were enslaved and it was colonised. Kwanzaa is the first, and we can and should create more.
5. Because it's cold outside, I want to have fun with my family and eat some good food. But I am neither a believer in the divinity of Christ nor in the inherent consumerism and subtle colonialism of presenting Christmas as a "secular" holiday.
6. Because Kwanzaa specifically reminds us that there is and always will be work to perform for the maintenance of our communities and cultures if we want to not only survive, but thrive.
7. Because we can use Kwanzaa to facilitate a cultural return to Africa. Already we don ankara and learn Swahili for the holiday. But we can make it bigger and do more. We can learn other languages and don other fashions. We can learn other traditions in the continent and diaspora of ancestral reverence. We can try our hands at preparing and eating new foods. We can learn about the different festivals of the continent and diaspora centered around similar themes of history, ancestral reverence, the beginning of a new year, and the honoring of children.
8. Because anything that we decide we don't like about Kwanzaa, we can change. It's OURS, no one elses. We can make it whatever we need it to be.
9. Because let's face it, the backlash isnt really about Karenga or the misinformation surrounding the holiday. If it had been started by Rosa Parks and well publicized so no one thinks obvious facts we always knew were "gotchas" against the validity of the festival, then it would still be hated and despised for daring to be different, apolitical, closed off, and secular.
10. Because we can celebrate it regardless of our religions, while not being prevented from including our faiths. Kwanzaa is secular, but you can include Kwanzaa in how you explore your faith. Do Kwanzaa at your church, mosque, synnagoge, or temple and it's a religious act that only some people can attend. Do it at the MLK Jr. Memorial Community Center and it's something the whole community can attend.
11. Because you can still do 7 days of presents if you really want, and still practice anti-consumerism. The three default kwanzaa presents are books, food, and clothes. You can do 7 days of books and food and clothes if you want. And if your presents can't fit that mold, that's still okay becauae you're encouraged to support Black owned businesses during kwanzaa (and no, Beats by Dre doesn't count). You can also do kwanzaa with no gifts whatsoever. But Kwanzaa should not have you standing in the cold parking lot of the mall at 5am on Black Friday every year.
13. Because it's already tradition, and that tradition is catching on. From school activities to community celebrations, to Kwanzaa Crawl, a lot of Black people have put in effort to keep Kwanzaa in our lives and continue to do so today. It's not a 400 year old tradition, but we have the power to make it so one year at a time. No, it's not the entire Black population, but it doesnt have to be just yet. Everything has to start somewhere, and kwanzaa can start with us.
14. Because kwanzaa is not a racial epithet or stereotype. I get why some people are suspicious when non-black people just assume we celebrate kwanzaa. But the answer isnt to throw the baby out with the bathwater. We don't have to shun and degrade this holiday and everyone that celebrates it. If we did that with everything, then our people wouldn't have anything left. We've already allowed anti-blackness to nearly wipe out our religions, languages, and hairstyles. Imagine if we let it wipe out our music, our cooking, and our sense of fashion? We cannot be so concerned with how others see us that we're willing to discard our identities or marginalize those among us that refuse to assimilate.
15. Because Black people living right now have a lot of despair. If we don't get killed by the state for saying the state shouldn't kill us with impunity, if we aren't unable to vote for the right for the convicted to vote because we are ourselves current and ex-convicted, if we aren't in college because our parents and their parents and their parents could never go, then we're still living in poverty, being manipulated by loan companies that want to force us into situations where we have to torture our bodies for our daily bread. Whether that's in the office, the stores, or the athletic field, they want us out here killing ourselves to earn our right to live. And that's just America. Go anywhere else and you may see people eating mud because there's no food left, living under oppressive regimes more open than the US in their tyranny over their citizens, seeing children struggling to provide for their houses when they should be in school, all the while truly believing that the US is better. Kwanzaa doesn't hide from the uglier sides of our condition, it makes us remember that they exist while invigorating us with a new energy to fight for our people every year.
16. Because Black people living right now have a lot of hope. Remember the global impact Black Panther had on our people. Look at how many Black people in the US are reclaiming our ancestral religions and spiritualities. Think of the new fashion, art, musical and cultural movements we have going right now. Remember the political movements in all of our countries that are recognizing the interconnectedness of our struggles. The hope we're living on right now is exactly the type of hope that kwanzaa is based on fighting for. That's why hope is the final principal of Kwanzaa, called Imani. We celebrate kwanzaa because for a lot of us, that's the only time of the year that we have to truly reflect and see all this hope for all the value it holds.
17. Because kwanzaa reminds us that who we naturally are is enough. Our mothers shouldnt be straightening our hair for a kwanzaa celebration. We shouldnt be demanding that our people talk like white people at a kwanzaa celebration. We don't have to worry about being the first person to grab the watermelon or fried chicken at a kwanzaa celebration. Kwanzaa allows us to be Black, tooth gaps and all. And most importantly, it reminds us that those of our community that would insult and degrade us for being ourselves are fundamentally wrong.
Kwanzaa is not useless. It is not a farce. It is a cultural outlet of the Black community to recognize the inherent validity in our lives. Kwanzaa is the time that we appreciate who we ALL are and how we got here. If we didnt have Kwanzaa, I would sincerely hope that we would create another holiday just like it to remind us that we are more than just victims of slavery, colonialism, and white supremacy without erasing the memories of those that suffered at the hands of those attrocities. Because as long as Black people are living outside of our homelands, and our continent is being destroyed by colonizers and their coups, then Black people are going to need Kwanzaa or something just like it. And ideally, we will always have Kwanzaa AND something just like it.

Eminem - Music To Be Murdered By ALBUM REVIEW
Tumblr media
Another surprise Eminem album came out last Friday. His last album, Kamikaze was a surprise release and it mostly consisted of Eminem responding to criticism of his previous album, Revival. Revival received the criticism it deserved because it was really bad but Em wasn’t having it. Since Kamikaze, Eminem has stayed on the scene dropping MGK diss tracks, beefing with Nick Cannon, and appearing on albums from Logic, Fat Joe and Griselda, who dropped their debut on Shady Records in November. Kamikaze was mainly a response to his critics but it still wasn’t received that well even though it was much better than Revival. His latest album, Music To Be Murdered By initially comes off as a response to the responses to his response album that responded to people hating Revival. However, it turns out to be one of the most well-rounded albums that Eminem has put out in years. The production hasn’t been this good in a while. Eminem himself, Dr. Dre, Royce Da 5′9″, The Alchemist, Dem Jointz, Trevor Lawrence Jr. and D.A. Doman among others contribute production to the album. There’s also more variety in the production, which makes this 20-track album not feel as long as a bunch of his past albums. This album takes inspiration from Alfred Hitchcock and contains some of the serial killer vibes that reminded me a little bit of Relapse. Premonition definitely sets the tone for the album because Eminem is rapping his ass off. The first song is the Unaccommodating, which features Young M.A. I thought this was an odd match-up and I’m not the biggest fan of Young M.A. but she had a dope verse with some good one-liners despite her sounding very laid-back which is not how Eminem sounds at all on the track. I loved the song despite the Ariana Grande concert line which was uncalled for. He switches up the vibe with You Gon’ Learn which features Royce Da 5′9″ who delivers one of his most politically charged verses that he’s put out in a while. Eminem had a dope line where he said “I'm with a gal at a Checkers wiling / Bumping ‘Fuck Da Police’ while I fed her Rally's.” Even though the beat on the song Godzilla was a little basic and poppy for me, Eminem was really flowing on this song. I think the end of his last verse was the fastest he’s ever rapped (yes, faster than Rap God and Offended). Juice WRLD (R.I.P.) is featured on the hook and he sounds very good and fitting for the beat. That song makes an interesting to the song Darkness which ran chills down my spine. It’s a haunting song from the perspective of the Las Vegas concert shooter. He tells a story of the shooter plotting in his hotel room while also describing the concert setting in a parallel story that contains double-meanings that apply to both stories. I am amazed that Eminem was able to make a song like this after dropping Revival. This song addressed gun violence in America in a very interesting way but this one makes a greater impact than the political tracks on Revival because it’s a much better song and it definitely makes a greater impact on the listener. It’s a hard song to listen to but he pulled it off phenomenally and the execution was great. There’s a really dope hip hop posse cut on this album featuring Royce Da 5′9″, Q-Tip, Black Thought and Mr. Porter. The beat is super energetic and it works for every single one of them. I can tell that this song was made out of the pure love of hip hop. Every verse is riddled with references to classic hip hop songs, down to the Busta Rhymes sample on the hook. Yes, Black Thought outrapped everyone and I wish Q-Tip had a verse but he sounded great on the hook. The song Never Love Again sounds like it could have appeared on Recovery. The song is a breakup song but it’s not about a woman, it’s about Eminem breaking up with the drugs he was once addicted to. What makes it so dope is that the song works as talking to both subjects. This song seems like it was important song for Eminem to make for himself for where he is in his life and it might be important song for other people struggling with drug addiction as well. Lock It Up is an absolute banger featuring Anderson .Paak. They collaborated previously on Dr. Dre’s Medicine Man. Eminem recruits Cactus Jack signee Don Toliver on the dope introspective No Regrets. I really do love this song and Don Toliver’s hook really makes the song. When I first saw the tracklist for this album, I was most intrigued by the song I Will. It features Royce Da 5′9″, KXNG Crooked and Joell Ortiz, 3/4 of Slaughterhouse. The song is noticably missing the 4th member of the group: Joe Budden. This did not surprise me because Budden has been “retired” for about 3 years and is very successful with his podcast. Budden and Em also exchanged jabs after Kamikaze dropped so I wasn’t expecting them to reconcile. Eminem and Slaughterhouse have done songs without Joe before (Session One) but I was so happy that we got a track with all of these guys on it. I would love Slaughterhouse to fully reunite but Joe is doing great things with the JBP. Joe would have killed this beat also. In terms of solely spitting bars, this is the best song on the album. Royce had a dope line where he said “Sacha Baron Cohen, Ferrell, where am I going with this? Oh yeah, I bar at will.” Crooked killed it and he had a great bar where he said “John Wilkes, that's who I'm in the booth like / Abra—I go ham for dead presidents / And everything I record is over your head like a boom mic.” Joell’s cleverness shows with lines like “I'm Optimus, I make prime examples of mini-Tonkas.” Eminem had a dope scheme about Wu-Tang where he said “Word to Method Man / She heard some Wu-Tang coming from towards the patio / She was like, ‘What the heck was that?’ / She went to check on the noise and go inspect the deck / Then I jumped out with a sword and yelled, ‘Protect your neck." I liked most of this album; at least a solid 65% of it. Even though this album has some of the best songs that Eminem has put out in a while and he’s rapping his ass off, this album has many flaws. Eminem and Ed Sheeran’s previous collaborations have sucked but Those Kinda Nights was really bad. Eminem’s immature Encore-reminiscent sense of humor comes through on this song and Ed Sheeran’s hook sounds so out of place and makes the song even worse. Songs like that make this album a lot harder to enjoy. No one asked for another track with Skylar Grey. This song had some of his most cringey bars and the hook was really bad. I usually don’t mind Eminem’s sort-of-singing register but the song Stepdad was so bad. It was out of place on the album and the hook was so terrible. Em was rapping really well on Little Engine but the hook ruined the whole song. It reminded me of the awful hook on Venom. Farewell really made me scratch my head. That’s one of the oddest songs that Eminem has made in a while. This would fit right in with those corny and not-at-all-funny tracks that somehow snuck onto the tracklist of The Marshall Mathers LP 2. The hook is really bad but the worst thing about it is the song revolves around this weird dancehall sample of Serani’s No Games. Yes, there are a bunch of skippable songs on this album that hurt the replay value of the album but overall, Music To Be Murdered By is a very good album and it is one of the best albums that Eminem has put out in a while.
Fav Tracks: Unaccommodating, You Gon’ Learn, Darkness, Lock It Up, No Regrets, I Will

KNOCK KNOCK, LET THE DEVIL IN.
Nah man like seriously what the actual fuck.
It was Friday, August 31st. A nice day to start Anime Festival Asia in Indonesia, I was already happy thinking what to buy to make myself broke at the convention, then aS SOON AS I FUCKING ARRIVED AT THE CONVENTION, SHIT BROKE IG AND TWITTER: EMINEM NEW ALBUM “KAMIKAZE”.
At first I shrugged and laughed thinking it was a troll/just an album announcement bUT AY TURNS OUT THAT SHIT LITERALLY DROPPED JUST WHEN I GOT MY MONEY FOR AFA & NOW BY THE TIME OF THIS WRITING I STILL DON’T KNOW HOW TO SAVE UP MONEY TO BUY KAMIKAZE MERCH, LIKE I SWEAR FUCK THIS SHIT SLIM, I FUCKING HATE YOU SMH.
Tbh I don’t expect much when I saw the Venom teaser for the movie, I thought he was just going to have a song for the movie soundtrack/at best, a soundtrack album by him just like how Kendrick did with Black Panther, but ay this looks promising.
Aside of me being salty, this album’s apparently executive produced by Dr. Dre and “Slim Shady”, like literally Marshall is fucking credited as Slim Shady, this shit sounds like a classic already- HE EVEN PUT BACK THE PAUL SKITS AGAIN YO DAMN.
Features are actually fresh as fuck tho, like Joyner Lucas? Nickle Nine? Goddamn man. First look at the tracklists & I can feel the fire already.
Aight then with that all being said, new EM album, Kamikaze, let’s go (I’m still salty to not have money to buy the merch).
01. The Ringer - SHIT BRO I CANNOT. WAIT A MINUTE *takes a fucking hour to get ready*
Okay so uh, wow. Illadaproducer. You fire bro. AND RONNY J? OMYGOD MAN.
First song and he’s shNAPPING ALREADY LIKE DAMN BRO. Okayokayokay let me slow myself here. Because he literally snapped on everybody who criticized him on The Storm freestyle & Revival, should I like write of a list of it?
>Vince Staples >Joe Budden >Lil Yachty (It’s not a diss tho, he just called him out) >Lil Pump >Lil Xan >Iggy Azalea >MGK >NF >Journalists >Donald Trump >Charmalagne tha God >Pretty much the whole current state of Hip-Hop
One song going and it’s fire already, why the fuck should we hit Em’s nerve for him to make a fire album like this though? That’s a big problem.
I like how he interpolates Young M.A. here, matter of fact everything he interpolates sounds better than the original lol excuse me for being biased smh. AND THAT EVIL SPELL LINE, GOT ME SO GOOD.
Overall a fire intro. Personal favorite already. I felt perfect when Em shouted out his favorite new-wave rappers, makes me feel like I listen to the right side of Hip-Hop lol.
02. Greatest - REVIVAL DIDN’T GO VIRAL
As much as I like some aspects of Revival, it’s still an ass album overall, so sorry I gotta say that man but that’s like, Jesus man it’s the fucking lowest.
AY MIKE WILL WASSUP BRO THIS SHIT BUMPS BROOO, better than the whole SR3MM album tbh smh. And the hook yooo, I really wokeuplikethis when I heard the fucking hook. Definitely one of the best hooks of 2018 lmao don’t @ me.
He still continues the theme of clapping back at people who clapped back at him & he’s not being boring on it which is very unusual, because y'know how it feels like when people wrote the same shit on different songs right? That shit gets repetitive & boring, but not this one.
And again, his interpolations are fucking top notch man, I can’t praise it enough for being too fucking great.
And that 2nd verse? God. Another personal favorite.
03. Lucky You (feat. Joyner Lucas) - I’m lucky to be alive after listening to these 3 fire straight.
Dude.
Whatthefuck.
This is godly bro.
Joyner came in with that fire verse, then Em ended the song with next level heat. That’s the whole gist of it tbh.
BOI-1DA CAME WITH THE HEAT. SHIT’S AMAZING BRO, I CAN STILL HEAR THAT NC-17 HERE, ILLA YOU FIRE TOO MAN WTFFF.
I like how they started their parts with different perspective of their respective careers, with Joyner not having the accolades he was supposed to get and Em with the awards that he ironically don’t need.
Joyner man, he came in with rapid fire yo & he fucking interpolates Denzel’s SUMO | ZUMO amazingly & fittingly. And Em back again snapping on the current state of Hip-Hop FOR THE 3RD TIME IN THE ALBUM & HE’S YET TO BORE ME WITH THE SAME TOPIC. And that “Record Breaker/Broken Record” line is slick as hell yo, plus how he interpolates (again) DNA. here is just amazing but somehow expected. Plus that ghostwriter line probably struck a nerve somewhere in the 6ix lol.
3 tracks in with pretty much the same topics, yet I didn’t get bored of it yet. The first 3 tracks & and those hits the personal favorites list already. This is probably a classic already.
04. Paul (Skit) - The very core question of Eminem’s career by this point tbh. Is he going just to put out shit albums and snap back the next year with a fire album? Is he going to repeat the same shit all over? So far the first 3 tracks don’t bore me but I feel like he’s trying a lil too hard on it? At least he didn’t sound bitter on this album so far.
05. Normal - It’s not an Eminem album if there’s no at least one misogynystic song isn’t it.
At first I wasn’t feeling it until the beat switches I was like, “Damn bro, Em can actually sound melodic like the mumble rappers too, damn.”
But I got the message of the song tho, it’s surprising that Em is still wishing for a normal relationship with women (Maybe he could had one if he didn’t went full misogynystic but eh).
Milo verse is funny tho, not anything special but it’s just funny. Not hilarious either but it’s just… Funny.
06. Em Calls Paul (Skit) - Basically a response about Em saying that he’s not trying to make an album just to clap back at people who criticized the album badly, thank goodness because I hope that shit doesn’t happen to him (I still don’t like the timing of this surprise album tho, still salty over the fact I can’t buy the merch yet).
Rumors believe that he was referring to Shawn Cee on the skit, but I don’t think it’s about him tho because Em said he read about some Yahoo-motherfucker who wrote about Revival and criticized about how bad Em did the album (Which I think to be true).
Now, Shawn Cee is a YouTuber famous for his Hip-Hop reaction/review videos. Eminem clearly said that he read about someone writing about Revival, not watched about someone reviewing Revival. So I guess Shawn Cee is in a safe position in his career lol. RIP to that Yahoo-motherfucker tho.
07. Stepping Stone - THIS HERE, THIS ACTUALLY BROKE MY HEART
It’s sad to hear that D12 is officially dead & to hear it from the group most popular member makes it even worse.
I like how to hook goes in & the bridge is just amazing to hear. I’m happy that he decides to break the silence about D12, it’s a plus point too for this album because I don’t want him to always talk about how bad Revival is tbh lol.
A great song to refresh yourself from this album’s main topic.
08. Not Alike (feat. Royce da 5'9") - THAT LOOK ALIVE SAMPLE THOOO. TAY KEITH FUCK THESE DUDES UP.
I don’t know why but I enjoy Eminem doing the Migos flow, it just makes him sounds funnier to me, the hook says all: Em is nothing alike to these mumble rappers, just like how what he says have nothing in common.
Royce went great here, but I feel like before his verse ends he sounds a lil rushed, or is it just me? Great feature nevertheless.
THEN EMINEM BACK AGAIN WITH THE MGK DISS & WHEN THAT BEAT SWITCHED TO THAT RONNY J FIRE? GODFUCKINGDAMN BRO.
Did Em just started his verse with the Ay flow? Because it feels refreshing when Em doesn’t go too fast on his raps & being more laid-back with it.
The flow showdown here man, it’s just unlikely people will hate on this one, I mean hey, GOAT with Tay Keith & Ronny J who doesn’t want that?
Definitely another personal favorite.
09. Kamikaze - Title song of the album, I gotta stop listening when I heard the word “Fack” said here lmao, the whole first part of the song is hilarious too, I mean that beat whatthefuck man, corny as shit lmao.
But hey as hilarious as it gets it’s still worth noting that this song sums up the whole point of the album, it’s basically him snapping back to haters & mumble rap by dropping a surprise album just for the fuck of it (Fuck it tho I’m still salty off the merch)
When the beat switched tho, that shit went sinister like straight up, WHY CAN’T HE JUST DO THE WHOLE SONG WITH THAT BEAT? JESUS FUCKING CHRIST EM SMH.
And that outro bro, was that a diss at Drake? Those ghostwriters line still got me great man.
10. Fall - Featuring uncredited vocals by Justin Vernon for the hook, here Em talks about… WELL WHAT DO YOU EXPECT MAN THE ALBUMS BASICALLY A BUNCH OF DISS TRACKS FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVEN’T HAD ENOUGH OF HIM SMH, Mike WiLL fucking made a banger tho.
I felt bad for Tyler after hearing him got dissed badly with the other F-word, RIP Tyler & Earl too.
Budden, DJ Akademiks, Charmalagne & Lord Jamar got fucked up pretty badly here too, I mean I think this is the first time Em proved his point right & stayed relevant to the era he’s in. I mean he’s doing it in Trap beats so that explains a thing. (Listen to Lucky You for reference)
Verse 3 > Legacy in MMLP2.
11. Nice Guy (feat. Jessie Reyez) - NOW THIS, THIS IS PROBABLY THE FIRST EMINEM SONG FOR THEM CONCERT MOSHPITS.
THAT DROP IS JUST SO FIRE, & JESSIE, GODDAMN BRO.
I like the fact that the songs is less than 3 minutes just like how songs are nowadays. The bars are nothing serious tbh bUT THAT ENERGY BRO, IF THIS SHIT EVER GETS PERFORMED ON AN EMINEM CONCERT, I’LL DEFINITELY JOIN THE MOSHPIT.
Another personal favorite. And yea it’s a favorite personal because even tho the bars aren’t really nothing, I can still relate on how dudes just wanted to be nice for their woman out there.
Hook-post hook = definite anthem.
12. Good Guy (feat. Jessie Reyez) - BRO EMINEM ON A KINGDOM HEARTS SAMPLE BRO THANK YOU ILLA YOU DA GOAT.
I feel like this song & the song before is like a mini sequel to the long-ass Bad Guy song back in MMLP2, this song especially is just a continuation of Nice Guy, so nothing special tbh, lacks the same energy from Nice Guy tho.
The Kingdom Hearts sample fucking saved the song.
13. Venom (Music from the Motion Picture) - Now this shit, was the shit that made me believe that Em is actually going to produce the whole Venom soundtrack. This shit went off great, KNOCK KNOCK, LET THE DEVIL IN.
I LOVE HOW HE STARTED EVERY VERSE WITH THAT SENTENCE, REAL SLIM SHADY VIBES IN THIS SONG. AND THAT HOOK, UGH FUCK BRO SHIT.
How Eminem stated that we the fans are Eddie Brock & him being the Venom Symbiote is just very fucking symbolic, because as bad as he gets you know that he’ll still stick to us like how Venom sticks to Eddie.
THe very perfect outro for the album, a definite personal favorite because of the “Knock knock” line & the hook.
Overall album score: 9/10
A very great album which basically consists mainly about responses to haters, but somehow ends up being a breathe of fresh air of an Eminem record for the past 8 years.
Great team of producers (Illa you da MVP bro), great features, Eminem on his prime, executive produced by Dre & Shady, the return of Paul skits, no comment needed, definitely a classic already.
The only question I have in mind is that; should it really be like this for Eminem to put out a classic album? Should a big sack of hating in mass media on a shit album he put out previously fuel the urge for him to make one of the best records of him to this date? I don’t think so.
Personal favorites: The Ringer, Greatest, Lucky You (feat. Joyner Lucas), Not Alike (feat. Royce da 5'9"), Nice Guy (feat. Jessie Reyez), Venom (Music from the Motion Picture).
I’M STILL SALTY OVER THE FACT THAT I CAN’T BUY MERCH BECAUSE OF THE UNFORTUNATE SURPRISE TIMING. FUCK YOU EM.
Kamikaze > Eminem albums from 2010-2017
He actually did a serious damage because of his Kamikaze wtf he actually didn’t flopped, great.
You should’ve seen the memes for this album bro, shit’s wild.
Again, Eminem if you’re reading this, I love you for putting such a classic album in this era, bUT FUCK YOU FOR RELEASING IT THE EXACT SAME DAY OF ME BEING BROKE. Sincerely, a Stan.

06/03/2022 Click here for Spotify or Apple Music. This is my 13th official release. Written within the last 18 months “Make It Hip-Hop” is a hip-hop tribute track. In this track, I talk about how I don’t care you have loud music, just make it hip-hop. The hook is dedicated to many of my favorite rappers while the verses give a little history, opinion, and then context.
I originally wrote this song to a Tantu beat but he sold it as an exclusive before I had a chance to buy a license. I thought I wrote a hit and didn’t want to give up on it, which is when I found They Call Me Heat at Crack House studios in Lansing Michigan. What I ended up doing was buying a custom beat from Heat. We recorded the vocals over the old Tantu beat and then he dropped that beat and made a different beat around my vocals. I love how it turned out and I own the beat.
So The beat is from They Call Me Heat. The track was professionally recorded, mixed, and mastered by They Call Me Heat at Crack House Studio Recordings in Lansing  Michigan. You can stream or download the track wherever music is sold. Thank you for your support. Be sure to follow because new music is released every first and third Friday of every month.
Lyrics:
Let me tell you a little story about hip-hop
I once was a young buck,  Do’n all the dumb stuff Risk’n it on dumb luck  Or in for get’n some love I love hip-hop music, the base and treble Pace and the level, attitude of a rebel Rips and the breaks, adlibbed and laced  Put ear plugs in and Feel the base as it shakes I like the old school, the soul and the cats Rappin bout how the government flooded streets with crack Made it illegal, served it to the blacks Got’em addicted, and arrest’em for the trap My favorite are the artist that serve up civics Sample up snippets  Are positive and live it  I feel like Kanye sip’n ice and bombay  All I gotta do is smile and you can find me shine-nang  Clairvoyant, while others avoid it Get at me, you know who ya boy is
I don’t care, make it nicki or drake Migos or Dave, lyrical lemonaid Jay-Z, Shady or Dr. Dre Ludacris, Cole or lil wayne I don’t care, Kendrick or nas    Big or pac, give’em a shot  don’t care your shit knocks  I like what you got, Just make it hip-hop

********* Episode 187 - Southern Vangard Radio
BANG! @southernvangard #radio Ep 187! It’s another sure shot this week Vangardians as we turn the final corner on 2018 and barrel into the last few weeks of the year. If you missed it - last Friday we kicked off the FRIDAY FIVE, which is a weekly list of 5 LPs / EPs as well 5 singles you should be checking for. This is independent from the weekly mix show playlist, and is a way for us to highlight certain releases that we’re really into and are worthy of spending your hard earned time AND money on. Make sure you follow us on all the socials to get that list every Friday. Ok - back to our regularly scheduled program - of course there’s tons of new records on the mix this week, including a world exclusive from DaVillins & VS The Best (whaddup VS!?!) AND we have an interview session with Virginia’s own GRIME LORDS - Pete Twist & Born Unique! Interview snippets are at the end of the mix, the full drops on Thursday!  Jeepers Creepers it’s ALWAYS that #smithsoniangrade #twiceaweek #WeAreTheGard // southernvangard.com // @southernvangard on #applepodcasts #stitcherradio #soundcloud #mixcloud #youtube // #hiphop #rap #undergroundhiphop #boombap #DJ #mix #interview #podcast #ATL #WORLDWIDE #RIPCOMBATJACK
