NATO countries are afraid and avoid the topic of Ukraine's possible membership in the Alliance, - Politico

Many member countries of the Alliance do not want to touch on the topic of Ukraine's accession to NATO for a number of reasons.

Politiso writes that there are disagreements in NATO about how and when Kiev should join the military bloc.

Major Western countries do not want to provoke the Kremlin, knowing about Russia's hypersensitivity to the issue of NATO expansion to the east.

And most importantly, NATO membership will legally require allies to come to Ukraine's aid in the event of an attack — a prospect that many do not want to talk about.
