Yesterday, I made a detailed list of projects I’ll finish before starting anything new, so, of course, I totally ignored all that and designed a child sized fingerless mitt pattern for beginner knitters. 🙄 I can’t help myself! In my defense though, I had planned on starting the first item on that list and brought in the pattern and knitting needles for it and totally forgot to bring in the yarn. I was too comfortable with the cats sleeping on me that I didn’t want to get up. Ty offered to get the yarn for me but since I had some random yarn and needles sitting beside me from other projects I just did something with them instead. I was concerned it was going to be too small around for the girl I had in mind but it stretched out enough to fit me so it’ll definitely fit her now and for several years. I call this one: UNRAVELLING. . Knit 10 rows, First step done! Marking them off, One by one. 16 more, This time knit-pearl. Shouldn't be too hard, Concentrate girl! . There you go, That's 5 rows passed You might be learning To knit at last! But wait, hold up, What's happened here? Brain from neutral, Into first gear. 3 rows ago, You dropped a stitch... Not just one, 5 or 6! . It's fine, just breathe, And count to 3. Just unpick to there, How hard can it be? Unpicking is easy, The rows just fly by. But then comes the part, Where I try not to cry. If this stitch is pearl, But this one is knit, How do you know, Where to insert the stick? . In the stress, You pull too tight, And now 3 loops, Are pulled out of sight! The dilemma: Can you retrieve them? How bad would it be, To just go on and leave them...? . Sighs of despair, Grinding of teeth, Swallowing down, The unfairness and grief. Then resignation, Preparing to pull. Unravelling, sighing, legs covered in wool. Until you reach, A bit that looks feasible. Here, perhaps, reinsert your needle. . Yes, it's worked! We're back to row 10. I'm not the fastest knitter out there and I will tell you a secret... I will probably never be fast. However, I was once told perfection takes time. ******************************** Anyway, we are talking about wash clothes and/or dishclothes today. Perfection doesn't have to come into play. As long as it does the job, right? Eh, if you're like me you strive for perfection in all you do. If that's the case, I have a tip for you... Practice. Practice and patience. Okay, maybe that's two. The first 2 wash clothes/dishclothes I made were horrendous! I had holes in the from accidental yarn overs and uneven stitches. The two above are my recent ones. I've been knitting for 2 months now. That's not long at all. I know a knitter who has been doing this for over 40 years! I started too late in life to get there, but it doesn't mean I can't strive to do all the things others do. ******************************* My meaning from all this?
