At the time Zs'skayr is not in the watch, so it's 100% Ben. The reason he vanished is similar to what you mentioned though, in that due to Ben's fear of this form, even if Zs'skayr is not there, still gives Ben quite a lot of anxiety. It also doesn't help that there are times that Ghostfreak does showcase aggressive elements, even without Zs'skayr in him. So Ghostfreak ditched in order to keep himself from doing anything bad. In fact, after the other nine aliens are found and everyone learns what Ben did, Julie is the one who finds Ghostfreak. She was upset with Ben for both lying, and doing this to himself, and wanted some space to think, heading to the Pier. She just so happens to find Ghostfreak there playing some of the games, with people around being too scared to stop or speak to him. The two talk, as Ghostfreak is fairly honest and open about his emotions and thoughts, somewhat feeling depressed. Julie asks him why he came to the pier, and he admits he thought coming somewhere with good memories would keep him grounded, given the pier is him and Julie's special place. All in all, Ghostfreak is not a happy chap.

Finally read through all of this, and I just want to say I'm glad you kept the breakup for Julie (except... not terribly written) in this, considering there was no way Ben could maintain a healthy relationship in the UA era, rewrite or not. And on a completely unrelated note, I'm curious if you have any plans for Scout? He felt like a character with a lot of potential during the Anur System arc... that the show did nothing with. Rook in particular seems like he should have found a kindred spirit in him.

Thank you! While I still have them as endgame, cause I'm a shipper at heart, I still like to keep the break up in. Relationships are complicated, and sometimes two people who love each other do need space to grow before trying again. I just like to write relationships as more than "They kiss, they bicker, eh." I too also like the idea of Scout, and he would most definitely get more screen time in the Anur arc, since I mentioned in another ask that that arc is getting a decent rewrite, since I really didn't enjoy it. I imagine his arc would have the struggles of not only having to keep the peace between the Plumbers and Anur aliens, but also having to go against their ruler, Zs'skayr, even if he is a wayward leader.
