#1 reason why old the old-style forums going away is Very Bad for the internet
I listen to Evanescence's "My Immortal", and at the end there's a weird high-pitched beeping that's kind of annoying/distracting, and I thought it might be an artifact from when I ripped it from the CD years ago, but no, it's present on youtube videos and Spotify streams, so it's inherent to the track recording itself.
Well, I did a quick search for "My Immortal high-pitched beeping" and found amidst a ton of links to the video and lyrics websites, a forum thread where someone asked why the beeping at the end is there. They also reported it's in several versions of the song, the "Band Version" among others (though not the live recordings).
And someone replied that according to Ev Lead Guitarist Ben Moody, they discovered the synthesizer they used had this quirk where it'd devolve into this electronic morse code-like sound as it faded out. And they (the band) thought it cool so they left it into the recordings.
And this was from a forum post in 2005. ALMOST TWENTY YEARS AGO. And if this forum had gone away like so many others, I would have never learned why this little thing is present in the recording...
i love finding old web graphics and i love evanescence so i combined the two back in december and created archivescence! i'm always adding onto it and trying to find sources for all of them (graphics with sources are linked back to their respective websites/owners) and there's also a page dedicated to other websites about the band! i think i'll add a page for old interviews/articles eventually too ^_^
EDIT: someone said they were having trouble with the link so if it doesn't work try copy pasting this! https://archivescence.neocities.org/
